Welcome everyone!

We have recently changed this to a free-form game! If you are interested in joining, please feel free to throw a sheet together! Everyone is welcome.

The Justice Heroes

If you have seen Young Justice or the Justice League, those are going to be used as creative inspiration for the story! The world of this game will be set in the DC universe. The Justice League exists, and defend the earth from major threats using the Watchtower (space station) as their base of operations. While the Justice League is very large, operating with 200+ members, it only makes up a fraction of the total number of superheros on earth. Almost every hero in existence wants to become an official Justice League member, but few ever do. The team of player superheros will be a group of young superheros who have just made it to the big time. The Justice League has setup a new base on earth, and filling it with a new team of superheros on their 'trial run' as League members. The team, or potentially teams of Justice Leaguers in training will be assigned specially selected missions that fit their skill level, and current power level.

The team has been named the Justice Heroes. As time goes on, the Justice Heroes will receive more difficult and more high profile missions to defend earth or stop criminal syndicates. I will be constructing a unique Rogue's Gallery of villains which will become reoccurring pain in the asses for the Justice Heroes, as well as utilizing tons of the per-existing villains in the DC universe! Though of course you will not be going up against big names like Lex Luthor, Synestro, Braniac, or Vandal Savage for quite a while. We need to prove ourselves first.

While you can feel free to copy/paste the power set of a pre-existing DC/Marvel hero (or villain) as your power set, all characters must be original characters! Characters can be any age as long as they are older than 18.

The Superpowers

At character creation players will be able to establish their power set. As we complete missions and the major story events of the game, players will be allowed to add 1 new power to their character sheet, or improve existing powers. In this way individual characters will grow more powerful and be able to take on more powerful enemies!

Everyone is going to start off on relatively the same level as far as power is concerned. Obviously some will be better at certain things over others, like a Batman vs. Superman archetype. Please make sure to describe the origin of your powers in your backstory. Whether mutation, gift from the gods, alien, magical item, whatever!

Players will also have the option of selecting “Weaknesses” at character creation. By adopting a weakness for your character you will be allowed to choose more powers than I would normally consider appropriate for a starting level character. Relative to the power of the Weakness. Some Weakness examples would be Superman's vulnerability to Kryptonite, Mr. Freeze's need to always be in sub-zero temperatures, Green Lantern's ring needing to be charged regularly.

Game Structure

We have recently changed this game to be totally free-form! Players will be able to create their own threads and host their own GM-like events. The only rule is that you must make me as the GM aware of any thread after you have created them. You may make them closed for specific scenes, or open for interaction.

Justice Heroes H.Q.

The main base of the Justice Heroes is called “The Cove”. It was constructed by Batman during the early years of the Justice League, and acted as the prototype for what the Watchtower would eventually become. The base actually spans two major facilities. One is a large, hollowed out mountain with several unique facilities oriented towards training and information gathering. The second facility is a underwater base located next to the first, mountain facility. The Cove can support up to 50 heroes, though it has never been used by a team larger than 10.

The Sex

All of the characters work together, so this is inevitable! I am going to handle this mostly by player request when it comes to format. Either we can keep smut scenes strictly in private PM's between players, or in side threads.

The Rules

Here are my main rules

 - Be nice to one another in OOC chat
 - We are all busy. I have a job which requires a lot of my time, though I am usually always available via PM. If you need to step away from the game, or put your character on pause, please just let me know! Real life comes first above everything
 - If you want to start your own side thread, or have an idea for a GM event, please let me know.

Character Sheet

Please PM me or post your character sheet if you are interested.

Code: [Select]
Your Superhero Name

[floatright][/floatright]

Origin Story: How did you become a hero? Were you raised in to it by Justice League parents? How did you get your powers? You can feel free to make any existing DC character one of your parents/mentors. Now that you are a part of the Justice Heroes they are going to take the training wheels off, and will no longer be assisting you except through advice.

Home City: Which city did you fight crime in before joining the Justice Heroes? Gotham? Central City? Metropolis? You can feel free to leave this one blank if you don't have a preference. This will help determine which villain's you've already fought with, and not fought with. Also, which Justice League members may already know you.

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: How your character looks during their days off. How your character looks without their hood/cowl/mask on.

Costume Description: What your characters costume looks like. You are welcome to use concept images of existing DC heroes to support your description. Just note the subtle differences, if any.

Personality: This one is pretty obvious

Powers/Weapons: This is where I would like you to describe your powers and/or weapons that your character uses! Please provide as much detail as you think is necessary. Also, remember that your character (while not an amateur) is not a veteran hero. I recommend giving yourself room to grow in your power capabilities so that we can RP them out in game.

Weakness: From my explanation later in the recruitment thread - "Something that negates your powers is a Weakness, or something that is "Super Effective" Pokemon style on you is a Weakness. For instance RedPhoenix's character sheet states that she is weak against Cold attacks, which means she would be at a large disadvantage anytime she fights a person of equal power to her with Cold type powers"

I'm totally game! I'm going to claim a Zatanna styled character that is related to the Wayne family, if that's alright.

Really excited for this!

Offline Red LobsterTopic starter

Thanks for your interest Rel! Excited to see your character

Offline Deathnote

AAARRRGGGHHH!!!  I really wanna join this one, but I don't know if I can handle one more game... >_<

I even have a character that might be a good fit.  >_>

Offline Red LobsterTopic starter

@Deathnote, you can always make your sheet and decide later!

@RedPhoenix, great to hear Red! I've always wanted to have a reason to start going by Lobster instead, haha

Offline Red LobsterTopic starter

So my concept began as "Poison Ivy, but with Snakes" and ended up as "Hippie Medusa Spiderman." :)

That's awesome! Reminds me of those pictures where they are like "What I thought I was" - "What I ended up playing" - "What the group saw"

Approved Red!

Offline indarkestknight

Posting to express tentative interest. Biggest hurdle at the moment is that I don't have a strong sense of what kind of OC I'd like to conjure for this.

Offline Rel Mayer

Total props to RedPhoenix for coming up with such an original OC! Love it!

I have to admit mine is pretty much a copy of Zatanna, but here is she!

The Charmer
Zoe Wayne

Origin Story:

Almost everyone who was anyone knew that Zoe was going to be a hero the second she was born. Not because she showed off any sort of magical power, but because of the family she came from. While the family wasn't known for publicly displaying their affairs to the Justice League or to the public, Zoe still received a bit of fame as a child. It came to no wonder that, after her mother mysteriously died in a train accident by an attack by a few escaped prisoners from Arkham, she quickly went to a school at a very young age to foster her talents. Zoe always excelled at the education part of her class, an excellent combat fighter and she was known for almost living up to the genius and talent of her father.

But she couldn't help but feel like she was always living in the shadow of the bat.

Zoe knew very little about her mother, so when she was sixteen and began developing a very particular set of powers and people began to raise their eyebrows. There is little information on who Zoe's mother actually is, but there is a suspicion that she may be related to Zatanna. The dark hair, the piercing blue eyes and the uncanny ability to make small animals appear and disappear! With what began as her summoning a pet rabbit to keep her occupied through the lonely day at Private School (Bugsy--a favorite animal that she's known to speak to) it manifested into Zoe becoming one of the stronger heroes in her class with her uncanny use of magic, and for one of the first times Zoe felt like she had a direction!

No longer would she have to live under her father's shadow, and she could manifest into her own mark into victorious heroism with the Justice Heroes. She quickly moved back to Gotham after graduating and she begged, pleaded, and did everything she did to prove to Batman that she was worthy enough to at least help with the Justice League in any way. Zoe was thrilled beyond measure when the Justice League invited her to join the Justice Heroes, and she comes off as something of a star struck fangirl. Some may call it nepotism, but Zoe brushes it off of her shoulder, confident that she is more than capable of proving herself alongside her friends and teammates.

Home City: Gotham

Batman - Father (Open for Connections!)

Civilian Appearance/Style Description:

Zoe doesn't the most mysterious costume, because it shows off her face, thighs, the curvy swell of her breast and ass. When she's not in a traditional magician's outfit with either a black cape or a black tailcoat jacket--she wears normal civilian clothes. Zoe is also rather rich (considering she's part of the Wayne family) and will often dress in the latest and greatest fashionable items from the very luxury brand fashion designers--that tailor it to fit her and enhance the natural gifts of curves.

"What!? Just because I am doing good in the world doesn't mean that I can't look fucking hot while I do it!" she often says with a coy wink and a confident smile when people make comments about her outfits.

Zoe also has a white bunny that she often brings with her everywhere. Those who are close to her know that she can somehow speak to her pet rabbit, Bugsy, (magical experiment gone wrong while in school), and that he's a snarky motherfucker.

Costume Description:

Zoe is going to have a very similar outfit to Zatanna. She wears the high heels black shoes, the tight black fishnets, and usually a black thong that slips in-between the swell of her toned ass cheeks. She likes wearing a tight white corset and a tailcoat when she's casually fighting crime around cities, but when she's feeling particularly serious (and less sexual) she will dress herself in a tight black and white outfit with a black cape. Of course a slit to show off her cleavage (because she's rather vain about her looks), and long black boots rather than heels. Zoe doesn't always wear a black top-hat, but sometimes she brings it along for fun.

One thing that she almost always carries is a large black bag that holds far too much that even her magic struggles to keep it contained.

Personality:

Zoe in positive, bubbly, confident and vain. She's the one that often enjoys supporting leader roles and working the extra hours to make sure things get done correctly. Never one to rush anything out, because she likes to savor the moment. At the same time, although she's cocky and confident, she truly believes in her teammates and works hard to make sure they're safe. At the same time, Zoe is able to make the tough decisions when it comes to the greater good.

The only issue with Zoe is that she is rather vain and particular about organization. She gets easily flustered when someone messes up their paperwork or gets too much blood on her favorite outfits that dry cleaners just can't get out. Those are the times that she loses her temper, and the positive persona that she displays. Zoe is also rather flirtatious and seductive, but she often uses it for distraction to enemies or privately depending on who is involved. She can't help that she's a flirt to males and females!

Powers/Weapons:

The Summoning and Disappearing Act: Zoe can make this appear and re-appear out of many different outlets. She often likes using other people's hats (or her big black bag), but she can also pull it out of pretty much anywhere. All she has to do is snap her fingers, wiggle her nose, or clap her hands together to make things appear or disappear. She can't do this with humans though, because she has not mastered it yet.

Magic Wand/Cane - Zoe has a magic wand which she uses to channel her magical abilities. While she is not unable to cast magic without it, the device amplifies her spells dramatically! She's been known to use it as a offensive weapon and defensive weapon. Summoning constructs to ensare, bludgeon, or otherwise beat up the bad guys! Usually she fashions it into a cane, because she believes they're coming back in style.

Exploding Kittens Cards - Pretty much says it all. Zoe can throw cards and make them explode using a sort of fire magic.

Magic Spellbook - Hidden somewhere in the black bag, she often uses this to either summon very heavy and intense magical spells or to discover new spells! Zoe is unsure of how new spells appear, but they come every so often (which is why she keeps the book with her so much).

Weakness:

Fresh Meat - Zoe lacks the years under her belt that most Justice Heroes may already have.

"Oh, it's that girl." - While this may seem like an advantage, Zoe has a bit of fame so can't mysteriously hide and disappear. She runs the risk of revealing who she is everyday, since she's an unmasked hero who is open about her real life identity.

Fashionista - She's obsessed with her clothing and costumes, and can get distracted if her outfit doesn't look exactly the way she wants it to!

Need More Mana - While Zoe has a huge arsenal of spells and weapons to pick from, she can't overuse her abilities and cast strong spells consecutively yet. It also takes her a few tries to master a new spell, so she runs the risk of a dark magical spell going horribly wrong.

Flavor Image? How about a few!

I guess I'll throw my hat into the ring...

Hex
Jennifer Hex

Origin Story: Jennifer is a direct descendant of the legendary Old Western bounty hunter Jonah Hex and his wife Tall Bird. Growing up in Wyoming she heard many stories about her famous ancestor and his contemporaries. She tried to emulate them as best she could, learning to ride a horse, shoot a gun, and survive in the outdoors at an early age. Then when she was thirteen Jennifer started having vision problems and brief blackouts. Doctors were unable to find a cause but eventually these problems stopped. What Jennifer didn't let anyone know is that she could now see eight seconds into the future. The most likely cause was that Jonah Hex's encounters with time travelers and his own extended stay in a post-apocalyptic future had created a temporal instability that manifested with Jennifer. At sixteen, an age when most might take a job flipping burgers, Jennifer decided to become a bounty hunter. Since there wasn't much action in Wyoming, she decided relocated to Seattle since it didn't have a resident hero after Green Arrow went back to Star City. Jennifer proved quite capable at catching bad guys there for about a year. Then some Justice League members decided to investigate her. Discovering a seventeen year old runaway was traipsing around Seattle with guns, they were about  to send her back to Wyoming when she told them about her powers. Realizing her potential, the League offered Jennifer a place in the Justice Heroes in hopes that she can be guided toward a more socially acceptable methodology.

Home City: Jennifer is originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming. However, her short solo career took place in Seattle, Washington. Unknown to her, this is also where Jonah Hex lived when he was taken out of his own time.

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: A slim and fit young lady, Jennifer has lightly tanned skin and brown hair that she dyes blonde to emulate the legendary ancestor. She prefers wearing jeans and a t-shirt when not adventuring.

Costume Description: Hex's costume is a studded black leather bikini along with some matching chaps. She sometimes wears a cowboy hat but it tends to fall off when the action starts.

Personality: A tough talking stick of dynamite, Hex fights hard and parties hard. She has a strong anti-authority streak that is tempered by an equally strong sense of honor. While not bloodthirsty, she has no problem with the idea of putting down an enemy permanently if need be. Jennifer possesses just about every vice known to man and is proud of it. She's up for trying anything once, twice if she was drunk and/or stoned the first time.

Powers/Weapons: Hex utilizes various Western themed weapons. The League seems to frown on Colt revolvers and Bowie knives, so she is more likely to opt for lassos and whips while with the Justice Heroes. Her current powers is the ability to see eight seconds into the future, allowing her to be warned of danger and predict where enemies will be. Hex can also see eight seconds into the past but this ability isn't quite as useful unless she thinks she missed something. She has the potential to develop other time-related abilities.

Weakness: The biggest problem Hex has is overconfidence. She thinks knowing when trouble is coming means that she can handle it on her own. While she isn't aware of it at this time, whatever temporal abilities she develops will always be limited to eight seconds into the past or future.

Atmosphere
Isaac Baric

Origin Story:
Isaac Baric is a researcher and scientist at the University of South Carolina, working in the field of marine studies. His studies of ocean currents lead him stumble upon unusual fluctuations in the streams, and further investigation lead to Isaac discovering a ploy by the aquatic villain Dagon, who was trying to alter the flow of underwater streams in order to devastate Atlantis. At personal risk, Isaac took a research submarine down to Atlantis and pleaded for a meeting with the king of Atlantis, his research data convincing Aquaman to investigate the matter.

