Plot
The Prince's Companions are a small band of women, slected from the ranks of a guild known as The Sisterhood, who accompany each son of the ruling monarch, at all times. Everywhere from the confines of his bedroom, to the baths, to the library, the feasting halls, out hunting or the training grounds and to the battlefield.  They are to be his closest friends and his bodyguards, for the realm is a dangerous place for princlings. Upon the age of seventeen, a prince leaves the protection of his mother's solar (a separate tower or manor for the queen) and enters into a world designed to make sure the strongest and most cunning lord rules the land.

Royal brothers are not only encouraged but expected to kill each other nor is the royal household set in stone. Through cunning plot or force of arms, should a lesser lord take the crown, he shall be king (save in times of war). Of course that would put any of his kin, serving as a companion, under suspension. The death of each prince is investigated and should it come to pass, that a companion helped to slay her prince, then she and all of her family are put to the sword, even the new claimant to the throne. Throughout history, there are recordings of sisters fighting brothers, daughters fighting fathers and even sisters fighting sisters, to protect an unrelated man.

Setting
The Kingdom of Ahremberg

A nation roughly the size of modern France but with a more German feel to it. Subdivided into often feuding or positioning baronies, counties, principalities, duchies and grand duchies. Intermarried family squabble about who owns what lands, based on who they are related to and how far back their line has laid claimed to a forest, valley, farmstead or township. Small wars break out now and then, as one lord attempts to forcibly make his claim to another's lands. At times, such petty conflicts grow so large, that the King's army is made to intervene, least the conflict boil over into a civil war, as other great men pick sides, either in support or to simply settle old grudges.

The histories tell us, that the beginning of this grand kingdom, there was a tribe called the Remi and they were ruled by a king called Adalgis. They were threatened by an alliance of two tribes to the north, the Berglandlings and the Ahdenii. Now Adalgis was a weak man, in both body and spirit. He feared the death of his tribe and was prepared to submit to them but his younger brother, Gerold, a large and bold man, was not. On the eve before the King and his chieftains were suppose to go before their enemies and grovel, Gerold slipped into his brother's tent and murdered him, cutting of his head and sticking it upon a spear before the chieftains. As these greater men look on in horror, Gerold declared himself the new King, crying out that only the strong deserved to rule and snatched the crown from the head of his dead brother.

Drawing sword, Gerold lead the chieftains and their retainers on a night march, catching the camp of the allied kings by surprise. A short but bloody battle ensued, where Gerold slew both the King of Bergland and mortally wounded the King of the Ahdenii. Most of the lesser lords of the Ahdenii perished and their King begged for his people, even as he died, offering his daughter for Gerold's bride. Gerold accepted the King's offer, before the remaining Ahdenii nobles and then turned upon the Bergland troops still upon the field. They held their ground and many of their nobles yet lived but they were surrounded by the Remi warriors and worse yet, the surviving Ahdenii joined the ranks of the victorious Remi. Outnumbered and without their armor, the Berglandlings surrendered, pledging themselves to King Gerold.

After the great victory, peace did not come to the Remi people. Although their king offered his daughter to Gerold before most of the remaining Ahdenii nobles and they fought against the Berglandlings, the Ahdenii rejected Gerold as their king. Pretenders to the Ahdenii crown seemed to spring from the very ground, forcing the Remi to campaign against them for many years, until the last and greatest of their strongholds fell before the ever victorious Gerold. However, this only welted his battle lust and for many years afterwards, the combined Kingdom of Ahdenii-Remi-Bergland conquered other small nations around them.

Upon his deathbed, Gerold looked around at his many sons (for his loins were strong) and declared he would not split his kingdom among them but would hand over his bloody crown to his one surviving heir. His sons looked upon their father and each other in confusion, until one of the younger, standing in the back realized this was his one and only chance to be king and drew a seax from his belt, then stabbed one of his brothers, setting off a brawl around a dying old man. At the end of the day, only one son remained standing and took the crown from his father's cold hands.

