What's the average age for characters for this? Are we going with High school ages? Or more like college?
Upper high school, years 10 to 12, so age would be about 16-18 but can be a little higher. We have a few characters in second year (grade 11) who are 19 years old.

You have me super curious now. >_>

I might as well tell you.  This is all subject to approval of course, I don't know if they'll want me to change it (although since it won't come up unless we write a scene for it specifically, I hope it's not a problem).

Power
Power: Time Rewind.  When Jacob focuses, he can drag the flow of time backwards.  Everyone remembers what happened during the moments that never were, which may be enough to avert disaster -- but for some reason, everyone but Jacob finds it extraordinarily difficult (though not quite impossible) to change their actions when time repeats.  (The entire Maebara family reported feeling "trapped" into repeating the averted car crash, plunging helplessly toward their own deaths all over again, until Jacob grabbed the wheel.)  Fortunately, people who aren't near the event normally only experience a (very strong) feeling of deja vu.  Jacob has never reversed time for more than ten seconds, due to his power's drawback.

Drawback: Jacob can hold himself together for perhaps an hour or two after reversing time (he can even do it once or twice more if he must), but he quickly becomes shaky and weak, and passes out.  Jacob stays asleep for an amount of time proportional to the time he reversed, and is plagued by nightmares about the averted timeframe.  (His entire family has nightmares about the crash as well, although this probably isn't his power's fault directly.)

(NOTE: Jacob's power is pretty much unusable in the context of this game, unless we set up a scene for it specifically.  This is fine -- he doesn't want to use it, anyway.)

You can probably see why it won't happen normally.

(Also: I had my character written as first year, age 18.  Maybe he should be 17 -- I was sort of picturing college moreso than high school, in an American context.)

This is just my view on the matter, but it sounds like a really annoying power to write. I mean, what's the point of having it if you're not having a chance to play around with it? At that point, wouldn't he be the same if he didn't have it? Plus, small-scale time-travel can be incredibly tough to write, not to mention tough to write against. If you're confident you can play it well, I'd say go for it, not that I'm the one with the green and red stamps :P

And like mentioned before, don't underestimate the powerless. The balance shifts towards people with powers, because, well, people like playing people wth powers if it's being offered. However, the underdogs usually make the most interesting characters. Pulling the first example off the top of my head, think Frodo from LotR. He's got some things in his favor, but overall, most things he does well in the books, another character does better, but it doesn't change the fact he's the main character. There are plenty other good (Better*) examples of such characters too. What draws someone towards a character is how relatable they are, not how flashy their magical scar is. Being the underdog allows for a lot of unique directions that being powerful doesn't, so don't be shy of playing around with it.

That's the thing, the thing about powers. As one of my favorite characters often says "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." - The Point of powers isn't to play them, which is fun, but for some writers the point of powers are the conflict they raise within the character. That character actually sounds like he'd be very interesting, possibly even ranked as a Level 2 power - which is semi-dangerous if used in a rebellion. I often believe that the more powerful a gift is, the less likely someone is to use them. Once they get old enough to understand the repercussions of their actions, they realize that they have a responsibility to use their gifts well... responsibly.

It's an interesting conflict for a character to be faced with! :3

Real talk: I originally wrote Jacob as a non-powered character (who had issues growing up because his sister is empowered), until Ajoxer messaged me with his idea.  As it is, he won't use the power unless someone would die or be badly hurt, which is fine.

So yeah, I was fine with playing a "powerless" character until a cool idea showed up.  Jacob already works hard to be impressive in ways unrelated to his power.  And yeah, I guess you're referencing Harry Potter -- whose real impressive traits have little to do with his special status.  I'm not a huge fan of those books really, but I do enjoy that fact.

that is an interesting concept right there. A sibling is "Abnormal", and the Player isn't. Would (s)he be protective of their Abnormal Sibling? Would they be jealous? Would their closeness foster understanding, or hate?

Loosely so, yes. I'm not a die-hard fan of the books, but they do have its merits, and while I have my reservations for how it's set up, Harry Potter, the character that is, is overall a very well rounded and relatable character. He lacks in most elements, but build up over time, he's the eyes of the viewer so to speak. All the characters around him come from situations where they are more to terms with the situaton and know how to cope with it, he doesn't, so the reader learns about it through his eyes.

Anyways, guess I went off on a bit of a tangent there. Point is, being the underdog, or in this sense normal, is not a less lucrative position in any sense, if anything, it has the added benefit of having a lot of your character presented for you, making them easy to write, which often leads to a more enjoyable experience. The game isn't centered around PvP either, so it doesn't make any difference in the sense of "winning" either.

However, don't let this stop you from going with the concept you think will contribute better and that you think will be more enjoyable to write, after all, that's why we're all here, right? To have a good time? :)

So...as I see you're still accepting, would there be any objections to a shapeshifter with multiple drawbacks? I was thinking "can assume any human (or human like) form", "needs more food then most humans", "'Melts' in extreme heat"-I know it's a bit strange but it was just the first thing that popped into my head.

That seems like it would be tough to work with in RP, but if you can have it make sense and it's not over the top, I don't see why not.

For extreme heat, i was thinking "120 Farenheit or higher", though it might be the power you're thinking about? Also, it has to be all over heat so she won't melt if she just makes some tea.

Yeah, that seems fine. If you can come up with a sheet, I'll look at it and express any concerns.

While I would be happy to join in...I've decided that joining another game at the moment is not within my best interests. I hope everyone has fun, but I'm coming to realize I'm a bit booked.

I'm interested but I can't decide which character to use as I have several! :3

Mac84

Welcome snake! XD

Awww, Sorry to see you backing out Angie. You're a great RPer!

Snake

Well mac I don't have a character sheet up yet :3 Still trying to decide. I'm tempted to do a char that has tentacles they can sprout from their body to use in combat, utility or whatever. the drawback is that overuse riases risk of them turning on the char and causing a tentacle hentai scene :3
