I'm so glad something positive's come out of the silly/funny 'storm Area 51' meme. Normally Fox news isn't my cuppa tea, but this is still a genuinely heartwarming article:

This is such a bittersweet story - very nice idea and symbol, but one would have wished that it hadn't been needed:

See-saws for kids installed at a US-Mexican stretch of border barrier in California:

Mitch McConnell has fallen and fractured his shoulder. Here's to a slow recovery.  ;) I don't normally endorse bad tidings for anyone, but when it comes to this man...

I'm not going to tell people they can't dislike Mitch McConnell (I'm not exactly fond of him myself), but this sort of post is not why I created this thread & is not in line with the thread purpose. This thread is for positivity & uplifting news, not for wishing and celebrating people being physically hurt. Take the news about McConnell to the 'what's in the news' thread instead.

The Milky Way galaxy isn't straight and fully symmetrical, in the neat way it's always been presented - no, it's warped and bent at the sides.

Not of any consequence here on Earth, in itself, but it's just amazing that this kind of thing can be measured and mapped. :)

A Russian Airbus plane with more than 230 people on board makes an emergency landing in a field just 1 km from the airport near Moscow (but no dpoubt after having travelled a bit further and then making a wide turnaround). Soon after taking off, they ran into a flock of birds and got several of them pulled into both jet engines. The plane gets down in one piece, after both engines had locked down, and all passengers make it out alive, most of them by far without any serious injuries.

Kudos to the pilot and the crew - this is extremely difficult to do on glide flight only and at massive time pressure. I can't help thinking of a similar miracle incident in Sweden almost thirty years ago:

Bird strikes are no joke. Working in the Navy, I’ve seen them on both turbo props and turbo jets. The props usually do better. One strike that got scary was an E2 flying into a flock of seagulls. The radome and pilot window were more damaged than the engine.

The first strike I had to help with was on an S3B while I was with my first squadron VS-33. We think a 50 pound pelican hit the outer shroud of the turbo fan and it went thru the shroud and totally destroyed a t-valve in the shroud. This is a metal valve about the size of both my fists held together. Gone. Funnily enough, had it done the hit about 5 inches lower and gone into the fan elements nothing would have been damaged

Except the pelican of course. We spent 2 tours looking over the endings and found only enough bird to fill a MAF bag (a zip lock bag 3 inch by 9 inch) and it wasn’t even a 1/4 filled.

A seaweed has been discovered that can dramatically reduce methane emissions from cattle ranching. Since I doubt people will stop loving a good burger, this is a game changer.

PhilosophyTube has been raising money for the charity Samaritans. He's raised over 100k! For it he and many guests have been reading the works of Shakespeare, he had Sonicfox on and various guests included Doug Cockle who voiced Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher games.

Who also talked about how he supports trans rights which is nice. ^_^

Sonicfox also did a stream raising money, he was doing it for the Trevor Project. Someone I know Casey has been guesting and helping with getting guests and she's talked about possibly having me on stream some time to talk Sekiro as well so I might end up helping as a guest at some point as part of the Skeleton Crew which is neat. ^_^

In some ways the exact opposite of an uplifting story but it made me smile.

Members of the Catholic Church are working together with the indigenous people of the Amazon to help protect the forest. I know some of it is probably just for good publicity on the part of the church, but so long as the forest is protected I am happy.

After months of protests, street clashes and mighty demonstrations, the government of Hongkong has finally retired the infamous proposed new law that would allow for "troublesome elements" in the city to be transferred to mainland China and tried there.

This isn’t done by a long shot. Hong Kong leadership is the ones that blinked. Beijing will move again, and they will have lists of folks when they move again
