Colonisation Game - Mrinka/Human

Mrinka and Human Joint Colony World

For an animated globe click here!
Nrrdvich, Rreh?

The Idea

It is the Human year 2373 CE. The war between Mrinka and Human has been over for a couple of decades, and tensions are easing at last. Humans are beginning to behave in a more hnahag way, and Mrinka are being less arrogant and are loosening up with regard to other species with Jump Drive. And the Joint Administration Exploration Service (JAES) has discovered a world that is not only ripe for colonisation, but according to the mineralogy scans by the survey probes, is one that absolutely must be colonised.

The world appears to have no indigenous sapient species. (NB: Sapience and Sentience are different things. Sentient means "self aware", while sapient means "thinking" or "wise". Domestic cats are clearly self-aware as any cat owner will tell you, but they are not capable of conscious thought - although some cat owners would argue with that too. On the other hand an AI computer program gives the appearance of being able to think, but it is not self aware!) There is a full and flourishing ecosystem that includes some large if primitive predators on land, in the air and in the oceans. The biology of the ecosystem is compatible with both Human and Mrinka: native plants and animals will be edible, although some toxins may be present in many species.

But the reason the planet is essential to the Joint Administration is the mineral wealth. There are deposits of iron ore, gold, tungsten, uranium, copper, and small amounts of other precious or useful metals. But the most important mineral is a metal called Tantalum. This element is vital for the production of bioengineered medical implants such as cranial communication and processing implant chips, it is highly sought after for coating ammunition, but the most important use of it is as of one of the vital working parts of the Interstellar Jump Drive. The element is hazardous to biological life in it's pure form, and refining is not expected to be carried out on the mining colony, but the native ores will be shipped to refineries in other parts of Human and Mrinka space.

Mining is expected to be carried out in a Hnahag manner, of course, doing as little damage to the environment of the planet as possible. To this end, state of the art mining equipment will be supplied by the Joint Administration.

Note that the planet has zero deposits of carbon based minerals such as coal, oil and natural gas. It is not old enough yet to have acquired such deposits.

Farming and hunting will also be encouraged, according to hnahag rules. The JA Colonisation Authority (JACA) have analysed the survey's findings and have determined a number of bioengineered crops and animals that can be safely introduced into the ecosystem without unbalancing it.

The colony will be expected to be self sustaining within five (Earth) years, with imports being offset by exports within one. Failure to achieve either goal will result in the JADF taking over the colony. While the Mrinka on the JACA objected to this as being hnahagrr, the humans were quick to point out that it would be hnahagrr not to get the best use from the world's mineral resources and if the initial colony were unable to do so, then a military expedition to extract as much as possible as quickly as possible would be the only hnahag response. The Mrinka reluctantly agreed.

A joint population composed of approximately 60% Mrinka and 40% human - the imbalance being due to the higher Human birth rate; one thousand souls in all, have been selected. They are taken from all walks of life (except criminals - this is NOT a penal colony), with a preference being given to mining engineers. The colony ship has delivered them to the planet with all necessary equipment and they now have the arduous task of creating a city to live in, then expanding and exploring their new world.

The Resources

First a bit of background:

The Mrinka are an alien race, feline in appearance and genetic make-up. They were created by myself (Chrystal) for a specific one-on-one story that is reaching it's end. The race grew in complexity and richness over the course of the story, their language and culture evolved - as did their biology to a certain extent.  They now have their own page within Elluiki. I have become quite attached to the species and want to continue using them, hence this game idea.

The backstory to the game revolves around a 50 year interstellar war fought between the Mrinka and the Human Race, which ended in one decisive battle - decisive in so far as it ended the war, that is - both sides had, over the half century of conflict, fought each other to a draw. The final battle ended the same way, with both fleets reduced to a few capital ships each and about the same number of lesser vessels, all damaged in some way, all low on fuel and out of ordnance.

With the war effectively over, the politicians on both sides took over and fought each other to win the peace that followed. The treaty that evolved was unsatisfactory to both sides and was composed of a number of compromises. Over the following years the two warlike and aggressive races have learned to live together in as close to peace as possible.

The Mrinka Elluiki Page. Pleaase read this if you wish to play a Mrinka. You don't need to learn it by heart, but you need to know about the species. Please be aware that the wiki is a work in progress and more sections may be added to it over time.