The Atlantean army led by Aquaman quickly located Dagon and defeated him, and as a token of gratitude from the king, Isaac was granted a medallion allowing him to breathe underwater and survive immense pressures. However, having discovered in himself a desire to aid others and not merely studying things in a laboratory, Isaac humbly asked for another request, and after some consideration Aquaman granted the scientist a minor treasure from Atlantis' vaults, the bracers of Atom.

Home City: Columbia SC, Atlantis

- Known acquaintance of Aquaman

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Isaac is a known researcher and opts not to wear a mask when donning his alter-ego of Atmosphere. Instead, when in his civilian life as a scientist he is usually seen wearing jeans, shirts and sneakers, or diving gear. He has short, dark hair, blue eyes and a dark goatee.

Costume Description: Atmosphere wears a tight-fitting, turquoise wet-suit covering his torso and legs, as well as pieces of navy-blue Atlantean armour on his legs, groin as well as worn as a vest. The most important aspects of his costume are two metal bracers on his wrists, one orange and one red, as well as a golden medallion. The golden medallion grants him the power to breathe underwater and brave the immense pressure of the deep sea, while the two bracers allow him to manipulate gravity and atmospheric pressure. The medallion and the bracers are both gifts granted to him from Aquaman, as a token of gratitude for the work done to aid Atlantis and further respect and understanding between the Atlanteans and the surface world.

Personality: An educated man and a scientist, Isaac is calm and analytic in most situations, rarely letting himself get stressed by things happening around him. A compassionate soul despite the limitations of his powers and his own vulnerability, Isaac won't hesitate to help others in need, even when it would put him in danger.

Powers/Weapons: Atmosphere has the ability to manipulate atmospheric mass density, in other words to alter the way the Earth's atmosphere affects objects and living beings in his immediate vicinity. The bracers he wears confers him the ability to either increase or decrease the density or weight of an object. Using his thoughts as a conduit, he can will the bracers into affecting things around him. Using the right-hand bracer will decrease the atmosphere's pressure upon an object, making it lighter, while using the left-hand bracer will increase the pressure, thereby making something heavier.

Weakness:
- Only human: Even with his powers, Isaac is still merely a human being. He does not have amazing healing powers or super strength, and though he can affect himself somewhat with his powers, his body is still vulnerable to excessive forces just like any other normal person. For instance, he could decrease his own weight to jump higher, but he would still be relying on the limitations of an average human muscle mass. Likewise, he could drop from a three-storey building and use the decreased weight of his own body to lessen the impact, but he could still hurt himself falling from such a height.
- Earthbound: As his powers rely on the Earth's atmosphere, Isaac is at a disadvantage anywhere else. He could conceivably be able to use his powers on other planets, but he would need time to get accustomed to a foreign atmosphere before he could begin to manipulate it. Needless to say, he is absolutely useless in space, where the vacuum renders his powers impotent.

I'm interested what with my recent resurgent interest in the Young Justice style world.

Any ideas/list of what we have power-wise so we know what gaps to fill? (Scratch that.)

RedPhoenix - Snake Scientist Hippie (Medusa Based Powers, sans turning you to stone literally)
Rel Mayer - Wayne Heir (Magic Based Power)
Foxy Oni - Confident Heroine (Time Based Power)
Norwegian One - Scientist Weather Man (Weather/Atmosphere Based Powers)

So that gives ya 3 ladies and 1 guy and a basic idea of powers. Hope that helps other people too! Didn't add the ones who noted interest just because it was easier to focus on the done ones. I can edit this as more come in if people want.

That said I'm aiming to throw my hat in the ring. Thinking something along the lines of a fighting based Taskmaster/Deathstroke style or a tech based hero. I'll figure him out before the end of the day I think.

Thanks Red Lobster :) At its most basic, his power increases or decreases the effective density of mass in the target object or creature, making them more or less susceptible to the gravity of planet Earth. In the beginning, he will not be able to change the density by much, thus he won't be able to change the weight of an object by much. So, I guess he will start off as a kind of buff/debuff character, hampering opponents and aiding allies. For example, he could make an enemy or their weapon heavier, making it harder for them to fight effectively, or lighten an ally, making them less constrained by gravity, enabling them to move faster, jump higher, etc.

Eventually, his powers might develop, though, to where he could potentially make things weightless or crush them to the ground with gravity :)

Nice goatee, NO. ;P I wonder where you got that inspiration from.

Potential interest as a speedster, I don't follow the comics but I watch the show The Flash and that is about all the knowledge (besides some Batman stuff) about the DC universe.

Since I most likely have no way to be the son of the Joker, cuz evil and all.  XD

Offline Red LobsterTopic starter

Sounds great Aiden! Fair warning I may be playing a Speedster as well

Offline Aiden

I like the idea of playing the new guy or at least recently discovering said powers. Unless that is what you are considering for your guy. Since I have the least amount of DC knowledge (assuming I am the newb), I will ease into it. I got mad Wiki powers through and already looking up what is possible with the speed force.

If it is plausible, character with some minor charges for petty theft, hustling and pick pocketing then gets powers. Then is given the option, jail or join the JLA (YJLA?).

(I admit I am a big fan of Captain Cold in that show Legends of Tomorrow, so I kinda want both. Flash Powers + Snark personality)

(I admit I am a big fan of Captain Cold in that show Legends of Tomorrow, so I kinda want both. Flash Powers + Snark personality)

That show doubles down so emphatically and unapologetically on typical comic book dialogue...while some might think it's stupid, I think it's unflinching commitment to simplicity is marvellous.

Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold is killing it.  Yeah...it's comical but fuck me if I'm not enjoying it.

I am tentatively interested in this because of all the faces I adore that are already here.

And superhero rp.... Weakness! *falls over*

I've got an idea, I just need to bend it to fit here.

Edit: I tossed you a PM with the idea, Lobster. <3

(I am also a DC newb. Luckily, Red has been really awesome about educating me on simple things I should probably know.)

This idea sounds awesome! I think that there is always a fun dynamic with a character forced to do "good" work for a community in hopes that he will eventually follow the good guys, rather than the bad guys.

(Also, gives me an excuse to have yet another character to betray your character with, if he ever does anything wrong. Since Zoe is a do-gooder.) -whistles- -innocent face-

Okay, so, I've settled on a character concept! Scarab, son (maybe grandson?) of the very first Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett, sought out by... a rogue reach scarab from Earth-2. Wait, no, Earth-3. Wait, no, antimatter universe. Wait – ... you know what? Basically, whatever we're calling the Earth the Crime Syndicate comes from!

So!

Question for everyone, in terms of appearance. Which do you prefer? [1] [2]

What about the Red Beetle ?

Or even the Silver Scarab?

I like the do-gooder/ne'er do well/heeyyyy man just chill dynamic that Zoe/Aiden's Boy/Autumn might have going....:)

This is all I can think of:

I like full images, personally, that show off the suit and everything! You could always have him with a back-up suit that's different too, give him a bit of option of what to switch in-between. :)

I like the first. It's more super-hero-y and less like Jamie Reyes and Venom had a baby.

Offline indarkestknight

If I go red, it'll definitely be 'Scarlet Scarab', not 'Red Beetle'.  :P I'm vetoing Silver Scarab, but either the image you linked or this one are on the table, if anyone strongly prefers red to black, but personally I'm leaning more toward black.

How would you all feel about me throwing my hat in as a multiform character based on mythological creatures.  So he could transform into a minotaur, cyclops, merman ect ect?

So here's my idea for a guy, let me know what everyone thinks of him.

Echo
Eric Alsbright

Origin Story: Eric was born to the illustrious Alsbright family that had gone from near rags to riches with a blend of criminal activity and savvy business in the city of Gotham. Being raised by parents who wore the mask of kindness to hide their ruthless tactics was taxing to say the least. He was given all of the best tutors that money could feasibly buy for them. Mercenaries were hired both to guard their interests and to teach Eric how to fight and handle situations. Perhaps the greatest of these mentors was Deathstroke himself. Eric quickly took to the man's harsh but effective teaching methods. Faster than was even expected as a matter of fact. This was, as they later discovered, that Eric was in fact superhuman.

This gift led him to learn incredibly fast and surpass most of his tutors in no time flat. He spent a fair bit of time as Deathstroke's protege as he did various missions for the family. This led him to walk the streets under a pseudonym, Titan, as he fought the various other gangs who tried to encroach on family territory as well as taking care of some more vicious missions. He minimized actual deaths but he saw the value in sending a message with occasionally rough methods. A broken leg today might save a few lives the next. This time gave him both practical experience and his pragmatic view of the world. Before going to finish his schooling he was given a single parting gift from his parents. A version of the serum that had made Deathstroke stronger, faster, and more durable.

His other life was lived in a rather illustrious private school where he learned all of his practical skills. While his natural talent for learning was potent he was still not as gifted with traditional learning as he was with more physical training. It was in the Academy he met his greatest academic rival. Zoe Wayne, daughter of the man that had caused his family such trouble even if he didn't know it, was a constant thorn in his side though sometimes it wasn't so bad. They had a long standing rivalry over grades and extracurricular activities. However they lost touch when they both graduated.

Instead of moving to Gotham he took up residence elsewhere to learn from anyone and anything he can. He discovered that he didn't long for the life of crime his parents had offered him. Instead he decided that someone needed to step up and keep the streets clean like Batman had for Gotham. So he took up the mantle of Echo. The streets of his city became much cleaner and, eventually, his work was noticed on a greater scale. He was offered a position in the newest division of the Justice League. Echo decided to take them up on the offer.

Home City: Gotham

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Generally speaking when he's not fighting crime he wears mostly clothes that mark him as well off with collared shirts and khaki pants being the typical attire. He's been known to wear a simple shirt and jeans but only when he expects to be doing some sort of heavy work like moving or is otherwise completely relaxed and at ease. Usually a well made black jacket isn't too far from him at any given time either.

While some focus on appearance he's never given it much mind and he vaguely follows modern fashion trends more out of habit from his parents constant urging for him to look his best rather than out of any personal desire to be fashionable. He does, however, keep a single ring on his hand inset with an emerald stone given to him from his mother in one of her nicer spells.

Costume Description: Echo's armor looks remarkably similar to what Deathstroke wears if not in durability and strength then certainly in design. While he took upon himself to technologically enhance some of the armors abilities it still isn't made of promethium. The silver eyes, instead of Deathstroke's single red, is a set of lens that provides him with a HUD that can tap into nearby networks to provide security footage, hack some networks, and provide useful scans like infrared viewing to find heat signatures. His trusted sword sits on his back and that is actually made of promethium like Deathstroke's though it took a great deal of persuasion to get his hands on it.

Personality: Eric is a confident and collected individual. Trained by one of the best he is capable of remaining levelheaded in most scenarios when others might crack. He carries himself with purpose and speaks with a tone that demands at least a level of respect. That said he does not particularly enjoy being the leader though he is capable of doing so. He was used to working alone and while he has no issues working with a team it is still an adjustment that he is in the process of making. In a casual setting he is certainly more friendly and, perhaps, surprisingly jovial for a man who spent his young life watching crime and horrible acts flourish his parents empire.

Powers/Weapons:

-Photographic Reflexes/Eidetic Memory: Eric is capable of duplicating any physical action of which he is capable after seeing it only once or twice. His ability to read his foes in combat is nothing to scoff at making him a difficult foe to fight in hand to hand or even gun based combat. His memory also allows him to recall small details even after seeing it only in passing should the urge arise. Combined this has allowed him to not only excel in his education but also allowed him to nigh on master a high number of martial arts in short order.

-Deathstroke Serum: Eric was given a similar, albeit weaker, version of the serum that enhanced Deathstroke into the man he is. This serum grants Eric slight super strength, enhanced agility and speed, as well as allowing him to process information at an even more rapid pace than before. On top of that he has a healing factor that can regenerate whole limbs though doing so requires time and generally isn't suited to mid-battle limb recovery.

-Promethium Sword (and his collection of other weapons): This blade is incredibly sharp and made of a metal that doesn't shatter unless Superman starts getting involved. That said, it's still just a long sword that's really good at cutting and not breaking. Besides the sword he has a decently sized armory of guns, blades, and other weapons he's practiced with.

-Technological Mind: By virtue of his Eidetic Memory and enhanced mental acuity from the Serum Eric has gained a certain level of tech knowledge that allows him to craft gadgets give the time and resources. He's no Wayne R&D technician but he can make quite a few helpful gadgets himself like his armor's HUD, tracking chips, and other little things.

Weakness:

-Serum Side Effects: Much like Deathstroke the serum does activate some of the more unpleasant sides of the mind. In times of great duress and/or physical pain Eric will slip into a berserker rage that allows him no room to think only to attack.

-Fundamentally Human: Even with his mind, skill, and serum he's mostly just a man. If some truly powered individual with super strength hits him he's probably going to be in a bad place. He relies on his mind to try and overcome threats but can be easily overpowered.

-Criminal Past: Eric isn't exactly proud of where he has come from. He still remembers pulling jobs with Deathstroke where people died and he did nothing to stop it. He helped his parents reach the height of crime that they have without a word. He still hasn't made a move to topple their empire though he knows he should. Bringing this up either results in shame, if a friend or ally mentions it, or rage, if a foe repeatedly attacks him on it.

-Magic: Eric doesn't know the first thing about magic or how it works. His mind is wired to understand the entirely logical and, as of yet, he has had no real connection to magic. With that in mind he finds it difficult to think tactically in situations in which magic is involved.

And, I'd like to throw my modified OC hat into the ring!

The Samaritan
Avery Laine

Origin Story:
Avery Laine is a bit of a relic, existing in a time before the Justice League, when superheroes were beginning to come into their own and making an impact on the worlds around them. If you ask her: she’s not a hero, she’s just doing her duty, sir or ma’m. As a teenager, her mutant power, control over an organism's lifeforce on touch, manifested when she drained the remaining lifeforce of her date after a horrendous car crash. From there, Avery pushed herself in the military and became a medic during the Vietnam War. She used her power and her limited knowledge of how it worked to help ease the passing of wounded soldiers into the next world, eventually earning the nickname Samaritan, given to her by a dying member of her unit. After the United States withdrew from the war in Vietnam, Avery was assigned duty at the Walter Reed Medical Center where she performed well as a trauma surgeon and was invited to be one of the first women to graduate from OCS – which she did, at the top of her class.

Hounded by an unknown organization looking to collect Metahumans and Mutants, Avery reached out to Metropolis’ resident superhero for help exploring the potentials of her powers. Unsure what to do with the ageless Mutant, Superman dog-eared her for the project that would be pulling together a team of young heroes and spoke with the president on her behalf to make sure she would be able to step away from her military service when superhero service called – this outed her as Mutant, but one clearly protected by some big names, and so she was allowed to continue serving.

