This is an interest check for an idea for a zombie apocalypse game in a super hero universe. For the most part, it would be a typical zombie apoc, but the survivors would all be superheroes. I'm thinking fairly low grade to medium power heroes trying to cope with a crumbling world. It would be interesting to take the zombie genre, which usually focuses on regular people trying to survive, and see how powers mix in with that. From a moral perspective, the heroes, for whom once saving people was their goal, now have to balance that with simply saving their own skin.

I would have a character of my own in this, and I'm thinking no more than three other players. I don't have oodles of time, so this would be a fairly slow moving game, probably at most two to three posts per week. It would be moderated in the sense that outcomes are not predetermined, although I would give you leeway for much of your posts, only making a judgement call on risky situations.

If anyone is interested, feel free to respond to this thread. If I run with this idea, it won't be first come first served, I'll make evaluations.

Happy gaming!

This looks really interesting and I need medium to slow moving. I would be playing female

Very interested, and highly anticipating seeing the various mutated strains of zombie that will be sure to come from this. Should a character be zombified, will he be playable in his zombified state?

Nope, no player zombies. There won't be any, or at least very few, powered zombies either. Think Walking Dead meets DC Heroes, and mainly street level type heroes.

Kk, still interested.

Awesome. As an added bonus, I will eat the brain of the first person who pitches a character concept.

Bernardo Hoagie

My concept: an Anarcho-Communist Punk Rocker with the ability to build up, drain, store, and expel energy, either through heat, kinetic action, or explosives.

I have three I keep debating on:

1) MC can transform into a ghost, meaning she can pass through any barrier, is invincible for the time she is in her ghost form, and communicate with other members of the recently-dead.

2) Can absorb ANY forms of energy and turns them into bullets or bombs.

3) She can change her pheromones, everything from attracting animals, to smelling like a zombie so she can walk through a crowd of them unfazed.

Also, tell me more about this. By "drain," do you mean suck energy out of other sources? How much power are we talking here?

Yes, he drains power from other sources, and what ever amount you consider street level, I'm not sure how much is too much.

I'm not liking #1, let's not have our zombies talking.

The punk rocker beat you to #2. Your consolation: I ate his brain.

#3 is interesting, and has definite survival value in a zombified world. This could explain why she's still breathing. Back when the world was in one piece, how did this make her a hero?

Okay, tell me more. Does he have to touch a thing to suck it dry, is it all forms of energy, and if you say "kinetic" are you also talking when he takes a punch or fall?

I was going to ask if there was a chance I could make her a villain....
I was thinking similar to Scarecrow....

Ooh, thank you for the reminder. Yes, characters can be villains to. Heroes or villains. I think that would be fun having them in a survival group together.

So, a Scarecrow type ... I like it.

Tell me more about this person. Her name, a paragraph or two that summarizes her. Please :)

Either is fine. I like images too, it helps get the mind in gear for when we read.

If we run a villain group, that would be great! I'll answer your questions later.

Oooh, it's not a villain group. Heroes or villains. It can be a mixed group.

Also keep in mind that your characters are not doing well. You are displaced and struggling just like everyone else. So, keep this in mind if you have a high tech character who needs lot of resources, you won't have them.

We'll figure out some reason why you're all together in a single group. We'll probably come up with a back story that brings us to the present moment.

If I'm not to late to express interest I would like too. I had the thought of a character similar to Amethyst , only she's been gone for all this time only to return and find the earth Zombiefied...your basic enchanted sword sort of person.  (Also could be played as an evilish version, if needed someone more..well..evil)

Another, though admittedly much lower power idea I had would be someone whose can become completely frictionless. She'd be very hard, though not impossible, for a zombie to nom.

The final idea I had would be someone whose powers are based on what zodiac it currently is (or chinese new year). Example if it were during the Pisces time period she could perhaps...breath underwater... Sagittarius excellent shot..etc etc.

Time to answer questions!

They way I imagine his power, it has 5 modes:

Fast Regain-Draining Touch: The quickest way to gain energy, he touches any object or person, and drains up to %100 of its energy, leaving it completely frozen. Obviously, easier to use this on objects, because humans can be wiggly, especially when they get a real cold spot.

Slow Regain-Energy Absorption: He absorbs 10% of energy from all sources of energy that effect him. He has to be careful though, because big sources of energy tend to be deadly, like bombs, or bullets. He also loses energy when in cold areas, and must stay hydrated in hot places.

Storage-Fitness Increase: the extra energy he gains go to his muscles, giving him increased muscle strength as long as he has the energy. This energy also speeds up his healing ability, which is a constant drain on his enhanced athletic abilities.

Slow Release-Heat Beam: Releases an invisible beam of heat from his hand, seen only by the irradiating heat it gives out. Gradually heats up anything it touches, up to being engulfed in flames/melted. Prolonged use of this ability burns his hands.

Fast Release-Explosive Force- Releases a sudden burst of heat and kinetic force, each explosion taking up 20% of his maximum energy. If it's okay, he can put this explosive energy into anything he touches, turning it into a bomb that explodes on impact. This ability is usable on living things, but it takes a moment to take effect, enough time for most to react and get away.

As for who he is, I imagine him being a violent Vigilante, who's a bandit and a raider in the zombie apocalypse.

I want to keep this story as grounded as possible, so let's not go with aliens like Amethyst. The frictionless person is interesting, if for nothing more than the more I think about that the more amusing it seems, but I'm liking your zodiac idea. You'd have to come up with 12 powers and keep track of it, plus create a background and identity that makes sense.

I want to avoid magic in this universe, so please no magical origins.

I like the basic concept, but it's too much and too powerful for this setting. A character like this would be a powerhouse in a zombie apoc, and we need some vulnerability. Here are some tinkers:

• Let's go with a single energy source he can drain: sunlight, electricity, bio-electric (people), heat, something. However, not kinetic. Kinetic makes him invulnerable to most common forms of damage, and that's sitting a little too safely.

• He essentially has 6 powers: energy absorption, increased strength, regeneration, heat beam, explosion, and bomb making. This is too many for this setting. Let's cut this down to 3. Since energy absorption is essential, then choose two of the others to go with it.

I'm not understanding the cold spot thing. This is a weakness?

Bernardo Hoagie

Alright, he drains heat from people and things, and loses energy to cold. For powers, he has increased strength and bomb-making. I was trying to be funny with the cold spot thing, it's just that anything he drains energy from is left frozen.
