I'm going to leave recruitment open till 00:01 GMT Sunday morning, 27th August. All you need to post is a short paragraph of character concept, so, hopefully that won't be too much of a barrier. Then we'll do detailed sheets and try to get started next week. I don't advise anyone to make a full character (unless that's necessary to flesh out your concept), but we'll be starting at 4th level.

Hi!

This has some definite interest, so, I've modified the opening post appropriately and made it into a recruitment thread. The plan is to run the game in the Eberron setting, for which a good intro can be found here:

https://inky.org/rpg/eberron/setting.html

Though there's no requirement to worship a deity, and there are other faiths in Eberron, most in the Five Nations worship either the Silver Flame or the Sovereign Host(/Dark Six). Since for some reason I can't find it elsewhere, I've added a relationship chart for the latter.

This will be somewhat unusual recruitment process, mainly because of the need to match mothers with sons, which may require a certain flexibility around the race you prefer to play. Familiarity with D&D is preferred, but, not required by any means. I can support you through the mechanical elements if necessary. The system will be either Pathfinder or 5th edition D&D, although it looks like we are leaning towards Pathfinder. If you're interested, can you post with answers to the following questions. Thanks!

1)   This will be a play-by-post-in-forum game since there is a clear consensus in favour of this. , or a play-live game (for me, this would have to be around 18:30-23:30 GMT on a weekday evening). What are your preferences?

2)   I was planning to run this game under the Pathfinder system, and it seems this is the group consensus. but I’m willing to run the game under the D&D 5th Edition system instead. What are your preferences?

3)   Please post your character concept. It’ll be more important to know: Mother/Son; Class; preferred Race; and some overview of who the character is. There’s no need to write more than a short paragraph at this point. If you’re open to either a mother or a son, feel free to post two concepts, or just mention that you’re willing to do the alternate. I’m intending to run the game in the Eberron setting, so if you’re familiar you can include elements from it.

I’m interested in running - or, if someone else would like to Dungeon Master, that’s fine too - a Dungeons and Dragons game with the particular conceit of mother-son incest.

I’m imagining a four-person adventuring party, probably a mother, her sister, and their two sons. In the course of their adventuring, they reveal a hidden or sealed aspect of the mother-goddess, and become sexually drawn to one another. We’d track - and roleplay - their journey from their initial seduction of each other to become lovers, then manage that in a society likely to disapprove, then set about changing that society.

Mechanically, I’d either run this as a play-by-post-in-forum game here on Elliquiy, or, if the players want to mark out some specific time for this, using some kind of live-chat client. I’d probably use the Pathfinder system, and the Eberron setting, drawing elements from a published adventure.

Please express your interested in the thread, or feel free to Personal Message me! (It'd be good if you can say which of the mother-son role you're interested in, too!)

Yours,

euanthe

Definitely interested in something like this!

Do you have any ideas on the sort of adventure types?  Is the idea focused on the incest aspect, or there's a bigger adventure at hand and the characters involved just so happen to be involved with each other?

They'd be on some adventure to start with to uncover that aspect of the Mother-Goddess. (Edit: To be clear, they'd be on some apparently unrelated adventure that would lead to them uncovering the mother-goddess's incestuous aspect by accident). That would then lead, eventually, to them adventuring, presumably with the aim of making mother-son incest acceptable throughout the world or nation. In any case, there'd be an emphasis on the incestuous aspect, yes.

(Oh, do let me know if you're interested in being a mother or a son, or either).

I would be up for that as one of the sons as well.

Angie

Oh Pathfinder you say? I can be up for Pathfinder. Wish I had seen that earlier. I'm down for any role, I would prefer son but I can do mom as well.

It does look like we need a few Mom's, but, shall we give it a day or so to see if anyone else is interested in those roles, if you'd prefer to be a son?

Or maybe building their own society/nation should it fail to catch on!

Well, here's hoping we can get missing roles!

I am learning pathfinder still but I have played a good deal of 3.5 if you would be interested in me playing a mother.

Okay! So, I have changed the title of the thread from ‘interest check’ to ‘recruitment’, since I think there is sufficient interest to definitely do this roleplay. Can everyone who’s interested please modify their post, or make a new one, answering the following questions -

1)   This will be a play-by-post-in-forum game since there is consensus on that, or a play-live game (for me, this would have to be around 18:30-23:30 GMT on a weekday evening). What are your preferences?

Can't do it live, and I prefer Pathfinder.

If Mother, I'd like to play a glorious Paladin fighting for the glory of my goddess. If son, I'd probably be a Wizard, a prodigal wizard who's maybe a bit more confident when it comes to matters of seduction...

Swordsman18

I will not be able to do it live so play by post is fine for me.

I am actually really adept with 5e so that is my preference.

In regards to my character, I will either play a fighter who at one time was a champion at a series of local games but gave it up when she decided to settle down and have a child. Or I will play a Warlock who when she was younger made a deal with a dark force for power but is now trying to redeem herself for her son's sake. So she devotes herself to the Goddess while trying to find a way to either change her source of power or a way to nullify the deal she made.

Quasar

Live probably won't be possible for me, plus I suspect I've got different times; ergo - playing the in the forums would be best.

