Hello everyone.  I'm not too sure this is where this post belongs so if any mods see this please let me know.

As everyone who likes Rooster Teeth should know RWBY volume 4 is back.  While I love the show and will continue to watch and support it.  The death of one of my favorite characters has left a bitter taste in my mouth.  Yes I am of the group that believes Pyrrha should not have died.  (No spoiler tag cause it's been 9 months, long enough to make a human, that's plenty of time to go watch it.)  I may be venting but I just cannot accept it.    Not since Optimus Prime have I wept real tears for a fictional character.

Below are a few common arguments I come across and my rebuttals to them

  • "It was Monty's idea she would die." And George Lucas had envisioned Jar Jar as more likable than he was.
  • "It's Monty's vision don't mess with it."  Again these are the same people trashing George Lucas for tweeking Star Wars to make it more like his vision.
  • "She had to die there was no other way."  As most of you writers all know there is no such thing as "No other way"  You are only limited by your imagination and to say that show your not imaginative enough to think of another way.
  • "If she was brought back it would ruin the show and/or cheapen her death and sacrifice."  Dragon Ball Z brings people back from the dead everyday and it's one of the longest running animes ever.  As for cheapening her death, I am not suggesting to waive a wand and poof she's back, or even not have her pay a price.  But I just want her back to continue her story.

Thanks for listening to my rant.  Now I have some questions I put forth to you all:

  • Is the artist infallible?  As I have stated.  Even the great George Lucas has been wrong on some things.  But why do we put these artist, great as they are, up on such pedestals?  Why do we forget that they are human and are prone to the same mistakes we all make?  Do you think that an artists "Vision"  is more important than his fans?  Has an artist ever let you down or went a direction you thought would've been better if they took the other route?

  • Beloved Charater Deaths  We all have lost a beloved character.  What do you do to cope with this.  I want to be over Pyrrha's death but I just can't accept it.

  • How would you rewrite her battle/bring her back?  This is specifically for fans that agree like I do that she should not have died or should be brought back.  I am curious to see what plot devices a group of internet amateurs and semi-professionals can come up with that a whole writing team couldn't.

We create in our minds this idea that main characters shouldn't die.  Writers tend to bends over backwards in order to meet this ideal.    As an example, I point to the Honor Harrington series by the author David Weber.   Weber himself admits that he'd originally intended to kill of his main character but later changed his mind due to the enormous popularity of that she had.

Pyrrha was also my favorite character . . . and I think it took guts for them to go ahead and kill her off anyways.  Revenant is a world where humans are not only in a constant state of war against environment but also at war with itself.  As far as changing the story: perhaps having Ruby show up a little earlier.

First off, hallelujah for fellow RT fans! We have a lot to discuss. :)

Second, there's a fan theory going around. I'm not sure if animation is planning on following this mindset, but it's a thought:

  • Each member of Team JNPR is named after a mythical or real world hero.
  • Each of those heros has a tragic death in history.
  • Since Pyrrha has died, it would be logical for the rest of the team (original, not the new Team RNJR) to follow suit at some point.
This theory would wreck everyone, especially those who love Jaune and are already realing from his reaction to losing the woman he loved, and how he's been acting and coping since Season 4 began. I feel like they might do something more heartwrenching involving the two later down the line. RT does attempt to please their fans, but also wants to keep them on their toes and excited for what's to come.

Another theory I've heard is that she will come back at some point, which is mostly based on the fact that they played off her death in RWBY Chibi as not having happened, which could have been just for that show, or foreshadowing this return.