Interstellar Enemies. This is the story for which the species was created. If you wish to read it, please bare in mind that the species, the language and the concept evolved as time went on. Also, please take note of the fact that my writing partner was brand new to Elliquiy and that was her first ever story written in the forums. Personally I think she is a great writer and was a great writer even back then!

The Mrinka - an idea request thread. I created this thread to see if I could gain some interest in the species as a whole and possibly work out an idea that would utilise them. The thread you are currently reading is the result.

Jump Drive. This thread was created for a totally different game, but it is my preferred method of getting from one star to another.

Two Important Points About The Mrinka

You may already have gathered this knowledge from looking at the links above but these points are so important that they need to be stressed.

1) Hnahag

The word "hnahag" (and it's negative, "hnahagrrr") have already been used. This concept is so important to the Mrinka that it needs to be stressed everywhere. Hnahag is the guiding principle of life for the Mrinka. It's closest English translation is honour, but it embodies so much more than that. Imagine a code of conduct that was taught to every child, engrained into their psyche from infant-hood, that was like a combination of the Japanese code of Bushido, the medieval European code of Chivalry, and the way of life of the Native North American Planes Tribes.

The basic principals are to take only what is needed, to use all of what is taken - or as much as possible - to give back what you do not need, to kill only when necessary and to do so quickly and cleanly, to die only if necessary but not to fear death and to die in an honourable way. The underlying core principal is not to waste anything, even one's own life.

2) Gender

The Mrinka have three genders: Male, Premale and Female. Males are big, muscular (although they can run to fat), and have the usual male equipment... Premales are smaller, usually slender, flat chested, and have a single ovary that connects to an invertible vagina, but no womb. Females are about the same size as premales, and tend to be curvy, they have mammalian breasts in various sizes, and a non-invertible vagina that leads to a womb, but do not have ovaries.

Examples of what the three genders might look like:

Male
Premale
Female

Fur colour and length varies as much as skin and hair do with Humans. The same applies to build and height. If you can't find an image you like and want to use one of those three, please ask. They are only there as examples. Facial features will vary too, but as long as they are feline I'm not going to quibble between a lion and a house cat. Do bare in mind that premales should look effeminate but have flat chests.

Game Basics

My standard rules of play will follow in a post after this one. Please read them before submitting a character sheet. Doing so implies that you have read and are in agreement with them, and the character creation rules that follow them in the post after.

The game is open to players of any gender and orientation. Characters submitted must be either Human or Mrinka. Human characters mus be male or female please. While this is my personal preference I also have some justification for this in game terms. If anyone needs to know it, please send me a PM. Equally, Mrinka characters must be male. premale or female. For a Mrinka to want to change gender would be hnahagrrr.

Regarding player gender verses character gender, I am going to permit cross-gender characters, on the condition that such characters are bisexual or straight. My reason for this is simply that I have seen group games die because most of the female characters were played by male players who only wanted to write with the female players, who didn't want to write with them! I have no real objection to male players playing female characters and no real objection to female players playing male characters in this game, provided they are willing to write with each other if necessary!

Lieges may play whichever of the five available genders they feel happiest with and Mrinka premales may be played by anyone!

THERE WILL BE NO STOW-AWAYS. A few years ago I ran a game set on Mars. I said then that I would allow a stowaway character if and only if the player could come up with a realistic answer to the question of how the stow-away survived the two year journey to Mars with no food and no water! Needless to say, no-one did. In this instance I'm simply going to say no.

The same goes for criminals or mentally/emotionally unstable characters. This is not a penal colony, and all colonists would have been screened. Remember that both sides are trying to impress the other with how amazing their society is, after having fought a long and futile war.

War veterans will only be allowed if the character is over 38 in Human years, however I will allow characters who lost relatives in the war, provided they are not looking to start it up again! In fact I think it highly unlikely that a character would not have lost an older relative!

Inter-Species Relationships

So, yes, smut is going to be allowed. I would like to think that it will be secondary to the story, but I know I would only be kidding myself.

And yes, relationships will be allowed between the different species. I am not going to put any restrictions whatsoever regarding who can have sex with whom, my only requirement is that the players must agree to the relationship between their characters. In fact, I know I'm hoping for a lot, but I would love to see a three-way between a male and female Human and a Mrinka premale.

Please note, however, that the above three-way is THE ONLY way that pregnancy can occur in a mixed race relationship - if the Mrinka premale transfers the Human male's semen to the Human female while she is fertile. All other mixed species pairings will be incapable of producing children Naturally

On that same subject, however, note that artificial insemination and in-vitro fertilisation is practised by both species and the Colony Medical Centre will (eventually) be equipped with the means to carry these out.

