I started this before, right before getting an overload of things to do. Never started, I still have ll the ideas waiting to be let out.

I am looking to GM a D&D type game. I'm not really familiar enough with the rules to be strict, but it will be loosely based on 3.5.

Basic starting rules: 7th level and 20000 gp. Stats- 4d6 drop the lowest for each basic stat, one free re-roll for lowest stat. Plus one extra, for reasons to be explained later.

I figured out why things stay in the interest phase so long.
 
I'd say it can be as loose as the players decide. But mostly I mean, I'll be using 3.5 as a basis, but if I mess up or think a particular rule doesn't fit my style, then I'll alter slightly.

I'm willing to say any character will fit, unless someone finds a way to make me regret it.

The plot is a basic quest for magical artifacts. Each artifact will have it's own back story, powers, and guardian. There is no final enemy to face, no reason other then glory to collect them, at least nothing the characters know about. After discovering the first artifact it will revealed to be part of a legendary warrior's equipment, that he was buried in.
-Apparently, I lied. Magical artifacts was the only true thing about this statement.-

Also, if the players are interested in adding a sexual element, I can work it in. Just give an opinion and limits.

I need my books to make the sheet, but expect a Female Pixie/Rogue 3. Since I don't have the books right now I can't check DMG, but isn't 1,400 gold rather low for 7th(I can barely get a decent set of armor for that :p)?

Considering the phrases 'check my book' and 'isn't that too low' I'd have to say you're probably the most familiar with the rules of anyone that has expressed interest. So I will reiterrate, that I plan on rewarding creativity. Make it sound feasible, and I'll go with it.

How about this. One set of average armor, one average weapon [one each ranged and melee], and 1400 to get yourself something fancy.
If this still seems off, go ahead and follow whatever standard you think would work, I'll likely approve.. I only put a price in because I've been confused before when not given a price range.

For lvl 7 by the book yes it is low, but as the DM sead its that amount I am fine by it being that amount.

As I understand the rules of DnD will be mostly used to get away from the small problems that free form games usually develop ware everybody gets awesome at some things and some people becom god :P

Hiya. I had been trying to think of ideas before diving in, but now I have an idea, I'd like to join if there's room. I can make a character sheet quickly.

I would like to play a cute little Mephit girl, using a class invented by Frank & K, "Conduit of the Lower Planes". Basically, she can fly about while Small size, and has a number of spell-like abilities to cast to help her teammates. Would this work?

If it is made part of it, it isn't a major part of the plot. Although it could be.

In the books [DMG]  the starting gold for a 7th level is 19000 gold pieces.     It you want to use that.

Also I did not pick out any magic yet for the character.   Is that based upon approval case by case then.


Here is the magic items I like to add and costs, for approval.

Monks Belt    [Damage and AC bonus is as 5 levels higher as Monk.]  cost 13000 GP,  wt 1 lb

Circlet of Persuasion  [+3  competence bonus to Charisma checks]   cost 4500 GP

DM's discretion, or "Rule Zero" is not absolute(Despite claims to the contrary). 3.5's CR system is linked to the gold chart posted(And you might want to scrub that, Ash- I don't think it's part of the open content). A martial class cannot compete with similar level monsters without appropriate magic gear. If the 1400 gold was enforced, I would have to alter my built to a caster to not have an underpowered character, unless Bob sends us critters that are CR -2.

19,000 gold is not that much. You can't even get a ring of invisibility with it.

Either way, once it was brought to my attention just how low it was, I did say to go ahead and ignore it.

Also- So far everything is reasonable, as I asked.

Far eyes- Go ahead and switch to the 19,000 gold benchmark and get yourself something shiney.

Asherah- Go ahead and pick your magics. So far I haven't said no, what are the cahnces I'll start now.

Everyone- Finish your character before posting anything you left out. Once I start the game I stop being a push over. Unless you make me go 'interesting idea'

A lot of it is open content(http://www.d20srd.org/), but unless you've played an RPG before, it might be a little overwhelming. Lots of number crunching. Feel free to ask those of us who have played whatever questions you have.

I feel we need another character. We had one drop out and one poster that is on a different schedule then the rest. leaving us with two.


And if it might help get a player, your current task would be to activate a portal that would return two naked women to the area you are standing in.

Out of curiosity, are you still at level 7?  I might be interested, and I'm familiar with the system. (I've GMed 3.5 for 6 years now, running an average of 2 games a week.)  I'd also like to find out a bit more about the world before making a decision.

When do you typically post on the game?  I have a potential character concept, but it's based somewhat off the Thrall to Malcanthet prestige class in a Dragon Magazine.  I'd have to hunt down the specific magazine number.  If you don't know, Malcanthet is the Demon Lord of Succubi, Lust, and Trickery.  I can PM you the character history I have if you'd like. (I played the character in a single session a while back.)

That would be spoiling the fun, though, wouldn't it?  I mean, just because my SO is playing the follower of a demon lord with numerous family issues doesn't that her sister has issues!  She was (until her untimely death) just your every day elven royalty.  And just because her story starts "like so many of my friends, my story starts when I died..."

All that being said, Savage Species has guidelines for playing monsters, leveling them up as you go until, at some level, they are a fully developed something.  In this case, she would be a 7th level succubus...er...elf bard!  Elf bard!  I meant to say elf bard!!!

Are you still accepting characters? I'm not the best DnDer, but I'm better now than I was several months ago. I'm thinking about a wizard, perhaps something along the line of Allanon in the Shannara series.

For the sake of time.

I currently have three people in a tomb. One at an inn waiting for the adventure to begin.

I will take the next three people to provide completed character sheets. Current cast has two male and two female characters.

Sexual aspects have so far been limited to PC's. Post a notice here, a character sheet in the ooc thread, and post in the new quest thread. No need to wait for approval. On the chance I don't approve, we'll work out how to fix it.

Question: I want my character to have extra arms.

Now, the easiest way to do that is Aberrant Limbs from DMG2 pg. 158.

There are two problems:
1) These abilities were primarily designed for NPCs. They're allowable by DM's approval, so I'm asking for that.
2) These abilities come with level adjustments. Now, since they were primarily designed for NPCs, the CR adjustment is relatively accurate but the level adjustment is not (which is something they admit). Aberrant Limbs is a +2 level adjustment and quite frankly I think that's too high. To wit: Drow, also a +2 LA, gets spell resistance, increase ability scores, some minor spell-like abilities, free weapon proficiency, and a weakness that is easily overcome by darkened goggles (which have since been printed). Aberrant Limbs give you two extra arms and multiweapon fighting. I would argue that Aberrant Limbs is only a +1 LA.

Now, regardless, I'll probably use LA buying off rules from Unearthed Arcana to buy off the LA with XP, which means that I'm probably going to end 6th or maybe 5th level (spending XP for items as well).

Also: my character concept has a background in a culture that is very high on the use of magic (hence multiple limbs: magic mutation). Before I go creating such a culture in your game world, does such a culture already exist and can you give me some info about it?

We have seven player characters, I feel that is appropriate for the theme.
