Looking for D&D (3.5)?
« on: October 12, 2016, 09:12:05 AM »
So years ago, I used to play tabletop D&D 3.5.  I still have dozens of books from it.  Unfortunately, I moved a few years ago, and my gaming group got left behind.  I've been working a little bit on 5E games, and even have a tiny bit of 4E experience, but I really miss 3.0/3.5, and would love to get in a game if possible.

I was hoping to play a 3.5 epic game.

Never played Epic before.  I assume it'd be the same concepts, just bigger.

I would prefer starting ,get this, at 1st level or maybe second and be a young person starting out. I'm though far more into role-playing then hacking away at monsters. If anyone wants to start a game.

I'm down with playing this, but I don't know how good I'd be at DMing.

I DO have a campaign world I could use, though.

This, I'd love to see this happen. I think even stealing and adapting the opening from Wheel of time, and simply be a group of basically kids, just fresh out of puberty, with no clue of how the real world works, and slowly finding out and coming to grips.

If you're willing to GM Thauma, and I'd be selected to play, I'd happily help with any questions you have. But to be fair if you make it roleplay focussed, you'd have a rather easy time of it, comparatively speaking.

Hey, there I am an experienced 3.5 with a campaign that goes from 5th level to epic level although the random towns could be modified to be more easily at lower levels. As for it being less combat focused and more roleplay focused 3.5 honestly doesn't lend itself well to that and it takes a lot of real effort to make combat and stat focusing happen less. 5e lends itself better to character focused campaigns. I like to think my plot is good for a character focus however it does make large use of overpowered NPCs to stand as both landmarks of how powerful your characters are when you become their equals as well as being there to make sure you think twice about fighting your way through every single conflict or purposely diverting from the story. Anyone interested? If so I'll explain the basic plot and world.

It's funny; I tend to see a LOT Of interest for 3.5 games, and yet so far few of them.  That said, I did have the chance to play in one recently, but there were a LOT of people interested, so I simply stepped back.  I am in a 5.0 game right now that so far has been fairly combat heavy (ie: 2 back to back encounters on day 1 is as far as we've gotten).

I'd be perfectly fine in any sort of combat-driven 3.5 game, keeping in mind the speed that forum-driven-dice-rolling-etc can take.  Never played epic.

I've just started a 3.5 interest thread.

Though I do agree 5.0 lends itself to storydriven, and tbf to PbP altogether, as 3.5 is somewhat more rules heavy, it is not as bad as 4.0 or pathfinder where it becomes almost impossible to skip the round by round.

I'm seriously considering simply moving to an AD&D 2nd edition game though, which lends itself much more to cinematic play.

I have like 3 books for 2.0, which includes a very old book with half it's cover missing.  Just the idea of THAC0 makes my teeth itch.

Yeah forums can take a while but the goal with posting is to get as much progress through the story over a week as you would in person.  A big ask some weeks.  Easy other weeks. Also with a full world of lore I'm not just gonna throw it down unless people want to give it a shot.  The starting level can be anywhere from 1 to 5 and it goes until quite a bit into epic level.  So who all wants to play that kinda game?

I replied to Tam.  in 2 days there was already 16 replies.  That's my biggest concern; massive games, or too many people turned away.

Meh. In this case the 16 replies is six or seven people. I tend to cut my games at five to prevent overcrowding. The issue that is bugging the RP community in general, and E as well is too few people willing to GM.

From experience there are too few looking to GM because it is near impossible to make sure your group will keep the game going long term.  Many people here think they want a long term game and then get burnt out on it. Not everyone can write without losing their muse.

Yeah, that's about it.  But it's not just D&D, it's also any RP.  I'm in a few group games that have flared out because the Dm burned out because they don't get a chance to play, and the players dont' step up to do their own.  I know the feeling there; I have the time to create a character, but not enough to dedicate to running.  Hell, my current 5.0 game has already stalled out on Encounter #2.

But when D&D goes up, it fills instantly, as seen.  The windows to join are so tiny...

I tend to let my recruit threads last a week to ten days. Upside, more people get a chance, downside, more people get a chance thus more people to reject. And yes, I hardly get a chance to play. Maybe one day I can run a pathfinder AP (or 5th) were each player DM's one part of the story (in the case of PF, one book) and that way everyone gets to play and DM.

By the time I had a chance to even open a book, two of my ideas had been taken, and I dislike the idea that I 'showed up after' and took a spot from someone.  Hence my trying to initially say what I was interested in, but others immediately made similar concepts.  I don't like upsetting people, so I just try to get in early.  I was thinking specialist wizard, one was grabbed quickly.  I suggested possibly cleric (since it could work the same as the wizard, for certain things), I've seen 2 since.  I was thinking maybe tank, the last post out was someone doing that, so... meh.
