And I'm back! I won't be taking over the current applications - my team is doing an excellent job of it, and since they're already balls-deep, I'll let them finish up - I just have two things to say:

1) When my team gives you the go ahead, write up a full, exhaustive account of their powers. Weaknesses, limits, what it can do, what it can't do, etc. I will then do the final review and approval. :-)

2) Bern: We already have a Shapechanger in the works, so at the moment, that would probably be a no. Just stick to the Evil Eye for now; I like that idea :P

Now, I KNOW this process is long, guys, I do. I know it's intimidating. But there IS a reason for it - which I'll tell you later, after you've gotten through it - and we're not doing it just to be obtuse. :-) I promise.
Well, maybe a little. ;) :P

@Zhu

Sorry buddy, more questions. :P
1)   How does this wall operate in regards to you? If someone crashes into the wall will he be pushed back since he can topple it on people? Does it become focal to him, so for instance if he puts it on his right it’s always on his right? Or is it now anchored in a spot and he can then withdraw from that spot letting the wall provide limited cover.
2)   Is the force field visible? I’m sorta getting the impression no but thought I would ask
3)   How long does it take you to refresh your FF? Is it instanenous or does it take a bit of time? I can see it poofing back into existence after shattering as being pretty potent but having it take 1 minute when you’re character is at max rank/training being too long.
4)   You mention throwing it, how far can it be thrown? Does it interact to wind resistance or friction or anything? What’s to stop you from throwing it about a foot in front of you? Is your force field really acted upon by your strength or is it the mind that’s moving it?
5)   Since it won’t let air in, will it also keep back the heavier things like water or a gas for instance?

No problem, questions help complete things. :)

Actually some of this is stuff my spouse asked me too, he's a big superhero fan and was diving into the possibles, lol.

1) So, this I am thinking is dependent on how he concentrates to control it.
   a) It is much easier to say, originate the wall on the ground in front of him. Much less having to concentrate on moving it with his body. This is where he'd get the option of toppling it; here I would say he's body would be less likely to be pushed back unless they can break his concentration enough for his wall to not be as strong.
It would also give him the option to withdraw, but to keep it going, he'd be spending some brainpower keeping it going while retreating. Also, once it is out of sight, out of mind. Though I am considering giving it a 'distance' in the case of like in a building, I mean as he gets better, not right off the bat. So possibly 'sight or 50 feet, whichever is further' type thing, maybe it increases to 50 yards with enough practice (only for after making, cannot make outside of sight line). Either way, the timing is the important thing, also, everything beyond 'make and sustain for 1/2/3 minutes' is as he becomes more and more skilled.

   b) It is more straining to originate it on a part of his body, as he has to be aware of his movements. This is where I would say he'd get the use of it shifting with his body if he turns, but again a little more straining. This is where he'd be more likely to use it to push others back, since it isn't a static/fixed on a non-moving point. This would also be sort of the same concept as how he would use the buckler, but not as easy since it is more spread out and does hamper his movements.

2) Force Field would not be visible except a very light shimmer that ripples around the sight of impact. Up to discussing if characters with certain vision or mental abilities can kind of 'see' it or not.

3) This I was going over with spouse. I'd say the only thing instantaneous is when it pops up just to be a quick first defense, like the first initial thing that surprises him. (I.E. something flying at him, the car example, ect. Where he sees the thing too late to jump out of the way, but his brain can go 'oh shit that would hurt' and it pops up, protects, and gone.)
I would not say his force field would be an instant up otherwise, especially not if he's been using it. Here is where it would depend on what he did and how his head is. Lets say mid-battle, using the buckler, he uses it and makes it to cover seeing an ally needs the wall, it depends on how strained his mind would feel. Dizziness and headaches would make it take a few seconds to focus on setting the wall, and on an ally it can only be set to a non-moving source. If he's got a migraine or bloody nose/eyes/ears, it could take longer to set up the wall, since it is so hard to bring the mind to holding the force field. The thing I would say that over all prevents the shielding is being unconscious. If he's fine, no real headache or anything, it could be close to instant, but again, how fast is based on his mind. If he's getting hit repeatedly, it is distracting and unnerving, which would definitely slow his response of bringing up a force field.

