"In normal times, evil would be fought with good.
But in times like these, well,
it should be fought by another kind of evil."
-Aereon, Chronicles of Riddick

Greetings writers, welcome to Hellions.

Hellions is a Science-Fiction/Cyberpunk Storytelling Sandbox that takes place in the year who knows on the planet called Kintar.

People have been living on Kintar now for just over four hundred years and things were going great until about thirty years ago. That's when the Usoba showed up and things got messy. Humanity ended up out here in deep space a long time ago, the details of which are either lost, kept secret or so warped at this point that it's impossible to distinguish what was fact from what is fallacy. The story goes something like this:

Humanity was on earth and they were doing their thing. That means strutting themselves all over the place, grabbing their nuts and giving one another the bird, and firing nukes off at one another. That last bit is really the part that sticks out in most peoples minds though. There was a big war, but the details on that war are a bit hazy. Some people will tell you China got sick of the USA's bullshit and decided to expand; others will tell you Russia unleashed their not so secret arsenal in a power play to reestablish themselves; still others credit the event to some terrorist group that found the long lost Weapons of Mass Destruction hiding in Iraq. Truth is that it doesn't matter what the fuck happened, the point is that it did happen and then shit got real. The world nearly bombed itself into the next dark age - and they probably would have if it wasn't for one very strong independent woman named Adelae Haynes.

Adelae was already a pretty significant person, because she was leading the field in deep space exploration efforts and reinvigorating the space programs across the globe. It was her idea that all countries should be working on this together, and ultimately she became the head of Sexto Orbis - literally Sixth World. Why Sixth World? Because she broke down the worlds major space programs - NASA (Nation Aeronautics and Space Administration), ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), ESA (European Space Agency), CNSA (China National Space Administration), JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and RFSA (Russian Federal Space Agency) - who had full launch capabilities and brought them together to work together. About ten years into their joint research is when the war started and it was this organization that brokered peace... eventually. Needless to say at this point the world had suffered pretty heavily and so they took their research and crafted the future of humanity.

They called them Genesis Ships and they were supposed to be all inclusive. They contained enough materials and technology that the people living on the habitable deep space worlds that had been discovered by Sexto Orbis could colonize and grow much like they had on earth. Of course people would never survive the flight and they didn't have a neat answer to that problem. So they didn't try. Instead they took volunteers - five hundred per Genesis Ship - and put them into chemically induced comas. Then through the power of advanced technology and calculations they began breeding these five hundred people on board, literally growing their babies. Each of the six ships was designed to hold a hundred thousand people, of which they expected to be full and cycled some generations before the ships arrived at their destination planets. Then as promised each of the Genesis Ships was flung into deep space, and contact with the home world hasn't happened since.

Floating through space the machines on the Genesis ships kept the coma induced people in check, while using its automated parts to continue breeding them, growing new people and allowing population not only to stay healthy but grow. The ship was actively working to fill all one-hundred thousand containment pods. As people aged and decayed they were recycled. Genesis Ship code named Aphrodite was the ship to land on Kintar. That's also when it woke up what records would come to call Generation 1.

Truth be told Generation 1 really had a shitty job; they had to settle Kintar. Luckily they had been provided everything they needed to do exactly that. By breaking apart, slowly, Aphrodite they were able to rebuild human society on Kintar at a level roughly equal to where Earth had been when they were sent off. With the added benefit of having resources on Kintar that weren't available on Earth, that generation built great cities the capital of which was called Ohio. It didn't stick and by the time Generation 4 came around (approximately 300 years ago, counting Generations every 25 years) the newer (and more advanced city) of Tokyo had become the capital. What happened next was really boring, but people started spreading across the planet and building more and once again humanity became to flourish. Many attempts were made to contact Earth but to this day no such attempt has succeeded. They also set up the official timeline of Kintar - the current year being 418KWL.

This is where the story takes a dramatic turn for the worse. 386KWL is when the Usoba war ship literally warped into the sky over the city Moscow and wrecked it. Not small wrecked, but just blew the fucker off the side of the planet - this is not an exaggeration, there is now a crater in Kintar called the Moscow Dent. The Usoba were the first - in theory - interaction humanity had with life from another world and it was a really, really bad interaction. There's not a whole lot of information as to why this happened, why they attacked or if there are others. Luckily for Generation 15 humanity liked its guns and had prepared for the out come of hostile alien life, and so they were not sent defenseless. Of course the war was going pretty badly until one guy stepped forward and took control of the Armed Forces of Kintar and turned the tide of the war against the Usoba.

Aaron Marx lead humanity to not only come back, but ultimately defeat the Usoba, literally blowing their war ship out of the sky. It was at roughly this point that Aaron became Kintar's very own Hitler, and formed the Kintari Directorate to ensure peace, prosperity and secure the future of the people of Kintar. The Directorate locked the world down and instituted harsh regulations to govern the people, but in many ways this was a welcome change given what Aaron had accomplished and people, being the sheep that they are, flocked to the idea of this sort of leadership. Two things happened when the Usoba were defeated. The first was that alien matter rained down over Kintar and got all up in its atmosphere - and the ramifications of this particular problem wouldn't be discovered for a while yet to come. The second and better for everyone was that the top minds of the newly formed Directorate were able to take the Usoba ship and greatly improve the lives of the citizens. A lot, and I do mean a lot has changed. With the technology of the Usoba in hands of humanity they were catapulted into the future. We're talking holograms, artificial intelligence, cybernetics, the whole nine.

In the year 397KWL the resistance group - labeled terrorist organization by the Directorate - called the Heirs of Kintar is formed and starts taking huge measures to undermine the Kintar Directorate and free people from its tyrannical grasp. The Directorate at this point is pretty much absolute law, and in hopes to establish the world as its own entity - after all, Earth isn't picking up the phone, so fuck them - they abolish the Earth-style names of the world and cut ties to that part of their history. Tokyo, now rebuilt and renamed Emperios sits as the capital of the Directorate - and what an amazing place it is. Now it's a big ol' fuck fest between the Heirs and the Directorate and people are caught in the cross fire all the time. All in all life isn't too bad, but it's certainly an interesting time to be alive!

Did you think we forgot about that first point though? Nope, not at all. That's probably the biggest reason it's an interesting time to be alive. That Usoba matter that rained down on the world? Yea well it spawned a new sub-species of people that are lovingly called Species X003; or more commonly: Freaks, hybrids, oh god not you, what the fuck are you?!, monsters, aliens, and a crowd favorite devil spawn. They prefer the term Outlanders, and among themselves - not that they're a particularly common occurrence - this is considered the "socially acceptable" name for them.

This is where we come in.

My name isn't important right now, but you can call me The Iceman, and you? Well I know all about you. Looking at this rap sheet, looks like you've got a pretty extensive history of being a problem child for... Well everyone. Oh and that stuff that they don't know about, you know your extra super secret stuff? Yea I know about that stuff too. Silly, did you think in this age you could do anything without leaving some kind of foot print? Nope, that's not how it works. Don't worry though, it'll be our little secret. And it also happens to be pretty good, because all of that stuff... And more, I really hope you don't mind escalating... is exactly what I'm looking for.

What the hell you ask? Well you see I'm putting together a little team of people just like you. I mean just like you. Cowboys, outlaws, rogues... Mercs. This is a glorious time to be alive, and with your skills? Well we can have a lot of fun. Oh, I know you're having fun on your own, but trust me, join my little group, my little team of Hellions and you can have a lot more fun. Oh and make loads of money. Maybe do some good too even, who knows. We'll just have to wait and see. Oh, and did I mention that the other Hellions are just like you? Ya, that's right, all of them are Outlanders.

