What is SCP?

Hello and welcome to SCP, a new group adventure game that will be GMed by Kingmaster and myself. The entire story is going to revolve around something called the SCP foundation. The Foundation is a multinational organization that identifies, registers, studies, and confines objects or creatures of paranormal nature. Most of these items have a very Creepy-Pasta vibe to them, like lighting fixtures that create murderous shadow figures or a bedroom apartment nestled inside a floating sphere of flesh, which devours its visitors and turns their flesh and bones into new furniture.

The world of SCP is a dangerous place, with over four thousand reports of different incidents and potential SCPs, and the organization that handles all of them is the SCP Foundation. The Foundation has been around for over a hundred of years, its origins not entirely known, and it has gone through many changes, names and administrations, but the one thing that never changed was The Foundation's ultimate mission statement. That statement, after which they named the same anomalies they investigate, is summarized in S.C.P:

SECURE

The Foundation secures anomalies with the goal of preventing them from falling into the hands of civilian or rival agencies, through extensive observation and surveillance and by acting to intercept such anomalies at the earliest opportunity.

CONTAIN

The Foundation contains anomalies with the goal of preventing their influence or effects from spreading, by either relocating, concealing, dismantling such anomalies or by suppressing or preventing public dissemination of knowledge thereof.

PROTECT

The Foundation protects humanity from the effects of such anomalies as well as the anomalies themselves until such time that they are either fully understood or new theories of science can be devised based on their properties and behavior.

What About Us?

In this game, you will be playing a team of various SCP Foundation employees, which will normally head out to the field to investigate reports or suspicions of possible SCPs. The team's task would be to identify the SCP, validate its supernatural nature, investigate it, assess its threat level and, if need be, capture and bring it back for containment.

Although there are many various positions, ranks and clearances in the foundation, the foundation's employees can easily be divided into three main classifications:

Researchers

These are the Foundation's scientists, medical staff (medics, therapists) and academically trained personal, the brainiacs. They can usually be seen going around in white lab coats with note-pads and distracted pensive looks. The Foundation does its best to hire only the best of the best, they recruit them young and they pay them handsomely. However, seeing as the dangerous nature of the job means that there is collateral damage, a lot of collateral damage, and the greater good sometimes requires to sacrifice the one (or several ones) for the good of the many, there is a certain pattern of moral ambiguity that tends to stand out when one examines said researchers closely.
It should also be noted that the work and research these researchers do as a part of their Foundation work is top secret, often traumatizing and would never be acknowledged by the scientific community. Researchers that work for the Foundation usually do so for their ideals and/or because they simply don't have anywhere else to go.

Soldiers

The arm of the foundation. They are there both to secure and protect the Foundation employees, contain the SCPs and enforce the Foundation's policies and regulations. Simply speaking, they are there for when shit hits the fan. Now, you know about those tough army men, trigger happy, heart of stone, nerves of steel, that live and breathe the battlefield? Take that and multiply it by a hundred. These soldiers are literally expected to fight real life monsters; in their line of work they can never tell what's going to happen, what might jump at them, from which direction or at what speed. Being tough sons of bitches isn't just a recommendation, it's a job requirement (some might even say it's the main job requirement). They should be highly trained and exceptionally skilled, and those that live long enough to collect their paychecks, get paid accordingly.

D-Class

D-Class personal are less employees of the Foundation and more... Well, acquisitions. The D-Class are death-row and life-sentenced inmates that have signed on and traded their sentencing for volunteer work for the Foundation. They are used for any sort of high-risk tasks, where the risk of death is beyond probable. They are used as test subjects, disposable personal, human shields. Their life expectancy is grim indeed, and are usually treated as captives at best, cattle more than often. Good thing the human material that makes the D-Class can only be described, more often than not, as 'Scum of the Earth'.
Rumor has it that the recent discouraging attitude towards the death sentence in the west has forced the Foundation to look to other sources for their D-Class recruitment, such as homeless shelters and hospices.