4) Throwing the buckler. I would say it is based on his mind, not strength as it is less like a physical object. So I would suppose in a sense, he could throw it without having to 'throw' with his arm. I would look back at my thought on elements for how wind resistance would work on it. Probably, overall, wind itself wouldn't have much effect, possibly slowing it down a little, but the buckler being smaller and condensed with no weight to it, there really isn't anything for the wind to catch to slow it down really. Friction is different, as friction is more of a force rubbing against something. So, I would say friction would slow its traveling a little, since it would be a force that would transfer through the force fields form, but unless it is a strong enough force, it wouldn't stop or break the force field. The buckler isn't likely to be thrown only a foot, since it is most productive on his arm.
With his wall, he's not likely to throw it, that would be more likely for him to just originate it on a spot. The thing determining where he originates it is mostly sight and concentration. If he can see half a foot, a foot, or five feet in front of him, I figure that is the range until he can learn to control it better and gets more skilled at distance.

5) With the air thing, if he is focusing hard enough to make it air tight, I would say it can be a defense again gases, but I lean towards no with water. Spouse had asked me in the sphere could be used underwater, and I think that would be too much force and pressure. Rain, maybe if it is a light rain or sprinkle, but a downpour is a no. A gas may be suffocating or smelly, but gas doesn't really have to much in the way of force. Now say it is a gas that someone can set explode, it doesn't really matter if he can block out the gas, the explosion would definitely break through the sphere. Not to mention rattle him and make it hard for him to do anything more, especially if there is enough force that he's wounded after the force field breaks.

It is a long process, but hey, how else do you make sure many characters are unique and within the limits (low and high)?

Though I do feel there is a certain joy for you guys in making someone think so hard, lol.

@Elf

Holy snikes, A half ton lifting capacity? That sounds like it’s in the realm of superhuman/enhanced strength that Nadra is in. AND jumping a two story building? What’s your thinking behind this ability and please for my benefit without mentioning the animal that’s powering him. **clasps hands together.**

The purpose is supposed to be lower powered super heroes. For example Crossbones in Marvel Comics can lift near 800 lbs and he’s considered Peak Human. Colossus in normal form can lift 550lbs. According to Marvel anything with the ability to lift 800+ is considered Superhuman. Captain America, early, is assumed to be slightly stronger than you character at 1,200. Now he can lift significantly more.

The vision and scents I’m fine with. But this peak level of physical excellent treads very close to another character or might completely blow her outta the water. And I know that we’re trying our best to not have characters step on each other’s toys.

I thought this game was about creating low level superheros.

As for the ability to jump a two story building, how high did you think 3x his height would be? Let's say he's 6' tall 3x would 18', just about roof level of a flat roofed two story building.

Quote from: Vergil Tanner on May 10, 2017, 10:26:26 AM
Now, I don't have an issue with Angellic or Demonic-based powers, buuuuut since the powerscale of this game is pretty low - think more "Daredevil" and "Jessica Jones" level, rather than Magneto and Apocalypse

"Jessica Jones" is considerably more powerful than what I'm suggesting.

As for overlapping with the other character then any character that has trained to be near peak, through athletics or martial arts, should also be excluded for the same reason.

Vergil and I talk about the scope of the characters we want and the problem is we're aiming for a street level campaign but the street level descriptors
1) Spiderman - He's not really street level anymore
2) Batman - Not really Street Level
3) Iron Fist - Not really street level
so on and so forth. Outside of Punisher, Maybe Moon Knight, Nightwing or Robin it's hard to point at established comics and say these characters. Because in recent years the power creep is pretty high. But origionally Daredevil and Iron Fist were great examples

If this was mutants and masterminds I'd say here's the point spread. If this was shadowrun I'd tell you the point spread for the campgain. I apologize if this is a process is a bit cumbersome. As the Comic Geek i stopped caring about comics probably about the time Boss was born. I lived through the dark age of comics. So I recall when the X-men didn't have a person who was capable of stopping the planet and throwing all but 3 people off the earth.

Basically Nadra is our captain America. Her power is to have Peak Human Capabilities in speed, strenght, relfexes and endurance despite having a body that isn't that type of body. So your character having the same abilities makes it so the images are blurry.

When I first showed up I suggested to being Task Master but his photo relfexes were very similar to Dante's abilities and I had to rethink it. The process is a bit cumbersome and I'm working with the other admin staff to make things easier and less confusing. Right now we're working on a new character sheet to alleviate a bit of confusion we've had in the past.

I would love to hear any suggestions you have to help make this process easier.

But that said, the fact you have the powers of... you know... you remind me very much of The Creeper from Batman. Minus the gaze and the crazy laugh.

What about this character do you find most appealing? What in this build is driving you forward? We're not saying you can't play a character like this we're just trying to ensure no one steps on anyone's toes, we all have fun and we have interesting characters.