Choice is yours friend. If you don't want in you'll never hear from or see me again, and that's just fine by me. You're going to hear about me though, and you're going to envious... Man I can see the red in your cheeks once you see what we're going to be doing. It'd be your loss, and well ours too I guess a little bit. Have I mentioned with your skills you'd fit right in here? It'd be just like a new home for you, a real home. Because we're family. Not that blood shit, I mean real family. If you want to see more, tap the button on the left and you'll be given a place and a time. Tap the button on the right and I blow up the records of your rap sheet and you get to start over just for hearing me out.

Choice is yours hot shot,

But I'll see you soon.

What is Hellions?

Well it's a lot of things. First it's a game about a group of individuals who are willing, happy, and eager to go to extremes and do extreme things. These are factionless brothers and sisters working together with unique skills and histories to be fucking awesome. Iceman will be a central GM NPC figure who operates the team, covers their tracks and keeps them rolling in things to do. He's their contact point and in some ways the father to this big happy family. Happy might not be the right word, but family is. The Hellions are a group of Outlanders - people who are already pushed out of society because of what they are - who are brought together and can find solace in one another. While this need not be the only family they've ever known, the bonding of this group as they come to rely on one another is a major point of the game.

It's important to know that the Hellions are not heroes, but they are villains either. These are mercanaries who exist outside the law. Before they were Hellions they were something else, someone with an expertise and that's why they were called here. Specialists if you will, all with one thing in common: they like to raise a little hell. This game is exploring people who could be good guys one day, bad guys the next and are ultimately completely out for only themselves and one another.

In Hellions you'll be playing an Outlander, which is neither human or alien but something in between. Creating an Outlander is pretty easy and comes with some really fun perks that make this team especially unique and hard to deal with for both the Heirs and the Directorate.

Outlander Traits
  • Outlanders have only been around for about 25 years, characters may not be older then that.
  • Part of their Usoba altered DNA allows Outlanders to communicate telepathically with one another over great distances. Each Outlander has a unique 'mental frequency' that can be tapped into and form a telepathic bridge for communication and sensory sharing.
  • Additionally all of the Outlanders have a small level of telekinesis. With their minds full grown Outlanders can freely move roughly fifty pounds with their minds, while normal peak capacity is about seventy-five pounds.
  • The most exciting part of the Outlanders is their Alien Mutation. Basically, every Outlander is a mutant and has some kind of supernatural power that is, usually, unique to them. These powers have a wide range and vary dramatically from Outlander to Outlander.

Game Information
  • Who is running this game?
    That would be Wispyr
  • How many players will there be?
At this time I only plan to take five players on this journey with me. That means that this game is not first come first serve and will instead use a brief application process, of which I will select those I feel will be best suited for the game.
  • Who can play?
    Anyone and everyone.
  • What about posting guidelines?
Enough content in each post for players to work with, however we'd like to see a bare minimum of roughly 300 words (3 solid paragraphs) per post. Posts should be written in the third person past tense. The aim of this game is to have a slightly faster posting rate, we would like to see at least one post every three to four days, with an absolute limit of at minimum every seven days.
  • What board will this play in?
Extreme. Please note that this game is very likely to get extreme. The very nature of this game leads the characters to doing some very seriously fucked up shit and far more importantly can lead to having very serious fucked up shit happen too the characters. This includes but is not limited to: serious battle wounds, potential non-con (full blown rape themes), and extremely graphic content. While this game is likely to have a light hearted and fun side, it is just as likely to have an extreme and in your face heavy side. Please keep this in mind. While character death is a possible out come this game does not seek to kill players, however in character actions have in character consequences, please always remember this. Please remember that randomly raping characters and killing them isn't the point of the game the big point here is only that these things could happen not that they will happen. Though graphic themes and content (not sexually speaking) is likely to be a reoccurring and constant theme. Characters are just as likely to end up in brutal assassination scenarios as they are stealthy vault robbing ones.
  • Can I play a bad guy?
Please read the information above and figure it out.
  • Can I play a good guy?
No. Frankly no genuinely good person would fit into the lifestyle the Hellions have selected.
  • Can I play a non-outlander?
No. Part of the games core premise revolves around being an Outlander. Besides who doesn't want telepathy, telekinesis AND a cool power?
  • Where should character applications be submitted?
    In this thread.

How To Apply
There are two easy steps to applying to play in Hellions.

Step 1: Voice interest in this thread.
Step 2: Fill out the application mini sheet.

SURPRISE...

Step 3: Wait for recruitment to close and the choices to be made.

Things that will be looking for in character creation:

Equal(ish) gender/orientation pairings. Unique specialist skill sets (no one is a jack of trades, or if they are they can do anything okay, but aren't nearly great at anything) that will fit well into the team. Unique Mutation ideas. Cool, fun and engaging character concepts. Feel free to go as detailed as you'd like in the concept, so long as in general I can get a feel for the character you are wanting to play - please give me more then the examples, as those are decent but do not paint a solid image.

Sample Applications
Gender: Male.
Orientation: Homosexual.
Concept: Rough and tough brawler type. Probably a bar goer, lots of drunken fighting in his past and in his future. Not great at the going under cover thing, but exceptionally well connected and exactly the guy you want on the front lines. Loud and obnoxious, extremely opinionated.

Specialist Skills: Bare knuckles fighting. If you want someone in close quarters, that face to face, bloody type of engagement, this is your guy.

Mutation: Unbreakable - you can kill him, sure, but it's going to take a lot. His bones are harder then the hardest steel, so doing lasting damage can be a real problem. His heart is, obviously, his biggest weak point and he can still die to normal things that don't involve breaking him. This also gives him an amazing ability to endure blunt force, since his bones literally can't be crushed.

Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual
Concept: She's sly, intoxicatingly so. She likes to know her marks before she takes action. She's in it for the money and the fame (read: notority).

Specialist Skills: Cat burgler. She's great at getting in and out, breaking security systems and being undetected.

Mutation: Pyromancy - When it gets real, she turns up the heat, literally. She's got the ability to generate flames and throw them in various shapes, sizes and intensities.

Sample Character Sheet

-Hellions Character Sheet-
Victor Daniel Archibald III
Iceman

The Handeler

David Rosenberg
Male | Pansexual
College | 29 | European
Blue | 5'10 | 168lbs | Brown

Description
Victor was born into the illustrious Archibald family, a bloodline that was - some say - bought onto the Genesis Ships and kept a strong bloodline because of commands given by the shipís computer. The truth about this isnít much known, but it is known that the Archibalds have been major players on Kintar since the legendary Generation 1 that settled the planet. Before the time of the Kintari Directorate they sat on the council of leadership, and itís in part due to the families support that Aaron Marx was able to forge such a strong presence and get the Directorate going in the first place. Victor should have been the heir to that name, as his father Victor Daniel Archibald II had intended, but little Victor had other plans. Young Victor saw all that his family had to offer and realized that it was a fate worse than death: a boring life. So he took the skills and knowledges his familyís status and wealth afforded him and then he just up and left.

He vanished and changed his name, plunging himself deep underground where he was certain that he would not be found. As the world grew with Usoba technology, he learned and adapted, and found that he was very good with technology in general. That was when the alias, Iceman, was born - and Victor hasnít looked back to his old self since.