Anything Else

Your GM's for this game will be Chrystal and if a second GM becomes necessary, Justric may agree to take the role. BeckyAnnn will be serving in an advisory capacity, I hope.

Threads will be listed below as and when they appear.

The game will be placed in Bondage Exotic, to allow people to engage in kinky fun, but I will not allow non-consensual scenes.

Please post your interest below, and once character sheets are available, please PM them to me for approval BEFORE posting them here

Thanks for Reading

Rules Of Play

These are my standard OOC rules of play for group games. I put them in every group game I run, usually with minor variations to suit the specific setting. I like to think there is nothing draconian or unacceptable here, and I ask all players to read them. Submitting a character sheet to me implies that you have read and are in agreement with these rules, and the rules for character creation.

IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH SOMETHING HERE, PLEASE TELL ME!

All rules except two are negotiable!

Playing in the Kitty's Sandbox? Eww!

This is a "sandbox" game. What that means is that I as GM provide you the players with a setting and it is entirely up to you what you do with it. I will create events from time to time, if the game survives long enough for me to do so. But on the whole it is up to you, the players to decide what to do and make your own stories. You have an entire alien world out there filled with all sorts of different creatures that will do different things. Some you might want to eat. Some might want to eat you. (I mean in a ferocious tear bits off and eat them blood everywhere kind of way; DOWN, girl!)

With a base of over 1000 population, there is plenty of scope for people to simply appear and disappear into the crowd. Non Player Characters will also be available to use. There is an entire planet to explore. And you know? I'm pretty certain that if the game survives a year, we will still not have fully explored a single continent!

RULES:

  • The GM's word is law. This does not mean I'm not open to discussion, but if it comes to an impasse, if a decision needs to be made, or a discussion is getting out of bounds, I will render a decision that I expect to be abided by. I will do this based upon context.
  • Respect other players ons and more importantly, their offs! This is NOT negotiable. Ons and offs are there for a reason. If you feel someone has broken this rule, please PM them first to talk about it. If they will not change their post, then contact me via PM and I will deal with it. Please note that persistently ignoring another players O/Os is grounds for reporting to staff!
  • Try to post at least once a week. If you know you will be unable to post for a while please let us know in advance in the OOC. it is a good idea to create an Apologies/Absences (A/A) thread so everyone you are RPing with knows where you've gone. Players who fail to post for a considerable length of time will have their characters taken over by the GM and removed from play
  • If you know you are going to be away for a considerable time (more than a week) please bring any story-arcs you are involved in to a conclusion, or extract your character from them. If you inform me you will be away, I will not kill off your character!
  • If you find your character is sitting around doing nothing, post something to the OOC, or PM me. If you wait for someone to interact with you, you will wait a long time. Let me know and I will create an event for you.
  • If you have any questions about anything in the game, ASK! The only stupid questions are "how many beans make five" and ones that aren't asked!
  • The OOC-Chat thread will be for people to chat. I have no problems with you guys discussing the latest football results if you wish, (although I'd rather you didn't as I don't like football), because it means you are getting on as a group. Use that thread as you see fit, but please give priority to game related discussion.
  • Please tag all IC posts using the code that will be supplied, editing the details as appropriate. This will enable other players and myself to track where everyone is.
  • There is no rule 9.
  • Players who drop out of the game will have their character taken over by the GM and disposed of as I see fit. If this is unacceptable to you, don't drop out of the game.
  • Please try to post a minimum of 300 words per post. If you post short once in a while, that isn't going to be a problem, but doing so consistently will draw my attention and I will ask you to expand your posts. If the player you are responding to has not given you enough material to write a decent length post from, PM them and ask them to expand their post.
  • God-Moding is a big no-no, but a certain amount of "moving the story on" needs to be expected. If you feel you have been god-moded, talk it over by PM, and if you cannot reach a satisfactory solution, bring it to me.
  • Non Player Characters can be created "on the fly" by players, but if a NPC is used persistently by the same player they will become a PC. If that player already has the maximum number of characters the former NPC will be taken over by the GMs.
  • World details may be created and filled in "on the fly" by players. However any major discoveries in terms of minerals, flora and fauna must be run past the GM first.
  • Actions have consequences! If your post has been replied to, it has become canon. Please do not edit it without permission.
  • HAVE FUN! This too is non-negotiable. If you aren't having fun, I would like to know why, so I can change whatever it is that is stopping you having fun!