Home City: Buffalo, New York

Civilian Appearance/Style Description:

Height: 5'9"
Hair: Blonde, curly hair – when in uniform, back in regulation bun.
Eyes: Large, rounded – blue eyes (Avery also wears glasses both on and off duty).
Detailed Physical Description: Avery is 5’9” and 140 lbs of lean and particularly curvy muscle. Her skin is an even shade of white, or tan, depending where she’s been deployed lately and her skin is uncharacteristically freckle-free – which is very odd, given her Irish heritage. She keeps her hair long and curly, letting it down as soon as she hits the door to her off-base apartment, but keeps it tight when in uniform. She has long, toned legs that speak to numberless hours standing at a surgery table, and indicates that she takes care of herself. Her midsection is nothing to note, aside from the scarring left from shrapnel insertion from a grenade thrown outside of a medical tent that she was working in. Avery’s chest is modestly-sized, fitting with her frame, and is not often on direct display.
Typical Clothing: Since Avery is active duty military, her dress code tends to be very drab. When deployed, she spends her off-time in camos and green t-shirts. When stateside, her wardrobe varies wildly when she isn’t on-duty.

Costume Description:
While on a 48 hour pass, Avery ventured into Paris, France, with her brother, and commissioned a white, sleeveless dress to be made. The dress goes down to her knees and is trimmed with dulled gold frill. She leaves her hair down and slides a white half-mask over her face to hide her identity. White gloves cover her hands, but leave her fingertips exposed, so that she is able to employ her special mutation. She wears white boots and stockings to complete.

Personality: Despite her age, and good luck getting her to tell you how old she really is without the help of alcohol, and the terrible things she has seen the world be capable of, Avery believes that there is good still in it. Over all, she is an even, affectionate, and patient person who is always willing to listen to someone's problems - it's part of the wonderful bedside manner she's worked up during her tenure at Walter Reed. On the battlefield, she tends to be the one who remains calm and cool, focused on the mission and how best to execute it with the minimum amount of damage being done on all sides.

Powers/Weapons:

Trained Weapons: M16A4 (Expert Qualification), M11 (Sharpshooter Qualification)

Mutation Effects:As far as Avery has been able to tell, when she touches an organic lifeform, she is able to pull the lifeforce from them - initially, she had no control over this and would find reasons to constantly wear gloves. As the years passed, she has learned that it feels more like tugging on a string and she can choose to tug if she wants to. That being said, the only thing she has been able to note as side effects is that she appears to be permanently twenty-four and that the lifeforce of one organism can be used to heal another.

The use of her power to heal other life forms is seen in the presence of her cat, Kibbles, a Tuxedo-patterned cat that Avery adopted when she was stationed stateside and has been her companion since. She hopes that The Cove is cat proof - where she goes, so goes Kibbles.

Weaknesses:
The Healer: Avery helps people – since the accident in 1954, Avery believes that it is her job to help people. It is her single, most-defining weakness and strength – she does not see battle lines like her brothers and sisters do when there are wounded that need tending to. This can translate into a young (in appearance, at least) woman who is manipulated and whose best intentions often get her into trouble.

The FNG: While Avery has a lot of time under her belt as a solider and a doctor, she is not at acquainted with the Superhero scene.

Lack of Knowledge: Although she has lived with her mutant abilities since she was sixteen, Avery has been perfectly happy not testing them - so, really, she has no idea what she is truly capable of.

I'd say that this is a nice character, though also quite powerful for a starting character :) that might just be me; though. Maybe have him acquire some of the gear, like the serum and sword, over the course of the RP?

I thought along the same lines too but I felt that it suited his backstory to have those things. He has the money and resources to be sure and he has the man himself as a mentor.

The way I tried to balance it, though, is the idea that he is only really good for one on one or some small scale combat. He can maybe mow down a legion of mooks but other than that he's going to have to take someone on head to head while others can provide more area of effect based powers that can handle a wider scope of threat than he ever could.

Having said that if the consensus says he's got too much I'm not opposed to changing it.

Oh, and an updated roster of sorts: 4 Women, 2 Men

RedPhoenix - Snake Scientist Hippie (Medusa Based Powers, sans turning you to stone literally)

Foxy Oni - Confident Heroine (Time Based Power)
Norwegian One - Scientist (Atmosphere/Density Based Powers)
Gil - Vigilante (Physical Prowess Based Powers)

I'm alright with it Gilgamesh. The only thing that made me worry a bit was his ability to learn other people's combat maneuvers on the fly through his memory. But I just interpret that as "Just because you can learn them doesn't mean you can beat them". Both Deathstroke, Joker and Batman would still be out of his class fighting wise.

Unless you disagree? This was my interpretation.

He can copy their styles, certainly, but, in order:

Joker is simply too mad to copy entirely. Sanity is not included.
Batman/Deathstroke are all leaps and bounds more experienced and smart than him. He might be able to fight them in a plain mindless void but they have the genius to tactically outwit him so he loses handily. He's still learning the tactical part of the skillset (thus why tactics wasn't in his powers).

If that makes sense. I based the power on Marvel's Taskmaster. He can win if you fight him long enough but most people better than him won't let it get to that point.

That makes sense to me. Thanks Gilgamesh!

Very much true :) I guess I'm just a little wary from other team roleplays I've done, where some players treat it as their personal character showcase, rather than working as a team :) I have high hopes for this RP, though, under Red's management :)

Nice goatee, NO. ;P I wonder where you got that inspiration from.

Superboy
Jonathan 'Jon' Kent II

Origin Story:
The son (or possibly daughter) of Conner Kent (AKA Con-El) and M'gann M'orzz (AKA Megan Morse) and named after Clark Kent's foster father, Jonathan Kent.  Apparently, he was born as a pool of writhing white plasma before reforming into a normal-looking baby boy.  Even in his infancy, he had a bad habit of shape-shifting into different forms whether it was human or animal.  If he were born to any other set of parents, he probably would've been lost a long time ago.

Conner and Megan bought a place in Smallville and raised their child in the small town of Kansas.  Jon's favourite hobby growing up was changing into all different sorts of animals.  He was repeatedly scolded by his parents and constantly reminded about keeping his powers a secret from others.  By the time he reached his teens, he was impersonating other people for fun, including teachers and classmates.  As he grew older, his telekinetic abilities started showing up.  In spite of his bad habits, he would regularly use his powers for good, such as preventing accidents and distracting criminals from afar so that their victims could get away.

By the time Jon reached the age of sixteen, Conner had long since stopped using the name 'Superboy' and had taken up another.  Both of his parents were off helping the Justice League on another planet when Jon had his first taste of being a superhero.  An airplane was passing over Smallville when it suffered from an engine failure.  With no one else around to help, Jon shape-shifted into 'Superboy' and caught the airplane before it could crash, saving all of its passengers.  Since then, he has expressed an interest in following his parents' footsteps and becoming a superhero.  Believing that this would be good for their son (and maybe help him with his bad habits), his parents supported his decision and mentored him for the next one and a half years.

Jon would later receive an offer to join the Justice Heroes at the age of eighteen.

Home City: Smallville, Kansas (later moved to Metropolis for college)

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: T-Shirt, jeans, and sneakers.  Sometimes he'll throw on a leather jacket.

Costume Description: Based on one of the costumes his father once wore.  Sometimes, he'll shape-shift into his white martian form.

Personality: Normally an easy-going person with a carefree and lackadaisical attitude and approach to things.  Jon also has a bit of a temper, which has gotten him into trouble more than once before.  He can be extremely stubborn and has a tendency to make reckless decisions at times.  Despite not exactly being the brightest bulb in class, he can be very perceptive and analytical to the point of practically becoming a human lie-detector.  He tries his best to be friendly and approachable to others, though it's obvious he's not very good at it.  He also displays great loyalty to his friends and family.

Powers/Weapons:

Telekinesis: Inherited telekinetic powers from both of his parents.  This ability also grants him super flight (approx. 100 mph).

Shape-Shifting: Has inherited the martian ability to shape-shift into any person or any animal of his choosing.  He has also accessed a White Martian form once in the past by complete accident and has yet to figure out how to do so on command.

Weakness:

Kryptonite: Is greatly weakened whenever he's around kryptonite.  Unless protected by lead or any other form of protection from radiation, he will experience severe physical pain and gradually lose his powers.  Prolonged exposure may result in death.

Red Solar Radiation: Exposure to red solar radiation will cause him to lose his telekinesis, but not his shape-shifting.

Solar Energy Exhaustion: If forced to engage in strenuous physical activity for a large amount of time or is forced to perform one very difficult task without continuous solar energy absorption, he will end up expending all of his stored solar energy.  Due to his young age, he is also less able to process the appropriate amount of solar energy as fast as a fully-grown Kryptonian.  As a result, overtaxing his powers to the point of physical depletion would spell his death, as his body would literally begin to feed on itself, unable to absorb solar energy fast enough to restore itself.

Fire: While he does not appear to have inherited the martians' fear of fire, he's still vulnerable.  Prolonged exposure to fire may interfere with his telekinesis and shape-shifting and cause him to "melt down" into a pool of writhing white plasma.

Identity Issues: Born with the martian ability to shape-shift, Jon has been using this power since day one.  As a kid, he'd regularly have fun changing into all types of animals and impersonating other people.  Up until his late teens, he's probably spent more time looking like other people than using his 'default' human form.  As a result, he has absolutely no idea what he's really supposed to look like.  He identifies as male, but couldn't be a hundred percent sure he actually is (he does know for sure, however, that he's only into women).  He's not even sure if he's supposed to look human or look martian or some combination in between.  The only reason why he's the splitting image of his father is because that's his best guess as to what his 'true form' probably looks like.

Impersonation: Has a bad habit of impersonating others without their express permission.  He's working on it.

Short-tempered: Has a bit of a short fuse and prone to flying off the handle.  This has led to him once nearly killing one of the more sociopathic villains during his youth.  Though he has learned quite a bit of self-control since then, his emotions will still get him into trouble every now and then.

Hey Deathnote!

I read through your character sheet. I like the concept, but I think he is too powerful right now. Given that he has the abilities of both a Martain and Superman from the get-go.

I would recommend pulling all of one or the other out of the sheet for now. Maybe he has not yet been able to tap in to his Kryptonian powers, or his Martian powers. Just those by themselves (one or the other) are extremely powerful.

Offline Deathnote

What if I downgraded his telepathy so that he has to physically touch someone to read their mind and had his super physical abilities be an application of tactile-telekinesis combined with shape-shifting?

Offline Red LobsterTopic starter

It would still be a no sadly. I would be more comfortable with it if you were to dramatically de-buff his shape shifting abilities. Perhaps to say that right now he can only turn in to monsters, or change physical appearance. As I see it, here is the list of his powers:

Super Strengh
Super Speed
Super Reflexes
Invulnerability
Flight
Telekinesis
Mind Reading
Mimic People
Increase Size
Elongation
Alter Form (to turn in to monsters, or give himself additional limbs)
Alter Chemical Composition

Comparing him to other PC characters I would say you would be able to have 4-5 of these at max at character creation. To be clear, that doesn't mean you can't get them later! It just means you will have to train up and earn them through Main Story thread victories.

Zero
Timothy Rayne

Origin Story: Tim Rayne was a high school history teacher and was what one could call a “normal” guy.  He spent a little too much time watching old episodes of Farscape and not enough time jogging. But this was indeed what normal people did; yes?

Even his wife getting diagnosed with cancer when she was thirty was unfortunately what one considered to be normal these days however upon receiving word on how advanced it was and that she only had six months to live; Tim took it upon himself to take a less normal approach.  Bills kept collecting and stayed unpaid due to him being denied loans from local financial institutions (Hey things are tough for everyone these days right?), and more conventional treatments were proving ineffective.  Advice offered by friends and other people from support groups wasn’t working.  He left countless messages on internet message boards that were focused on alternative forms of treatment; both legal and…not so much.

He and his wife were on month “four” of six and it seemed like the physician’s initial assessment was wrong.  Six months seemed generous now as his wife’s health was deteriorating rapidly and both Tim and his wife began making plans for the inevitable.  It was four in the morning when he received an email from an anonymous sender.

“At 13:00 today go to the corner of Racine and Fifth.
You will find a convenience store there.
Buy the third Pay as You Go Metro! Phone from the back of the rack.
Proceed one block west and enter the coffee shop there.
Sit in the booth in the north-west corner.
Wait for the call.
It will save your wife.”

Suffice to say; after a great deal of researching and coming up with nothing in the short time he had to do so; he was waiting in booth as directed.

The call he received that day set him on an unexpected path.

A path that led to his recruitment by an “off the books” division of S.T.A.R. Labs in Salt Lake City that specialized in advanced physics.  He learned that CERN was not the only organization with an enormous hadron collider and there; so that his wife could receive the treatment she needed; he became Test Case Zero.

Tim was experimented on repeatedly over a period of two years and when not being injected or exposed to all manner of energy and particle exposure he was being trained in hand to hand combat and firearms.

The health of Tim’s wife made an immediate improvement after one week of treatment.  S.T.A.R. Labs – Utah paid Tim’s outstanding bills and while he didn’t get to see his wife as much as he liked; he understood that this was the price to be paid for his wife’s life.

It was in his third year at S.T.A.R. Labs – Utah when his powers began to manifest.

In his fourth year he was learning just what he could do with his new found powers.

In his fifth year he was beginning to combine the physical training he had received since coming to the labs with his powers.

It was on his thirty-fourth birthday when S.T.A.R. Labs came to him with his first…what they called a mission of great importance.

He was brought into a room and told to “gear up accordingly” only to then have a monitor on the wall flicker on.  He could see a scene on the monitor that depicted a man and a woman asleep in bed.  The view was distorted some, as though he was viewing the scene through some manner of miniaturized camera but he could indeed make out that it was someone’s bedroom.

The ear bud he had inserted activated with a song tone…

“Zero.  Take the package from the table.  Then focus.  Relocate to the scene on the monitor.  When there...arm the package.  You will have two minutes to exfiltrate to a distance of one hundred meters.  Resistance should be expected if you are seen.  Do not engage.  Exfiltrate and relocate.  Remember your training.”

“Remote relocation” was something he had been working on for the last six months.  It was not easy.  Often it made his nose and ears bleed and that was pleasant compared to the headaches afterwards.

“Zero.  Remember your training.”

It took longer than he would have preferred but one moment he was in the room in S.T.A.R. Labs – Utah and the next he was in the bedroom he had been viewing in the monitor.  Things felt…wrong however.  There was the few moments of nausea as expected and the disorientation that came along with it but when he finally had cleared his head and stood over the bed he had been viewing earlier.  He understood why things felt wrong.  The couple he had been watching was the President of the United States and a woman that was certainly not the First Lady.

“Zero.  Remember your training.” , came the calm voice in his ear.  “Arm the package.  Exfiltrate and relocate.”

