"We don't..." he stopped speaking, catching sight of a young man who seemed to briefly appear in the room before vanishing again. "Okay, tell me I'm not the only one who saw that."

“ we’re are using his room right?”

[Lady Jenn]

"I don't think so," he replied. "Otherwise we'd have seen him before now, it's like..." he paused to think for a moment. "It's like we're seeing whoever it is either only when he wants us to, or when his concentration slips enough his defences fail."

“Well if he knows that now we will have no chance “

[Lady Jenn]

"I don't appreciate the implication," the man said, appearing suddenly in front of them. He was dressed in a rather tatty-looking military uniform, unkempt brown hair obscuring his right air. "I, like you, enjoy my privacy, I had assumed my passage through this room was entirely unseen."

" whome are you and why are you here sir?"

[Lady Jenn]

"I'm guessing you're not Spyder," Isaac said, looking at him curiously. "And Dane doesn't come across as someone who's too bothered about hiding from people."

"I'm afraid I don't have a codename," the man replied. "But my name is Jake, my powers are...unusual. Due to a scientific accident my body phases in and out of our reality, not always out of choice on my part."

She looked at him" and why here and now?"

[Lady Jenn]

"Because I'm hungry," Jake replied, blushing deeply. "And my diet is so specific that they keep my fridge in here to avoid anyone else being tempted to raid it for supplies."

" ok well erm were sorry to have disturbed you'

[Lady Jenn]

"It's no bother," he said, chuckling. "I should've left some warning I might be coming in and out, you had no reason to suspect you'd have company."

“ you expected me to be here?”

[Lady Jenn]

"No," he replied. "But if I'd been smart I'd have left something as a precaution, more people come in and out of this room than they think I'm aware of."

“ well er can go sorry to be in your way”

"No, stay here," Jake said, smiling. "Besides, talking to people is one of the few times I can stay focused long enough to avoid phasing by accident."

" well erm it was nice to meet you "

"I dealt with someone with similar powers once," Isaac said after Jake had vanished again. "It wasn't Jake, this guy would be at least ten years older than him."

"I'm still amazed you can control yours," he said. "I'm not sure I'd be able to control it if it was me."

"Which I'd hope is a good thing?" he asked. "I mean, I don't see why it wouldn't be."

"I shall tread very carefully then," he said, laughing. "Just feel free to warn me if I get a bit too close to making you go green."
