I have an odd question?

Do you think it's consistent of me to say I hate what porn addiction does to me, but I love ERP? Is it a case where you can't have one without the other? Is erotica different than porn?

I think it's all the same. But I thought addiction had to be something where you don't enjoy it and you just can't help yourself? Or does it matter what level of pleasure it brings as long as it's still a compulsion?

Something can be erotic without being pornographic.  The Dance of the Seven Veils is erotic, but Rita Hayworth's 1953 film Salome - featuring the dance - was rated PG in the UK (In the US, it was 'Approved' by the MPAA.)  Erotica is typified by suggesting, where pornography leaves nothing much to the imagination.

I do have a cause, though.  It's obscenity.  I'm for it.  - Tom Lehrer~*~All you need is your beautiful heart

I very much agree with what Oniya has said above. ~nodnod~

Writing erotica is quite different from pornography.

I think porn and ERP are two, distinct things.  As such, you can have one without the other.  To me, erotica is more teasing than porn.  Where, exactly, I would draw the line is difficult to say.  Penetration, perhaps, but I am sure there is more to it than that.

Thank you all the responses have been interesting.

But I actually was thinking penetration could also be erotic as well. Is it not special to be (and I hope no one thinks I am being silly saying this) "inside" another human being, in a way that only sex can provide?

If it's just two animals mating, there might be little significance. But maybe it is 'special' because you are inside and with someone you love?

The original reason though I asked the question is I struggle with porn addiction and I wonder if I give up porn addiction, do I need to give up ERP as well.  Thanks for the food for thought.