Tim shook his head slightly.

“Zero.  Remember your training.”

“I didn’t train for this…” , he whispered out loud…more to himself than anyone in particular.  The President let out a growl in response; rolled to his side and turned his back on Tim.

“Zero.  Remember your training.  Remember your arrangement.”

He shook his head once more…trying to understand just what was going on when he heard another soft tone.  Looking down, he felt a chill wash through him as “the package” was now armed and rather than a two minute countdown, it looks as though it had started at ten seconds.

Because now it was at seven seconds!

Six seconds.

Tim was on the move.  Rushing out of the bedroom and into a hall where two armed and seemingly attentive men were utterly surprised to see him come charging out of the President’s bedroom.

“Get on the fucking ground!” , shouted one of them.

Five seconds.

Tim blinked out of existence and appeared further down the hall only to kick open another door and run through it even as bullets snapped through the air where he was a moment before.

Four seconds.

Tim spotted green…

Outside…

…and a moment later he was outside too…except fifteen feet in the air and rapidly falling towards the ground.  He could hear alarms.  He could hear people shouting.

Three seconds.

Tim hit the ground hard and immediately scrambled to his feet.

I’m at the fucking White House!

Two seconds.

Everywhere he looked there were people.

Except up…

One second.

Tim pushed the maximum range of his power and appeared one hundred meters in the air above the front lawn of the White House only to then throw “the package” upwards and relocated just as the detonation occurred.

One day later; Tim’s wife passed away from advanced Stage Four cancer.  It was revealed that much of her body was riddled with cancer and it was decided that maybe her miraculous cure had just been a fortunate remission and nothing more.

One day later; it was revealed that an unregistered “meta” had taken part in a despicable act of terrorism but thankfully failed in their attempt to bomb the White House.

Tim wasn’t at his wife’s funeral and there was a good deal of speculation around why he wasn’t but in the end; it was decided that his grief was too great and he simply could not be present.

Tim Rayne disappeared after that.

One year later; yet another vigilante had appeared in Gotham City; referred to as “Zero” and seemingly taking steps to stop criminals there as well as being more inquisitive than normal about S.T.A.R. Labs.

Home City: Gotham City

Civilian Appearance/Style Description:

Costume Description:

Personality: Tim isn’t afraid to make with the snappy patter when he’s nervous.  He’s focused and fully engaged with training and the mastering of his power but he is clearly not dealing with what he had gone through in the past and simply burying it within.  Tim doesn’t like talking about his past.  He feels as though he was naieve and the guilt over feeling responsible for his wife’s death makes him quick to deflect personal questions sent his way.

Powers: Teleportation – Tim can move himself and up to two hundred additional pounds up to 100 meters in any direction he has line of sight to.  He needs roughly 1 second between teleportation attempts to “recharge” but straining to greater distances beyond 100 meters or carrying more than just himself along with him can result in greater exhaustion and leave him drained for an extended period. Each instance of teleportation does tire him.  He can currently “rapid-fire” teleport fifteen times over a stretch of fifteen to twenty seconds and that will leaving him breathing heavily and in need of a rest for two to three minutes.  Newton’s First Law of Motion still governs Tim and his power.  If he is running and leaps into the air, only to the teleport; upon appearing again he will maintain that momentum.  If Tim is falling, he can indeed teleport out of that fall but depending on how far he has fallen; he will maintain that momentum and downward force upon reappearing elsewhere.  Psychologically Tim still relies from time to time on a physical stimulus for his teleportation.  Example:  At times; when under stress if Tim was on a rooftop of a building and needed to teleport to another rooftop; he would need to sprint towards the edge and jump…only to then reappear on the other rooftop.  This physical stimulus is NOT needed and is indeed something he must overcome.  After a teleport and upon reappearing there is a minor shockwave that accompanies this reappearance.  Not a shockwave of a physical nature but more; a wave of silence that radiates out from him; silencing all noise for a second as it moves outward from him until it dissipates at a 15 meter radius from Tim.

Remote Relocation – With focus and under the right circumstances; Tim can use a remote video feed to act as guidance for his teleportation.  This can allow him to teleport far…far beyond what his normal range currently is.

Firearm Training – Tim is proficient with side-arms and rifles of the automatic and semi-automatic variety.  To call himself a crack shot would be quite generous.  He is capable but still has a good deal of expertise to acquire.  He is growing more competent at combining his teleportation whilst firing his sidearms.

Hand to Hand Combat Training – Tim has spent five years learning jiu jitsu as well as krav maga.  Much as his skill with firearms; he is a capable combatant but certainly not an expert and has a good deal to learn.  He is growing more competent at combining his teleportation whilst using hand to hand attacks.

Weapons: Tim wields a pair of experimental .45 calibre ceramic pistols that will accept a number of modified rounds.  Upon fleeing S.T.A.R. Labs he has had to resort to simply regular ammunition but he is hoping to come up with a way to expand his arsenal.

Equipment: Tim’s costume was developed by S.T.A.R. Labs and acts as a form of body armor and is effective against knifes and small calibre ammunition.

Tim has a pair of goggles that allow him to see in infrared and low light conditions.

Weakness: As a result of the experimentation done on Tim he needs to consume double the normal human average of fluids everyday; lest he begin to dehydrate and grow ill.  Once every five days he needs to spend twelve hours breathing it nothing other than pure helium.  Failing to do this causes a painful deterioration in Tim over time and after having missed his treatment for three days; he will slip into a coma and experience complete system failure a day or so after.

An idea, Deathnote. He already has pretty significant weaknesses, but if you wanted to add another power to the cap... Since Superboy's a quarter Kryptonian and half Martian, maybe he's only able to use one power at a time? Can't use super-strength while shapeshifted, can't fly while using telepathy, etc, ala Ultra Boy from the Legion of Super Heroes.

Alternately, maybe he can only use his Kryptonian powers or his Martian powers at any given time, but not both simultaneously?

 - Invulnerability
 - Flight (how fast would he be allowed to fly?  15 mph?)
Mimic People
Alter Form (to turn into animals or monsters no larger than a grizzly bear and no smaller than a squirrel)

Should I take away his Kryptonian weaknesses or do they have to stay to keep the above power set?

Actually, scratch that.  Is there any way I can have a power-set that lets me:
a) mimic people and animals
b) catch up to an airplane
c) save said airplane from crashing
d) survive a punch from a villain with super strength

Okay, got my character out, hope its good :-)

The Hawk
The Hawk.
Caroline M'ka Becker.

Origin Story: Caroline Becker was originally approached by none other than HawkGirl after doing some initial solo heroing out over in Kentucky, beating up minor thieves and criminals and dropping them off over at the police station, sometimes literally. She was the product of a Thanagarian father and a Human mother. Her father was a deserter from his homeland, tired of the fighting and wanting to find a place to settle down and live in peace. It just so happened to be Earth that he chose. Eventually marrying a Veterinarian from a small town they had two Children together. Caroline and her little sister Gretchen. With Hawkgirl and Hawkman as the only other Thanagarians like herself to see as role models it was only natural that she would want to be a hero like them.

There were lots of arguments back home, till her father eventually relented (while her mother was ecstatic that her daughter wanted to do something productive with her life). And eventually she ended up becoming a professional hero...well Amateur Hero.

Home City: None, was a freelance hero until being picked up by Hawkgirl.

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: When not out doing her superheroine thing, Carol will remove her wig and go about in any clothes that fit her mood of the day. Though she always wears jackets and coats, just in case she has need to pull her wings out and then hide them quickly. She usually prefers 5.11 Jackets because of how big they are and all the extra pockets to hide her stuff in. She actually dressed better and more appropriately while in civilian mode than in her superheroine persona.

Costume Description: Carol carries with her a leather Bomber's jacket with holes cut in it for her wings, a pair of gloves with Nth metal plates at the knuckles. She also wears a pair of goggles over her eyes along with a white haired wig she uses to help hide her identity.

Personality: Carol tries as hard as she can to be all cool and badass and look tough around others, but deep down she is a big softie. (much as she denies it) Despite her 'too good for you' act at times she really wants to have friends, and wont admit it, but she is a mega nerd. (She knows every Star Wars movie by heart.) Carol loves her mother, father, and little sister. When in the presence of her mother she is completely submissive to the point of even going to her room if told to. She also has a bad habit of letting out the occasional smart ass comment even when she doesn't mean to, sometimes talking without even thinking.

Powers/Weapons:Nth Metal Gauntlets.: well they are more like gloves with metal knuckles at the end. Created out of one of her Father’s spare weapons (Since no Thanagarian should be without their Nth weapon) She carried them into battle and uses them like Brass knuckles, they carry with them the attributes of Nth Metal

-Flight: As a Thanaga

-Extra breath: As part of her ability to fly, Caroline can hold more air in her lungs than a normal human. While not Olympic level she can hodl her breath for about 4 full minutes. 5 mins, 30secs. If she really tries hard.)

Weakness:-Higher Altitudes: Carol cannot fly as high as some planes, the cold will cause her joints to ache and go numb, making flapping her wings difficult. The Lack of Oxygen will also affect her flying abilities.

-Her Inner Ear: If she is hit with a sound weapon or struck on the ears/discombobulated she will be unable to fly. For if she does she will suffer a severe case of vertigo and either crash or vomit all over herself.

-Weak on the inside: Should a civilian ever be in danger or held as a hostage they will be the sole focus of Carol's attention and she will be the first to raise her hands in submission to avoid the civilian being harmed by the villain. But they better hope she doesn't get her hands on them after the civie is safe, for she has a tendency to go full 'Mama Bear'.

-Terrified of scary Eldritch monsters.: Despite her Nth Metal probably being able to knock Cthulhu's teeth out, Caroline has a big fear of things not from this dimension and if encountering them alone might end up running. Aliens are one thing, Eldritch abominations are another.

Go ahead and keep the Weakness to Kryptonite, Deathnote. He is still a Kryptonian after all, and it helps to balance the power-set. I am fine with the 4 powers you listed, which are essentially Super Strength, Super Flight, Mimic and Shapeshift.

@Everyone, discussing the sheet here with Deathnote has actually brought something to my attention that I want to clear up with everyone. Several people have marked being "a normal human" on their character sheet as a Weakness. I am fine with you leaving this on your sheet but understand that I do not consider this an actual Weakness. Nor did I mentally mark it as such when reading through your sheet. Most superhero's are "physically" just regular humans. Though they may have big, grand superpowers or extreme skill, most would die by taking a direct bullet shot to the face. Or (realistically) if they were punched by someone with Super Strength it would shatter their body.

This does not happen though to villain's or heroes by venture of the fact that they are Heroes and Villains. It is a comic book or cartoon after all. If a regular henchman took a punch to the chest from Superman, or a super sonic tackle from The Flash, they just get knocked out. This is what will *usually* be the case in most battles with everyone. This is so that we can let people use things like guns and swords and their full power-set without fear that they are going to be killing people left and right. Unless a villain is intentionally trying to murder you, instead of just defeat you, everything will be pretty much non-lethal. I do not want the fear of killing people to distract everyone from combat encounters.

All of that being said, I'll just restate my original point. Being human is not going to be a Weakness. Someone with Invulnerability can just ignore bullets and most melee attacks to a point (depending on the degree of Invulnerability), but that is not the norm. Something that negates your powers is a Weakness, or something that is "Super Effective" Pokemon style on you is a Weakness. For instance RedPhoenix's character sheet states that she is weak against Cold attacks, which means she would be at a large disadvantage anytime she fights a person of equal power to her with Cold type powers. Similarly, Rel and Foxy do not have "regular humans" as a Weakness, but I assume that they are and are therefore vulnerable to opponents trying to kill them through normal lethal means.

I hope that clears things up for everyone!

@Lust, your sheet looks great! I would actually recommend maybe giving her another power or two. Perhaps a Thanagarian weapon inherited from her father, or even being extremely resilient.

You don't have to of course if you'd prefer to keep her as is! Approved!

Updated the sheet.

Hey Deathnote,

I took a look at your update and it's not totally correct. I went ahead and wrote out the powers so we are on the same page:

Super Strength: Similar to Superman Jonathan has incredible physical strength

Flight: Jonathan is able to fly at extreme speeds, equivalent to that of a commercial airliner (several 100mph)

Shapeshifting: Jonathan is able to take on the form of various animals of his choosing

Mimic: Jonathan is able to take on the physical form of any person he sees or can think of off the top of his head

My edits removed Telekinesis as a power. If you would like you can add it back in as a replacement for Super Strength. He would not (at starting level) have the ability to enhance his punches with his telekinetic abilities, because that's effectively the same thing as having both powers. I also removed being able to turn in to monsters, limiting the power to anything in the existing animal kingdom. Obviously all of your powers would transfer in to that animal as well. I also removed Invulnerability as well.

Your note of 4 was "the ability to survive a punch from someone with super strength". You are able to do that without having Invulnerability.

Your character is quite powerful with those that I noted!

Well, might as remove that "vulnerability to magic" weakness, then, since there's no invulnerability to bypass at all.

Also, does this mean he can be killed by a bullet?  I only ask because it will affect how I play this character.

How big is this game going to be? For some reason I thought it was a small group thing but on reading back I guess I made that up! Will we be split into teams or something? It seems like we already have more than would go off on most YJ/JL type missions.

Also...OOC thread? :D

Red Lobster posted the threads here! And I don't mind there being a bit in the beginning, because usually a third to half drops quite quickly.

The OOC Section and Character Sheets thread are up! Please post your character sheet if approved and pop in to the OOC to say hi!

I like to keep recruitment open until we hit a certain number of approved character sheets!

We have about 6-7 so far, and I think 10 would be a good number. It's natural for 1-2 people to decide to bow out of the game fairly early on if they think it's not for them.

Offline Rel Mayer

I know how to read really I do....thanks Rel. <3

Haha! I do it all the time! ;)

Offline Deathnote

That is correct Death, he could be shot and killed.

Well... guess that means he can't be a front-line fighter.  If I swapped out super strength for telekinesis, what would he be able to do with it?  How much would he be able to lift?

You say that Death but being killed by a bullet is something most everyone can be. He might have the strength to pick up a section of the ground to act as a shield or some such. He could fly at high speed to avoid it. Come from odd angles or use he shapeshifting to change his form and dodge that way.

Invulnerability is overrated...okay, maybe not but his skillset still allows him to soak "damage" by being avoidance based rather than taking it to the chin.

Just my two cents for whatever it's worth!

Offline Rel Mayer

Pretty sure all of us can be killed by bullets. This isn't a 'god tier' game.

We are all playing characters that are in training, in a way!

So after a plotting session with a few people in mumble, I'm gonna try to spin a joker offspring....there was more plotting but I don't know if it will fly.

So maybe no sibling rivalry rel  >:)

So I dropping the potential speedster idea

Offline Red LobsterTopic starter

Gilgamesh is correct. Being Invulnerable would make you significantly more resilient than everyone else, above average. Without it your character would be on par with everyone else. Since nobody has specifically picked up Invulnerability yet.