So was set forth how kingship of Ahremberg was to be taken. It was not to be the oldest or a declared heir to the thrown but by the strongest of sons. The other noble families, as they intermarried with the royal line, began to follow suit, hoping to groom their own sons to seize the crown. Over time, the Consul of Temples, set forth rules to this game, after one brutal bastard call King Grimbert Babeslayer, removed all of his brothers, while they were still in the cradle, including killing one as he nursed from their mother's breast. From then on, all princlings, of any noble house were safe, until they reach manhood at seventeen.

Father's also tried to protect their sons with bodyguards but men were found unsuited to the task, as they either paved the way for their brothers to seize the throne or were found to still owe loyalty to their old lords in battle. Such men were still found to betray their change, even after laws were placed, in which a betrayer's family would be slain. A guard was needed that was more likely want to protect their families and so the kings turned to the daughters of the nobility, founding the Prince's Companions, from those who could never inherit titles and were therefore immune to the corruption of power struggles.

Over the years, a guild rose from this system. Referred to as The Sisterhood, they trained young ladies in the arts, from those expected for their gender, as well as statecraft and the martial skills they would need to serve a young lord (be he of royal blood or of powerful noble family), along with some talents, which are less then mentionable in polite conversation. While the lords of the land are not forced by law, to give their younger daughters to the Sisterhood, it is expected that they will. Either that or donate large sums to the guild. In addition to the young ladies of Ahremberg but a number of foreigners are within their ranks. As part of peace agreements with other nations, the warlords of Ahremberg make their foes surrender a tribute of young ladies to protect the sons of their conquerors.

Such a tribute serves a duel purpose, it keeps the lords of defeated lands form launching new assaults upon Ahremberg and provide dedicated guards for young prices and lords. In addition to the normal rules of the Sisterhood, where if a Prince's Companion allows her charge to die, the guild (with the Temple's support) descends upon their family with fire and sword, those coming from defeated lands, will also carry the burden of getting one in ten of their people killed as well. Of course, if her charge becomes King, she can attempt to use her influence over him to improve the lot of her people.

Because of the large numbers of tributes and the large family's of the nobility, the Sisterhood's ranks are swelled to the point where there are more ladies then can serve as Companions. While it has always been tradition that once a sister reach the age of twenty, that she was too old to join a Prince coming into his majority  but within recent generations, it has become a rule. This as left the guild with a surplus of combat train women on their hands. Some of theses ladies become teachers for the new sisters or other such staff in the guild buildings. Other form a small standing army, used to punish those who break guild law.

Prince Randolf

Played By: IrishWolf

Name: Randolf, son of King Volbrecht, of House Kaysser

Age: 17

Rank: Prince

Personality: First and foremost, Randolf is a survivor, he has bested death once already (at least in his own mind) and nothing in this world can kill him. Like his brothers and forefathers, arrogance, pride and ruthlessness flow in his veins, mingled with his blood.  The driving force of his life, is to take control of one of, if not the most powerful nation in the world and he doesn't give a damn if it's his hands or soul coated in blood to get there. Any who stand in his way, will be removed. However, if he does have one thing he loves in this world, its his hounds and woe to those who harm his pack of hunting and war dogs.

Backstory: Randolf is the seventh of eleven sons (among a number of daughters), fathered by King Volbrecht and the forth to be born to his wife, Queen Alveena, although, as is custom she is considered the mother of all eleven boys. The first six years of his life were rather uneventful, in terms of story telling at least, playing under the watchful eyes of his mother or the maids. However, midway through his seventh year, as he was about to begin his education, sickness swept into the capital city of Fellissa and was brought into the Queen's Solar by a common maid, who would later die. He caught Smallpox but survived, when three sisters and two brothers did not but it left him scared, mostly on his face.

When he had recovered from the sickness and was declared fit (sooner then his mother wished), he was placed at the whim of three old knights, who were charged in delivering to him the training he would need. As the son of a king, he didn't have the privilege of seven years as a page and then seven as squire, like lesser noble lads and was forced to learn hard and fast, everything they did in just eight. Long days of practicing with weighted wooden weapons, being knocked around by veteran warriors, until he could hold his own against them. He grew tall and strong under such masters, spending his nights studying for demanding but wizened old men.

