It (they) seem like a fun system, and I'd like to try out a campaign even if it doesn't fully follow the metaplot.  So if there is any GM out there willing to run a small group (or even a solo if we can rework it somehow) let me know!

Raveled

I could run MYZ if there's an interested group. I think MYZ solo could work but it would be... very different. If you want to discuss doing it solo, though...

What's it like, story and setting-wise?  Just curious.

Thanks Raveled!  Hopefully we can get a couple more people who are interested!

Post-apocalyptic exploration.  The players are mutants from a small community who go out and explore the ruins.  There is a heavy emphasis on building/improving your original home.  The rest is on exploration, finding artifacts, food, weapons, etc.  Dealing with other groups.  The usual post-apocalyptic stuff.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
In this game, you play as one of The People - heavily mutated humans living in The Ark, a small and isolated settlement in a sea of chaos. The outside world is unknown to you, and so is your origin.

Mutant: Year Zero has two major game environments, each with its own style of play:

The Ark, your home in the dawnworld. A nest of intrigue and Lord of the Flies-style power struggles, it's far from a safe haven. But it's the only home you know, and just maybe the cradle of a new civilization. The game rules let you improve and develop the Ark in the areas of Warfare, Food Supply, Technology, and Culture. It is up to you, the players, to decide which projects to embark on.

The Zone, wastelands outside the Ark. You will venture into the Zone in search of food, artifacts, other mutants, and knowledge - not least about The People's own origin. The game includes two maps of example Zones; London and New York and a plethora of tables and other tools to let the GM populate its sectors with mutants, deadly monsters and bizarre phenomena.

Mutant Genlab is focused on genetically engineered anthropomorphic (hopefully I am remembering the right word) animals, with a bit more of a focus on insurgency I think.  Though the two systems are compatible and it talks about how to bring them into a Year Zero game.

MYZ looks pretty amazing.  Depending on plot elements and if you'd be willing to tolerate a noob to the system and setting, I'd be interested in joining up.

Do we have people interested in a campaign? MYZ is in a postapocalyptic version of our world, so where do you want it placed?

So here's an idea I'm going to pitch to you. Maybe this isn't the right time to do it because of Harvey and Irma but: a game set in Florida. Or rather, the flooded ruins and remains of the Florida Everglades. The Ark could be a beached barge on the shores of Lake Okee or a large riverboat floating up and down the Kissimmee River. There'd be wetlands and insects and flooding and storms to deal with, but it provides a different sort of backdrop to the usual ruined cities or barren deserts that seem to dominate post-apocalyptic stuff.

Like I said, Harvey and Irma are what put this in my head so maybe this isn't the right time to run this sort of setting, but I figure I'd throw it out there as an idea.

The idea of connected islands and channels could make an interesting setting, whatever's the determined location, with the core group focused around a Huck Finn type journey by swamps and rivers.  Twain with mutants and mayhem.

Something to keep in mind with MYZ is the Ark: it's your home, it's where everyone you have ever known lives and it's the centerpoint of the campaign. A lot of time is spent upgrading and fixing and protecting and providing for the Ark and the people there, so any MYZ game is going to be a more grounded campaign built less around adventure and travel and more around protecting what you already have.

Would it be strict year zero, or could I use alpha?

If I run this it would be strict Year Zero since I don't have Alpha.

I'm excited to get interest from so many people. I'd like to get some kind of reply back from cleric before we proceed, since she was the one who first expressed interest and I'd hate to leave her behind.

I don't know anyone else interested, so it would just be people who post in this thread unless you wanted to put up an advertisement thread once we get going.  I don't mind new players, but it would of course be up to Raveled.  I am fine with Florida (or anywhere else)!

TheLaughingOne

Oohh, i got an interest in mutant!  And florida is cool to, specially with the ocean themed module set in..

Its called deep blue sea, it is a slim splat and explains rules and such for characters in aquatic setting places, more mutations, monsters, and so forth, if ya like i got the pdf somewhere, tbough not to vital, but fitting for a florida game.

.....

Random thing from me, id love to see a wild random encounter with the Rad Ghoul "florida man" an insane survivor from the cataclysm that commits random acts of idiocy in the zone... :3

What level if content are people expecting? I'm considering putting this in Non-Adult just because MYZ is based more in survival than anything else. Keep in mind that your characters, at least to start with, are sterile so pregnancy isn't an issue.

Im good with whatever, thoigh its not quite as pg as one might expect on that level... quite a few slavers in splats specificly target more attractive characters for slave and "other things" (bowchikawowwow).

I only mentioned deep blue sea with the mention of florida being a prime aqua based area. It has a very water world feel, just with more land open and less horrible cringe acting.

Sure, but while that sort of thing can be mentioned we don't need to play out those scenes. If your character wants to heal Empathy then just mention that they are visiting Barrow's bordello, but I don't have any interest in playing out those scenes opposite you. If some players really want to do a scene like that you're welcome to spin off you're own thread, but I'd rather focus on the basics of survival and the politics of the Ark.

I bought the book and I'm just reading through it now, but I'd like to toss my hat into the ring.
Thank you, fellow Elliquiyan, and have a wonderful day.

Does anyone else have an opinion? I sort of feel that I'm only talking to TheLaughingOne here.

I would have liked to have used alpha, but, I'll flick through the corebook and see what to play

I'm fine with everything that was discussed so far. A watery based game seems interesting, either as a stable base next to a river or a floating ark type of Ark. I'm fine with a non-adult type game. I don't have any books yet, though I plan on acquiring them once it's time. I have read the available free chapters, though. I'm leaning towards wanting to play a Gearhead.
