Devin is a strange individual. She has a tendency to be a bit scatterbrained, specifically when she's hyper focused on something else. For a long time she thought she wanted to be a musician (trained in violono as well as vocal training) but she eventually discovered that she wants to go into fashion design, specifically lingerie. She holds underwear (which she insists on either calling undergarments
or lingerie) in the highest esteem. All outfits begin with undergarments. In fact Devin goes as far as to plan her outfits undergarments first. She hopes to one day open her own fashion brand that focuses on not just lingerie but high end undergarments for men.
Character Survey - we never understand what is on our noses.001. What type of porn gets your motors revving? (be honest)
Can't really answer this question with my parents sitting on either side of me.002. Do you think being gay is a disease, or do you think people are born gay?
People are born this way.003. What is your earliest memory of being gay/bicurious/straight, if any?
I don't know. I don't prefer any specific gender. I like people. Their gender isn't a deciding factor for me, other things are. Perhaps my first year of college. I was too afraid to branch out in high school. Everybody knew everybody and I didn't really want my family to find out.004. What's your best and worse memory?
Best Memory: Getting into Parsons
Worst Memory: Being forced to go here. Seriously, way to mess up my entire life plan.005. What's the most attractive feature in someone else?
Confidence. Don't confuse this with cockiness but if someone is confident and self assured, that's the sexiest thing in the world.006. What is the best pickup line you've ever heard or said and the worst one?
"You know what material this is?" (points to their shirt) "Date material." Someone said that to me in a Textile Design Exploration class. It was witty and made me laugh.
"You look like trash. May I take you out?" Apparently there's this theory that if you insult a girl and then follow it by some sort of compliment she'll want to go out with you. Personally I think people are taking Barney Stinson way too seriously.007. How do you respond to help of any kind, especially when you never asked for it?
Depends on whether I really need it at the time or my relationship with the person offering it.008.
Pussy Cat or Cock Dog?
Both.009. Are you a vengeful person?
Not really or maybe my brand of vengeance isn't what other people would call vengeance.010. What is your most Bizarre talent?
Perfect pitch. I can recognize any note, replicate it, and name it.011. Did you feel violated taking this survey?
This is the least violating thing of this entire experience.012. Anything else?
History - we need to know where we come from.OVERVIEW:
Devin was born in Chicago but her family moved to the affluent suburb Elmhurst when she was 5 years old. Her mother also began to work at home so she could spend more time with the children. Devin's father is Turkish-American and Muslim but he had never been religious. Her mother is American and had never really been religious either. In fact, they were pretty open minded when it came to raising their children. Neither believed in hitting their children and opted for taking away privileges. They were more strict when it came to academics and the like, especially Devin's mother. Devin had always been musically inclined and her mother wanted her to excel musically. She began vocal lessons at a young age as well as playing the violono. She spent most of her free time training or taking part in other extra-curricular activities. The same could be said for her siblings. She took no issue studying music, in fact she had a passion for it, that was until a family trip to Paris. Devin got lost in a high end department store (Galerie Lafayette
). She eventually wandered into a section of the store that sold high end lingerie. She became entranced by the beautiful fabrics used (i.e. lace) and the intricate embroidery on some of the pieces. That was when Devin's dream of designing lingerie began to take hold.
Even in high school, Devin would take the 40 min train ride to downtown Chicago and blow almost all of her allowance on luxury lingerie. Her friends thought she was crazy but she had always been on the quirky side. Her parents were ensure about this new development but after much pleading and cajoling they began to accept their daughter's ambitions. Her sister liked to tease her and call it a 'fetish'. Her family was genuinely happy when she got into Parsons School of Design. Everything seemed to be going well until Devin made the mistake of getting caught in a compromising situation (not the sort of surprise her parents had, had in mind when they decided to spontaneously visit her).