He first saw a man die and helped in the killing of him, at the age of ten. Attending his father for the Harvest Feast, he was serving wine at the head table. Now the patter loaded with goblets was given to him by a new man, hired by the Majordomo to take over the wine cellar, unknowingly hiring a man loyal one the King's elder sons. The wine was laced with a vile herb, which caused one to die in a twitching fit, with bloody foam on the lips but luckily only one man at the table passed on, when he took a quick drink before the evening's first toast. Unfortunately he was the son of a visiting ambassador and the incident lead to a quick war.

Arts Studied: First and foremost, the art of war. Not just swordplay but of the great campaigns, of tactics and logistics, of how to rally men to his banner and lead them to victory. Tutored in the histories of his line and nation by aged scholars, they also crammed as much of mathematics and diplomacy as they could into his skull, along with reading and writing. One day a week, he attending class at the Temple, learning of the Gods and their will. Randolf has also had some education in the arts of the bed chamber, although physical lessons have been few and recent, as it is assumed he will learn those with his Companions but he shouldn't be completely inexperienced when he meets them.

Best Skills: As with any son of the nobility or royalty, a vast majority of his studies have been in the martial arts, of sword and shield, grappling and riding. Trained by knight's in his father's personal retinue, he has had a knight full training, condensed into half the years required and often brutal in it's regiment. In addition in his ability to fight, he also seems to have a natural talent, in the breeding of hounds and horses, seeming to know which beasts to mate, in order to get the desired traits in his mounts and dogs.

Weapon(s): Arming sword, lance, dagger and shield

Appearance: Randolf is the image of a warrior prince of the Kaysser line. Tall but still growing, he stands near to six feet in height and its speculated that he's either match or surpass his father's six and a half feet when he's finally done growing. Fit and trim from his training, with broad shoulders to carry the weight of armor and swing weapons make him an attractive figure, with shoulder length, nut brown hair, pulled back with a simple leather band. His face, with strong jaw and hooked nose might have been handsome, had it not been for the pox scars under his eyes, over his nose and across his brow. A broad scar runs from his hairline down to split his left eyebrow, a souvenir of a how close he came to dying during a training bout with sharpened steel. His hands are already callused from his years at swordwork and despite practicing in an open courtyard everyday, his skin only as a light tan to it. The pox scars continue to appear across his chest and back but not nearly as bad on his face. Clear blue eyes, hard and cold as ice, draw the gaze of those that look at him and stare back with the judging intensity of a hunting hawk.

For the past seventeen years, he's wore the colors of his mother's family, house Schomeck, black and yellow and his mother's sigil of a leaping doe. However, now that his is age, he will now be allowed to wear the colors of House Kaysser, blue and white and his own sigil of a snarling hound. His regular cloth consists of white linen braies (basically shorts that come down to his knees) and shirt, with a doublet and chausses. leather boots, with sword and dagger belted over his doublet complete the outfit.

When riding into battle, he wears a mail shirt, a brigandine, cuisses (mail leggings), leather and mail gauntlets, mail coif and a visorless sallet style helmet.

Garnette MacChruim

Played By: Wicked Emi

Name: Garnette MacChruim

Age: 19

Rank: The highest rank in fighting the sisterhood has, however, she is also the lowest rank in bedchamber needs.

Personality: Garnette is not a loving type, if you want a mother figure, do not look towards her. Not only that, but she doesn't really believe in love. She doesn't like romantic stuff, and she doesn't like being naked around people. Especially people who wish to do certain things to her. Fighting and keeping the prince alive, while training him for everything she can, is the only thing on her mind. She is hard and stiff, and has been told by many that she is cold and uncaring. However, she does care in her own way.

Outside of her lack of romance, Garnette is extremely loyal. Especially to her prince, as long as he treats her well enough, she will do anything and everything for him. Garnette does have a few weak spots; such as children, animals, and oddly sweets. The best way to get her into a good mood, and get off her list of people she hates, is to give her sweets.

Backstory: Like many of the girls, Garnette comes from a higher up family. However, she is from a foreign family. Thus, she always felt like she never fit in since she joined the sisterhood at 7. Made worse when both her parents died, Garnette is an orphan to the sisterhood now. Growing up in the sisterhood, she focused on battle. Quickly learning her way around almost every weapon, mainly picking up battle daggers and the bow, Garnette was easily going up the rank for fighting.

