So as the name implies, I'm interested in playing a game of Exalted Third Edition here at E, preferably as a Circle of Solars (although the Dragon-Blooded Kickstarter is going nicely and the backers are about to get Character Creation preview rules for them, so that's a possibility as well). Any interest for an ST or other players?

I'll go ahead and put down my interest. I've never played but I do have the 3e core book.

Nice to have some interest so soon! Any particular Castes or concepts you two like for your characters?

Revelation

Definite interest would love to try the game out, possibly a dawn or zenith.

Don't have a sure idea yet but feeling like something Judge Dee-ish or possibly a spy of some kind, maybe a kind of exorcist monks. Lots of ideas running through my head at the moment.  Whatever concept I go with though is most likely one of either Twilight, Night, or Eclipse.

Alistair Leonhart

Judge Dee sounds like an Eclipse with investment in Investigation and Bureaucracy, among other things so that could probably work. A spy sounds like a Larceny or Socialize-Supernal Night, depending on the kind of spying, while an exorcist monk does sound like an Occult Supernal Twilight with some investment in Martial Arts or Brawl. Pretty fun concepts!

I’ve wanted to do a Zenith air or sea pirate captain with Presence supernal for incredible intimidation, which needs the right setting to work.

Grand daiklave-wielding MILF/thick woman Dawn caste is a more general option, or a Night ninja/treasure hunter.

Or a Zenith seductress, Presence supernal on the persuasion end of things and the performance sex charms.

Air or sea captain can also work if the character is outside of their element, but indeed the other options are a bit more generally applicable. So apparently there's interest in Dawn, Zenith, Night and at least one Twilight/Eclipse, that's pretty good.

Alistair Leonhart

Alright, as far as my own character ideas go, I had one for each Caste:

Dawn: Thrown Supernal; a former prince of a small city-state in the Threshold who, during a visit to a neighbor kingdom, grew exasperated at the tyranny of their king, ending up in him taking a nearby rock and shooting it at him during a public speech. Given he received the Second Breath one second before he threw it, suffice to say the tyrant's kingdom is currently looking for an heir, and that his father has disowned him as an Anathema. He's now traveling in a merchant caravan, seeking to restore some of his wealth and take down tyrants where he goes.

Zenith: Athletics Supernal; a very dedicated field worker who was friends with the local field God. After his village was left to burn by a raid (due to the nearby barbarians not getting that month's worth of tribute due to a particularly bad winter), he went around the houses saving those who needed to be saved and in several occasions had to lift tons of rubble, keep the ceiling from crashing down, brave the fire and the cold outside... by the time he was halfway done with the rescue efforts, a beacon of golden light emanated from him, and the Sun himself came down to encourage him. "Go forth in my name and make the world just, as best you know how". His village is lost, but now he wanders seeking refuge and revenge.

Twilight: Lore Supernal; details to come later

Night: Larceny Supernal; details to come later

Eclipse: Bureaucracy Supernal; details to come later

So did a bit more work on the character concepts, I've got so far and ended up coming up with another.

For the Judge Dee concept I went with Eclipse: Investigation Supernal. Going to be a bit more social focused here with a focus on things like Bureaucracy, socialize, and presence backed up with a dabbling into dodge and brawl for combat. I'm thinking that the character will be an official of some sort likely a judge or some other investigator type.

For the spy thinking Night: Stealth or Presence supernal. Main difference would be whether there's more of a focus on sneaking in and stealing type of spy or more of a get close to a target and fish out information that way. A good mix of stealth, combat, and personal magnetism type of character.

For the Exorcist Monk: Twilight: Occult supernal. Not sure whether or not I'll take sorcery or not. But was thinking more of a mix of martial artist with an occult twist on dealing with spirits and demons and such. A good example being something like the main character from The Sorcerer and the White Snake.  In addition to the combat and occult abilities also be using some more supportive abilities, like medicine and craft.

Added another possible concept as well. Thinking the classic redeemed bandit or bandit who had a change of heart. This one would be night: supernal Archery with stealth, survival, and perception based stuff like investigation and awareness to help support.

By the rules, Supernal have to be one of your Caste skills, so Supernal Archery is strictly Dawn.

Thought it could be a favored skill thank you for the corection.

Yeah, has to be a Caste Ability. However, a former bandit could be a Dawn too. Archery Supernal with Larceny and Stealth and whatnot works just as well, you'd only miss out on the Night Caste anima powers and more varied Caste Ability options.

Don't feel bad, this is probably the second most popular houserule ;D! The first is, IMO, changing the advancement costs to match character creation, in order to avoid XP disparities based on the order of raising skills.
But, well, there's no guarantee that a potential GM would adopt either of those 8-).