Just posting here to let you all know that I'm still writing the full bio, and I'm sorry if it's taking a bit to come out--I have the general idea of how Alexandra's history works and shapes her personality, but filling it in with enough details takes more time. Don't want you to think I've abandoned you. :)

@jeflint-currently waiting on your reply of Taylor's character, and I'm gonna stick with Evil Eye, though I'd like to expand on what it does. I'd like it to cause people to hallucinate primal Fears, like their gun bursting in flame, or a snake rapping around their knife hand. I'd also like to replace Taylor's ability to see adrenaline with the ability to hear heartbeats, and the stress thought of those who are stressed out.

Zhu Que

Just checking.  Anymore questions, or should I fix the write-out of the power now?

jeflint

@bern

Ok... manifesting their primal fear if stared at long enough could probably be doable but the update to be able to read stress thoughts and hear heartbeats would have to be really defined for something that his "eyes" do. Because that to me doesn't seem like an ability that you'd get just looking at someone. Now if you're entire kit was inducing fear that would be different. You'd just be a supernatural version of Scarecrow.

I would need to see this written up to see how that would work but I'm leaning towards the evil eye can't hear heartbeats or hear stressed thoughts. It doesn't seem to correlate with inducing stress through looking at people.

@Zhu

Ok, so I was reminded that the process should focus on what the character can do at day one and then at mastery of their power. So we should really focus on what your character can do. I feel some of my questions have been leading us off that path. What I would like you to do is to write up everything we've talked about so that I can review it in one chunk and then go on from there.

@Neural

Take your time. That's a lot of feedback to write up and post here so I can understand.

If I've missed anyone please let me know.

Is being the supernatural version of Scarecrow okay? I doubt there are gonna be any other "terror heroes", so I'd like to fill the niche. If that's possible, I'd like to rename his power "See All Fear, Hear All Fear, Speak All Fear". His eyes would cause people to hallucinate primal fears, his ears could hear fearful thoughts, and he could speak terrible voices with his tongue. These abilities would become more powerful, the more afraid someone became.

This doesn't sound like the type of power for a hero but this would certainly be very unique power to have.

We would need to write this up like you did fear eye and see how it comes about.

My first thought is again going to folks like Cass and Dante and Police officers who are better at emotion control would this be as effective on them.

And it's unique because Sasha's biggest fear is her power. So what's that going to do to Sasha who's terrified of shrinking into non existence or being crushed... or eaten by something.

I personally have phobias and they're NOT pleasant and in my case they really do impact a large part of my life so we'd have to be careful that this doesn't impact the characters too much.

Bernardo Hoagie

My character would want to end fights before they begin. With fear and intimidation, there's a good chance that fights will end without any violence occurring. Especially if he can get the crooks to drop their guns by making people think there are snakes or centipedes crawling on or in their guns, and make them cower in fear by making himself grow to gigantic proportions in their terrified perceptions. Taylor deals only with natural, primal fears, like snakes and fire, nothing specific. If he stumbles upon a phobia of a criminal, then that makes his job easier, but he can't go deep into your mind and pull out super-personal fears. As for his ability to read fearful thoughts, I think that's overpowered. How about he is instead able to echolocate using the pounding hearts of the terrified.

I just wanted to post what I do have so far, so that you guys can look over it. I am still working, but I think I need to go to the doctor about constant headaches and sharp pains around the uterus, just to make sure nothing is wrong with the growth of the baby. I will post what I have and keep working later once I've rested and can once again brush through the details for kinks.

Things we talked about
  • week in - one minute sustain
  • eventual 'body slam'
  • invisible
  • if damage is too much, force can transfer to his body
  • elements aren't affected by the force field so much
  • draw backs
  • After start, still instant reaction but can sustain with full concentration
  • possibly limited to speaking, simple thoughts and movements
  • first buckler use - half a minute
  • with practice  buckler up to couple minutes
  • eventually a sphere
  • not skin tight
  • possible air tight - only as long as he can concentrate with no distractions
  • buckler effectively makes him one-handed
  • no 'travel power'
  • throw buckler, no boomerang
  • possible wall 'brace' - very short time
  • work time vs concentration vs negatives
  • possible to catch someone falling
  • buckler 'deflects' force
  • wall and sphere 'stops'
  • wall is 'main' shape, buckler is condensed, spherical is stretched
  • spherical protect up to three when practised
  • wall 6' tall by 4' wide
  • can possibly 'bridge' with wall
  • FF can be instantaneous to first hit, no sustain
  • must concentraite to bring anything up for sustaining
  • 'toppling' wall, feels like someone a little bigger than him tackling someone
  • not air tight, no parachute
  • can make air tight, for short time and lots of concentration
  • no vacuum of space
  • wall originated on non-moving surface, can topple, less likely to be pushed back
  • wall originated on body, can be pushed back, can move defended area
  • possible retreat is originated on non-moving surface
  • possible 'out of sight, out of mind' poof it goes away
  • possible 'sight or fifty feet,' increase to 50 yards eventually
  • cannot make outside of sight line
  • up to discussing if characters with certain abilities can 'see'
  • no instant recharge
  • negative side effects change recharge rate (range from nearly instant to nearly minute)
  • thrown buckler not really slowed by wind resistance
  • buckler slowed some by friction
  • hard focus to make air tight to be useful against gases
  • spherical not useful against heavy rain or submersion

Force Field.