Character Creation

Rules

Please read the following rules before filling in a character sheet. Failure to do so may result in your character being needlessly rejected, when something as simple as (for example) finding one more thing the character is bad at could save you the hassle. Submitting a character sheet implies that you have read and are in agreement with the Rules Of Play (above) and the character Creation Rules.

  • TWO Characters maximum per player.
  • All character sheets are to be submitted to me by PM for approval before being posted here.
  • All characters are to be submitted on one or other of the character sheets below. Character sheets must be sent in with the formatting unchanged please. If you are unsure of how to do this, please ask.
  • All characters must be a minimum of 18 Earth years or the equivalent in Kraahh years old. Don't worry about the conversion, just say how old they would be if they were human and had grown up on Earth.
  • All characters must be Mrinka or Human. Nothing else.
  • All Human characters must be male or female. All Mrinka characters must be male, premale or female.
  • Character pictures may be photographs or artwork. Photographs should be at least marginally work-safe. Artwork must be of good quality: no cartoon-like or "two-dimensional" images please. I will judge what I consider to be "Good quality". Obviously most Mrinka characters will have artwork as pictures, but photorealistic images do exist, and players are welcome to use such if they can find one they like!
  • Additionally, characters must have realistic proportions. No mega cocks, no back-breaker bosoms.
  • No Stow aways. All characters must be legitimately part of the colony. All characters are to have a job and/or specialisation that will be of use in setting up and/or keeping the colony going.
  • No Mary-Sue, Marty-Stu or Mrrv-Strf characters, no over-powered characters, no genetically modified characters.
  • Cybernetics will be permitted to a limited extent. It is assumed that all characters have a comms implant chip, that provides instant data and voice comms, provides a time signal (adjusted to local time), and basically does everything your smart-phone does and more. In addition, cybernetic limb replacements will be permitted, especially for war veterans, however any such limb replacement must be justified, and must be a disability rather than an enhancement. I will not accept characters that have voluntarily had both legs replaced by cybernetic ones in order to run faster, for example.
  • No Criminals, no mentally unstable characters (I will permit PTSD for Veterans), no deliberately disruptive characters.

DISCLAIMERS:

1) The GM reserves the right to reject a character sheet for any reason or for no reason. I will normally try to give you a reason and offer ways in which the character may be made acceptable, but I don't have to.
2) Any character submitted to the GM and approved for the game becomes the property of the game. If the player drops out, the GM reserves the right to dispose of the character however she sees fit, including but not limited to: Killing the character; Pretending the character never existed; Taking over the character as a NPC; Having the character fade into the back ground and disappear; Deporting the character from the colony; Offering the character "as is" to another player.
3) Behaviour that I consider to be deliberately disruptive, either IC or OOC, may be reported to staff.

Player ID: Chrystal

Character Name: Drop-Troop Hrrrmrru Leader (Rtd) Gleah Mahvarr

Gender: Female.

Age: 41
Height: 178 cm
Mass: 76 kg
Build: Curvy, still slim but beginning to loose the muscle tone.

Eye Colour:  Blue
Head Fur Colour: Straw-yellow
Primary Body Fur Colour: White
Fur Length: Short - around 1 cm

Distinguishing Marks: Black tiger stripes at random over much of her body, scar on her left hip and buttock from a war wound.

Specialisation and/or Job: Colony Director, Director of Mrinka Affairs, Assistant Director of Human Affairs.
Strengths: Disciplined; Good leader who has consistently earned the respect of her troops; flexible, especially on what is and is not Hnahag; Even tempered.
Weaknesses: Dislikes her decisions being questioned; Has been known to bend the rules a little too far; Tends to flinch when she sees a Human with a weapon; Thinks the Joint Administration is a bunch of yllalasvach.

Likes: Rare yllala steak, Gluras, Human coffee, being cuddled, other females.
Dislikes: Males, the idea of getting pregnant, having her tail pulled, humans with loaded guns!

Personality: For a senior Mrinka, Gleah is pretty laid back. Most of the generation that survived the war are either like her, or the complete opposite. Gleah is the sort to be open minded about the future, and tries to be optimistic. Unfortunately she sees to much yllalasvach to be too relaxed. She has a natural built-in cynicism that enabled her to not worry too much, but the more she has seen of the Joint Administration, the more cynical she has become about the future independence of her species. Gleah is slow to anger, quick to laugh, enjoys a good joke, and a good meal with friends and family. She is generally sociable but objects to being hit on by Premales, preferring to be the 'aggressor' in any relationship.