Soon she was seen as the best the sisterhood could offer. Being the best in combat, strategy, even normal studies. Then came the...other studies. Which she not only completely failed at, she has many scars up and down her body from her down right refusal to participate. As she came closer and closer to aging out, Garnette refused even more. Claiming she would just become a teacher and wouldn't need to study such things as Garnette is by far more a fighter than a lover.

Arts Studied: Garnette focused on the study of weapons. Every weapon for that fact. From axes, to duel welding, to spears; Garnette happily spent her days learning each weapon and mastering the daggers and bow. Not only did she learn the weapons, she learned how to make them as well. Becoming one of the first female blacksmiths. She also studied medicine, poisons, and how to cook just about anything into something edible. Lastly, she spent the rest of her time in strategy and stealth. From understanding people's habit to war paint, one would hope to not be on the end of Garnette's daggers.

Best Skills: Archery, daggers, stealth, strategy, and medicine. Garnette fully believes a real warrior should not only have the ability to handle themselves in the battle, but also treat any wounds they may get from battle. Making her, at best, a battle nurse. Fighting is first and foremost, however, she can tell you what is edible and what can be turned into medicine.

Weapon(s): Garnette is VERY keen on her two daggers that she keeps on her hips at all time. Also, she has the best marksman skills the sisterhood has seen in years. Easily hitting an apple from over 100 feet. While she can pick up anything and fight, she prefers the stealthy approach and relies on her daggers and bow skills.

Appearance: Garnette is a taller lean girl. Standing at five feet and eight inches, Garnette is on the taller side for being a female. Her body is also lean, long legs and arm for climbing and her choice of weapon, while her bust is not lacking. While she wraps them so they appear smaller, her breasts are easily a handful, maybe even a bit more.

She has long pale blonde hair that almost seems white and usually has a few small braids that has color strings mixed in. Her face is on the smaller side, with a small dainty nose and fuller lips, many find Garnette attractive. Though tell her so will earn a spot on her hate list. She does have deep hazel eyes with flecks of green, which will shine purely green in day light while hazel and honey like in darker atmospheres. When fighting, she will pull her hair back and make one giant braid. Coming from foreign lands, she does have some odd appearance things. Such as, she constantly has dots and lines on her face. Not only to show off her rank, but to also show she is a warrior and would prefer to keep it that way.

When in combat, don't expect to really see Garnette as she is usually in the shadows or in the trees. If you do see her, she is wrapped in thick brown leather that can hide her in most tree's and wooded area's. However, if she is in plains or out in the open, she will pick up duel swords and use her limberness to out fight you.

Adira Rotavele

Played By: sitquietly

Name
Adira Rotavele

Age: (16-20)
17

Rank:
Mid ranks in the Sisterhood. Adequate in the arts of fighting, while still learning from the higher ranks in the arts of the royal bedroom.

Personality:
Adira is fiercely loyal, but stubborn to a fault, with a bit of a tongue. Growing as a child to know what her future would hold, she often sought answers as to why she would be asked to do such things. But as time grew, her questions fell on deaf ears and she learned to keep her questions and arguments to herself for the sake and safety of her family. Adira grew to know the love of a mother, father, 2 brothers and one younger sister, which was near unheard of in these times given the state of the lands in which they resided. As such, knowing this love, she is protective over those she loves, knowing her duty and fulfilling it to protect said loved ones. This protective trait and nature serves to be of use to the sisterhood.

Backstory:
As mentioned, Adira grew in a household of a full and complete family. Being servants to their rulers, and loyal, has helped them to keep each other close and together. And though she was not born of nobility, her families servitude to the crowned family, no matter how many times that crown may change hands, has kept them in good standing. Now that rank and future of her families standing rests on her shoulders with her duties in the sisterhood.

Adira entered the sisterhood at a young age, though hesitant at first, finding the duties asked of the women to be medieval in nature. Through years of training however, she learned that she alone could keep her family safe by in turn keeping the nobility to whom she was assigned safe, and happy, in more ways than one.