David is a guy who has grown to love fun, excitement and breaking the law. He doesnít believe in the Directorate or what it stands for, but he sure as hell doesnít agree with the agenda of the Heirs either. Heís changed himself so much over the years that the look of the Archibald family is gone from him, so that he can freely walk around the city without being recognized. He keeps himself fairly well groomed, but has been known to sport the scruffy look from time to time - typically when heís forgotten to do anything about it because of business. Morals, for him, are a thing that need to change constantly to handle the situation at hand. Sticking with one set always seemed, to him, to be a really bad idea. Victor has exceptional organizational skills as well as very solid logic and reasoning, which make him great at planning for most contingencies.

Of course the last little note that his family never got to learn about, as his mutation didnít present itself until after he had fled them, was the fact that the great and pure Archibald line had been corrupted by him - an Outlander. Just one more way he fucked up his parents plans.

Know For
Six years ago Iceman launched a cyber attack against the Archibald family as well as the Kintari Directorate. The actual amount of money that was taken between the two is unknown as the details were never released - however it became quick knowledge that however much was taken from the Archibald family was enough to crash their entire hold on the Directorate and bring the family to ruin.

Iceman is on the Kintari Directorateís list of most wanted individuals, ranked Number 3 with a bounty of over five million credits for his successful capture - alive or dead, with subsequent rewards of one hundred thousand credits to any individual who provides viable information that results in flushing him out.

Alien Mutation
Victorís mind is almost as advanced as an artificial intelligence. He can process information at incredible speeds and actually record things that he sees, hears, and otherwise experiences and commit them to a seemingly endless memory. An extension of this ability allows him to literally project images from his mindís eye. As he desires he can project holographic like images to display what is in his head.

I've fielded a couple questions about extreme content. There are some people who can't handle non-con on themselves (this being a big thing that people have issues with) but aren't opposed to it being in the game. As a general rule I can work around individual preferences if needed, the key is that you don't need me to remove it from my toolbox, so to speak. This is a very important distinction.

If you're like: "You can't rape my character at all, ever, but I'm open to pretty much anything else" - I can work with this.
If you're like: "You can't use rape or non-con at all in the game what so ever." - I can not work with that.

I'm totally happy to meet writers half way so long as you don't try to totally bind my hands.

Also also: Welcome all new people with interest. :D

Now for my character. The character sheet will likely receive some updates by the time I've approved some people... But this will give everyone an idea of who I am running - and nothing should change much about that, just some things will be added for everyone's sake.

-Hellions Character Sheet-
Mikhail Crowley Sokolov
Eclipse

Frontal Assault

Adam Cowie
Male | Heterosexual
H Standard | 24 | Russian
Brown | 6í2 | 179lbs | Brown

Description
Mikhail was born into what should have been a pretty average life, and if he wasnít an Outlander, it probably would have been just that. Average. Mundane. Luckily - not not, depending on perspective - for him, he was born an Outlander. His early childhood was pretty quiet. He grew up with an average family, in a pretty average city, in a pretty average neighborhood with pretty average everything else. Right until he was in his early teens and his power manifested at school of all things. Some punk kid got in his face, decided to bully Mikhail and he had enough - a cloud of blackness enveloped them and only horrified screams followed. Moments later the darkness receded and Mikhail stood over his broken victim. That was also the moment that he was taken away from his family and imprisoned in a Kintari Directorate research facility; surprise, this turned out to be code for Kintari Directorate prison facility.

In this facility the Directorate had taken in others of the still only just becoming discovered Outlanders and were doing research on them, trying to identify exactly what they were in the first place. They treated them, sort of, like people. They were educated, clothed, and even fed. Which was nice except the part where they were also subjected to pretty awful testing, beatings and stress in the name of science and security. All in all it was a pretty miserable experience. One that Mikhail ended as he entered his young adult life. Heíd been taken in when he was twelve, and by the time he was eighteen heíd pretty much had enough of their shit. During what had become a pretty standard rotation from one place to another, he called up his power, killed the guard and stole his weapon. Sheltered by his darkness Mikhail, along with other freed prisoners, made his way through the facility and ultimately broke out - but only after inflicting terrible vengeance upon his long time captors.

Into the world, with no home that he remembered and all but deleted from society, he had to live a very different way. He became a sell-sword of sorts, offering skills to the highest bidder. Sure the jobs werenít always nice, or the greatest, but they earned him money and gave him a life. It took three years before Mikhail had actually defined himself as a person again. During this time he discovered that he was good at what he was doing, and that he liked it. He also realized that he could take on bigger fish, and upped his game.

Mikhail is a tall guy with a build fitting of his activities - which means heís exceptionally well defined. Muscular might be an overstatement of his form, but certainly on that side of well toned. Heís a man with simple tastes, both in clothing and actions and typically prefers the quickest most no bullshit method of getting things done. Plans that require you to jump through hoops, cut corners and are overly convoluted tend to annoy him - especially if it can be as easy as Ďgo in, get it done, leaveí. Having been shown limited kindness in his life, heís not what anyone would call a kind man, that said he isnít one to go out of his way to be cruel either. Heís not fond of liars, and cheats - people who double cross him do not live to regret it. Heís proven that he has a penchant for surviving bad situations, even if itís not always in the best of shape. Heís a fighter who prefers the up close and personal kill; heís the mercenary who is driven as much by thrill and challenge as he is by profit and opportunity.

Lastly Mikhail is a lost soul with a lot of demons to fight against. His time in the Directorate facility did a serious number to him, and while heís learned to cope and put on a good face, the truth is that heís haunted and tormented by the past - in addition to things that have happened since then. Because of these two things he is fiercely, even savagely, opposed to the Kintari Directorate.

Know For
While Mikhail has performed a number of impressive feats, without a doubt the thing that he is most well known for - both publically and by his enemies - is the escape from the Directorate facility. It happened during a time when the public opinion on Outlanders was just forming and they were being painted by Directorate propaganda was making them out to be monsters. Mikhailís escape and killing of many Directorate officers and scientists was a public affair that only further depicted them as monsters. While his escape has made him a person of extreme interest to the Directorate, and a desperately wanted asset to reclaim, he has not managed to make the most wanted list.

Alien Mutation
Mikhail can exude an inky blackness, the initial burst can instantly cover nearly ten feet in all directions centered on him. After that he can continue to pump the darkness out and cause his black cloud to expand, and with enough time he could fill a theoretically limitless amount of space with it. This darkness is not like night, but rather like the abyss. It is absolute and can not be seen through by normal means, and within the cloud it is almost as if things donít exist - things such as sensory equipment and special versions of sight (night vision, infrared, etc) canít penetrate the outer limits of the cloud. Mikhail, however, is able to see through his cloud as though it werenít there, while gaining other benefits so long as he remains within the confines of the cloud. He is keenly aware of the location and movements of others within the cloud, able to track the slightest tremble of bodies. Further, so long as he remains within the cloud he is considerably stronger and faster then normal. Mikhail can pull all of his blackness back into himself over a few moments, literally absorbing it back into his body - though if he doesnít recall it any blackness left after he leaves the area (such as creating the initial cloud and then moving forward enough that his continued production of the blackness is not connected to the original cloud) rapidly dissipates over roughly one minute.

This makes a lot of sense.

To me, this game looks like it would clearly be in the Extreme board. If I join a game that is going to that board, I know full well that I may encounter absolutely anything that fits into the Extreme categorization. To take it a step further - I assume that the GM may do anything to my character that fits that as well. It doesn't mean I'm expecting to necessarily write it all out, but I also would never really say 'you can't do that to my character'. Using the non-con as an example: I might possibly say that I'd prefer it happen off panel, or I might ask you not to maim my character in a way that fundamentally changes who they are (Sorry Mr Marksman, you're now a triple amputee with vision impairments!).

