I wondered if there would be an interest in a game based upon the recent Kong film.

I'm not sure if it should be in the King Kong universe itself, but I do like the basic set-up of the latest film:
A group of scientists and their military escort going to explore a previously uncharted island and finding themselves attacked by its local, monstrous wildlife.

I don't really have any truly worked out ideas beyond that basic concept, but I would like to hear your thoughts and possibly brainstorm together to further flesh out the concept.

Character sheet template

Name:
Age:
Role: (the people on the mission will roughly fall apart in three groups: scientists, their military escort and possibly a handful of third parties that tagged along, e.g. a photo reporter like in the movie. If you pick a character that would fall into this third category I would ask you to make a good argument as to why they would be allowed to come along)
Background: (A short background of your character. At the very least give us the information pertinent to them ending up as part of the mission team, but preferably expand beyond that and add a more general biography)

I will use the same year as in "Kong: Skull Island" for our setting. Thus this game will be set in 1973. Write your character sheet accordingly.
The troops will belong to a regiment of the 1st Cavalry division that had been fighting in Vietnam before being reassigned to this "babysitting mission".

My character:

Name: Louise Stephens
Age: 26
Role: A botanist, a member of the scientific survey team. Louise holds a Master’s degree in Botany but her joining the mission to Skull Island is part of her postgraduate trajectory towards her doctorate.
Background: Louise Stephens was born in San Francisco in 1947. She was the oldest child of Bert Stephens, a returning infantryman who had fought with distinction in World War II and subsequently went into a banking career and Melissa ‘Missy’ Fueller, a schoolteacher who chose to keep her job even after getting married. Louise has two younger siblings, a brother Robert whom everyone knows as Bobby Stephens and a sister Meredith. From a very early age, Louise was a good student, getting terrific grades in primary school and perpetually on the Honor Roll once she was in high school. She was also a rather good and obedient young woman, though she did go through a rebellious phase in the late 1960s. Though she was never a full-on flower child, she was an active participant in the anti-war movement and she had her fair share of fun during the Summer of Love. She did never lose track of her own ambitions though. She had chosen botany as a major at UCLA, mostly because of a lifelong love for nature, plants and gardening, though her field went far beyond such simple notions. After graduating with a Masters, she hardly surprised her parents when she stated her intention of going for a Doctorate. It was through her doctorate sponsor that she was told of the mission to an uncharted island. There had been a recruitment among younger academics to go do field work, essentially indexing the various plant- and animal-life they would find on this isolated island. The prospect of studying an ecosystem that had possibly remained untouched for many millennia was too good to pass up and to her surprise and excitement, Louise was selected as a member of the scientific team.

Colour me interested, either as a scientist or soldier, female mid 20's, I will elaborate on her depending on the needs of the game, if it comes to it.

RedEve

Great!

I actually like the idea of using the period that the movie is set in too. So not present time, but the 1970s.

works for me, plenty of interesting 70's fashion

RedEve

Do you have a preference as to whether or not Kong is a part of the game or not?
I am sort of leaning towards a Skull Island that is just brimming with dangerous and hostile wildlife, but not necessarily a giant monstrous monkey.

I'm game! Would love to play the captain or tracker. He would have an interesting backstory.

That is fine.

I am leaning towards a scientist for my character, either a botanist or a biologist.

If we are to have the big monkey, I will make sure my character is not a blonde.

Although there is a lot to be said for xxlarge but not mega sized animals, as the danger.

Yeah, plus I think that having Kong as part of the plot would swallow up much of the rest of the danger.

True...and those giant lizard things.

How did you see sexual elements occurring  in this?

True...and those giant lizard things.

Big lizards but not 'The Big Lizard' aka Godzilla.

I actually have a huge concept for a game of this sort, but it involves the bulk of the Godzilla/general Kaiju pantheon. Basically, the monsters are quarantined on the island and the reason for any human incursion is variable. But the monsters that are land and/or water-based can't get past these giant bioelectric amoebas surrounding the island, and as for the monsters who can fly, there are artificial weather machines that make it impossible for them to go too far without getting too cold and having to turn back, or getting lost in fog and not able to find their way away.

So if by chance a human ship or plane goes down there and a rescue mission is needed, or if the game revolves around just the people on the downed craft, that works with this setup, if you wanted to use it.
Considering a permanent retirement from Elliquiy, but you can find me on Blue Moon (under the same username).

I think the struggle for survival would be the main focus of the game, but within the high-stress situation, I can see some team members pair up and knock boots to relieve some stress and find some comfort with each other.

Thanks, but I think I wouldn't want to go too big in terms of the monsters. I actually like something slightly more modest.
Perhaps "The Lost World" might be a better equivalent for this idea, only with fictional monsters instead of dinosaurs.

I have updated the opening post with a character sheet template. If you are up for it, feel free to start sending me your character concepts. Thanks!

I have added my own character's sheet as an example.

Dinosaur, Technically speaking. :P

I did enjoy Skull Island, though I was curious as they went against the Monarch Origin Story in the Prequel Comic that was released with Godzilla. It showed in the Comic that Monarch had found quite a few "Monsters" while under the command of General MacArthur.

RedEve

No other character sheets have been submitted, so I guess the interest in this is pretty limited after all.

Out of curiosity, if I were to use the premise I had offered up a few posts ago, would you or anyone else in here be interested in trying that out with me?
