Where should I go? (To discuss improving writing)
« on: October 05, 2016, 11:20:33 PM »
I want to discuss some of the ways to possibly improve the role playing experience here on E, specifically in regards to character creation, development and stability. I'm currently taking part in a creative writing class and one of the most interesting things I've taken from it is a list of details to fill out about a character in order to properly fill them out. I'm looking for a thread where writers here share their own strategies, or ask question on improving? The list is down below, and I'm hoping to discuss it with someone, in the appropriate forum.

PHYSICAL
What is the character’s appearance?
What is the character’s health?
What are the character’s medical problems?
What does the character wear?
What is the character’s age and sex?

SOCIOLOGY
What are the character’s family relationships?
What is the character’s nationality?
What is the character’s religion?
What are the character’s hopes?
What are the character’s political views?
What is the character’s class or status?
What is the character’s occupation?
What is the character’s career?
What is the character’s financial situation?

PSYCHOLOGY
What are the character’s superstitions?
What are the character’s talents?
What are the character’s ambitions?
What are the character’s disappointments?
What are the character’s inhibitions?
What are the character’s obsessions?
What are the character’s tastes?
What are the character’s fears?
What are the character’s phobias?
What is the character’s philosophy?
What are the character’s morals?
What is the character’s temperament?
What are the character’s mannerisms?
What are the character’s hobbies?

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
What was the character’s childhood like?
What was the character’s education?
What was the character’s relationship with his/her parents?
What was the character’s first kiss like?
What was the character’s war record?
What was the character’s greatest moment of happiness?
What was the character’s greatest moment of sadness?

Thank you for the suggestion! I'll have a look.

I think this thread would do. It seems like I'll find a lot of input from here. :) Thanks!

You're welcome. It was the first place that came to mind for such a topic. Hopefully others will think along the same line. You could also post a link in your signature to garner attention for the topic. :D

That's a good idea as well. I'm not too prevalent on the social forums, most of my activity is on the Role Playing threads but perhaps this can be a good first dip into it.

In case anyone was wondering who might be viewing (including you, Oreo ;) ) I did make a thread for it in the forum mentioned and I'm putting a link here to hopefully draw discussion.