I suddenly feel like I maybe wrote too much for this concept but. Uh. INTEREST.

Application HEYO
Gender: Female
Orientation: Omnisexual
Concept: Once upon a time there was a sweet princess. Then an army came and burned her kingdom down. It wasn't that the princess didn't want to weep for all that had been lost. It was just that she wanted the army to burn more than she wanted to grieve. So you see the princess became a dragon. The army burned, the world burned, the universe burned. Happy. Ever. After.

Contradictory as fuck, essentially. Most of the time she comes off as sweet and endearing and delicate. She likes pretty clothes, sparkly things, and the color pink. Half the time she can be found singing the kind of things that sound like sugar tastes. All her holodisks are fairytales. Such a princess. Then she engineers a bomb out of spare parts and blows up a half dozen people for the fucking hell of it and suddenly everyone sees the monster on a leash. (Who's holding the leash?) Probably she has some tragic backstory to justify the mass murder sprees. But she doesn't really care about justifying anything to anyone.

Okay, so she's a public menace of the first order. But that doesn't mean she doesn't have her uses. Every good band of mercs needs an engineering and demolitions expert with no pesky moral compass to get in the way, right?

[OOC Note: While it's not strictly necessary, this character could definitely use a "handler" or two. Or four. This doesn't necessarily mean someone more stable than she is or even that they necessarily wanted the job. Just someone who, for whatever reason, she's ride-or-die loyal to. The person holding the aforementioned leash to the monster.]

Specialist Skills: Highly skilled engineer. Can fix just about anything mechanical made in the last fifty or so years. It may take a while, depending on how familiar she is, but she can do it. Demolitions expert. Can build a bomb out of nearly anything.

Mutation: Fire Rebirth - Not your mama's brand of fireproof. True, she actually is fireproof. Flames won't hurt her. But when she's in (or on) fire, she actually heals. Re-energizes. Gets generally more awesome.

This is my application. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Gender: Female
Orientation: Pansexual
Concept: The doctor. An educated, gifted surgeon with a little bit of crazy on the side.

A trained surgeon with a -brief- military past. She's an angelic looking, talking and working girl with a deceptional innocence. Dedicated to her trade, she can make the impossible happen like any good miracle worker. And though first impressions are often far from the truth, at first glance you'd count her among heroes. It's only when you dig a little deeper that there's a bit of an unsettling truth.

The girl carries a curiosity and has a vast imagination, meaning that in her work she'll resort to methods you wouldn't easily find in any medical book. Some would be frowned upon, others could serve to horrify you at first and, perhaps, make you question the legitimacy of her diplomas. True, she does cure, heal and mend her patients, but her true interests lie in the augmentation of people, in making them better than they were before they were injured or fell ill. Unfortunately, most of her patients do not share such enthusiasm, and an inability to find an outlet for her more creative outbursts cause her to resort to less... conventional solutions.

Specialist Skills: Certified Trauma Surgeon. Steady hands, incredible medical knowledge and a genius in their field of expertise. Can handle a ton of pressure, in fact, has a way to focus under the most extreme circumstances.

Mutation:The ability to see and move through solid matter. This includes organic matter, allowing her to see into the body of her patient (and reach inside if need be).

Hope it works!
Gender: Male
Orientation: Homosexual

Concept: Just a boy growing up as the child of single mother who served in the resistance against the Kintar Directorate. Having lost her and still believing in her cause, he grew up in the care of is mother's friend, an uncle figure and lived in the slums of Emperios. Even though he lost his mother, he maintained contact with some members of the resistance and they offered tutelage in some espionage skills. Of course when his powers kicked in, that's when life got super interesting.

A few members of the resistance had been confined to one of the Kintar Directorate's Prison Facilities. He infiltrated the facility and once in, he initiated a system failure for the facility as a reminder that the Directorate's were not all controlling and knowing...and because he was bored of playing along as one of Directorate's piggies. A riot ensued as it allowed his captured resistance members free...along with several hundred criminals. He took his leave among the chaos.

His job was done and he decided to take a break from 'Fighting the Oppressors'. If anything all he wanted was to live life on his own terms. Living comfortably without one fuck to give about the nonsense of wars and dictatorships. Instead he ended up becoming something of a freelance agent able to work for whoever for the right price, primarily as as a thief for hire.

Temperament is pretty laid back, fun and surprisingly upbeat; borderline sociopath displayed with black humor that he enjoys trolling people with by giving disturbing and violent suggestions on how to deal with a situation before actually coming up with a true solution. Has a weakness for frozen drinks and gummy candies. Also has a habit of shapeshifting into important figures and doing bizarre things to stir the pot by causing scandals just for the lulz.

Specialist Skills: Espionage/Escapology; he's able to creep and go undetected. He prides himself in being able to get in and out with little sign left behind he was ever there save for the fact that whatever he's after being missing. Which leads to...

Thievery; A beloved skill of is and there nothing more thrilling than a successful heist. He knows the thieving standards of lock-picking, safe-cracking, evading alarms and cracking safes.

Acrobat/Parkour/Free Running; Life as a thief requires a lot of running and agility since he's almost always hauling ass for his life. He's very nimble and acrobatic, using that to is advantage in combat and making a getaway through complicated environments by climbing, flipping, sprinting and jumping across obstacles in his way.

Tinkerer; He's tech saavy mechanic often building or improving on gadgets to suit his needs. Some of his self improved/made gear include:

Cybershades: a tech set consisting of an earpiece that turns into a pair of shades with a wireless broadband computer network and a wrist watch that provides a holographic iconographic keyboard for language decryption. These shades can be interfaced with any external data network to further aid him in research for when he's on the go. These shades also allow him to view surroundings through various ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum, such as infrared and ultraviolet light.

Grappling Gloves: He also wears gloves that each contain a cable grappling device to scale walls and swing between buildings too far to be reached by sprint-jumping and makes a nice make-shift whip weapon in combat.

Taser Pogs: He also carries self-made taser disks. He's modified them and called them pogs because they often have some silly emblem on it like so as sort of his signature. He uses them to throw out and stun whoever is chasing him to earn himself more time for escape.

Also as basic combat skills and is a pretty decent shot with a hand gun. He wouldn't go around robbing people blind without knowing how to defend himself at least just enough for him to think up a plan of escape. He won't engage in a fight longer than he has to, especially if his opponent is more skilled in martial arts.

Mutation: Imperceptiblility; he'said able to completely mask his presence by rendering himself invisible along with psionically masking his mind, heat signature of, his odor, smell and voice.

To give people an idea of both what a character sheet would look like... and who the Iceman is I've polished up his sheet. There may be some minor edits, but this should all be mostly correct. Will be added to the creation section as well.

For double clarity in case it was missed... Iceman is not my character, but rather a central NPC figure who operates the Hellions and recruited them all. He's the thread that binds them.

Potentially interested, that being said, what kind of roles and tech base are we looking at here?  Generic Cyberpunk where the focus is on being sneaky and precise, or are there options for bringing in the Big Guns?

The sky is the limit. There will be stealth oriented scenes. There will be espionage scenes. There will be blow up the battle cruiser scenes. There will be ground assault scenes. There will be extraction scenes. So... Some of everything at some point. As far as roles I'm open to this and will craft, largely, around the 5 I pick to take. As far as tech goes, pretty high end sci-fi.