The force field is a manifestation of Eli’s mental fortitude used as protection from harm. In the start, he can create an instantaneous buckler ‘shield’ on reaction but not sustain. The force field is not visible, other than a shimmer that spreads out from the impact. As Eli learns to work with his power, he can start enlarging the size of his force field, though this does affect the defensive ability and concentration needed.

As Eli becomes more versed in his power and can do more, he can also protect others. In a full spherical field, he can protect up to three people. Once more in control, he can even use the force field at a distance, but only within sight. Again, the larger and farther he projects the field will dictate the defensiveness and control use.

Timing also changes as he becomes more practiced. It starts as an instantaneous interrupting or reactive protection. As Eli becomes more and more comfortable, he can sustain it for longer and longer times. Seconds become minutes, lasting for as long as he can concentrate on without being disrupted. As he learns to use the smaller, more condensed fields, he can do other things with them though shortening the time. (EX: If the Wall lasts five minutes while standing defense, spreading his concentration on a piece of equipment like searching his phone for a contact would lessen the time a third or so.)

Force Field Manifestations

Small Buckler
  • Stronger defense ability.
  • Quicker movements, running.
  • More control with less stress.
  • Best for escape or getting through a situation solo.
  • Can be thrown or used for body slams.
Height Wall
  • A wall his height, so pretty good defense ability.
  • Less movement, moderate walking.
  • Most balanced, moderate control with moderate stress.
  • Best for acting as a ‘distraction’ for others to move.
  • Ideal for dealing with a directed attack, can use for pushing back.
Spherical/Dome
  • Full self or small group protection.
  • No real movement, entirely for recouping.
  • Less direct defense, more all around protection.
  • Best for group change of plans in situations.
  • Ideal for dealing with non-physical attacks and helping allies.

Damage each can take is based upon how condensed or stretched the force field is. A small buckler can handle more direct damage than the dome, but the dome can protect from all angles and works better for non-physical attacks. If the example of bullets is used: the buckler can take a few bullets before dispersing but takes being able to keep up and move quick enough, the dome would be only able to deal with a single piercing bullet but covers a full area and requires no movement to do so. In this example of bullets, the wall is the middle ground; can take a couple bullets but more likely defense than the buckler because of size.

Negative Side Effects
  • Requires concentration, means Eli can be easily blind sided.
  • Headaches and migraines from trying too hard.
  • Dizziness or nausea following long or strenuous use.
  • Depending on damage to force field, bleeding nose, eyes, and/or ears.
  • If bad enough, can knock Eli unconscious.

I'm working on a growth chart, but I'm also trying to categorize things we talk about, you know into 'day one,' 'progress,' and 'mastered.' So I'm kinda trying to fix the snags in both the order of what we talked about, and snags in the 'growth stages.'

Growth chart I'm working on

Growth
Stage One
- Has an instant reactive 'wall' force field, no sustainability.
- Cannot create at will, only reactive.
-One minute cooldown before another wall can manifest.
- Suffers dizziness, nausea, and headaches.

Stage Two - Has some sustainability with strong focus, less than a minute.
Stage Three - Learns to condense into a 'buckler,' sustainability about a minute.
Stage Four - Can move with buckler, can multitask a little bit.
Stage Five - Can make wall stretch a little more than his size, sustainability about three minutes.
Stage Six - Can stretch wall into sphere/dome.
Stage Seven - Can sustain for up to five minutes depending on concentration.
Stage Eight - Can 'throw' buckler, 'body slam' with wall.
Stage Nine - Can protect three total with dome.
Stage Ten - Can raise force field at a distance.

I hope you guys are all coming along nicely! Once Jam and Pen give you the go ahead, I'll be looking at the final versions of your powers and picking at any loose threads I find...but hopefully, that won't happen. I know this process kinda sucks with how long it is, but I promise, it's worth it :P

Hey, I'm definitely interested. I have a few character concepts in mind; a male student and a female teacher. I'm leaning a little more towards the student at the moment, though.