Frankly if these changes kind of kill the character in your mind, I would recommend rolling a new character entirely. Since you may not be happy playing him without those other powers at the beginning.

It was hurting my brain trying to even figure out how it would be possible!

A few time machines, setting destruction, world mashing, DNA cloning, God-modding and some non-con and it could happen.

I'm sure Red Lobster would be more than fine with that.

:) I hope my sarcasm is obvious enough.

All of those require some level of superhuman reflexes... or mind-reading abilities.  Thanks anyways.  Those are some creative uses of his abilities.  The only one I thought of already was the shape-shifting one (thanks to watching Beast Boy in action in Teen Titans :p).

It doesn't matter anyway.  The only ability that really matters for this character is the shape-shifting.  Everything else won't make or break this character.  I just noticed that the cast was missing the meat-shield and thought I'd try fulfilling that role.  That won't be possible if Jon can't "take one for the team".

Which is why I'm currently asking questions about the limits of each power, because I'm going to need to know them even if I'm going to create a new character.  I've been using the Young Justice tv show as a measuring stick for Jon's abilities.  Apparently, that's inaccurate for this game.

Now all we need is a Dove  ;D

@Death, Young Justice is actually a pretty good touchstone for the game! The speedster character and Robin get knocked around quite a lot even by things that obviously have Super Strength, but neither are Invulnerable. The groan in pain, maybe break a rib or a bone here and there, but they get back up and join right back in to the fight. Whereas Superboy takes the hit, then just gets back up more pissed off than he was before.

In terms of lifting ability for Telekinesis, you would be able to lift lift a few cars, or even a large 18-wheeler during combat. I would say the smaller you lift, the more easy it is to do without require some degree of needing to stop and concentrate on the action.

Posting my sheet for review by you guys! Let me know if you have any critiques or concerns.

The Blue Streak
Jason Grant

Origin Story: Jason was not born with his powers, nor did he inherit them through any particularly tragic accident. Jason had a fairly normal, happy upbringing in the classic American household! He went to public schools, had a large number of friends, and was even offered a scholarship to the University of Metropolis! His hope was to one day become an actor on the big screen, favoring the limelight above most other things. Though at best the boy above average, but nothing near close to being the big shot of his hopes and dreams. Just after turning 18 Jason moved out from Hub City and relocated to the live-in dorms at Metropolis University. He didn't excel in particularly any set of classes (particularly his Stage and Film Theater courses) and as a result lost his full-ride within the first year of being enrolled. Jason probably would have found this troubling if the boy had not spent most of his short college career partying like crazy!

One day, while visiting Downtown Metropolis to see a few shows, some giant Mech-thing started blowing a bunch of shit up. Trampling down the street, tossing cars left and right, shooting missiles like it was trying to see how many windows it could shatter at once. Generally just causing a bunch of mayhem to draw in the Justice League for a 'fair fight'. Jason and a few of his friends were, sadly, caught in the heart of the chaos. His friends made it out alright, but Jason was not so fortunate. A crumbled alleyway blocked him in, and within seconds Jason turned to find the big Mech-badass staring him down. He supposed the guy inside must have been an asshole, because the dick fired a goddamn missile at him. That's when he appeared in a Flash! The red speedster of legend scooped Jason up off the street zoomed down the sidewalk to rescue him.

Unfortunately the missile had somehow locked on to Jason directly. Which meant the Flash needed to run fast... really really fast in order to get away from it. Within seconds they were out of Downtown. Then out of Metropolis entirely. Further, but still not far enough to escape the Mech's missile guidance system. Finally, flashing Jason a sly smirk through his cowl, the Flash kicked his speed into overdrive! The pure essence of the Speed Force materialized around the Flash, boosting his capabilities 10-fold. Until the two were on the other side of the planet, and Jason was being set down safely in some backwater African village. “Don't thank me citizen... ummm... where are we?” That was the happiest day of Jason's life.

Within minutes Jason discovered that his DNA had been forever changed, altered after being so close to the Speed Force for even a short period of time. He had become a speedster, capable of accessing the Speed Force! After a 'quick sprint' alongside his new personal hero, Jason returned to Metropolis and started his career as a crime fighter! It was rough going at first, but over the next several years his alias The Blue Streak became well known enough to warrant a invite to the Justice Heroes directly from the Justice League!

Home City: Originally from Hub City, but he trained to become a hero in Metropolis

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: During the day Jason looks like any other guy in his mid-twenties. He has short cut, dirty blonde hair and almost perpetually wears a goofy, albeit handsome smile. His “go to” outfit is an older bomber jacket his mother bought for him a few Christmas's ago, a Metropolis Supermen (local football team) shirt, and a pair of jeans.

Costume Description: As seen in picture above.

Personality: Jason has developed a small ego problem with his speedster abilities. When you it's almost literally impossible for people to stop you, you start not caring about a lot of the normal rules! Taking a queue from old Flash interviews and video footage, he loves to chat up his villains before tying them up with everything he can find. Dress them up in funny hats before dropping the thugs off at the police station. One of his primary self-proclaimed catch-phrases is “Why not fight crime, and have fun while doin' it!”

Powers/Weapons:

Super Speed – Jason has accessed the Speed Force, just like the other Flash heroes and speed related villains before him! This allows him to run at speeds considered even greater than the average super-human speed! When the Blue Streak runs he leaves behind a matching blue blur, and trails of Speed Force lighting.

Super Healing – Jason has the ability to heal from injuries, even potentially life threatening ones, at incredible speeds. This doesn't mean he could heal a bullet or stab wound mid fight. But within a hour most bruises or cuts have disappeared, and within 24 most bone damage or deep wounds will have closed up.

Body Displacement – Jason has the ability to vibrate his molecules fast enough to phase through objects, like walls, or out of handcuffs

Weakness:

Super Metabolism! - Jason eats a ton. When he's not fighting crime... usually even when he's fighting crime he's eating something. His super speed requires tons of energy from his body, requiring that he eat a whole families worth of food a day in order to keep up.

...they're evolving.

P.s Here's a bio, still can't decide on a superhero name though.

Michael Curry
Your Superhero Name
Michael Curry

Origin Story: Michael Curry is the son of Arthur Curry (aka Aquaman) and his wife Meera. They were loving parents to Michael and sought to give him all the advantages in life they could and also to prepare him for the troubles he might face as their scion. So Michael’s time was split between the surface world and Atlantis. All in all his life was fairly normal despite his parenthood and the change in scenery he often faced.Problems didn’t begin to arise until he was around 10 and his powers began to surface. He got into an altercation with the school bully and when he attempted to push him back he accidently flung him half the length of a football field. After that he got a stern talking to from his parents about the power he possessed and the responsibilities that came with it.

Life went on, he continued to spend time between Atlantis and Earth being raised in the customs and ways of both (thought he quickly came to favour earth). But as he grew he began to realise that his parents were not simple his parents, nor were they simply atlantean royalty, they were superheros, defenders of the earth. So Michael did what any teenager with super powers would do, he tried to become a superhero. Sadly his first few forays into the world of crime fighting did not go to well. Although he had the mojo he never seemed to have the timing. He just couldn’t crimes to bust, he either heard about it too late or by the time he got there it was already sorted. He managed to bust a few bank robberies by hearing about the chase on the new and getting there on time but any time he tried to patrol the streets at night he found nothing. No rapings, no muggings, no shootings at most maybe littering. When he asked his parents about joining up with the justice league and doing the whole hero thing they agreed to help him find training but that he was too young and still had to prove himself to join up he couldn’t just ride their coattails to the top. So he continued the training and just go on with a normal life. He went off to university to study marine biology, enjoyed life, playing ultimate frisbee and went to keggers but he never forgot the dream of becoming a hero.

Home City: Boston Massachusetts

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Michael is a fairly attractive guy in his early twenties. He stands in at  around 6’1 with a muscular, swimmer's body. His dark red hair is typically styled messily sticking up on top with the back and sides kept slightly shorter. He might have a bit of stubble around his jaw and chin depending on the day of the week and if he can be bothered to shave. His style, although fashionable, would be considered very casual, his wardrobe full of t shirts, jeans, shorts and a couple of shirts. He tends to dress for the summer regardless of the season.

Costume Description:Michael’s kind of between costumes at the minute, when he first attempted the whole superhero thing he pretty much just went in whatever he was wearing because he quickly found attempting to put on any type of suit and get their in time took far too long. Still he has access to a set of atlantean armour similar to those worn by his father.
Pictured here

Personality: Michael is a happy go lucky, devil may care individual. His chief desire in life is to enjoy it, to relax and kick back with some friends and have some fun. His attempts to become a hero are born more out of a desire to do good and help people as opposed to feeling of responsiblity. In fact when responsibility is thrust upon him he has a tendency to attempt to run the other way, which isn’t great for the heir to a throne. It started fro when his powers started to develop and the restrictions that had to be placed on him, he couldn’t compete at sports, he couldn’t fight back when kids insulted him or more typically his parents.

Powers/Weapons:
Atlantean Hybridized Physiology: Michael poesses the powers of his father, Arthur Curry, and so is an offshoot homosapian who is biologically adapted to the deep ocean environment. For most Atlanteans, this means they can breathe underwater, endure the pressures of the deep (among other adaptations), and can only spend a very limited time out of water. However due to either his heritage to royal blood and the fact his father was part human, he possesses a number traits Atlantean's do not, for instance while he shares many of their faults he can spend an elongated time out of the water with little ill effect and is shown to be 20-50 times stronger, faster, tougher and more or less tireless compared to others of his race. Also akin to other Merefolk is his ability to not only function indefinitely within water but can easily withstand the crushing depths of the ocean deep as well as harsh natures of the sea itself. Making Arthur among other things a super-Atlantean as well as super-human.
 • Superhuman Durability: Michael's enhanced physiology enables him to withstand impacts that would kill an ordinary human, and critically injure an average Atlantean. He has been able to travel to some of the deepest depths of the ocean and resist the extreme pressures. He is not completely durable against fire arms, but is able to take a direct hit at near point blank range from an assault rifle which made him bleed but otherwise glance off his thick skin.

He is not completely durable against fire arms, but is able to take a direct hit at near point blank range from an assault rifle which made him bleed but otherwise glance off his thick skin.
 • Superhuman Stamina:Michael possesses strength and stamina that allows him to swim up to 150 mph for at least a 4 hour period without significant breaks for rest or recuperation.
 • Superhuman Speed: On land he would be able to match the speed of Olympic atheletes but in water his regular speed is approximately 100mph swimming underwater. In times of distress this has shown to drastically increase, and he has reached 1,000 knots.
 • Superhuman Strength: Michael possesses superhuman strength on the order of 150 times human maximum with his strength is more than a match for most barriers such as wood, metals, brick or concrete walls. Only extremely durable metal reinforced barriers, have any chance of slowing him for any length of time. He has proven capable of performing standing high jumps of 4 stories (both on land and from water), lifting and throwing a car with ease. His strength would appear somewhat dependent on how hydrated he is.
 • Enhanced Vision: His ability to see in the murky depths of the ocean allows him exceptional night vision while on land.
 • Enhanced Hearing: several times more acute than human capacity, once even hearing a police siren from several miles away.
 • Enhanced Smell: several times more acute than human capacity.
 • Superhuman Reflexes: While no speedster, Aquaman's reflexes are superior to even near metahumans and are on the order of approximately 5 times faster than a normal human.

Weakness:
Water Deficiency: When not exposed to water, many of Michael’s physical attributes gradually decline and can reach a point where he possesses only a small fraction of his powers.

Snowflake
Jessica Winter

Origin Story: Jessica came from a seemingly perfect family with two parents and a older brother. After the unforeseen death of her mother when she was 4, her family moved to Central City.  Her father was then arrested for the suspected murder of her mother and thrown into jail. She was separated from her brother after that. She bounced around foster homes until adopted by a rich man and moved to Star City. By then she was already 12. For the next 9 years she lived with him. After graduating University with a Masters in Bio-engineering. She worked as a scientist in her adopted father's company under the research department in hopes to finding cures and other stuff to help people in the city. One day there was an explosion in the neighbouring lab (dealing with radioactive matter) across from hers and she awoke in the hospital. Her body temperature was much lower than an average human being's. The doctors could not figure out why she was like this but other than that, her body was fit and she was cleared to go home.
For the next few days, her body started to change. Her brown hair turned blonde and her fingertips were ice cold. It then progressed even more. Her touches were cold and soon she was freezing things around the house. Not wanting her father to know, she moved out, back to Central City to find answers. S.T.A.R labs was famous for the research on metahumans (after some deep digging on her part). She sought help there. There, she was taught to control her powers as they continued their research on her. It was then she found out that whatever that happened to her was irreversible. She resigned to her fate. Together with some other metahumans, they formed a small group and did some crime fighting. In the day she works at S.T.A.R labs like any other scientist but at night, she and the other metahumans fight crime, keeping the city safe.
She was only recently recruited by the Justice League after word got out. She thinks they probably need her because of her expertise not because of her powers but even so, she accepted anyways.

Home City: Central City/ Star City

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Normally wearing a black leather clothes, skinny jeans or black leather leggings. Wears glasses when she reads. Lab coat when she is in the lab.

Costume Description: As in pictures.

Personality: Comes off as cold and unfriendly but is only warm and loves teasing her close friends. She does not trust a lot of people and is always on her guard.

Powers/Weapons:
Hand Blasts- Release ice/cold blasts from hands.
Expanding Ice Bolts- Project ice/cold that expands rapidly on contact with an object.
Formulated Ice Blasts- Release blasts of ice/cold object or weapon.
Cryostasis- Freeze cells, whole tissues, or any other substances susceptible to damage caused by chemical reactivity or time by cooling to sub-zero temperatures to preserve them.
Snow generation- Ability to create snow but not manipulate it.

Weakness:
Dry and hot places with little moisture. She cannot form ice/cold or snow in these places.
She has a sweet tooth. Likes chocolates and lollipops a bit too much.

Are you still recruiting for this game?

Offline Deathnote

In terms of lifting ability for Telekinesis, you would be able to lift lift a few cars, or even a large 18-wheeler during combat. I would say the smaller you lift, the more easy it is to do without require some degree of needing to stop and concentrate on the action.

I can work with that.  An eighteen wheeler can weigh up to 80 tons (40 tons without an oversize permit... unless you're in Michigan).  That would be enough to handle a narrow-body passenger airliner like the Boeing 737 or the Airbus A320... or maybe slow down the descent of a Jumbo Jet like the Boeing 747.

Switching out super strength for telekinesis now.  >_>

Wildcard/Payday
Joseph W. Kerr

Origin Story:
Nature vs Nurture, one of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology. What does this have to do with Joe? That is up to whoever is currently profiling him or trying to, a shame no one truly knows who he is and how he came to be, except for one man.