Having been raised in a household with a strong father and brothers, Adira, her mother and sister, were not known to be physically strong. Mainly tending to the duties of the house as one would expect any common female to do. That would change however upon entering into the sisterhood. She struggled at first to hone skills and learn the art of fighting, but remained determined trial after trial. This too would set an example for her younger sister who would eventually follow in her footsteps, regretfully so.

Adira did well to head and listen to the lessons set forth to her in the bedroom arts, though lessons would only take her so far. Each lesson ended with unspoken words of unknowing. No one knew exactly what would come of those unspoken moments in the chambers of the nobility, and as such, nothing could quite fully prepare her. She would have to rely on instinct and her natural charms to excel in these arts.

Arts Studied:
Being of a somewhat modest upbringing, Adira was moderately educated. Enough to get her through her early years in life, though one art she did take a liking too was that of music. Being a somewhat talented Musician, Adira enjoys entertaining others in the Sisterhood with one of the few personal possessions she brought with her, a violin handed down from her Father.

Best Skills:
Adira's best skills would have to lie in her musical ability. Though she would be described as moderately adequate, neither failing nor excelling in any specific skill set.

Weapon(s):
Adira shows no promise in any specific weapon, though prefers the bow. She is not much for the front lines of a fight and would rather choose long distance than close range and in the bloody line of a sword swing.

Appearance:

Adira neither towers, nor shrinks in appearance, standing at an average five feet seven inches. She is not rail thin, nor heavy built like some of the sisters who train on the grounds, merely average with the hint of definition that continues as she so continues her training in the Sisterhood.
Her skin is light and milky, standing in contrast to the dark hair that rests atop her head. Her dark hair however is often pulled back and high atop her head to keep it away from her face. This style gives way to her most striking feature, her eyes. Topaz in color, she shares this coloring with the rest of her family.
Adira has the uncanny ability to use her eyes to her advantage, for when staring into them, its as if she is staring back and looking deep into your soul where your darkest and most unspeakable secrets dwell.
Her hands are calloused from the long hours and lessons, doing work she had not done prior when residing with her family, though she is promised these would give way to scars, a mark of hard work and loyalty to the craft.
Besides her eyes, Adira does have one final defining feature. Though this she was not born with, but was more recently given. A long scar reaching from her left shoulder, across her back and ending at her lower rib cage on her right side.  This scar is the mark of a broad sword that had been wielded by another in the Sisterhood on the training grounds. Early in her training, Adira was naive, and the lesson that ensued with her fellow sister took a wrong turn when she fell just as her opponent brought her sword down. Seeing the blade come down, and in a last attempt to save her own life, Adira pressed her front side to the sand below as the blade made contact with her back.

Sheila

Played By: Miroque
Sheila
Age: 16

Rank: Foreign slavegirl. Sisterhood dislikes outsiders, so she's of hte lowest rank.

Personality: Sheila is submissive toward anyone and fears punishment. She will try ot excell in any task given to her.

Backstory: Sheila was not born in the Kingdom. Her parents were killed in faraway lands in the east and she was taken from the cradle, by the mens of the King as bounty. Kingsmen gave her to the Sisterhood, as tax of their services on the warparty. That was her origin story. Now, years later Sheila is given to Prince, to do as he pleases. Sheila knowns that the other sisters in Princes household will report of her actions and they have command over her, when it comes to Sisterhood business.

As she was given to Prince in person, as he got to an Age. Sheila fears that her modesty will not last for long. Other sisters have hazed her for it years, while she was made to be their servant and maid in the chapterhouse.

Arts Studied: Literature, Painting and Drawing, Dancing and Etiquette.

Best Skills: Physical pleasure arts.

Weapon(s): No weaponskills were ever taught to Sheila, but she knows her way around daggers.

Appearance: Five feet and slim dancers body makes her nearly alien to the germanic stock  of the local woman. Her much darker skin and reddish-brown hair, with her green eyes truely fullfill the exotic look. Older sisters tend to mock her and dress her up into dresses not even carneval whores would wear, things that reveal almost everything and they keep calling her heretic slut, when ever they force her to do something disgusting.