I'm equally comfortable with Pathfinder as with 5e, so either works for me.

(Character concept to follow shortly.)

Swordsman18

It is, we are just working on character concepts and the like.

DrLovegood

Cool, what kind of characters are you still looking for? I was interested in playing a mother. I see you prefer Pathfinder, I have experience with both pathfinder and DnD 3.5 through 5. I'm a little confused though. Do you mean you want to ply in a Pathfinder/DnD game? or character should be build with a pathfinder/DnD sheet in mind.

We're going to pick one. Probably Pathfinder at this point. So build a pathfinder character.

Ive got the character in mind! What level should they be?

The character is a mother. A Kitsune Fighter, Follower of Desna. She has traveled from the north due to wanderlust.(intial concept) I'm pretty excited.lol

Quasar

Okay, so for a character concept, I'm thinking possibly a Monk or a Magus of NG alignment.

Not sure of the race, since that will depend on the parent(s) available.  I am most partial to human, half-elf, or aasimar.

Hi! I can tell - excitement is good! I'm planning on using the Eberron setting, which uses different deities, who are somewhat less involved in the world than in Forgotten Realms or Golarion. I'd suggest either 'Ollandra' or 'The Traveller' as possible deities, if that's important to you. 'The Traveller' could literally be Desna, even - their origins have always been a bit mysterious. Races are going to be a bit complex since you're going to have to have a son who's also a player character (or run by me, I suppose), so we'll have to see how that shakes out and negotiate it within the group. For those reasons, I'd hold off on a sheet for now.

I hope to be able to take everyone who's interested, but, it will depend on the numbers. If there are too many, selection will be based on the concepts and how mothers and sons can best be married up.

DrLovegood

Oh I see, I didn't really understand how these characters were being chosen / accepted. Also admitted  I've never heard of the world that you mentioned,  Eberron ,  I will Read more about it and get back to you.

Generally my concept was Fighter out to experience the thrill of adventuring while in her prime.. But I am considering a healing domain type cleric, unafraid of battle, still prone to wanderlust, if the party may need one.

Hi!

This Eberron 101 isn't bad...

https://inky.org/rpg/eberron/setting.html

One key thing to note is that a big war (the optimistically named 'Last War') has just ended - or paused - with the mysterious destruction of one of the principle nations fighting in it - so you might be a soldier, mustered out of the army, looking to grasp a life of adventure. This isn't at all incompatible with your having a son. They were probably raised by a spouse or military creche, with visits from 'mom' during her leaves. Or perhaps you were a mercenary. Or perhaps lived outside the Five Nations who were the principles in that Last War. I should note that NPCs with class levels are rare in Eberron. Most troops have levels in NPC classes. Even at first level - and I doubt I'll start the campaign at first level - you'd be an elite soldier by the standards of any army of the Five Nations.

I'm planning on using Eberron because -

1) I know it! I have most of the books, and I can support an in-depth world better in Eberron than in Golarion, Forgotten Realms or (is Greyhawk the standard 5th edition setting?)
2) There's pretty decent Eberron pathfinder and 5th edition conversions. E.g. here: http://pf-eberron.wikidot.com/ I'm not guaranteeing to use all that stuff, but it's a decent starting point to handling things like, e.g. Dragonmarked Houses, that don't appear in Pathfinder by default.
3) Eberron's a more socially advanced society. Fucking your mom or son just won't be accepted, and it's not a case where the noble can simply do as they please. Which gives us a chance to play some incestuous taboo, as well as letting the players have a chance to change social taboos.
4) Eberron's default faith - the Sovreign Host - is a family pantheon, which lets us do 'divinely inspired' incest. However, the Gods don't take an active role and may not actually exist. So Arawai isn't going to show up in person and correct your divine revelation that you need to take your son to your bed.

One thing we'll need to discuss as a group is what level of pulp and seriousness is desired. Would you prefer your climactic fight on the deck of a flaming airship plunging from the sky, or in an ancient temple to dark gods, for example?

If Eberron is a huge turn off for everyone, I could run this in Greyhawk, Golarion, or Forgotten Realms instead though!

Hope that help!

Greyhawk used to be the default for 3 & 3.5, but now, the Forgetten Realms is the default for 5e.  Just for trivia, lol  ;D

My preference has always run with the darker side of fantasy, so cults and such are always a favourite.  That said, I grew up on pulp, so if circumstances take us to the deck of a flaming airship, you'll not find me complaining!

It been a while, but Eberron was one of my favorite setting back in the day, and come to think of it, it still is among my favorites (if just slightly edged out by Pathfinder's Golarion) so I'd be more than happy to make a come back to it - heck all my books are still there and I can dust them out if info is needed.

I don't know how many players will know about it, but I think the nation that was devastated that euanthe is talking about is called Cyre - complete magical catastrophe.  I think it might make for a good collective homeland for the PCs - with the loss of everything, the survivors are bound to be little lost themselves (in the psychological sense) and trying to find find something new to go with or justify the loss.  That's just my opinion though; no need to go spreading it around. (kudos if you know where that comes from!)

As well as Arwei (being a fertility goddess), the Fury (of the Dark Six pantheon) might also make an interesting patron/source of inspiration, being something of the goddess of madness and passion.