A Large hammer comes down on narrators head before the Joker kicks the lifeless body over.
"I'll take it from here Mr. Narrator. Sit down kids, time for a story!" The Harlequin of Hate smiles as he wipes the remains of the narrator off the stool before sitting down.
"Now in a moment of clarity I realized something....I am just a man, yes me. And all men must die..." He motions towards the dead narrator. "Just like that...one day you are alive, the next moment your head is split open like a ripe watermelon." The man in the purple suit drops the hammer and giggles. "So anyway....once upon a time, blah blah blah...when a certain billionaire was unaware his various dalliances had resulted in a child. That is when I decided to play a game! Take him and have Ms. Supermodel tell the daddy the baby didn't make it. SPOILER ALERT! He is Alive! Ok I am bored of this! Take it away Mr. Narrator....ohh yea. Ohh well Bye!HaaHaaaHahahahahaaaaaaa"

Back to that debate of Nature vs Nurture. A Wayne, the name itself is not enough to warrant anything or is it? Who knows the life Joseph might have had if Bruce knew about his son. What motivated his mother to follow along with the Joker's schemes. Last he heard, his mom was still locked up in Arkham, completely insane. As for Joe, what would he become if Bruce would have raised him? A privileged snob with far to much money and a complex after being unable to escape his father's shadow? Or the next victim to a brutal beating outside a warehouse? Bruce does not speak about his lost son, an empty grave visited every year on the alleged birthday. Whatever the Joker's intentions, he was unable to break the Black Knight of Gotham.

Joseph grew up in the system of Gotham, shuffled off from orphanage to foster home and back, sometimes the last one worst then the previous one. It was no surprise he took to the streets as soon as he could hustle a couple bucks from anything form running packages or a couple rounds of three card monty. As he grew older and began to show that Wayne ingenuity his schemes became more elaborate, his scores/paydays larger. Who needs school when you can learn all you need on the streets of Gotham? Need some firepower, learn some Russian. How about some tech, better brush up on some Mandarin so you can talk to the Triads. Don't forget about Diplomacy 101 when dealing with the crime families of Gotham. And then there was Mista J, Henchman number 2, The Red Hood, whatever identity he conceived to hide himself from Joe. Always watch, mentoring, showing him the ropes.

Like the fabled Icarus, he flew to close to the sun drew the attention to himself or maybe it was time to teach the kid some humility. The kid got pinched, his crew vanished as ordered before being brought face to face Jim Gordon and the estranged father he never knew he had. For all his crimes, for all the weapons dealings, extortion, robberies and some jobs they didn't even know about he nor his crew killed a single person. Batman profiled the young man, attempting to figure it out but just couldn't. Gordon suggested an alternative to life in jail, Young Justice. A chance of redemption, Joseph wasn't even sure if he wanted to be redeemed but it beat a 5x5 cell.

Bruce wanted to save him, unaware on how deep Joker's roots went. He asked for the impossible, one of the many who trained him to take him in. Unknowingly turning him over to the League of Assassins. Joseph Wayne Kerr went off to train, a furious young man whose entire life had been flipped upside down. The harsh regiment of the League under his various task masters broke him down in an attempt to break his anger but instead began to hone it into an even deadlier skill set. Covert actions, espionage, assassination, hand to hand combat, martial arts and weapon training became his life. During his time with them he killed his first target and found it liberating. Unfortunately the league never fully accepted him as one of their own. He was on "loan" despite all the training, bleeding and almost dying for them. Joseph took the name Wildcard and prepared to leave as ordered, unsure if he would return to Gotham, the home he only knew. A message found him somewhere in Egypt as he pondered returning to his previous life or finding a new city to loot.

The invitation to the Justice League was almost discarded at first. Was he so twisted he loathed the idea of being a Hero? As he pondered what path to take he found himself sitting face to face with a person who convinced him to join up.

Home City: Gotham

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Tends to wear a stripped suit or jeans and a leather jacket. His appearance changes as needed.

Payday

Wildcard
Costume Description: As Payday (Before Training): Most heists/job tended to be incognito, suits and masks, never the same mask. Sometimes armor is worn and specialized equipment is used, guns as well but only as a last resort and only to suppress a threat.

As Wildcard: Despite having access to his estranged father's money, Joe refused it and any part of his legacy. The W. in his nicknamed almost seemed to taunt him at every turn, a part of his anger still lingering. His outfit was financed by what little he kept before going off to train. The suit, while colorful in appearance, is woven to shift colors as needed and reinforced with top of the line plating to resist/repel the impact of standard guns and melee weapons. Mounted grappling lines attached to both his wrist and ankles permit him to escape, repel or climb buildings stealthy. The mask changes from time to time but keeps a constant motif, a court jester.

Personality: Joseph doesn't have a personality, or at least one someone can sort into a little list. He has proven himself intelligent, characteristic or at the least manipulative enough to lead a crew. Maybe it was for the pay out, but either way he was running crews and getting away when criminals twice his age were unable to to tell their ass from their heads. He is definitely the Brains of the operation. Selfish and prideful to a certain degree, he is careful to split the loot fairly since good help is hard to find.

Powers/Weapons:
Sickle and chains- Wildcards weapon of choice, preferring to use martial weapons over guns. The sickle and chain is used as both a weapon and a tool that can be used to climb, repel and escape and works in sync with the wrist and ankle mounted grappling lines. When used alongside his uncanny agility and training, it creates an unpredictable fighting style that mixes capoeira, standard martial arts and his own unique style that keeps opponent guessing from what direction he will attack from next (if they are alive long after the initial engagement).

Supernaturally good sense of timing.-Whether granted or passed down from his mentor or a little bit of those Wayne genes paying off. Joseph has a great sense of timing, his schemes, plans that might seem doomed or failed somehow ends up working out in the end. So maybe he didn't get away with the jewels or the money but he managed to get away to steal another day.

Luck - A fickle mistress, but it tends to be on his side. Unless Gordon or Batman are involved...

Indomitable Will- unnaturally strong willpower, granting him resistance (to start) to all forms of temptation including subordination manipulation, telepathy, mind control and subliminal seduction. Able to suppress pain to an extent, his limits only being those of his human body. Now if only he can find a way to get his hands on one of those green rings...

Intellect - Even without the same opportunities other children took for granted, Joseph honed his knowledge through various mentors and various forms of self study. He might not know or care who ruled Egypt at the dawn of mankind but if there was a artifact to steal he might brush up and learn a few things. His knowledge base spans everything from what weapons come out of what countries to what type of locking mechanism a certain safe contains. A jack of all trades in that regard, give him enough time and he will figure it out, sometimes faster than you would expect.

Trained Assassin - Sent off to train with the league of assassins or jail. For a time he almost wished for death as he was pushed to the brink of his own by those appointed to him.  Demolitions, poisoning, subtly, espionage and everything in between to hone him into an assassin that would put other secret organizations to shame.

"Daddy's Belt, Joker's toy chest" Utility Belt - Various utility items with a twisted sense of humor. Bombs, smoke or duds, bobby trapped devices or make shift weapons. Vials of poison and random bag of skittles, who knows what one will find in Wildcard's arsenal.

Weakness: Human - Joseph is a human at peak agility and speed. He is weak to anything else humans are, his skin is not stronger or resistance, his bones will break and he bleeds, often.

Sanity- Not quite there to begin with, a few screws came lose during his time with the League. He is unpredictable at times or a different person all together.

Pride - It gets the best of him.

Trouble - He just can't seem to get away from it.

With no one else around to help, Jon shape-shifted into 'Superboy' and, using telekinesis, caught the airplane before it could crash, saving all of its passengers.

He also has a white martian form that he has no idea how to access as of yet.

Hey Aiden!

Do you think it's possible that the Wayne family had two children and one went missing--rather than being swapped at birth. I hate to be a stickler, but I really wanted to keep my blood relation with the Wayne family.

I'm more than willing to work something out so it's fun for both of us!

Edit: Or it could be one of those twin situations. Maybe one 'died at birth' aka, Joker nabbed an infant and made it look like natural causes as to why a twin would die. I want you to be able to keep the essence of your character, because its cool!

Scarab
Brendan "Dan" Garrett

Origin Story:
Long ago in a galaxy far, far away (oh, and in a different universe altogether), Khaji Da was exiled from the Reach. While the Reach of this universe were a space-faring empire of conquest, the cyberorganic scarabs were not the tools of the Reach in this universe; rather, the cyberorganic scarabs were the Reach, parasites that wielded their hosts as tools and weapons of conquest until they were burnt out husks of their former selves, before moving onto the next host.

Khaji Da was an apostate and a heretic, wishing a permanent bond with its hosts, to have a symbiotic relationship with them, rather than a parasitic one, and so was sent into exile far from the furthest reaches of the empire.

Khaji Da landed on Earth, where it was discovered by the archaeologist Daniel "Dan" Garrett. Garrett was all too happy to bond with Khaji Da, wielding its tremendous power to become the Scarab, a fearsome outlaw. As time carried on, the line between Garrett and Khaji Da became increasingly blurred, so much so that even when Garrett perished in a battle with the heroes of Earth, Khaji Da had become more aggressive. Having fallen in love with Garrett, Khaji Da sought out the next best thing when he died – another of Garrett's bloodline, in this case, Garrett's bastard son.

Whether it was Khaji Da's influence, whether the apple hadn't fallen far from the tree, or both, Garrett's successor used the power of Khaji Da to follow the same life of crime that the first Scarab had, eventually joining the infamous Crime Syndicate and climbing the ranks to become one of their lieutenants.

When the Crime Syndicate discovered parallel Earths and staged an invasion, Scarab perished in the attempt, dying at the hands of a supervillain1 unwilling to allow the Crime Syndicate to conquer the world; many supervillains of this parallel Earth felt that if they couldn't conquer the world, they certainly weren't about to allow interlopers from a parallel Earth to claim the prize.

Again, Khaji Da sought out a new host, the most viable candidate of those who carried the bloodline of this Earth's Dan Garrett. It found Brendan Garrett, grandson of the first superhero to claim the nom de guerre Blue Beetle. While not a masked vigilante like his grandfather, the mild-mannered Brendan Garrett did good work as a seasoned EMT.

While finding himself bonded to an alien scarab was disconcerting, Brendan immediately sought out the current bearer of the title 'Blue Beetle', Jaime Reyes, who, in turn, brought the matter to the attention of the Justice League.

Despite immediate suspicions that the Reach might be plotting another invasion or revenge against Jaime Reyes and his scarab, it was quickly determined that the origin of Brendan's scarab was the same universe from which the Crime Syndicate had invaded.

While wary, they were unable to remove Khaji Da without killing Brendan, and despite some dissenting opinions within the League, the general consensus was that Brendan should not be imprisoned when he had done nothing wrong, only monitored closely.

Taken under the wing of Jaime Reyes, Brendan began training alongside him to master the Khaji Da's powers, and recently has even started to have costumed adventures of his own.

1 I figure this can be one of the villains from our `rogues gallery`.

Home City:

Civilian Appearance/Style Description:
Brendan dresses for the occasion. On a day when nothing in particular is required of him, however, he'll probably wear jeans and a t-shirt with a superhero's symbol on it, possibly with an open, short-sleeved collared shirt over it. In colder weather, he may be seen wearing sweaters.

Costume Description: [1]

Personality:
Until Khaji Da came into his life, Brendan was a mild-mannered young man. It was a great sense of compassion that led him to becoming an EMT, a role he proved well-suited for. However, since becoming bonded to Khaji Da, Brendan's aggression has increased and he has started to demonstrate a lessening of impulse control. He has taken up Tai Chi and meditation in an attempt to mitigate Khaji Da's influence, and while the results have been promising, he is not back to his old self, only closer to who he was before.

Powers/Weapons:
Scarab's powers are, for the most part, functionally identical to those of Blue Beetle.

Danger Sense: Khaji Da is constantly scanning the surrounding for threats to Brendan's person. However, so far, Brendan hasn't been bonded to Khaji Da long enough to parse what Khaji Da is trying to communicate to him, save for a heightened awareness of danger.

Exoskeleton Armor: Once deployed, the exoskeleton armor grants Scarab enhanced durability and enhanced strength.

Armaments: Brendan may direct the forearms of the exoskeleton to take on a variety of forms, including a sonic cannon, an energy blaster, scythe-like blades, a mace, a battering ram, a lockpick, and a staple gun.

Flight: Use of the exoskeleton grants Brendan flight.

Holograms: Brendan may use the exoskeleton to project holograms. Their nature as holograms is patently obvious and could not be mistaken for anything other than holograms.

Technological Interface: Brendan may use the exoskeleton to interface with technology, including alien technology, with the exception of technology originating from the New Gods (Apokalips & New Genesis).

Weakness:

Aggression & Poor Impulse Control: As discussed above, due to Khaji Da's influence, Brendan, formerly mild-mannered, has become more aggressive, demonstrating less ability to control his impulses. Khaji Da's influence becomes even more pronounced when Brendan is actively using Khaji Da's powers.

Empathic: Unlike Jaime Reyes' scarab, Khaji Da is not capable of communicating via speech or telepathy. It can convey its emotions only to Brendan, which often manifest as 'instincts'. So far, Brendan lacks the experience to parse what Khaji Da is trying to communicate to him, save for a heightened awareness of danger. As a result, Khaji Da is also unable to serve as a universal translator in the same manner as Jaime Reyes' scarab.

Though Khaji Da tries to communicate with Brendan through dreams, the scarab's mind is alien to Brendan, and it has thus far been unsuccessful at making itself comprehensible to him.

Suit Up: Aside from his danger sense, Brendan is unable to access any of Khaji Da's powers unless the exoskeleton is deployed. As such, he is not particularly well-suited for missions that would require him to conceal the involvement of the Justice Heroes. Furthermore, deploying the exoskeleton in front of the public would carry a significant risk of outing Brendan as Scarab.

Of Two Minds: While Khaji Da desperately wants to keep Brendan alive, they have their differences on methodology. While Khaji Da generally does as Brendan directs, Khaji Da doesn't understand Brendan's reluctance to use lethal force. Should Brendan's directives put him at serious risk of death (for instance, risking his life by refusing to deploy the exoskeleton or by refusing to use lethal force against a superior foe), Khaji Da may temporarily override Brendan's will.

Ohh I didn't mean to close off the Wayne family. Joker swapped knew or found out about this kid and did the good old switcharoo.

I'm not sure if your girl is younger or older than Joe, I kept it vague for that reason. If you want to do the twin idea that might give him some magical powers or in the future?

Whatever seems more fun to you! I kept Zoe's age vague as well, so we can match up their ages--if you'd like.

I'm thinking that magic can also manifest in different ways, which could be already showing through with Joe. Maybe that's also why his luck is so good,  part of the magic!