Alec J. Marshall

Sex: Male

Position: Student

Archetype: A 'Jock' type. He's not actively malicious or a bully, but he largely ignores people who aren't into athletics. He's prideful, though, definitely holds a grudge/rivalry easily and for a long time, and thinks of roughhousing as normal due to how he was raised. He actively plays a team sport (thinking American Football) highly competitively, and probably got in due to his athletics rather than intelligence. He's not exactly dumb, but he prefers to take the simplest route, or brute force, and focuses a lot of his studies on sports theories and whatnot.

Power Theme: A rotating storm or mini-tornado focused around his center of body. Like a tornado, the wind will move around his body in a perfect circle, and never be present right next to him. It would always be centered around the exact center of his body - for example, if he extended his right arm, the center would go slightly to the right, and expand slightly. If he contracted his body, the storm's radius would decrease - extending his arms, radius increases. If he moves, it follows him. The winds never touch Alec himself, and always remain a set distance from Alec's body. The storm would work kind of like a mental merry-go-round. He can make wind spin around his body to the left or to the right. It would start weakly, and grow gradually stronger as he "spins" it in one direction. He could start spinning it in the other direction to slow it down. However, at a certain point, the storm would start to generate electricity. At this point, Alec could no longer manually try to slow it down, and would have to wait for it to eventually subside or keep on fueling it.

I am also potentially thinking about environmental effects. For example, a humid area may cause clouds to form in his storm faster, and the electric stage to come faster.
The devil in detail is in the details.

Vergil Tanner

Ok, so, with his power...what exactly can he DO with it? What's its use, and how do you see it working at Mastery Level? I need to know PRECISELY how this power works and what you want it to be able to do. Right now, the explanation is kind of...vague on what he can actually achieve with this ability. You say it "generates electricity." Ok...how? How much? How powerful is that electricity? What can he do with this electricity? Is this vortex "Always On," or Activated?

Okay. So all his power does is generate winds in a circle around him, spinning in one direction or another. It's activated in the sense that he starts "pushing" the wind in one direction or the other. When he keeps on pushing it in one direction, it generates electricity on contact, he loses control. At this point, I'd say it has maybe 30-50 volts of electricity, and the winds start getting clouds in them as it amasses liquid and speed. He can't fire lightning bolts or anything, it just shocks you on contact with the winds, which at this point would have visible clouds, and these winds are always in a fixed distance spinning around him.

I'd expect that the more he masters his power, the faster he can spin the winds in one direction or the other, and possibly increase the gap until he loses control or intentionally lose control to have the storm start generating electricity.
The devil in detail is in the details.

Vergil Tanner

Ok, but why does the spinning wind generate electricity? How fast does it have to go before it generates it? What can the wind actually DO? Is it powerful enough to repel people or objects trying to move closer to him? Is it powerful enough to pick things up? What are the limitations and costs? What can it do and what can't it do? How does this affect HIM? What does this power cost HIM? How long can he keep it going, and how long does it take to dissipate once it reaches the point where he can no longer manually slow it down?

That's where I'm not entirely sure, and where it needs fine-tuning for street level.

In regards of electricity, it's purely static. The more dust and water particles gather up in the winds, the more it would start to generate static electricity due to friction, so it would depend on the environment.

Disadvantage-wise, the winds would only conform to his physical body, so if he say, holds a stick out of his circle, it would affect it and drag him along with it. He would have to be careful with remaining inside with any objects he possesses. I'm thinking it maintains an area of three inches from his physical body at any time. He has to actively focus on one direction or the other to keep on "spinning" it, but it doesn't tire him out beyond concentration. What limits the duration he can keep this up is that the winds may form a vacuum, reducing oxygen / eliminating replenishment of oxygen inside of his circle, forcing him to stop elsewise suffocate.

In terms of functional wind, I'm thinking about the following. These are how long it takes if he actively pushes the wind in one direction. For it to naturally dissipate, it would take three times the time it takes actively pushing it; if he actively tries to stop it, it would take the same amount of time that it took to generate it. Vertically, the winds would reach about eight feet up, and grow a ~foot taller with each stage.

First 5 seconds - light breeze, perhaps about the level of a fan.
5-15 seconds - strong breeze, high powered fan. Could easily blow away light projectiles, such as paper airplanes.
15-25 seconds - very strong wind, like a particularly windy day. Could blow away decently weighted objects, such as books, that are thrown at him. If it's very humid, clouds may start to form with the wind, blocking visibility in and out of the circle.
25-40 seconds - physically debilitating winds. Heavy thrown objects and other items may be repulsed at this stage. Most regular humans will not be able to approach without being blown away. At this point, oxygen will stop replenishing, and depending on the size of the circle, he will have 60-80 seconds of oxygen, less if there are more people in the circle with him.
40-a minute - at this point, in most conditions, static electricity will begin and he will lose the ability to actively stop it. Very strong winds, potentially blow away lighter caliber bullets (?)
a minute+ - practically a mini-tornado.