This is my application!  Read it and weep!
Gender: Female
Orientation: Pansexual
Concept: She was your everyday kid, not a lot of money, not terribly poor.  A bit of one odd one though.  She loved to torment everyone around her, to pry at them to get information she thought would be interesting.  This grew in her and she took a healthy (read: unhealthy) fascination with torture.  She loved pain, inflicting and having it inflicted upon herself.  A sadist and a masochist rolled into one.  Eventually, her dalliances into her torturing ways were found out, but she was so hard to keep pinned down.

She was caught, imprisoned and after spending a month or so in prison, she just vanished.  A string of deaths followed shortly after her escape.  Mostly those who were involved with her capture.  Some ended up tied to their beds, chests split open, blood splattered everywhere.  Organs cast aside like refuse.  To her, these people were refuse, to be slaughtered and there was nothing they could do to stop her.

She's a tried and true psychopath.  She loves killing, loves pain, loves fucking.  A hedonist to the core, but also.. more.  She has a need to torture, it's her drug of choice.. the screams.. the exquisite agony.

Specialist Skills: Assassination/Torture expert.  Expert blade user (knives, swords, energy blades, you name it she's probably tried it out at least).  Fairly skilled with guns, mostly long arms (ie: sniper rifles).

Mutation: Teleportation.  She can diffuse her individual atoms in one place and reintegrate them at another.  Though, she is limited in that she has to be fairly familiar with the place she is going to.

This is my application. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Gender: Female
Orientation: Open to anything with a heartbeat - and even then she's open for negotiations.
Concept: The doctor. An educated, gifted surgeon with a lovely amount of crazy.

Like any good doctor, she makes the impossible happen and at first sight, she has all the aspects of your true miracle worker. This girl seems a hero in her own right, always there where people get injured, especially when things are particularly bad and gruesome. A bit too dedicated, perhaps, and combine that with a military past where things might have gotten a bit extreme and you have yourself an eccentric genius with a tendency to... augment her patients in a way they don't always anticipate or appreciate (or survive. Hah. Just kidding.). She loves a challenge and the more severe the injury, the happier she'll be to help with an enthusiasm that can be considered a little unsettling to most.  Loves to experiment, loves to improvise, loves to get creative in ways never described in any medical book. Funny enough, they usually work out far better than anyone - sometimes even herself - expected.

Specialist Skills: Certified Trauma Surgeon. Steady hands, incredible medical knowledge and a genius in their field of expertise. Can handle a ton of pressure, in fact, has a way to focus under the most dire circumstances (and I do mean MOST dire).

Mutation:The ability to see and move through solid matter. This includes organic matter, allowing her to see into the body of her patient (and reach inside of need be).

This is my application. Hope it works!
Gender: Male
Orientation: Homosexual

Concept: Just a boy growing up as the child of a couple of Outlanders who discreetly served in the resistance against the Kintar Directorate. Having lost both and still believing in their cause, he grew up in the care of is parent's friend, an uncle figure and lived in the lower working class parts of Emperios near the slums of the capital. He had wealth in is mind; always seemed to be top of his class masquerading as a 'Know-It-All' or genius but discreetly had an advantage over his more 'normal' peers. His uncanny computer skills earned him a spot as IT tech within one of the Kintar Directorate's Prison Facilities. Spending a good year to build credit as an outstanding employee until is agenda was revealed as he initiated a system failure for the facility as a reminder that the Directorate's were not all controlling and knowing...and because he was bored on his lunch break. A riot ensued as it allowed several hundred criminals free and he taking his leave among the chaos. He's been drifting/on the run since.

Temperament is pretty laid back and surprisingly upbeat; borderline sociopath displayed with black humor that he enjoys trolling people with by giving disturbing and violent suggestions on how to deal with a situation before actually coming up with a true solution. Has a weakness for frozen drinks and gummy candies.

Specialist Skills: Strategist/Hacker. Wears a tech set of an earpiece that turns into a pair of holographic shades with a wireless broadband computer network and a wrist watch that provides a holographic iconographic keyboard. These shades can be interfaced with any external data network to further aid him in his hackalation (or so thats what he calls it). Also as basic combat skills and is a pretty decent shot with a hand gun. Can't be all brains, there has to be a tiny bit of brawn for self defense.

Mutation: Cyber Mind; his brain operates in the same manner as an computer giving him unlimited storage capacity and can perform several mental functions at once by assigning a partition of his brain to each task without losing focus on any of them; with the exception of creating his own 'Firewall' as a natural defense to prevent telepathic invasion/mental probing. Much like how Anti-Virus software slows down a computer's functions, his 'Firewall' drains most of his processing power limiting him access to his own memory banks and rendering him as mundane as a normal person's brain.

Otherwise he can specific information with incredible speed and accuracy since everything he experiences is stored as photographic memory and retrieve it immediately without pausing. Also gains enhanced computer perception that enables him to interface with computers and IT networks to manipulate, download and gather information or to sabotage them.

He also has weaknesses that a computer has, making him vulnerable to neural viruses that can spread and wreak havoc on his mind's databanks or can be rendered unconscious and brain-dead by an EMP until his mind is able to reboot. He's able to stay up several days without sleep but eventually he needs to 'shut down' and sleep to refresh his mind. And of course he still needs to eat and poop.

And yes, he as a pressure area that acts as a 'restart' button in his brain where his belly button is should he experience any difficulties in processing data.

Lindrea

That's ok, I was all set for Technomancy, and then saw your Cybermind....

While having a unique power probably increases your chances of being accepted, Wispyr has made it clear this isn't first come first served, so concepts don't have to be altered just because someone has submitted something with a similar power I don't think. Just sayin' (mostly because mine might have something similar to stuff already submitted, too, we'll see).

This is correct. Having a skill set that is close to another doesn't exclude one of those two people - there are factors beyond just that to consider as well.

Good Golly Miss Molly
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual, Demisexual
Concept: The Saboteur. What started out as a young life among gangsters and the world’s lowliest of low lives turned into a vendetta that became a uniquely satisfying career. She had a knack for sabotage and she had absolutely no problem fuckin’ other people’s plans up – Criminals, Big brother, Big brand companies, you name it. So why not get paid to do it?

Specialist Skills: She specializes in all things Sabotage – Stealth, Hacking, Infiltration, Property and Information Destruction, Information Gathering, Recon. She can get in, make a copy of a business’s latest breakthrough, destroy all of the original information and get out without leaving so much as a trace of her. Or she could just leave a bomb, or whatever. The options are limitless - in the long run it fucks over someone.

Mutation: Phantom Clone – She is capable of creating a phantom double of herself, much like astral projection. The phantom can only travel a certain range from her, it can pass through walls, collect visual information but can’t interact with anything and leaves her physical form vulnerable. However, this ability is unique in that when the double has reached its final destination she can either recall it to her instantly or call herself to its position instead.

I'm thinking of this kind of like a Heist team -- but I'm not sure if it'll be more action-y than that. Would a 'face' type character have any place here? Figured holograms could allow for a lot of disguises. If I go for a Face, I was thinking some voice/sound based mutations to go with it.

I would say there is absolutely a place for that type of character. The game will be spread out with a great many different focus'... Quoting myself from earlier...

So there will absolutely be places for a character of that type to shine.