@Aiden, your sheet looks good but I think the backstory needs some tweaking. My two main points would be:

1 - I don't think it would be realistic to say that Batman would not know about a son out there in the wild. I can be convinced out of this point, but I think your har acted works fine without being biologically related to Bruce Wayne.

2 - He is, like you said, very underpowered right now. I would give him more.

3 - Sorry, three things, the Young Justice group are not "new heroes", they're basically amateurs which are getting their first bite at the apple for the big League. Like being an amateur baseball star and now auditioning for a pro-team. I would add a section to the backstory which indicates him spending some amount of time, maybe a year or two, as a good guy defending Gotham

@ Rel - You don't think this would be encroaching to much into your magical realm? The Twin idea is something I could do, they are polar opposite. Or I can do something like...Maybe Joker has a baby also with Zaltanna. We don't need to be siblings, I feel Joe will be on opposite ends with just about every other prep school rich kid.  XD

1. The Wayne connection I can do without, I just wanted to make make the next generation of Joker vs Batman. More so after Rel offered potential plotting. I still want to be a heir-apparent to Joker. Who know, him being a good guy might all just be in the scheme of things. (Not that he would betray the team over the course of the game)

2. I Will have to think of something. Maybe have him trained after he was caught or if I keep the Al-ghul connection....get trained by the League? I am mostly thinking out loud at this time.

3. Tied to number two, I was hoping to be the hesitant hero type. I think Joe prefers being a bad guy to a hero.  XD

Its been heavily hinted at in the recent comics that Harley had Joker's daughter but he didn't give a shit. TOo busy being Joker, so Harley left her daughter somewhere safe.

So that's also an option.

@Aiden, Just a note to your previous comment. I would question why a hesitant hero is bothering to join a team of heroes. Batman was basically strong armed in to joining the Justice League. Which makes sense given his reputation. But everyone in this team shpuld feel relatively excited about getting this opportunity. It's basically a promotion.

To be clear, I'm not at all saying he can't be the "not excited" one of the bunch. I would just like a pretty good reason to explain why the Justice League would select him when he wouldn't openly want to be a part of the team.

Also not actually canon. That's from the comic of Injustice: Gods Among Us, where Superman has instituted a totalitarian regime after the death of Lois Lane, their unborn child, and Metropolis as a result of the Joker's machinations.

I havn't redone the skills, if what I remade is acceptable I can do some work on that later when I wake up. I havent slept yet.

To answer your question -

Unlike a lot of the heroes in the YJ, he was always on the opposite spectrum. He was the havens and now he suddenly is in with all those  prep school, yacht clubbers. Holding his grudge against his own father, he is just holds onto his anger and in general....being a bad guy(ish) is more fun.  XD

Thanks Aiden, my last note would be to remove the section regarding Bruce's feelings about finding out about his son. I'd like to keep that secret for now.

Let me know when you have some ideas for powers! My recommendation would be to give him a Joker-esk Arsenal of equipment and gadgets.

Fiend Frenzy
Bradley Dawkins

Origin Story:  Bradley's father, the original Tasmanian Devil, struggled with the news that he was to be a father.  He worried that any child might carry with it the burden of his powers, forcing it to deal with the consequences of an, admittedly dubious, gift.  He, himself, had initially raged against his own abilities, and the bestial instincts that came with the shift.  It was difficult to learn to live with the animal inside, and he hated to think of his own child being forced to struggle in the way he once had.  But, despite his best efforts and the miracle of modern contraceptives, the matter was taken out of his hands.

The first twelve years of Bradley's life were fairly typical, or as typical as one's life can be when their father is a superhero.  Especially a were-Tasmanian devil superhero.  Which is to say, not typical at all.  Still, things got much more complicated when he started going through puberty.  For most boys this time of their life is hellish, all pimples, hormones and growing pains.  For Bradley, the biological nightmare was considerably more intense.  They simply do not cover waking up to find your sheets torn to shreds, or your ears suddenly going all furry and pointed, in health class.  Hugh had been a full-grown adult when he gained the ability to shift between his forms, so he had no idea how the actual process of growing into one's were-form would go.  Still, he was able to provide some much-needed support for his teenage were-devil.

Bradley was definitely not Michael J. Fox, and his high school experience was wildly different from Teen Wolf.  Still, he somehow managed to retain his humor throughout the uncomfortable transition from human boy, to meta-human adult.  His clever mind and sense of humor served him well, and he graduated with grades that would have secured him a place in most universities, had he any desire to get a higher education.  No, instead he decided to follow in his father's footsteps.  The old man wasn't getting any younger and his fighting days were rapidly coming to an end.  Bradley enlisted his father to teach him how to put his powers to their best use, to control the shifts and the inner animal.

Little did Bradley know that the end was nearer than he ever expected.  Prometheus attacked and captured his father, skinned him and then placed him in stasis, which is where he remains for the moment.  As far as anyone else knows, though, Hugh is dead.  Bradley mourned his father's passing, though any child of a superhero will tell you that they live with the knowledge that every battle could be the last.  Every villain could be the one that ends it all.  That doesn't make the reality any easier to bear.

Now, Bradley fights for his father, to protect the parents and children who should never feel the pain he has felt, or the fear that he remembers from his own childhood.  He yearns to rid the world of all villains, all threats, so no boy ever has to lay in bed and pray that his father will come home.

Home City:  Born in Sydney, Australia.

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Bradley favors casual attire, in the form of jeans, t-shirts and sneakers.  He's often been accused of woeful lack of personal grooming, due to his perpetually disheveled hair, wrinkled clothing and eternal five-o-clock shadow.  Even in his human form, however, no matter how laid-back and easy-going he may strive to appear, he moves with an uncanny dexterity and economy of movement, his steps making little to no sound.  He sometimes falls into an eerily preternatural stillness, like a predator stalking prey, almost without seeming to realize he is doing so.  Behind laughing brown eyes, lurks the animal within, always ready and waiting to be unleashed.

Costume Description: Fiend Frenzy doesn't really have a costume.  He shifts and Bradley's physical form alters greatly, becoming far more muscular, with a pelt of thick, black fur and small, pointed ears.  The only aspect of his appearance that one might consider 'costume' would be the signature white T on his chest and abdomen, but that's just a natural aspect of Tasmanian devil anatomy.

Personality:  Bradley is clever, quick-witted and laid-back.  The fact that he doesn't seem to take much seriously and spends half his time on pursuits of a less than productive nature, has been the cause of some friction with the more...studious and upright of his companions.  He's been known to fall into indecipherable Australian slang, with a notable intensification of his accent, whenever confronted by accusations of being a slacker or the source of some prank or another.  His perpetual grin and glittering eyes make it difficult for him to appear innocent, even if he is, since he finds the reactions of certain individuals to such things highly amusing.  Despite this, he is a demon in a fight, and when shifted his bestial nature makes for a more serious personality, though also a highly volatile and temperamental ally.  He is very cautious about his own temper, and often responds to serious confrontation between himself and his companions by trying to diffuse the tension.  If he does become angry, he will typically extract himself from the situation by whatever means necessary, to avoid losing control.  His greatest fear is losing his temper, or his self-control, and hurting one of his friends, or an innocent.

Powers/Weapons: Bradley's powers rely entirely upon his ability to shift into his meta-human Tasmanian Devil form.  When in that form, he has enhanced speed, strength, sharp claws, razor teeth and powerful jaws that allow for a punishing bite force.  His thick hide and tightly compacted musculature also serve to provide a measure of natural armor.  He also gains a far greater ability to track, or investigate, using scent.

Therianthropy: He can transform at will into a giant Tasmanian Devil, in which form he has razor sharp claws and fangs.
Superhuman Strength
Superhuman Speed: He can move fast enough to dodge bullets.
Claws: His claws can cut through steel.
Fangs
Natural Armor
Superhuman Sense of Smell

Weakness:  While shifted, Bradley's connection with his baser, more animal instincts is far stronger than when he is in his human form.  This makes him more vulnerable to mental attacks, since his willpower and higher reasoning is already at the mercy of his own bestial nature.

Thanks Aiden, my last note would be to remove the section regarding Bruce's feelings about finding out about his son. I'd like to keep that secret for now.

Let me know when you have some ideas for powers! My recommendation would be to give him a Joker-esk Arsenal of equipment and gadgets.

Will do!

Howdy everyone! I know applications are closed right now, but I wanted to go ahead and submit in case a spot opens over the next couple weeks.

The Beast
Henry Locke

Origin Story: Henry as he prefers to be called was born deep in a Cadmus cloning facility, an experiment to fuse human DNA with DNA from one of the Justice League's greatest threats ever- Doomsday. While the experiment was ultimately successful the function wasn't quite as intended. As the human DNA served as host, Henry's physical form is almost totally normal. However during moments of extreme pain or stress the latent mutant Kryptonian DNA activates transforming into a monstrosity similar but smaller in scale to the original horror. During a botched raid on the facility by sources unknown the power grid failed releasing the young meta into a hostile environment which triggered his transformation and the ultimate annihilation of the entire campus. The destruction would have likely continued unabated if not for the quick intervention of the Justice League who managed to defeat and return Henry to his human form. Unsure what to do with such a potentially dangerous individual, Henry spent several months imprisoned by the League for everyone's safety. While in his human form Henry proved to be docile enough, quickly taking to studying and discussing philosophy with anyone willing to engage him. After a time Henry began to show signs of learning to control his ability willingly prompting the league to instate him with the Justice Heroes under a very watchful eye.

Home City: None as Henry rarely travels without escort.

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Henry stands at 6'0 feet tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds, he has a wide but strong figure similar to a  young NFL linebacker. His hair is black and his eyes blue. When not on mission he can be found lazing about in shorts and a sleeveless shirt.

Costume Description: While on mission and still in his human form Henry wears no mask and black reinforced tactical pants and boots. On his torso he wears a heavy metal vest that seems strangely cumbersome. When he transforms into The Beast his physical features quickly devolve into that of Doomsday though a smaller less pronounced version, with his size growing, skin turning grey, and dense sharp bones bursting out from each joint forming a razor sharp exoskeleton. His vest activates upon transforming firing thick straps of hybrid titanium across his limbs restricting his movement and strength as a safety fallback should he lose control.

Personality: Empathetic and easy to smile, Henry is the kind of guy who can be anyone's friend. While he is realistic about what sort of expectations an abomination like he can have about life he lives for new experiences and deeply hopes to one day trust himself to be free in the world.

Powers/Weapons (Henry innately retains each of his abilities even in his human form, though at only 25% of his fully transformed capability)

Super Strength - The Beast's muscular density is extremely high. His physical output and strength astronomically exceeds that of humans. He can also achieve feats such as super-leaping which comes from his enhanced strength, though he is incapable of flight.
Super Speed - Despite his large size, The Beast can move, react and respond at superhuman speeds that cannot be easily followed.
Regeneration - The Beast can recover and heal himself from any physical injury at a rapid pace.
Razor Exoskeleton - The bone spurs that project from his joints after transforming are dense and sharp enough to pierce flesh, bone, and basic metals.

Weakness:

Kryptonite - Thanks to his partially Kryptonian DNA, Henry shares a weakness for the pale green element like Superman.
Restrictive Vest - As an insurance policy the Justice League provided Henry a vest made of the strongest metals which activates on his transformation restricting his abilities.
Beast Rage - Once transformed Henry's mental state becomes a ticking time bomb. Should he stay in the form too long he runs the risk of losing control and mindlessly attacking anything he sees moving.

Re-opening recruitment for this game for anyone who would like to join!

We have made a major change. The game will now be totally free-form, instead of being GM driven! Please let me know if you have any questions.

You are welcome to create a Lantern! I can't think of any Lantern specific rules off the top of my head. Just please mention in your backstory being assigned to Earth Sector, and the Justice League Alliance.

So specific colors are not off limits? Such as I wanna make a blue lantern.

Only the specific colors relating to evil, and even then I am fine with people creating villains.

A Blue Lantern would not be off limits!

Ok, so, I might be interested...Are you still recruiting? And if so, I just have one more question:

Is it strictly OC, or can I take on the role of a Canon Character? If the latter, would I be able to play around with AU / Time Hopping shenanigans?

We are still recruiting Vergil!

It is strictly OC, and time traveling shenanigans are fine depending on what we want to get out of it.

If we want to just have like a "old Wild West" episode, that's totally fine. But if you want to have it where things changed in the past affect the present day, that requires consent from me as the GM first, then from all of the players once I approve the idea.

Hrm, ok....well, would it change things if the character I wanted to create was effectively an OC?

Basically, what I wanted to do was play Mar'i Grayson - Starfire and Dick Graysons future daughter - from an AU, who ended up falling into this universe. She only appeared in one fairly short comic run, so her character was never really all that defined, and she's generally considered as a "What If" character and therefore kinda non-canon. Basically...I wanted to play Starfires daughter, and figured that since a "What If" character exists, I could take on her persona and alter the personality to my liking since there's not much on her. Would that....change the answer at all? :P Basically, can I play the kind-of-but-not-really-canon daughter of Starfire from an AU? :P

EDIT:

I'm not trying to be obstinate here, I'm just clarifying that I don't mean somebody established like WW or Bats or somebody like that...I'm talking about somebody who made one appearance (practically speaking) and then kinda disappeared and whose existence was never mentioned again. If the answer is still no, then I'll go and think about it some more, I just have some Commissioned Art of Mar'i that I need to find a use for. >.>

That idea sounds perfectly fine to me Vergil!

Also just another note to your original question about time travel, your AU character reminded me that I would also allow scenes that take place in a AU changed as a result of time travel. Separate from the main universe where the game takes place.

SWEET! C&Ping and Editing the bio now!

== Character Bio ==

== Personal Information ==

Legal Name: Mar'i Grayson / Mary Grayson / Mary Gray.
Alias: Nightstar
Age: 23
Sexuality: Bisexual
Residing In: Gotham Mid-Town (sometimes).

== Physical Description ==

Mar'i Grayson stands at roughly 5'11 - inheriting at least some of her mothers height - and is in possession of a slender, athletically curvaceous form thanks both to the rather exquisite genes donated to her by her parents, Dick Grayson and Koriand'r, and the focus that was emphasised in her youth on staying fit and healthy in order to best employ her natural abilities to defend the helpless and the vulnerable. She has long, smooth legs, a slender waist and has inherited her mothers Tamaranian tendency towards generous chests - Earth Measurements place her cup size at a rather shapely, perky set of 32D's - with a smooth and pleasantly shaped face. Long, black hair flows down about her face and shoulders down to her middle back in luscious, healthy curls and frames a pleasingly symmetrical face with a gently angled jawline. Her eyes are ordinarily by all appearances that of a normal human, deeply dazzling emerald green in colour but otherwise ordinary. However, they shift into a more Tamaranian solid green and glow brightly when she is feeling an intense emotion or using her abilities in any way. Much the same as her mother, she has an orange tint to her skin that sets her apart from other females, though thanks to the mixed breeding of her father, her skin is closer to a "natural" human olive than the outright bright orange-pink of a pureblood Tamaranian.