LLyra Whitebirch

Played By:
jeflint
Name LLyra Whitebirch

Age: 16

Rank: Slave

Personality: Servant, Healer, Submissive, Pet

Backstory: LLyra’s story started on a distant and small island that had little contact with the outside world. Her tribe encountered a merchant vessel and unaware of the nature of man welcomed the sailors into their home. This was a bad idea since seeing how the people had no real means of defending themselves they slaughtered the men and took the women and children. LLyra was born on the journey to the new world and as the other children died or were dying she managed to survive. Her mother did not survive the journey. The sailors were left with a hold of pelts and dead creatures. The plan to sell them on market was lost when all of them had died. LLyra alone was the only one to be sold.

She was sold to the guild as at a reasonable price because they had the resources to take care of the young and strange creature. LLyra was brought up as a scullery maid and made to run errands and other demeaning tasks. The young kit never complained and actually did not speak much even when spoken too. Taking a naturally submissive role to those around her even when her role would be higher than those of new slaves she gravitated towards the bottom. Her excellent sense of smell allowed her to begin training in the arts of cooking.

Her training branched out into the arts to heal and she took to this very well. Her large sharp ears able to detect much that was wrong with a person and her sense of smell finding problems with the person in question. It came to the attention of the higher ups that LLyra’s sense of hearing was very sharp and she could pick up conversations that should have been beyond the scope of a normal human to hear. And so covertly she was trained to listen and report to her higher ups on the comings and goings. They attempted to teach her to fight but between hands not made to grasp a weapon, small weak limbs and a pacifistic nature they gave up.

LLyra was trained in her arts and then given to the prince as a gift to handle the needs of his kitchen and assuring he was not poisoned. And because the servants always talked she was told to report directly to her superiors if she heard anything.

Arts Studied: Herbalism, Medicine, Cooking, Stealth, Toxicology

Best Skills: Medicine

Weapon(s): Being a chef and a herbalist LLyra has developed an ability to poison, though she finds it distasteful.

Appearance: LLyra is not human and that can be told by just the simplest of glances. She stands at a petite four feet tall and is covered head to toe in thick brown and white fur. Atop her head are two very large ears that can turn in most any direction. Her back ends in a tail almost as long as she is tall. Her eyes are miss matched with one being blue the other being yellow. She frequently adorns her ears with earings and clips that link them together. She wears the collar of a pet and the bindings of a slave on her wrists and ankles.

Weapon(s):

(Please forgive me, I for the life of me cannot get my image into the CS.. I've been away from the forums a bit too long lol)

sitquietly, Adira Rotavele looks awesome.

Miro, Sheila looks like she's got a good start. Her backstory needs a slight edit. Until his birthday, the Sisiterhood wouldn't have anything to do with the Prince, so they wouldn't have sent one of their own to be in his household (as he hasn't had one).  If you wanted to, you could change her history to having spent most of her time, acting as a maid and this is the first time she's left the Chapterhouse.

Awesome!! I'm excited, this seems like the perfect Roleplay for me to get back into the swing of things after 6 years.

Question: does the female char have to be interested in the "Prince" or can it be strictly professional or even hostile like she doesnt want to be there and feels forced into it (but plays by the rules)

Miroque

@Snake: Atleast Sheila fears Prince and is forced to be there..

No, she doesn't have to be interested in the Prince and yes, she can be unwilling to be there. Not only are young women from Ahremberg but their are plenty of foreigners in the Sisterhood.  Either slaves the guild has bought and trained or young women from defeated nations, who were given up as tribute.

Snake

I have another question: How about one that was an assassin sent in to destroy another prince but was caught by the sisterhood and agreed to join them in exchange for their life?

IrishWolf

Now there is an interesting possibility and a skill a Prince would need.

That said, in the case of the other, unwilling companions, the Sisterhood is basically holding their families hostage, in order to keep the companions loyal to their Prince. Do the job and do it correctly or we will go out and kill everyone your related to. Would there be anything the Guild could hold over the assassin, other then just her life?

I'm going with human dominate (at least where the story will take place) but I'm willing to accept other strange beings, either from far off lands or who live in isolated areas within human territories.

I would love to play a furry if I could.
