Von Doom's idea of moving Power Control to its own category might be a good idea. Resistance to psychic attack and power control could be seen as two different things. My $.02.

Information Request

Heya Wisp! I kinda stole the interest declaration format for this, but since you had something like it for Pandemonium, I figured it can't hurt and my question is probably relevant for a good number of backgrounds:

How long has the current setup existed at the start of the game? Referring to the Iron Compound first and the Veteran/Rookie teams second.

I'm specifically interested in whether there was an appreciable amount of time in which characters have time to meet at the Compound and have prior adventures of their own outside the team/teaching dynamic.




And on a different note, is anyone interested in connected backgrounds? I've already spoken with Ama about keeping a comic-like relationship between X-23 and Gambit (mainly seen in Liu's X-23 series), but am happy to include more folks! Just need to keep the 'man of mystery' aspect, so he needs some solo periods.

(And I'll PM our fearless leader about a game-relevant replacement for Gambit's canon Dark Past™ once sending sheets in is opened up again.)

Getting through the character sheet, don't mind it much.  Can agree that maybe more specification could be used on the stats system but overall I think it's good.  Will be awaiting patches before submitting.

Also, I was planning on MC having a history of being found by someone in the crew either on a mission or something else.  Depending on Wispyr's answers about set-up, I'm free to work something like that out ^.^

I left out any mention of the Morlocks in my character sheet, so there's none of that messiness to deal with ;-)

I'm certainly including the Thieves and Assassin's Guild, yay for all the messiness! I very likely won't have the Mutant Massacre in Gambit's background, Kuroneko, which I suppose coincides well with a lack of Morlocks to ... well, massacre, if you're not including them.

Okay so... 8 years ago the Obsidian Throne became a thing. The X-Men were basically annihilated at that point in time. The Avenger's mission that resulted much the same happened about 6 months post that. Tony's attempt to recruit Rogue - the first person he sought out after building - was about 6 months after that. So the Iron Compound and the resistance has existed for about 7 years now. Reasonably speaking anyone could have been a part of it since then (Magneto ideally), but the resistance has gained as many people as it has lost in that time frame. So it's just as likely that anyone currently present is newer. The current set up of Vet + Rookie teams is something that would have happened someone in the last 4 years or so.

tl;dr in theory you have about 7 years to work with, but 4 years is more applicable for most everyone. Anywho who plans to use more than the 4 years should make sure to point that out to me at sheet submission so that I can give you a couple details.

As for the sharing of profiles and what not... Give me a bit to contemplate on it. Such massive discussion often scares off interested bodies who think they don't have a shot of getting in because they see stuff already in the works. But I'll come up with something so discussion can happen.

It makes sense for that to be in Remy's background.

After discussing it with Wispyr, the decision to leave the Morlocks out of Sarah's was more to keep from dictating choices/background to anyone else that might want to play a Morlock character than anything else. And since Sarah's reimagined, it doesn't have to be in her background.

Personally, I prefer to wait to post profiles until they're approved.

Just wanted to say I'm still here! Husk's backstory is going to be pretty simple -- so I'm not super concerned. I haven't submitted a sheet yet since we were asked to pause.

I am down for any connections people want to make! Once the sheets are actually up, I might initiate some of those myself.

After some thought and attention given to the problem of the "stats", I have determined that I'm going to leave things as they are. I am satisfied with the way that these work together. While an argument could be made for a 4th stat that seperates fine power control and raw power potential, this has the adverse effect of requiring "passive power" mutants to boost one stat, while "active power" mutants have two. I've considered an alternative where a control stat also affects those with passive style powers (such as regeneration), but have opted for the more simple path - that is leaving it as is.

While I understand that not having full scope of what numbers mean, I will ask only that those that are hesitant trust my judgement as a GM to make sounds calls in resolution for the purpose of progressing this games story. This "system" - if such a basic thing can even be called such - was created to prevent the wide spread abuse, and craziness that comes with this style of game that makes narrative difficult if not out right impossible. There is a large, red lettered, clause about the 'spirit' of a character and that remains true; more importantly, with that clause I feel that I have sufficiently addressed every issue that has been brought to my attention. As players you will never interact with those numbers again outside of putting them into the sheet - and with that in mind, the very basic rule of more = better should be sufficient for anyone.

For those that aren't satisfied with this, I apologize. If there is confusion about how to place stats, please by all means reach out to me. If your concern is that you feel like your character is "being scaled backwards" by these numbers, I would urge you to consider two things:

1) They probably have been, and that is intentional to prevent something like the 'Wolverine effect' as listed in the red clause.
2) Everyone has also been dialed back.

Further I would like to point out that these numbers are not a thing that you should assign arbitrary meaning too. You are intended to play your character, and do what your character would do. That is, if you feel like you are magneto and you want to try and lift that skyscrapper... you can try it. I'll be using these to help guide my choice in the resolution of that action. Reality: If your action is so small that it doesn't require a GM to resolve it, then the numbers don't matter anyway. If your action does require a GM to resolve it, all you've done is give me basic information that will be used alongside a slew of other factors to determine success or failure.

tl;dr - Put your faith in Wispyr. As my people say, "Ive gotchu bae"... Or something like that.

She's a bit more mellow, though ex-military and possessing all the baggage that entails. She's also protective of mutant children and other obvious mutants. This Marrow also has control of her powers.