Actually, I'm gonna go ahead and pull my interest. Enjoy all :)

This is multiple applications; we are Legion
Gender: Male
Orientation: Homosexual
Concept: Son of rich parents, he was living the life of a high profile, quasi-celebrity heir. He was a reality star, but his time in the public eye portrayed him as being a hedonist with poor impulse control, a paragon of the dumb, spoiled brat -- and it wasn't entirely incorrect. When it was found out that he was an Outlander, he was cut off from his family and forced out of the public. He originally did everything he could to stay in the spotlight, including chaos, crime, and general showing off of his abilities, but the media only wanted to show Outlanders fail and look silly.

With his old life taken away from him, his tactics for attention became more extreme. It was originally as a way to self destruct, but after so much success, he's grown to love his new life. He's taken to producing his own videos, putting them across social media and pirate channels. Joining up with the Hellions gives him a constant source of adrenaline and always something new to broadcast.

Specialist Skills: The Face: He's always been charming enough to fit into any situation, to get people to give him whatever he wants. Now, an expertise with holographic technology combined with his own Mutation allows him to assume any identity. When he's unable to talk his way in, a base understanding of current security systems allows him to bypass and disrupt them. When violence is the only option, he offers distractions and impact through sonic screams.

Mutation: Acoustikinesis: His vocal cords and lungs are enhanced to allow him to project sounds well beyond the range and force of a typical human. His most common tricks include: mimicking any voice or sound he's heard before; creating 'white noise' to effectively silence ambient or quiet noise; creating high pitched screams that can shatter fragile materials; and creating super sonic screams that can knock away with concussive force, often disorienting living targets as well as blasting them.

*As a note: The idea of Broadcasting intends to be through unofficial channel -- the equivalent of YouTube -- and would be heavily edited to not actually expose who anybody was; unless were all already living under the radar. This whole idea can be scrapped, and could just be my character filming himself -- since his identity is just one of many anyway.

Question, ye who GMs:

Will there be any 'system' in place, be it hidden or visible?   I ask because I was just wondering how realistic proposing a mutation route that would be designed to mainly directly affect an opponent would be?  (IE Something designed to physically or mentally or damage an opponent.  Will there be some hidden or apparent trait like hit points or will power so that any directly-offensive style mutation isn't saying 'yep I can wipe out them alllll!!!!' Any of them.  With a zero fail rate!  Muahaha."  )

This is my application (whee!)
Gender:Male
Orientation: Heterosexual
Concept: Gun Nut Military strategist Survivor.  Let's face it.  there was a war.  A big one.  You can play with your computers and your cybernetics (he's got a few) and all of that crap, but nothing says 'get off my newly-claimed world' like a big fucking gun.  If anyone asked, he'd be in the 'protection' business, but really, he's just waiting for the next war to start.

Specialist Skills:  Making things hurt.  He's a master marksman; if it has a trigger, you're already dead.  Not too bad with other projectiles, like thrown weapons and the like.  A smattering of other training from military protocols; demolitions, survival, entrenchment.  He's also pretty good at reading a situation and coming up with tactical plans.  In essence, he's a soldier.

Mutation: Physics is a bitch.  All that crap about resistance, friction, kinetic and potential energy... you take a little from column a, put the rest in column b... Bullets hit harder, fly faster.  Stop when they suddenly run out of juice and lose to gravity.  People don't stop when they're trying to round a corner.  You know.  All sorts of mayhem.

As general with my games there will be something in place to let this happen. Since you're familiar with it, this game will run a health system very much akin to the one used in Pandemonium - the major exception being that Pand uses a very small "5 tick" system, where this game is more likely to expand it out and use, most likely, a "10 tick" system. So offensive and damaging powers are totally viable. Like wise from Pand there will be a hidden accuracy thing, and some things on the finalized version of the character sheet (like primary weapon / secondary weapon) that allow a character to alter how skilled they are with <something>.

Gathering submissions once more for ease of people looking. Should be giving some feedback on these today at some point.

Cerevan

[/quote]

Dominique

Saphir

Amarlo
Good Golly Miss Molly
Gender: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual, Demisexual
Concept: The Saboteur. What started out as a young life among gangsters and the worldís lowliest of low lives turned into a vendetta that became a uniquely satisfying career. She had a knack for sabotage and she had absolutely no problem fuckiní other peopleís plans up Ė Criminals, Big brother, Big brand companies, you name it. So why not get paid to do it?

Specialist Skills: She specializes in all things Sabotage Ė Stealth, Hacking, Infiltration, Property and Information Destruction, Information Gathering, Recon. She can get in, make a copy of a businessís latest breakthrough, destroy all of the original information and get out without leaving so much as a trace of her. Or she could just leave a bomb, or whatever. The options are limitless - in the long run it fucks over someone.

Mutation: Phantom Clone Ė She is capable of creating a phantom double of herself, much like astral projection. The phantom can only travel a certain range from her, it can pass through walls, collect visual information but canít interact with anything and leaves her physical form vulnerable. However, this ability is unique in that when the double has reached its final destination she can either recall it to her instantly or call herself to its position instead.

Lockepick

Iceman

Wispyr

I'll Have Another!
Gender: Male
Orientation: Homosexual
Concept: The Drunken Assassin. On the surface he looks like a lazy drunk fratboy and sometimes druggy. But in the end it is all a front for a hired killer. He gets into bar fights, sleeps past noon, and is hungover until about 4, but that leaves plenty of time in the evening to get business done, and when it is time for business he is all business. His family was originally Chinese back on Earth but is now simply quite mixed, but one skill they passed down to one Patriarch or Matriarch each generation is the art of killing, and they've been doing it since the first humans arrived on Kintar. Bare hands or minor tools or occasionally poison is the primary choice (though he's not above using blades when necessary), its all easy, so is getting into and out of most anywhere, regardless of the technology used. Eschews most technology though isn't stupid enough to handicap himself and is well versed.
Specialist Skills: Hand to hand, close quarters combat with a side of thrown weapons (Short range fighter, specializing in taking out low to medium armored opponents). Assassination. Infiltration. Interrogation. Drinking nearly anybody under the table.

Mutation: I Know Kung Fu - At heart, his power is simply an internal sort of telekinesis. In practice, he can essentially channel this into the sort of things you'd see in a movie like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Think catching swords in your hands, slicing a bullet in half, climbing up buildings, great leaps and gliding to the ground, striking with extreme force, maintaining traction in impossible conditions, or applying unexplainable weight with only a touch. Examples here and here.

Okay so... For everyone's knowledge Cerevan is unable to join us and has withdrawn interest.

@Dominique: Like what I seee. Doctors are good. Would like some clarity on what she's done that would make her stand out to Iceman. Power looks good, shouldn't be any issues with it. Fairly certain it fits within the general power scope.

@Saphir: If I'm reading that correctly (and I may not be, it's been a long day) he's the child of Outlanders? That's not possible given the timeline. Doesn't change much, but for your reference. Otherwise like the idea. Him doing that on a whim is great fun. You said you may change his mutation? So I'll hold back until I know more.

@Lindrea: Torturer! Yay those! That said, I'm a little curious how you feel she'll fit into the 'family' dynamic that's being built. Doesn't read as if she'll place nice with others. Otherwise, fun concept. Her power may need to be toned in the future, but teleportation in general isn't off the table. Depending on what else we end up in we may just need to wrangle it in.

@Amarlo: We've discussed. Sabotage is great, love the idea. And I made the power... Soooo >.>.

@Lockepick: Hrm. This is an interesting idea, his broadcasting. I'll need to think about how Iceman would handle this, but the concept itself is very neat. Mutation seems solid enough, I doubt it'll require much if any tweaking.