He can maintain a stage once he reaches it. Mastery potentially may affect the times stated. The general idea is a fairly unique power that has quite a lot of brute power, but is extremely limited in range and use, and requires a fair bit of setup and potential versatility (such as, say, throwing sand into the storm around him.)
The devil in detail is in the details.

Vergil Tanner

Well, I would say maybe downgrade the time a little bit; a minute of concentration creates a tornado? And when you say "Mini Tornado," what are you talking about? How tall is it? How fast is it? There are different strengths of tornado, after all, so what's the biggest thing it can pick up or deflect? How does it affect the area immediately around it? How WIDE is it? Since obviously a tornado affects more than just the twister itself.

Besides, what you've given is fairly vague. I'd need rough windspeeds to properly calculate the power of the winds, and honestly...I'm struggling to see WHY you need electricity being generated at all. You have - as you say - a miniature tornado gusting around him, so why exactly do you need the electricity? How does the electricity factor into his power? How is it related, and why is it included? And if it is included, what kind of Voltage and Ampage are we talking about here? And why doesn't it arc back and connect to him as the closest thing it can get to Grounding?

Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by that of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion. Therefore it is unnecessary to have all the qualities I have enumerated, but it is very necessary to appear to have them. And I shall dare to say this also, that to have them and always observe them is injurious, and that to appear to have them is useful; to appear merciful, faithful, humane, religious, upright, and be so, but with a mind so framed that should you require not to be so, you may be able and know how to change to the opposite.

I haven't thought that much about the mechanical specifics, and I'm not sure what wind speeds would be good milestones. I have looked up speeds of winds in relation to people, but I'm not sure what would be reasonable.

Honestly, the electricity part was just a concept idea related to having a milestone where he lost the brakes on the merry-go-round. What you said makes a lot of sense about the design redundancy of it, so it's probably better off being removed;;

In terms of width, it would vary as Alec himself moves. It will always be a perfect circle, and be 3 inches away from Alec's skin on a horizontal plane at any point. So if Alec was standing still, arms to his side, it would have about a foot in radius. If he extended his arms, the width would increase drastically.

If you don't think the concept will work in the intended power level, I am fully willing to change it.

I'm also going to go to sleep fairly soon, so I may not be able to reply to your next post today, so you don't have to keep an eye on the thread. Thanks for the help in fleshing out the concept.
The devil in detail is in the details.

Vergil Tanner

I think the power could certainly work at this level, but you do need to consider the specifics of it; how tall is the Tornado, how large is the affected area (high speed winds NEVER just affect the area of the twister itself, there's always weaker-but-still-strong winds in a certain area around said tornado as well), how does it affect HIM, being in the Eye of the Storm, how fast are the winds - since Tornadoes do have variable speeds - how long it takes to shut down after he's lost manual control...basically, the concept can work at this power level fairly easily, but you will need to consider the specifics and mechanics of how and why it works. That way, we have a specific sheet of "This is what it can and can't do," and it stops questions coming up later that might stall the progress of the game. :P

Also, you'll have to consider weaknesses, limitations and what it costs him to activate this ability. :-)

GM Announcement

Ok, guys, so! Update! Due to some unforeseen circumstances, Jeflint and Penthewonderful aren't going to be around this weekend to continue your applications. Since this would obviously stall the process, we're changing plans. I will be taking over your applications, and hopefully doing a crash course on all of your abilities to properly balance them. Now, we do have a fair few players already in the game, so we are - for the moment - limiting it to a three person intake at a time, and if one of those three falls through, we'll go down the list to the next applicant we liked and so on, so forth. This isn't a comment on YOU as a player or your characters, it's just to make sure we aren't overwhelmed by new applicants. So we're gonna have to limit how many we take on at a time.

So what I need from you is ONE very important thing:

I need your Concept Bio that you submitted at the start, BUT I need you to give me - in the power section - a FULL write up of EXACTLY what your power can do. Limits, limitations, abilities, how it's activated, etc etc. Basically, give me an exhaustive, encyclopedic run down of exactly what your power does and how it does it. This should include everything discussed with Jeflint and Penthewonderful so far. I will then take over the applications, asking you questions, giving suggestions and requesting changes. This is just so that I know that I am working off of reliable data, otherwise I have to go through the last four pages seven times, making notes on everybodies powers. And even then, I might miss something. So...this is easier for everybody involved.