All three classifications can also be SCPs, meaning either being anomalies themselves or afflicted by anomalies by a work related incident or a pre-existing condition. Bear in mind that such employees will also be treated as SCPs, that is as a property of the foundation, rather than normal employees, even if they function as any other employee or better. In some cases, such as D-Class or soldier, this will mainly serve to make your character more durable. Keep in mind that these cases are rare, we will probably only accept a couple of SCP employees, and it won't be an easy sell to get them accepted.

The one common denominator for all of the SCP Foundation's employees is that joining the organization often means severing ties with the rest of the world. The long hours, the travels, the top-secret everything and the very real risk of death – or worse – involved in being a Foundation employee, means that it's almost impossible to work there and maintain relationships with people outside of the organization. Most of the employees live on site or in designated living facilities owned by the Foundation. That means that as an employee, the Foundation is your family, your circle of friends and your lovers, for all intents and purposes. Moreover, the employees are discouraged from settling down with a single partner, in order to decrease the possibility of a contrast of interests in the field, and a polyamorous lifestyle is encouraged.

Rules&Info:

Merits: D-class citizen has an innate skill to get strangers to relax around her, sympathize or even empathize for her, and tend to be more forthcoming with information after speaking with her for a small amount of time. Cooking skills were learned from her father and uncommon medical knowledge, such as info on sedatives, were learned from her mother.
Weaknesses: Isn’t physically strong, is more concerned with her appearance than anything else, and doesn’t follow orders very well. Her short temper and lack of verbal filter often gets her in trouble.

Character
Background: Aribeth Sinclair was born and raised in Nice, France. As a single child, she was often given whatever she wanted which wasn’t hard for her parents to do considering they held very prestigious positions; her father head doctor at a large hospital, her mother an aspiring Iron Chef. Having lived with both worlds in her household, Aribeth picked up quite a lot of information from her parents.

  However, her dreams wasn’t to follow in either of their footsteps. Instead, she wanted to become an actress. Her parents paid handsomely for Aribeth to have a personal teacher who kept her on her toes. Aribeth showed great potential, and probably would have gone far as an actress… Had her teacher not overstepped their boundaries. A small flirt here, a wink there, and Aribeth started to suspect her teacher, who was much older than her, wanted more from her. Paranoia set in; soon, everything the teacher said or did was another pass made at her in Aribeth’s mind.

  One night, Aribeth had been alone in her house, something that happened often since her parents were so busy. This time, her teacher was there to help her with her expressions when acting. From what could be found, nothing extreme had been done to set Aribeth off and send her into a fatally defensive mode but it proved to be the end of her teacher. In an effort to hide the body, and knowing how to properly prepare a pig, Aribeth cooked and ate the man, putting any leftovers in the fridge with the presentation of it being animal parts. The only thing she had to bury was his head.

  Soon, what had started off as being actions taken in self defense and self preservation turned into selfish desires; taking her victims against their will before killing and eating them became a thrilling routine. Aribeth lured many people into her parents home and, after she moved out, into hotel rooms (with kitchenette amenities, of course), using medical knowledge picked up from her mother to subdue even the largest of victims. The media called her ‘The Chef’ at first, something she kinda liked, until she was caught after killing her parents because they wouldn’t give their main home to her. Now knowing her last name, everyone now calls her ‘Sineater’, something she despises.

Personality: Aribeth has a warm personality, tending to be very likable by most. She talks to everyone like they’re her friend, seems to be very considerate, and is level-headed. However, she has a short fuse; one wrong word or phrase spoken, a bump against her or something taken from her, and Aribeth immediately lashes out.
Sexuality: Bi-sexual
Relationship&Afiliations: No one at the moment.
Rap Sheet: Found guilty for fifty-four (54) counts of kidnapping and rape, found guilty for fifty-six (56) counts of murder and cannibalism, two of which include her parents.