I'll note that I've got some interest here myself, as Exalted is one of my favorite tabletop RPGs out there.  I've been playing off and on since first edition, and I'm rather a fan of the third edition ideas.  I have yet to get to be a player for 3rd edition, but I'd definitely like to be.

I can see you've got about half a dozen others expressing interest, however, so I'll mostly just note that if you guys need an Eclipse with a penchant for dirty deeds done quick and quiet, I'm totally down.

JoanieSappho

You have my interest, but I'd like to have a game idea down first before I started on making a character for it.

Alistair Leonhart

Very well! So, first of all, which Direction do you all prefer, and if possible what city-state or other important location would you like to explore in the game?

You can offer multiple places of interest or Directions if you want.

Avalon29

There are quite a few places in the setting that I'm interested in seeing more of. I'm pretty open to anywhere but these are the ones that stood out to me the most.

North: Grieve, Karash
East Nexus, Gloam, the Hundred Kingdoms, Lookshy
South East: Champoor
South: Chiaroscuro
South West: City of  the Steel Lotus
West: Wu-Jian, Onyx, Faxai

KrataLightblade

I've always been a huge fan of anywhere in the Threshold, but especially the Hundred Kingdoms and Confederation of Rivers areas in the east.

Yes, I've had a few notions for an exiled/overthrown princess of one of the Hundred Kingdoms who Exalts trying to restore her birthplace, then things get complicated due to the attention a Solar Exalt attracts.

Anywhere out West too, fighting the Lintha or the forces of Skullstone would be fun.

Alright, we have some interest in the Hundred Kingdoms and the West, as well as other spread-out locales. Since we haven't got an ST offer yet, I'll run the game myself, so feel free to pitch in some character ideas for a game set in the Hundred Kingdoms or Wu-Jian/Faxai/Onyx. I assume the Hundred Kingdom game would be focused on expansion, conquest and dealing with a hundred rulers, a lot of which could be as dangerous as you are. Faxai likely includes dealing with the war between Lunars and Dragon-Blooded or exploring some of The Caul's lost temples and ruins; Onyx would deal more with the forces of the Bodhisattva or with living incognito in his strange society; Wu-Jian would perhaps deal with the criminal underground of the city, the strange beings that find shelter in it, or the Dragon-Blooded enclaves. There also seems to be interest in the Scavenger Lands, which is also a pretty cool location. So basically just choose a place and general feel you want for the game.

KrataLightblade

Welllllll, let's see.

Summer Whisper

If there was one thing Summer Whisper knew, it was how to get things done.  Oh, sure, sometimes, it wasn't clean, or easy.  Sometimes, you did things you weren't proud of, and sometimes you did things nobody else could ever, ever, know you'd done.  But when you were making the world a better place, one quiet word to the right people at a time, sometimes, well, sometimes, you did what you had to, and you just had to be happy that it was done right.

Summer Whisper's Supernal would be Linguistics, and he'd focus pretty heavily on a combination of social skills, stealth, and the occasional getting-away-with-murder.  Combat will probably be focused on quick hit-and-fade, and he's definitely not the group's heavy hitter, but when it comes to the dirty work, nobody else will do, and sometimes, he just has to go somewhere nobody else wants to go, and do something nobody else wants to do, so he's got a smattering of other skills to boot.

Whether the game's in the East or the West, he'll work for either and the biggest change between the two will be swapping Ride for Sail and focusing slightly more on his Occult in the West and his Bureaucracy/Socialize in the East.

Obviously this is kinda just a very vague short summary, but heck, I don't even know if the group's got room for me and I'm running late for a thing I need to do right this second anyway, so I'll expand on this later if you guys have any interest in Summer joining your Circle!

Alistair Leonhart

Sounds like a cool draft for your character! I'm assuming Eclipse here, which is pretty neat. But overall, I figure they'd be a good addition to a game with intrigue and espionage, so he could work pretty nicely in places like Faxai, Wu-Jian, The Hundred Kingdoms, Gloam... Good choice o3o

TFcommando

One Hundred Kingdoms idea is a freedom-loving "bandit princess," head of a band of brigands that makes life difficult for a particularly tyrannical or oppressive ruler/region.  Exalting after a hopeless stand for freedom, she's using her new might to throw off the yoke of oppression for the whole region.  Could do Zenith with Presence supernal and the intimidation-type charms with melee (or martial arts) as a strong secondary.  Or go with Dawn and Melee for the Invincible Sword Princess approach.