Please give me your complete, finalised pitch, and we shall start the final rundowns of your applications as soon as you submit them. :-)

Please and thank you!

Vergil

Weaknesses:
-Psychopaths are immune to See All Fear, and Low Fear/High Stress Resistant people have a higher threshold of tolerance.
-Power cannot penetrate through black/dark tinted substances.
-Unable to turn off See and Hear All Fear. Must wear black sunglasses/contacts, and ear plugs to nullify abilities.

Power: "See All Fear, Hear All Fear, Speak All Fear"
See All Fear- People within 50 feet of his line of sight hallucinate a Primal Fear of his choice, be it fire, snakes, wolves, etc. This power becomes more powerful the more afraid the target becomes.

- How many people at once? Only one at a time? Two? Three? What's the limit?
- How do they hallucinate? Is it EVERYBODY in his range hallucinating the same thing, or does each person hallucinate something different?
- How does this influence the efficacy of his power? Does the amount of people hallucinating weaken the strength of the hallucination?
- I assume he can't just read their minds to be able to tell what they fear, right? So if he picks snakes, and the person LOVES snakes, would they be FORCED to feel fear?
- You say "It gets more powerful the more afraid they are." What does that actually MEAN? HOW does it get more powerful?
- Define "Primal Fear." Does that mean that he can't make long words appear in front of a hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobic? Does this mean that even if he KNOWS that the person is afraid of jaffa cakes, he can't make a floating jaffa cake appear in front of them because it's not a "Primal Fear?"
- What happens if the person isn't AFRAID of what he's showing them, just justifiably cautious? EG, Dante isn't afraid of fire, he just treats it with the caution that it deserves.
- How does the hallucination behave if interacted with? Is it just a visual and auditory hallucination, or can you feel it with your hands as well? If it attacked you, would you feel the illusion of being hurt by it? EG, a Fear Wolf attacks and bites your wrist. Does it pass straight through, or latch on like a real wolf? Can it cause real damage or just the illusion of it?

Quote from: Bernardo Hoagie on September 01, 2017, 06:36:21 AMHear All Fear- Can hear the heartbeat of others within a radius of 100 feet. If it is dark, he can use the heartbeats to echolocate, like a bat.

Honestly, as phrased, I have no idea how this actually fits into his power theme. Why is "being able to echolocate via heartbeat" anything to do with causing hallucinations?

Quote from: Bernardo Hoagie on September 01, 2017, 06:36:21 AMSpeak All Fear- He can project a horrific growl from his throat, one that can disorient and stress out people due to its frequency.

Eeeeh...I can kinda see the connection, but this almost feels like you're trying to take two different powers. One is hallucination induced, and one is actually fucking with their heads via frequency. Would you mind going into more detail as to how this aspect of his power links in, and how it works?

Quote from: Bernardo Hoagie on September 01, 2017, 06:36:21 AMWeaknesses:
-Psychopaths are immune to See All Fear,

And Speak All Fear, I assume. What does "Immune" mean? Do they just not see the hallucination? So do you need to actually be scared of what he's making you see TO see it, or by immune do you just mean "they can see it, but they aren't scared of it?" Can he TELL if people are scared of it or not? Like, if they're pretending to be scared, can he tell that they aren't?

Quote from: Bernardo Hoagie on September 01, 2017, 06:36:21 AMand Low Fear/High Stress Resistant people have a higher threshold of tolerance.

How does that threshold work? It feels like this particular weakness was lifted from a different power without really altering it all that much. When you say "Higher threshold of tolerance," are you suggesting that the Hallucinations FORCE their viewers to be afraid? Like, it instills a supernatural sense of dread? Or do you just mean "If you don't scare easy, the hallucinations won't scare you as much?" Because if so...duh?

Quote from: Bernardo Hoagie on September 01, 2017, 06:36:21 AM-Power cannot penetrate through black/dark tinted substances.

Um...ok. Does this power rely on eye contact, then? If not, why would tinted glass have any effect?

Quote from: Bernardo Hoagie on September 01, 2017, 06:36:21 AM-See All Evil affects the user if reflected.

How is, basically, a line of sight cone reflected? Again, this reads like it relies on eye contact rather than just "Everybody within a certain range that I can see." Would you mind clarifying that one, please?

Elf

I apologize for not posting here for a few days. I have not lost interest. Jeflint's last question to me required serious thought and I had other things I had been neglecting.

So in response to the question of what about this character appeals to me.

