The Vatican declares that to be a consecrated virgin of Christ, in the traditional sense, it's not an absolute requirement to never have had any full sexual encounters - what matters is a spirit of mental and human dedication. This is going to be controversial for sure, but I think the Vatican and Pope Francis are completely right - insisting on physical virginity from birth is not really viable.

The Japanese village of Inakadate transforms its rice paddies into a visual spectacle each year.

This year, the intricate rice art celebrates the 90th anniversary of innovative manga artist Osamu Tezuka.
He is referred to as a father-like figure for the manga genre and often considered to be the Japanese equivalent of Walt Disney.

Quote
This weekend, a viral video emerged showing a waitress beating up a guy who casually groped her as he walked by in an outdoor restaurant. The video, which was shared on Reddit by someone identified as the waitress’s cousin, quickly attracted tens of thousands of views and quite a bit of praise for the waitress for failing to put up with the assault.

So satisfying to see :D

Mom of the year, a mama duck with 76!!! babies. Most likely she is caring for other ducks babies as well as one duck can't lay that many eggs. It isn't uncommon for them to do so, but in this number is rare.

She’s building a duck orphanage! :D

The EU may be bureaucratic and unwieldy, but standing up against big business is something it can do. Margarethe Vestager, everybody!

I was reading a bit on this the other day - that species of duck is known for having 'creches', where a more experienced mama will tend the ducklings while the new moms are molting.  It's even an unusual number for the average creche, though.  Less of an orphanage and more like ducky-day-care.

Good news for all you music fans - Ticketmaster is shutting down two of the main sites that allow people to rip you off by buying up tickets and then reselling them above face value.

N. K. Jemisin has won a Hugo award for every book in a trilogy she wrote, I believe. Her acceptance speech this year, for 2018, is nothing short of uplifting and fucking inspirational. She's amazing. I'm going to go find her books and read them just for this speech alone.

The entire list of winners this year was amazing.  Of particular note, Rebecca Roanhorse won the Campbell award (best new writer) and Best Short Story, Nnedi Okorafor won the WSFS Award for Best YA Book.