Planet of Origin: Vritlib was a major hub, space-port, ship yard and industrial world before the war, with a population of eight million Mrinka and about a million slaves. The planet was attacked several times during the war, with major installations being bombarded from orbit on a number of occasions. It was successfully invaded by Human ground forces about two thirds of the way through the war, with the human troops only being successfully ejected from part of the continent they captured. Now, the world is recovering, but still bears many of the scars of the conflict.

History: Gleah was born to a factory worker, her husband who drove a delivery vehicle and her "prife" who worked for an accountancy firm. Gleah's Earth-mother was killed in a bombing raid on the munitions factory she worked in when Gleah was 6. With her father away most of the time, Gleah was raised by her Tree-mother and a nanny. The nanny was a green, scaly-skinned slave called Mucsha. When she was 16 she passed the exams to enter officer training and was shipped off to the academy on Kraahh. She selected the Drop-Troops as her chosen arm, and at 18 passed out as a Rrahhrrr leader. She was part of the failed invasion of Balton's World, a human mining colony established just before the war on the edge of the contested zone. With heavy casualties on both sides and the colony cut off, Gleah earned a field promotion to Rrihrrha leader.

When everything was looking bleak and it seemed as though the Mrinka forces would be forced to fight to the last, she took her hundred troops on a daring raid, captured several vital supply points, and forced the Human defenders to negotiate a cease-fire. This action was later questioned by the Mrinka high command as being potentially hnahagrr, but she was exonerated by the testimony of her troops and her commanding officer, who insisted that saving the lives of a thousand Mrinka drop-troops was definitely a hnahag act!

The cease-fire was still holding when JASAR rediscovered the world some three years after the war ended. After her hearing and exoneration, she was promoted to Mrru Leader. But the role was now mostly a desk job, and she had spent the last few years of her life fighting for survival. So when she was offered a golden handshake promotion to Hrrrmrru leader and early retirement, she jumped at the chance.

Reason for applying: Gleah hates being inactive. She hated her desk job in the JADF, hated the JA for the compromises it represented, and saw the colony as a means of getting away, at least to a certain extent, from the bureaucracy.

Greetings! I'll be playing the part of the human administrator (with the GM's permission once finalized, of course) and possibly also a pre-male Mrinka in some capacity or another. As Chrystal has mentioned, I'll be the co-GM if the need arises for one and if she still regards me to be suitable for that position.

Let the ideas flow!

Where's the fun in that?   *snickers

Honestly, Becky, I know you were joking, but I do have very good reasons for banning non-consensual play. I do not want this game to turn into a war between the Mrinka and the Humans. It's supposed to be the exact opposite, the two races working together to prove that they can do so. If I allow rape, then I am going to have to deal with the consequences of that, which will be that the player's character will be arrested, tried and executed. And I don't want to have to deal with that, either!

I want people to have fun, but not at the expense of common sense...

Well, if you knew that I was joking then there was no need for an explanation.  I knew you would have a good reason for it and understood why you would not want it in this game even when I made the post.

You should have been expecting some wise ass remark from me.  ;)

Honey, an explanation is necessary, because other people might not realise you were joking and you said that in a public thread. I know you pretty well, dear, not everyone does!

Well, the game will require multiples of pretty much every kind of person you can imagine: miners, farmers, hunters, scientists, medics, geologists, zoologists, marine biologists, cooks, quartermasters, engineers, administrators, accountants, meteorologists.... You name it.

Your biggest choice is which species you want to play. Decide that first, then which gender, and maybe think about what sort of job might interest you on a brand new frontier colony world...

Whatever you come up with, I will be able to find a niche for you in the colony, and create events that will keep your character active!

I thought rule 9 was "Don't Panic." written in large friendly letters?

Right now I am leaning toward a female of either species. Not gonna lie, I want to pet the kitty as much as anyone else ... though I don't mind being the one petted either so... yanno... decisions xD

You can be a kitty and still pet a kitty... In fact that would be the preferred relationship for the older (NPC) characters... Just because cross-species sex is allowed, doesn't mean it has to happen! (Of course I know that it is going to, that kind-of goes with out saying). But the first mixed species couple that come to the colony administrators asking for a formal marriage contract are going to open a can of worms, kick over a hornet's nest and catch a large vicious predator by the tail!

*grins*

I'll see about those character sheets...