Beyond the obvious of just wanting play out as someone/something I am not, I think playing Faidon would challenge my writing and help to become a better writer. He is a very interesting character with many different problems. He wants very much to be accepted for who he is, but his father's notoriety prevents that. He is not the monster others think him to be, then he gets these powers that could really make him a monster. I think that playing out these challenges would interesting, fun, and help to improve me as a writer and Rper.

Name: Faidon Storm
Sex: Male
Position: Student
Archetype: Loner, not by choice, social awkwardness, or lack of self-confidence. His father is a notorious killer for the TRIAD (Oriental crime syndicate) He was arrested and very publicly put on trial and convicted. The general populace see “Killer Storm” as a monster and believe that Faidon will be one too. For the most part people fear him. It does not help he got started in martial arts at a very young age and it is one of the few things he is really passionate about. He has seen this fear reaction too often so does not push his company on anyone. If meeting people for the first time he is very reluctant to reveal his full name.
Power Theme: Animal Affinity: He is very feline in nature and can channel his inner cat either the physical or the sensory abilities, maybe one he day he will learn to do both.

Here is a break down of how it will develop:

Stage 1: Lift 250lbs, his high jump increases by 50% and his long jump doubling. The pupils of his eyes will have a oval shape. Visual acuity 20/18. Low light vision will be 50% better. Odors will be more clear and defined, will be able to detect food items in close proximity. Sounds seem louder. He will be able to hear private, not whispered, conversations from across a room. No noticeable improvement to reflexes or reaction time.

Stage 2: Lift 500lbs. High and long jump twice that of previous stage. Pupils are noticeably oval. Visual acuity 20/15. Low light vision will be twice normal with the night seeming less dark. He will begin to identify individuals by scent and be able to track a fresh trail, Food items no longer have to be close. He will be able to hear the heart beats of those near him. A dog whistle will be painful. No noticeable improvement of reflexes or reaction time, but will land on all fours if falling from a height greater than 1 meter.

Stage 3: Lift 750lbs. Jumping distances doubling again. Pupils are clearly slits. Visual acuity 20/13. Nights are lighter yet and non-moving heat sources will have a barely visible glow. He will now  be able to tell if a person is seriously ill or basically healthy by scent and be able to fallow a trail several hours old. He will be able to a whisper from across a room as well as some ultrasonic sounds. The dog whistle will no longer cause pain. Still no noticeable improvement to reflexes and reaction time. Will land on all fours if falling from half a meter.

Stage 4: lift 1000lbs. He will able to jump to the roof of a two story building and jump from roof to roof even over streets with a running leap. Pupils are full feline slits. Visual acuity 20/10. Even the darkness night will be like twilight to and everything will seem to be bathed in a dim “Black Light” all heat sources, even living ones will have a dim glow to them. He will be able to follow scent trail about a day old and tell if a body is calm or frightened. He will be able to hear whispers beyond a closed door  along ultrasonic and infrasonic sounds. The will now be about a 25% improvement to reflexes and reaction time. Falling from any distance will have him landing on all fours.

Drawbacks:
Sight: Sudden bright light will daze and blind him. Flashing lights especially in different colors will confuse and disorientate him badly. He won't be activating his sight in a night club. At first he will not recognize the different things he sees in infrared or ultraviolet he will have to learn what these new things are.

Hearing: Loud noises will have much the same affect on him and his hearing as the light does on his eyes. He will also be more affected by auditory based powers, they will affect him quicker and hit him harder. It is also going to take him time to learn to filter out excess noise to hear just what he wants to hear. This is a skill not an innate ability.

Smell: Again especially strong aromas will cause him great discomfort and render the sense useless for a time. Also he will have to learn to filter the different scents. Again a skill not an innate ability. A major drawback though is any scent intended to cause a mental or physical response will affect him more. Nerve gas will no greater affect on him as the scent is how it works. Pheromones on the hand will. They cause both mind and body to react to the scent, for most humans this is entirely subconscious as they don't realize the scent is there. He can smell it and even if he does not know what it is, it is going to hit him both subconsciously and consciously. So a girl ovulating walks past him, his body and mind will almost instantly go into mating mode.

The physical: Increased strength will require a much higher caloric input. He will also have to be very careful not to use too much strength otherwise he could break things, hurt other people or even himself.

There will be two ways of triggering his power. The first would be an emotional response fear or anger would trigger the physical. Curiosity would trigger the senses. Both of these would be the uncontrolled triggers.

The controlled trigger would him focusing his chi and mentally calling forth his inner feline. Using his power too much would exhaust him both physically and mentally and could force him to have to recharge his chi. These are things he is going to have to learn to do.

I believe this about covers very thing that has developed until now.