@Arcannyx: An all around soldier type is good. Has a heavy gunner vibe that I did. Going to need to take a look at the mutation - the concept is fine, but depending on the scope of approved mutations it may need to be wrangled in some. Will know in the future.

@Orange: We've also discussed. Mmmm Matrix stuff.

Aside from you seven, there are five others (ish) who have have either displayed interest, or sort of displayed interest that we haven't heard from yet:

AribethAmkiir
Elf
la dame en noir
Erich Norden
Intimate Ink

Recruitment will run until probably mid this week, and then I'll figure out from there. Thanks! Keep the ideas coming.. and questions and ideas. And don't be afraid to modify concepts if something new comes to you.

Mini-Application Sheet: Niall "Eldritch" Khufu
Gender: Male
Orientation: Demi-sexual
Concept:  Being on the outside was, in some ways, what Niall Khufu has always been about.  An actual orphan in a time where most anyone might feel like one, Niall was raised with strict morality and a  fear of offending whatever cruel divine being was beyond mortal chaos.  While in the strange despair of contemporary times, many followers of religion were already lost, the cult-like patron of Niall's orphanage advocated for an approach to the world simple enough: the universe had been abandoned due to sins of exploration, vanity, and indulgence.  Piety was the only way to turn a neglectful Makers head back towards what must have been originally intended to be long after the apocalypse.  Niall was a zealous, fervent, even charismatic follower and pseudo-child of the organization until the day he began manifesting his alien powers.

Niall was cast out from the orphanage's grace, and labeled not only an aberration, but a demon, in their eyes.  After an adjustment period he resumed to speak on the streets, but with a different message entirely:  Abandon morality and order.  Let the Directorate and Heirs of Kintar jerk each-other off mid-combat in search of the moral high-ground.  We were all borne from beasts and it is beasts that we  once again are destined to become.  Niall has now more than made up for his early attempts at trying to "save" the masses, and instead, with the assistance of his mutation, has taken more than his fair share down the path of his personal enlightenment, which often includes depravity... even sometimes insanity.  Tired of the bankroll of a street preacher and occasional low-life criminal, however, he seeks greater money and freedom via the Hellions to put the life of an orphan  behind him.

Specialist Skills: Charisma/Persuasion, Criminal contacts, Intimidation, Stealth, Street Smarts

Mutation: Sanity Manipulation - Depending on the scope and level power in the game, Niall has one (or possibly more) of the following abilities: 1) 'Crowd Control' abilities with a chance to temporarily drain the mental sanity and/or moral resolve of one or more targets, 2) The ability to more permanently weaken the moral resolve and sanity of a single individual, 3) A non-controllable handicap of slowly draining the inner resolve and sanity from non-mutants the more they are around him, 4) An uncontrolled ability to turn some of his victims into obsessed and near-useless muttering/insane 'followers' .

Edit: Fixed some syntax errors that were nagging at my OCD.

I'm thinking she's very very loyal to those that care for her or take her in.  She loves torturing is the idea, but she does it for a purpose and for fun.  Information, any information.  I don't intend for her to play nice with others, except for the family.  She'd need a very good reason to be a part of it all though.

As for the teleportation, it could be short jumps.  A few hundred feet, if that.

My original concept, honestly, was actually gravity.  You make something heavier (and hit harder) by changing how gravity plays on it.  You make gravity have less effect, and suddenly you're leaping tall objects... or worse, not coming down after someone gives them the hadouken from hell.  Plus, you mentioned dragging battlecruisers out of the sky, and I thought 'Gravity sucks on spaceship, bitches!' ... but I thought that it would be less useful in a firearms design, and you had already seen one of my bruisers (albeit very briefly).

Honestly, his powers do not HAVE to match his skill set, and the gravity one might be a bit easier (harder?) to work with.

I am totally willing to play with what does/doesn't get broadcasted -- or dropping that specific notion entirely. It sort of depends how 'under the radar' we are -- or if we're well known. If we're doing some super stealth mission and we're not connected to something in any way -- obviously he wouldn't be like "Haha, that was us!" Think about it like a 'calling card' for the Hellions -- but that depends on whether or not they're too discreet to consider a calling card.

Depends where we fall on the sliding scale of 0-10 where 0 is Shadowrun and 10 is a DC villain.

For current and prospective players

There is some consideration being tossed into opening up an additional 2 slots in this game, taking to the total to seven players, rather then the original five intended. However to go this route we would need to look at the current presented cast and look at some of the overlap we have and see who has alternate character ideas / would be willing to change it up. In this case I would switch over to a female character, who would likely take on a sniper role. Given that of the current 5 male applicants we have

2 social characters
1 hacker w/ a social power

So a couple of points, first I want to make sure that all participants know that the post time will be three to four days - I'll likely keep it at 4 for sake of ease. With that said, what're peoples thoughts on upping 2 more slots? Who has alternate ideas (mostly directed at our male cast members, the girls are all well varied :P). There's definitely room for a social character, or two if their skill sets are widely varied. I'm a little worried about a hacker feeling upstaged by Iceman - though a change to more a tinkerer/on the fly computer guy might not be bad.

We must discuss... The things!

My only thought is that a 4 day turnaround with a 7 day cast might be pretty difficult. I really do like the idea of a 4 day cycle though.

I don't mind opening up to 7.  I also would not hate if it was decided that there were too many people and there wasn't a spot for me; I'm bugging you in DS (twice) and possibly Pande, so it won't be the end of the world if that scenario happens.  Upsetting, sure.  Heartbreaking, no.

I also have no issue dropping out to make things less complicated. I have no problem with adding two people to the slot either, and I agree with Om on the 3-4 day turn over. Maybe it'd be better to make it a solid 5 days then?

If I do expand the player pool, I will likewise increase the cycle time.

My personal vote would be, like Amarlo said, no more than a 5 day cycle, I really like the idea of something a bit fast paced.

A 7 person group has the bonus of where a person dropping out doesn't overly affect the group as a whole and wouldn't really ruin anything.

But a 5 person group keeps things fast and scrappy, and I like the idea of a good paced small group, too.

So really both work for me! I'm leaning slightly towards the smaller/faster group but am totally open.

I'm happy to offer a new idea so that we don't have the overlap of two social based characters (and because I'd rather have an option that includes both Ink and myself anyway) -- especially if there was any question about the broadcasting concept.

I will say that as much as I'd like seven people -- some of the character focuses are pretty broad, and seven people is just going to have overlap. With characters being made independently, it might be tough to not have some pretty heavy overlap. I'm not saying that overlap is necessarily bad, but if you did want specific roles, keeping the five minimum might be best. As much as that likely hurts my chances.

Some overlap is totally expected. For instance we're likely going to operate under the assumption that everyone has basic skills with weapons in general.

That said I'm currently tinkering around with a "trait & proficiency" that I may use to let each character buy what they feel is appropriate for them and set up some very clear differences between the cast. More on this to come a little later.

The things!

