I know the Basic Fantasy site has a simple map generator, but I don't know how useful it would be for our purposes.   :(
Maybe ONE image, and then we could use something like chess notation...

Algebraic is good...letters on one axis, numbers on the other, and we can track the entire path of travel to doublecheck little things like (say) shifts through bad going or everybody ending up in the same square by accident.

Plus the smart-alecks can add the occasional '!' or '?' to a given move as running commentary (which would have come up in my tabletop group session last night.  Ocre jellies are a pain in the rump).

Oh, yes, that's a very good idea. I can use my lovely Fire Emblem sprites for a starting map, then the code system for any future moves etc. Excellent.

Looks like that's almost all the characters in, so we should be starting fairly soon.

Non-combat stuff will of course be done via the boards--I'll get thread(s) up Soon as well.

For combat, the best option would be to use a program like OpenRPG. Unfortunately, this seems like it can't work out. As an alternative, at the beginning I will post a reference map of the area with the starting positions of the creatures the PCs are aware of ( :P). Then, we will use a coordinate system like is used in chess. Each column will have a letter, each row a number. This way, position can easily be expressed without having to update the map image--should be easy to look back and know where everything is. I can keep a running note of where everyone is in the same post as the reference map, if that would be easier. I would love to be able to run this real-time, via an instant message program or IRC (neither of which requires installing anything  :P) but I am not certain if everyone's schedule would allow---play-by-post might, unfortunately, be required. I hope that doesn't turn anyone off.


I suppose I should probably post an example of the reference system I'm talking about.  >.>

Mrr. I'm not sure I can run 4e in a forum-based format, really... I'd muchly prefer to go real-time. I know there could be scheduling issues, but...:/
