Can anyone tell me what is the link between Trump and RFK, Jr? RFK, Jr is a big democrat, former drug addict and convicted felon. He wrote about vaccines in a completely discredited article, then tried to link vaccines to autism. Maybe we should bring back all the viral diseases. Polio anyone?
It is probably a question of name recognition. That Trump wants to go through with this exercises indicates to me that he is something of a sceptic when it comes to vaccines. He probably picked the first guy whose name came to his mind concerning vaccines, and Kennedy is a memorable name.

Measures to Repeal Obamacare approved in Senate

Disheartening news, because it screws so many.  I highly doubt that between the house and the senate, current Republicans can get their heads out of their asses long enough by the Jan 27 date that Darth Cheeto has set for things to happen.  So, we will see, either way, if they completely remove the pre-existing conditions clauses myself and quite a few people are royally fucked.

Honestly, I keep waiting for the punchline. I keep waiting for someone to pop up with a cheesy game-show grin and announce that America's on Candid Camera.

I'm safe. I'm in Canada which to date manages to still give a shit about protecting our rights as human beings.

But see, I'm in school now, for the next two and a half years. The field I'm studying, I can take my diploma anywhere, or work for anyone in the world from the comforts of my own home. Requiem and I had plans to return to the US after I finish my program. And now we can't.

Because I'm queer.
Because we have a daughter.
Because two of our three sons are spectrum kids.
Because we're liberals.
Because we had an abortion.
Because we have medical conditions, like PEs and fibromyalgia, requiring continuous treatment.
Because we are working class and occasionally require social safety nets to get us through the month's end.

So I keep waiting for the punchline, because this is the most surreal shit I have ever fucking seen, and I can't help but wonder what alternate reality I woke up in this morning every single time a fresh post goes across my Facebook feed with the latest absurdist news.

And yet again, Cracked.com, of all places, has an intelligent and insightfully written article analyzing Trumpism.

I used to make jokes about getting all my news from the Colbert Show and the Daily Show, but comedy really has become more newsworthy than news.

Yeah, that was another good one. They are opinion pieces, but they (almost) always back up the opinions with links to sources, which makes them more newsworthy than some actual news (and certainly far more than most Opinion/Editorial comment sections).

That's true, but I feel like America has forgotten how to handle opinions, and that's why Trump is obviously going to be president for life and kill all the minorities. Which, is patently absurd.

I mean, there is probably someone taking this very thread-title at face value right now, which is sad.

Trump expanding Scottish golf course one week after promising "no new foreign deals"

Quote
Trump officials claim the venture does not conflict with the president-elect’s promise not to pursue new or “pending deals” during his presidency to avoid any conflicts of interest.

“Implementing future phasing of existing properties does not constitute a new transaction so we intend to proceed,” a Trump Organization spokeswoman told the Guardian.

Trump’s attorney, Sheri Dillon, told reporters at a news conference last Wednesday that Trump’s company would not be making any new foreign deals and would appoint an ethics adviser to sign off on new domestic business agreements.

So all they have to do is frame everything as "an expansion" and it will continue to be business as usual, apparently.

A friend of mine posted this on FB today.  The sheer scope of things (when listed like that) is frightening.

And he hasn't even taken office yet.

If anyone would like to join in, this article has a list of various events taking place on or near inauguration day to protest Trump and his policies.  There's also a general strike planned for the 20th, encouraging people not to work or buy anything on that day.  That isn't a usual form of protest in the U.S., but, well, we live in unusual times.  :/

I have seen two different things floating around facebook.  One suggests not even watching tv on the 20th in protest of Trump.  The other says to watch anything BUT the inauguration because they keep tracking of what people are watching - if more people watch anything but the inauguration then it will show as less people watched as opposed to not even turning on your tv - which would go in favor of those watching because it wouldn't show up as more people turned their tvs off that day.

I, for one, will not be watching though I suspect my dad will.  All I ever hear is "you have to give him a chance." despite everything that has happened to date that says he doesn't deserve any more chances.

For some reason, this isn't really being covered.  It's hard to find anything about Trump's religious beliefs, and based on this I suspect that's due to deliberate efforts to bury the information (or maybe all the crazy Tweets are meant as a distraction from this and not all his other weirdnesses).  I only found out because my SO is addicted to Cracked and they had an article on it:P

Quote
Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration will include Paula White and possibly other members of his inner circle, Darrell Scott, “Apostle” Wayne T. Jackson and Mark Burns. They’re all televangelists who hail from the “prosperity gospel” camp. They advocate a brand of Pentecostal Christianity known as Word of Faith.

This is a summary of Word of Faith.  It basically preaches that God loves rich people, and if you're wealthy it means you're automatically a good person.  Feeling ill?  That's because you're thinking negative thoughts and you just have to be more positive!  If you're one of the chosen, you can literally create things / cause things to happen just by speaking them aloud.

This all has some very scary implications, but psychologically it does explain an awful lot of Trump's attitudes.  For one, he's never asked God's forgiveness because he's obviously too rich to need it.  And it makes sense that he believes all this because for much of his life, pretty much whatever he's said aloud has been done for him by assistants who are probably desperate to keep him happy.

I'm definitely not watching. Any other day I have MSNBC on pretty much 24/7. Not today.

Oniya

Throw on some channel that isn't covering the inauguration, if possible.  The ratings don't figure in how many TVs are just plain off.

I'm half watching this, listening mostly, just because...this is such a ridiculous thing, I have to keep reminding myself it's actually happening.

Although eventually, going to the living room to watch my shows.

Valerian

According to Snopes, unless you're already a Nielsen family, watching or not won't affect the ratings for the spectacle.  But still, I'd much rather watch my Netflix anyway.  ::)

I'm in Canada, I'm just actively waiting for him to say something about imports/exports to and from Canada, or how they need to increase security or scrutiny at the borders between US and Canada.

I honestly could not believe the gall of the man, to stand there, at the inauguration podium, talking about how the factories shut down, talking about how people are out of jobs, while he and his own family members have their shit made IN OTHER COUNTRIES, and apparently, this too!

I'm just going to take it "one day at a time", and trying not to say anything inappropriate, since the Gestapo will take me away if I do, and throw me in a Russian gulag, given El Supremo's relationship with Russia.

Odds are long on Trump lasting even one four-year term. A lot of us may be thanking God for the 25th Amendment, which (for those unfamiliar with it) allows a majority of the cabinet and the Vice President to remove the President in the case in which he is (usually mentally) incapable of discharging the office of the President of the United States. Now, if you ask me, that describes Trump now, but at least SO far, he hasn't set us on a course that will destroy the entire planet. Once he does, cabinet invokes the 25th Amendment, and Trump can be president of any padded room he wants. Pence won't be much of an improvement, but at least he's sane.

But if Trump contests the cabinet decision, it would have to be confirmed by both House and Senate, if I remember correctly, so it is not a given that Pence and half the cabinet could get rid of Trump easily.

And that is assuming that they want to. A move like that would cost Republicans a lot of potential voters and could split the party completely. That's a big risk to take if you want to win the next election too.