My thoughts:

1)  I would be happy to re-gender my character appropriately to a female if it would help.  While I have not written females on Elliquiy, I certainly have a history of writing them, and believe I can do it very respectfully while still taking into account the tone of the game.
2)  I would also be happy to write a more combat-heavy character.  I would be transparent here and say I'd probably be throwing some questions/ideas off our GM despite the general recruiting tone of this game:  As many of you who play with me know, I usually far more often hit close to rogue/mage/healer archetypes in system-esque games, so just would probably be asking for a little guidance/opinions along the way of forming the new sheet.
3) While I would still be all-in if the turn-around was four days, I would, with much love, likely withdraw my application on a 3 day turn-around.  Generally speaking my work shifts come in three's, and they are 12+ hours long.  That's USUALLY not a problem because I have enough downtime to write, but not definitely not always.  3 days vs 4 days is a huge difference for me because writing after that kind of shift sucks, especially when you just left and have to sleep and have another one in ten hours and counting.
4) I have no direct opinion on 5 vs 7 slots.  That strikes me as a meta-decision best left to an orchestrating/GM who can make the call in terms of how many and which characters fit his view of a balanced, cohesive, and competent team for this particular project, both IC and OOC.

I'm unfortunately going to have to withdraw my interest in this. Dealing with my accident and injury I have behind in other games and have not thought of a good character for this. I still it is a very interesting idea and looks like fun, which I hope it is for all those involved. I just won't be able to join you.

I don't mind the roster being upped to 7. More spots means less hopes dashed. It's definitely possible to stay within the 4 day cycle with that many. I have seen games with a higher number making that deadline. Nothing like your RP crew rapid-posting like they're on crack.

Yeah, once I saw Iceman's app and adjusted mine, I planned to have my guy be more oriented with espionage/thievery but I have adjusted his mini app once more to further reflect that. Hopefully using his tech/computer skills for tinkering if that helps him steer a bit more out of the lane of other peeps with hacking skills. I can offer to change his gender too but that's part of his power already anyway so...xD.

What he said!

Also if it means no dedicated and enthusiastic player gets left behind then I'm all for upping it to 7, and I'm absolutely down with a 4/5 day posting cycle, regardless of the size of the group. Maybe shuffle around with the people's assets a little to make them a little more unique and I think we'd be fine ^^

Sillies... I'm leaning towards keeping the original size at this point, with the four day turn around. I worked on an addition to the character sheets to ensure that once created characters have a nice variety and can be clearly defined.

Decided to just stick with my first idea. Couldn't come up with anything that I was as invested in that was going to also overlap an already offered application anyway.

I have an idea in mind that would be the tactical/combat specialist.

Open to either sex at the moment. A change is already in progress to balance things a bit... So if I had to choose something I'd say another straight male would be a welcome addition. Role speaking... Not social. -Chuckles- Uhhh... We've only got one "brain" type character in the doctor, so another in this field might be a good way to go. Honestly, at this stage, really willing to hear whatever appeals to you most. Tactical/combat in this game is always good.

Announcement
After some consideration, hearing what people have had to say, looking at the concepts presented and further looking at the notes I have in store for the future of the game I have decided to do a couple of things.

First, I will be extending the posting cycle to a solid five days. To facilitate this it is unlikely that the mainstory stuff will ever use a firm posting order; if you post and are required for some reason to wait for someone else to post before you (this does come up, sometimes) please be sure to make note of that in OOC - let that player know you're going to be waiting for them so they know to address accordingly.

Second, I have decided to take all nine presented characters. After talking with different individuals I think that I can effectively represent all of them. To facilitate this I'll be swapping my original concept to something else (presented below). My choice to take everyone has to do largely with wanting to ensure there's some balance in the game (for potential pairings) as well as accounting for future game drops. Losing one or two players at 9 doesn't cripple the game in the same way that it does at 6. That said this will also let me run some of the bigger operations I was worried I might not have been able to do. From the characters presented this is the (assumed and idea) positions for each player:

Wispyr: Demolitions
Arcannyx: Frontal Assault
Orange Marmalade: Assassin
Lindrea: Sniper
Dominique: Medic
Saphir: Thief
Lockepick: Social
Amarlo: Sabotuer
Intimate Ink: Disruption

Two threads are currently up. We're going to let the recruitment thread go ahead and die, and transition over to the OOC thread.

[Hellions] Out of Character
[Hellions] Character Sheets

From here you should transition to the OOC thread and use the character sheet template here to write up the full fledged character. Characters should be posted into OOC for approval. Once approved you'll post them up into the character sheet thread. Once all characters are approved the main story threads will go up. Side threads are likely to go up sooner. Character sheet submission cut off is Sunday 8/21, any character not submitted will be expelled from the game.

Building Your Character
To facilitate character creation and a diverse, as well as specialized, cast, each character will need to fill out one of these little charts that will be added onto their character sheet. This will put a scope on the character, and I ask that you be reasonably detailed while filling this out. Because this game focuses on the theme of mercenaries we will be working under the assumption that every character has at least passable knowledge of common weapons - that is any character could pick up a pistol and know how to shoot it - unless specifically otherwise stated; they may not be particularly great with these weapons but they can use them without big hassle (this assumption does not extend to unique/exotic/rare/specialized/non personal weapons - please apply basic logic). Further it's assumed - again, unless otherwise stated - that the characters have built some sort of, at least, basic level of connection network. If you want things beyond 'basic', that is something that would be listed under 'assets', which will be defined a little later. Like both of these, basic skills in 'rogue type' skills are  assumed to be had - but I do mean basic; any of the characters can attempt a pick pocket, for instance, but if you want to be an exceptional pick pocket, you would want to list that as one of your 'assets'. Finally I want to touch on the fact that there will be a very lite system at work for outcome determination, that is used behind the scenes. You'll never be required to interact with it, but some of your choices here will affect it.

First let's talk about weapons (and by extension, armor). Weapons in this game come in four types. Physical, Energy, Thermal and Powered. Each of these have unique traits that should be remembered, and played with, as well as strengths and weaknesses.

  • Physical: Traditional ammo weapons or physical things like knifes. These weapons are limited by normal physical limitations, such as ammo capacity and durability. Physical weapons are very effective against Energized Armor and very ineffective against Heavy Armor.
  • Energy: Energy weapons shoot a plasma like energy, or utilize energy blades. These weapons suffer from recharge cycles, and once their 'clip' is empty they must be allowed a period of rest before they 'reload'. Energy weapons are very effective against Heavy Armor, but ineffective against Energized Armor.
  • Thermal: Thermal weapons use the idea of traditional lasers or super heated filament in blades. Thermal weapons have very limited capacity, but recharge quickly. Thermal weapons are extremely effective against Light Armor, but ineffective against Shields.
  • Powered: Powered weapons use heavy electrical charge to inflict damage, as well as energized blades. Powered weapons have heavy energy needs that must be 'reloaded' frequently. Powered weapons are extremely effective against Shields, and ineffective against Light Armor

Next let's go over the specifics of what you need to fill out:

  • Primary Weapon: The characters favored weapon. Please be specific about the capabilities of this weapon - I need to know the idea of the weapon you have in mind. Be sure to include which type of weapon it is. Characters will deal bonus damage and have a higher accuracy with their primary weapon. Weapons can not alternate between types - you can not have a single gun that fires both Powered and Energy rounds, for instance.
  • Secondary Weapon: As above, with the exception that secondary weapons don't deal additional damage but do benefit from increased accuracy.
  • Specialty: This is what sets your character apart, this is their trade mark skill, this is what they are known for. Again be specific, but keep this fairly narrow and don't let it become a wide scope of skills.
  • Asset: These are the other areas that your character has dedicated time and resources into developing. This could be weapon skills, this could be social skills, this could be knowledge, this could be contacts, ties. Basically anything. Each one is rated above the ones after it, the 'primary asset' is their next biggest strength compared to their specialty, while the 'secondary' isn't as good as the primary, but better then the 'tertiary'.