Toolkit: Lee is a trained gymnast and has a black belt in Hapkido. As with all Korean nationals, Lee has basic military training during his 22 month stint as an officer and field medic in the South Korean Army. Foundation has since provided extra training as one of their operatives. Lee is especially good with the heavily modified tranq gun issued to him.
Merits: Steady Hands - This is a boon especially when handling a scalpel while operating in a moving vehicle or firing accurately at a charging beast. High IQ - Completed medical school with specialisations in half the time. Resistant to toxins due to frequent exposure.
Weaknesses: Hippocratic Oath, Mild OCD and suffers from Flashbacks.
Special Equipment/Belongings: Field Medic Kit, including a number of anti-venom of various types and a specialised tranq gun with various payloads

Character
Background: Being the son of two brilliant and famous doctors, Song Jin demonstrated high intelligence at a very young age. Unlike many of his classmates, he was soon able to speak another language fluently (English), do complex mathematics and showed promise in the field of science. However, he showed signs of having mild OCD, much like his father who had certain rituals that needed to be followed to alleviate his anxiety. Song Jin also has a sister who is 5 years younger than him. Brilliant as well, she is currently studying medicine and neuroscience.

Upon graduating high school at age 15, Song Jin enrolled to complete a degree in medicine like his parents. At this time, he also picked up Chinese and Japanese, achieved a black belt 4th dan in Hapkido and is a competent gymnast. Upon completion of his degree in record time, he was conscripted into the Korean Army for two years where he underwent basic military training and went thru officer training. During this time, he also trained as a combat medic and undertook training in military medicine. There he improved the dreaded Gas Chamber Training that all conscripted South Korean Nationals have to go through.

Upon completion of his National Service, he took up his residency at the Seoul National University Hospital. Although the youngest registrar, he soon proved his ability to the other consultants and worked in various departments, including Emergency, Nuclear Medicine, Forensics, Immunology & Toxicology. Completing his stint, he left with medical specialisations in Immunology and Toxicology.

Throughout this time, he unfortunately had no time for any social pursuits, that together with his quirks did not make him very popular even with his good looks. Although not socially inept, he has had no experience being with someone of the opposite sex. He is however very close with his family and always have time for them. He especially loves his sister very much.

The next stage of his life changed him forever. Joining Doctors Without Borders, he travelled throughout the poorest and most remote countries in Asia, including Laos, Combodia, India, Myanmar and Tibet. He quickly became the youngest Lead Consultant. His first major incident however became his last with the organisation. Called in to investigate an outbreak of strange disappearances and deaths in Laos, he flew in with little knowledge other than symptoms and vague reports.

Initial reports were on people being stung by various insects coming from a what seem to be a species of the Baobab Tree. These people would then die and decomposition will set in almost instantly and a new tree would grow from the decomposed corpse. Upon arrival at the Laos Base, half the staff was dead or dying. These trees where everywhere in the area. The population of the village decimated. Fatality sat at 100%. It was a race against time to find an antidote to the epidemic.

It was something completely new. Was it an infectious disease? Was it a poison? Did it change the genetics of those affected by the tree? Did the insects and tree share a symbiotic relationship? Channels were opened to to various organisations around the world. But all communication was suddenly cut off. Then one of the nurses fell ill, she was fine at first, then later broke into convulsions. Containment has been broken as she too started to decay at a phonomenal rate. Song Jin used this time to try to formulate an antidote or an anti-venom. It was a race against time.

A few days later, SDP found only one survivor, it was Song Jin. The base was a grove of these trees, however they lay dormant. No insects but no other life. Rescued and debrief, it was later discovered that the species of tree was called a plague tree. The antidote and poison although developed too late to benefit the dead opened up avenues of research into controlling the spread and danger of the plant.

The Foundation found Song Jing’s experience and abilities too valuable to let go and recruited him immediately. With more training provided, especially in firearms, survival, containment protocols and access to the Foundation’s research and facilities. He thrived in the foundation and has been a valuable member since.

Personality: Loyal to friends and family. Will put himself in harms way to save another. Not socially inept but inexperience in the area of romance and sex (Read books on it)
Sexuality: Hetrosexual. No girlfriends or past relationships. Still inexperienced due to previous commitment to studies and then career. Not actively looking for a partner, but is open to it. Although not socially inept, due to his inexperience, those interested in a relationship with him may have to hit him with a big stick to initiate one.
