Her Mother's Footsteps

Author’s note: This is inspired by my recent play-through of Star Wars Battlefront 2. I absolutely adore the main character, Iden Versio. I would very much love to write a story in the Star Wars universe about someone who is equally strong and empowering as Commander Versio. As much criticism EA has gotten due to their marketing strategy, personally I really appreciated the opportunity to play a powerful female lead!

Spoilers Alert!
This thread will contain information about the ending of Star Wars Battlefront 2's Campaign. If you do not wish to know what happens to the storyline, please do not read!

Searing heat from the blaster wounds sent waves of excruciating pain through Del Meeko's dying body. His time was near. It would have come sooner if Gideon Hask, Del's former Inferno Squad teammate didn't succumb to his sadistic desires and just shot him in the head. But Del's murderer made him suffer. Now leaning against the metallic wall of the Corvus cockpit, the dying man sighed and lowered his head. He couldn't move his legs and his arms were barely registering. There wasn't much strength left in him to do anything but die. Still, Del wanted to try; there was one last thing he wanted to see before the eternal darkness finally engulfed him.

Reaching into his jacket, Del retrieved a wrinkled photograph. The man was always an avid collector of vintage trinkets. There was something about feeling a printed image against his fingertips that even the best holograms just couldn't provide. Del held the photograph in his bloodied fingers. It was small and faded. Months of living in the confines of a constantly moving jacket had damaged its integrity. But still, the beauty of its visual image remained, and it brought a forlorn smile onto Del's face.

She looked so much like her mother. Those striking brown eyes carried the same tenacity. But unlike Iden, Del's daughter's smile carried something more. It wouldn't have existed if her childhood was stricken with military training and discipline. Only unconditional love and nurture could create such an innocent expression, and Del was proud of that.

He had given her a good life, or the best he could. His only regret was that he couldn't embrace her one last time.

The photograph fell from Del's still hands and landed peacefully next to his leg. A smile mimicking the one in the photograph remained on his face as passed away.

The story, set in the timeline around Star Wars: The Force Awakens, would focus on Nayva Versio, the daughter of Del Meeko and Iden Versio. She serves the Rebellion as a X-Wing fighter pilot. Like her mother, Nayva is an exceptionally pilot. But she was never the best; Poe Dameron had that esteemed title. Nayva had a respected surname and a mountain of expectations. She was the daughter of the Inferno Squad. Her parents were Rebel legends. Nayva could never live up to their illustriousness. With the Resistance struggling against the onslaught of the First Order, Nayva is given the chance to fight for what she believes in, and also proof herself in the eyes of those around her.

I would like the story to be an exploration of Nayva’s struggle to find herself in a galaxy plagued by conflict. She wants to proof herself in the fight against the First Order. I want to write her struggle against not only the ruthless enemies she encounters, but also the inescapable pressure of trying to live up to her mother’s name.

Below are a few characters that Nayva Vesrio could meet during her travels. These are character guidelines and are by no means fixed personalities. Feel free to browse through the roles I would like to include in my story and edit them to fit your idea and inspiration.

The Soldier

A fellow fighter pilot or an infantry officer whom Nayva is assigned to as his aerial support, the Soldier is someone Nayva knows. They have an existing friendship and the prospect of it developing into something more is there. The Soldier is older and seasoned. He has survived many battles and isn’t surprised to discover Nayva’s ambitious desire to proof her worth. After all, so many young men and women have died trying to achieve greatness.

Themes: Romantic Relationship. Action/Adventure, Personal Struggles, Mentorship.

The Scoundrel

A smuggler, rogue or mercenary who crosses path with Nayva. He is forced to work with Nayva, either under the promise of credits or coerced into compliance. The Scoundrel is the opposite of Nayva. Where she wants people’s recognition and respect, he doesn’t care what people think of him. She believes in the Rebellion and what it stands for, he believes in money and keeping himself alive and free. What starts as a love-hate relationship could blossom into something more intimate as the two depend on each other through their travels.

Themes: Romantic Relationship. Personality Conflict, Action/Adventure, Older/Younger Pairing

"I will find you, and I will k-...E-stalk you!"

If you message me, and I like you, I'm going to browse your profile and read through your posts. It's marketing research! I want to know who I'm dedicating my literary muse to, and whether you will be as accommodating to me as I am to you. Please don't be offended! Sometimes I may not find our writing styles compatible, and if that's the case, I will either politely decline your offer, or suggest another story prompt that we can discuss.

My Writing Style

Character Development - When I write, I like to focus on the inner thoughts of my characters. In many of my stories, I explore the reasoning behind characters' actions because personally, I feel that people always do things for a reason. Whether one is conscious or unconscious of it, we always have a motivation behind everything we do. I also like to develop characters through interactions with other characters.

Detailed Posts - At times, my posts can rather extensive in length. Other times they may be short. I don't like length requirements because I don't normally obey them myself. If the story requires quick responses between characters, then my posts will be short. If I feel like there needs to be more information to build a scene, then I will write more. However, I do expect a degree of detail from writers. It's rather demoralizing when I spend hours writing a well-crafted post only to receive a mediocre effort in response.

Multiple Characters - I do not expect this from a partner, but I often incorporate minor characters to help construct a detailed perspective of the plot. Usually it's for the benefit of the readers so they can understand the story better, but I also feel that including other characters' perspectives divide the stress of explaining everything using one character. For example, I may write a soldier who observes Nayva's personality in a way she couldn't just directly tell YC. She may not expressively show her personal interests to YC, but may interact with my NPC so that YC knows of those ideas. I feel this is a much more natural way for exposition than having MC announce her likes to YC like they're speed dating!

Posting Frequency - I work full-time, 9-10 hours a day. Then I go home, cook, clean and pay my bills (I have so much in common with all of you!). When I'm done with everything, I'm either too tired to write, or too insecure about my writing quality to post. I do try to write something every 3-5 days. If I disappear, feel free to message me. I'm probably hiding in my Palace of Procrastination, trying to avoid responsibilities. Please don't hesitate to pinch, nudge or yell at me to get back to work (my mother approves; she's been doing it my whole life).
Jan 18th I'm sorry my partners! My work is starting soon and I need some time to do some paperwork to get ready. I  won't be able to write for a little bit, but I will return and reply your posts! Really sorry!
