This headache is annoying. It wasn’t just the dull ache resting at the base of his skull. No, what started to get on his nerves was not knowing what caused it. Was it stress? Lack of sleep? Not enough caffeine?

Quentin takes another pull of the Starbucks caramel latte he got to get him through the morning before placing it back onto the cold counter of the lab. Perched on a stool, he pulls out a slim laptop and pulls up the project he’s been working on for the past week.

He’s a couple minutes early, but he glances at the time, regardless.

His life revolved around time. Time was his master and he had to pay particular attention to it. In fact, he’ll have to leave class early to make his appointment. Hospitals were usually not his domain, but the soul scheduled for Passing belonged to a family he had followed for decades.

He was particularly fond of the Greene family and he wished to give each one a smooth transition.

Scratching the stubble at his jaw, his dark eyes glide to the door of the room. Any minute and his lab partner should be walking through.

Carolina Montez was an over achiever to a fault, she had started as a lab assistant in high school and hadn't stopped since then. She worked all summer long too. Most would burn out, but she couldnt imagine doing anything else. She had a thirst to solve problems, to learn about how the world works.
That was ironic though, because she had absolutely no idea that anything was not as it seemed.

Molecules made sense, anything supernatural did not. Hell, she didnt even believe in any kind of religion, she could not wrap her mind around anything that she could not prove. She had no clue that right beside her, there was a whole other world existing, going on without her knowledge.

She had spent the better part of the morning in the student research lab, and then had a TA gig with the freshman lab. Keeping those kids from accidentally killing themselves was exhausting to the ever professional and uptight Carolina.

She had read the lab the night before. She didnt know the randomly assigned partner. Come to think of it, she couldnt really place him anywhere. She figured he was the one guy she didn't know in the room with the empty stool. Easy enough, she thought as she walked over to him.

"You Quentin?'

She offered him her hand to shake.

"Carolina Montez. Feel free to call me Lina, if you prefer"