Civilian Wear:

Mar'i tends to favour jeans or short skirts and t-shirts when walking around town in her normal attire, thanks to their lack of restriction to movement compared to a dress and their comfort; she finds herself more at home in more "tomboyish" clothing than "girly girly" stuff, though she has been known to slip on a slinky dress if going somewhere posh or nice. She enjoys shopping despite her more tomboyish tastes, simply because she loves all of the choice that is afforded her in the Gotham high street, but she won't go anywhere near high heels unless going to a formal function; they're very, very difficult to move in and if she learned anything from Bruce, it was that mobility is always key.

Superheroine Wear:

Her costume is very, very simple; it's a single-piece purple half-robe, half-leotard like article of clothing, covering just her groin and backside in order to give her as much freedom in her legs as possible and stretching up and out to reveal an ample amount of cleavage in a low-cut V shape before cresting the shoulders and flowing down her arms in a pair of purple loose-ish fitting sleeves that end in blue arm bracers. Her outfit is accentuated here and there by bits of blueish-indigo trimmings and in one place, a belt, and she tends to use a Tamaranian-style circlet of the same colour with a purple star set into it over her forehead and around her scalp to hold her hair out of her face when fighting and flying. She tends to also wear a pair of dark purple and blueish-indogo-trimmed, thigh high boots to protect the soles of her feet and her lower legs.

== Persona ==

Despite her complicated past and her rather unique circumstances, Mar'i tries to retain the outgoing, good natured persona that she left her own timeline with, despite all the hardships. She tries to offer support to those she considers friends, and believes that loyalty, honesty and dependability are the most important things that you can offer those you love. She is very strict in her high standards, holding others to them just as much as she does herself, probably due in large part to her own experiences with the matter. Being a young girl of the "Next Generation" and being from a family with a kind, understanding mother - from what Mar'i can remember, anyway - and a distant, if caring, father, Mar'i is a bit more free with her sexuality than you would imagine from a woman of her age and her alien heritage. Being raised on Earth of course helped that latter issue, but she is - despite her sexual liberation - afraid and wary of getting emotionally close to anybody in this timeline, for obvious reasons given her history. She is loyal but slow to trust, passionate in her interests and intense in her desires but guarded about her own identity - she can't let anybody know who she really is, for fear of what might happen to the timestreams - and fiercely determined to live up to the values and beliefs of those she left behind. She forcibly keeps a cheerful disposition despite the ennui that she feels inside sometimes, and though she largely keeps a brave front up, she is susceptible to bouts of depression and melancholy which is, perhaps, to be expected. Despite her friendly nature, she has a certain edge to her that sometimes makes her come across as a little harsh in her dealings with people, and definitely makes her seem a tad overzealous when fighting criminals and supervillains. She hasn't seriously hurt anybody yet, but she apparently doesn't know how to hold her anger and sorrow in check enough to hold herself back in a fight. Similarly, if somebody breaches trust or betrays family or anything that goes contrary to what she holds dear, they'll soon know just how quickly that friendly disposition can change into one of unimpressed iciness and sometimes outright fury. She may be friendly...but she's far from a pushover, and she has that edge to her that makes her more dangerous than you may otherwise think.

Though she has largely given up on returning home, she has pointedly and determinedly not lost hope; she will make her own life in this new Timeline, and try to prevent the same thing that ruined her old home from happening in this one. She has taken up a job as a waitress in a burger restaurant close to where she lives - and the crime rate has mysteriously sharply dropped since her arrival; imagine that - and lives in a one-bedroom apartment just down the street. She makes enough money from her job and her tips - she's a very good waitress, and knows just who to flirt with to get a bit extra; just because she's good natured doesn't mean she won't take advantage of the obvious tricks of the trade...a gal needs to eat, after all! - to get by, and her "night life" both social and Vigilante provides plenty of chances for excitement and meeting new people. She's content, for the moment, while she figures out her long term plan. She misses her home...but she's stuck in this Timeline, so she may as well make the most of it. It's what her family would want for her.

== Powers And Abilities ==

- Tamaranean Physiology: As a Tamaranean, Mar'i has the same abilities as her mother, Koriand'r, that are granted by to her alien physiology. However, she is markedly weaker than her mother due to the dilution of her genetics with a human (Dick). These are, specifically, as follows:

-- Nightstar's physiology means that her body constantly absorbs ultraviolet radiation from her surroundings and converts it internally into energy.

-- Energy Absorption: Nightstar is able to absorb the ultraviolet energy from other lifeforms in order to restock her own supply of energy more rapidly and allow her to use larger levels of power at once.

-- Flight: Nightstar is able to use her internal energy to take flight at extreme speeds, though not yet as fast as her mother was able to during her prime. Much like her mother, her flight leaves purple corntrails behind her that appear to originate in her hair.

-- Starbolts: What was done to her mother was done on the genetic level, meaning that her offspring - Mar'i - can also use versions of her mothers Starbolts, converting the internally collected UV Radiation into powerful external blasts of energy. These Starbolts are slightly stronger than her mothers and more versatile; being born with them has apparently strengthened the Genetic Manipulations effect. She appears to lack the ability to produce the "Nova Blast" that her mother was capable of, however.

-- Superhuman Durability: Thanks to her alien heritage, Nightstar is able to shrug off blows that would incapacitate a normal human. Whilst not as durable as some - for example, Superman or Wonder Woman - she can still walk off wounds that would land normal humans in the hospital.

-- Superhuman Strength: She is able to hit harder and lift heavier weights than her size would suggest. Her mother - in her prime - was able to lift in excess of 100 tons on some occasions....alas, being half-human, Mar'i lacks that sheer physical power though she can still clock in at a respectable 50 tons, if she pushes herself.

-- Language Assimilation: Like her mother and every other Tamaranian, she has the ability to learn new languages through touch, though being a half breed, she cannot do so instantaneously; she must maintain the contact for slightly longer than a full-blooded Tamaranian. She tends to agree with her mothers old philosophy on this one; kissing is, generally speaking, a lot more enjoyable than just touching somebodies hand. Especially if they're cute.

Other:

-- Through intensive training with Bruce Wayne, Nightstar has gained an impressive resistance to mental attacks and psychic readings. Whilst not immune, she is as resistant to it as a non-telepath can be without having a super power specifically directed at it.

-- Her brief time with Bruce Wayne and her few interactions with her father earned her basic lessons in self defence. Whilst she is unlikely to be able to take on people such as Nightwing, Starfire, Ra's Al Ghul or Deathstroke in single hand-to-hand combat with any efficacy, she knows enough to get by.

== Background ==

Mar'i Grayson was born to Koriand'r and Dick Grayson - Starfire and Nightwing (Formerly Red Robin) - on 27th April, 2027 in a small town just outside Metropolis. Her early life was relatively quiet as Koriand'r and Dick attempted to raise her in a normal, quiet, peaceful environment whilst striving to teach her about her powers as she grew up rather than leaving her to figure them out on her own. She went to pre-school, then primary school, played with her friends and only occasionally wondered where her parents went every so often in the middle of the night. Her parents, for their part, mostly retired from Vigilante work - only going on occasional patrols if they heard something unsettling, or only going after specific criminals if they passed through - in order to avoid orphaning their daughter. Ironically, it wasn't a super villain or a gang war or a secret government organisation that ended up doing that; it was nature. When Mar'i was only eleven years old, Koriand'r was diagnosed with an untreatable, unknown alien version of circulatory disease. Despite copious donations from the Wayne Empire and dozens of favours being called in from the extended Justice League family, Koriand'r passed away when Mar'i was only 13. Dick withdrew inside himself at her death, unable to properly cope with losing the woman he thought he would be spending his life with, throwing himself back into his vigilante work as a way to distract himself at the cost of neglecting his daughter. Thankfully, Mari's adopted grandfather Bruce Wayne - who knew first hand what it was like growing up without parents - stepped in to effectively raise the girl on his own, doing his best to reinforce and cultivate the values of loyalty, kindness and compassion that her parents had started to instil in her...of course, some of Bruce Wayne's own old personality rubbed off on her, and she soon set out as a vigilante in her own right.

When she reached the age of 18 - and after a couple of years of Bruce desperately combating his most dangerous foe yet; a teenage daughter - she had come to not despise her biological father but instead pity him, though their relationship was admittedly rather strained due to his years of neglect. He, to his credit, realised upon meeting her on the streets of Star City how much he had missed and how much he had ended up wallowing in his own self pity, and tried to make amends...but Mar'i was of the opinion that it was too little, too late. Though she didn't dislike her father, she also didn't have time for him. Why should she, when he never made time for her? Unfortunately, the family squabble was about to get worse...when Kansas was destroyed by an unknown assailant, two rival Hero groups emerged from the ashes; Superman stepped out of retirement to reform the Justice League, which Dick joined, and Bruce Wayne similarly re-donned the Cowl to head up "The Outsiders," a group of slightly more shadowy and obscure young heroes whose methods sometimes got under the JL's skin. Just as conflict between the two groups began to boil over into full-scale war...history diverged, as it so often does. Brainiac, finally recovered from his final defeat at the hands of the JLA and the united heroes of Earth thirty years previously, returned and attacked the Earth. Over the course of two years, the JL and The Outsiders were forced to put aside their differences to fight against him...and soon enough, Mar'i and Dick were, after a fashion, reconciled after Bruce Wayne fell in battle and Dick managed to retreat with a screaming Mar'i over his shoulder.

Whilst Brainiac was eventually defeated...it took the life of Dick, too, only half a year after he and his daughter had begun to rebuild their relationship. Mar'i was devastated and, in a typical display of raw Tamaranian rage, attempted to attack the remnants of Brainiacs exploding ship in an attempt to ensure that he was really, truly dead this time...and the Quantum Drive chose that exact moment to detonate, flooding the space above Earth with hundreds of different variations of radiation, most of which was at that point completely unknown to humankind. The explosion caught Mar'i in a Quantum Fluctuation that tore a hole in space and time and pushed her through it, through to an entirely different version of reality. She found herself not only in a different time - 2015, to be precise - but a completely different timeline where Brainiac hadn't yet attacked and where Dick Grayson had not settled down with her mother, Koriand'r. Crucially for Mar'i...all her loved ones were alive. Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson....Koriand'r. But it was....different. These people were not her family, not the people she knew and she couldn't fully convince herself that these people would serve as adequate replacements to what she lost. This Bruce Wayne was not her firm-but-loving grandfather; he was a tough, brooding, brutal vigilante. This Dick Grayson was not her flawed-but-noble father, struggling to make amends for his mistakes; he was a still-fresh, idealistic youth with his entire life ahead of him. Kori wasn't her doting, loving, sweet mother...she was a carefree young woman in the prime of her life, enjoying her youth while she could. These people, whilst wearing familiar faces, were utter strangers to her and she couldn't bring herself to see them as anything more than pale imitations of what she once knew. The pain of seeing them so close and yet so far, the ache of saying hello and not being recognised by her own family...the thought was too much to bear. And so she ran. She ran far away from them, sinking into a deep ennui as she tried to figure out what her place was in this new, strange, lonely world...this literal universe where nobody knew or cared about her at all.

But one day, she snapped. She was buying milk at the local grocery store when a youth - barely 18, by her reckoning - held the owner up at gunpoint and attempted to rob the place. Mar'i could have stepped in, fists and Starbolts swinging, but she recognised that desperate, wild look...that lonely, guarded posture he held...he was scared, he was desperate and he was doing the only thing he could think of to alleviate his pain. And so...she talked to him. Listened to him. It might sound naive, but on this occasion, she managed to persuade him that it wasn't what he wanted or needed, that he needed to leave quietly and think carefully about what he actually needed....and she, in that moment five months after she first arrive, realised what she needed; she was a hero at heart, and the emptiness she felt inside would only be filled by doing what she loved, what she was meant to do, and through it, gaining new friends and family. It would be tough and she would never truly replace her family, but she would not dishonour their memory any more than she already had by wallowing in self pity and despair. She was lonely, yes...but she didn't have to be. Neither of her parents or her grandfather would want that, and even if she never saw them again, she would do them proud. That was what she wanted, what she needed...to be the woman they would want her to be.

So, she resumed her vigilante work. She spent the next few months getting used to the new world and the new timeline, getting used to the new villains and the familiar yet younger faces around her. She couldn't let her parents know that they're her parents in another timeline - it might screw this one up, for all she knew - so she adopted the last name "Gray" and established a cover as the daughter of a deceased Tamaranean exile who died when she was young...not a lie per say, but far enough away from the truth that nobody should suspect much. Then...she got to work. It is now late 2016, over a year after her first arrival in this universe and she has been extremely busy. She made a great effort to establish herself as a Hero in the community and forge links with the other local heroes in order to try and build a life for herself here...the chances of successfully getting back to the first alternate universe are slim to none, so her friends and family may as well all be dead. She needs to create a new life, a new family, new friends...or she'll never make it through the crushing bouts of despair that hit her when she stops to think about what she's lost.

CyBuster
Jake Gordon

Origin Story: A son to the famous Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl... however most of his childhood didn't feel like he was a 'son'. Due to his sibling being the more 'talented' and more than capable of being the next 'BatGirl', Jake was often left out while the other was being trained to take on the mantle. While he keeps an 'Nah it's okay' style face he's actually extremely bitter about it. To take his mind off of it, he spent most of his free time playing Basketball or more importantly, the bevy of online games he would play with his school friends. It seemed like a simple hobby, however he was trying to play out his own fantasies of being a hero and reaching high scores in order to get SOME kind of recognition. One day however, him and his friends received an invitation to try out a prototype social media service. However upon clicking accept, a blast of light exploded from the computer, sucking the boy inside his computer. Being the only one who actually clicked the 'Accept' button, he had to fend for himself as viruses and harmful programs tried to corrupt him. Thankfully they were soon blasted with the help of a program sent by Victor Stone, AKA Cyborg. While the veteran hero wasn't able to figure the source of the bizarre phenomena, he began giving support to Jake by making programs called 'Buster.Exes' (well Jake calls them that anyway). As Victor worked on a way to bring Jake back into the physical world, the boy was tasked to scan through cyber space to take down viruses and hackers. After about four months of this, Victor was able to bring Jake back to the world... mostly. A malfunction occurred causing Jake's body to be both physical and digital... a sort of living computer. He was still able to use his Buster.Exes. However this does have some caveats... Cyborg strongly advised the 'Digital Human' to join the new generation of heroes. The thought was that while Victor tried to figure a way to fully restore the boy, he could still use his abilities for good.

Home City: Originally from Gotham but due to his 'circumstances' he's been mostly fighting in cyber space. He's only just recently gained a semi physical body thanks for Victor Stone.

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: He stands about 5'6" and weighs about 210. He sports his mother's red hair, although cut kinda short he still keeps it kinda messy. While he seems normal, there are moments in which his digital half begins to show. For example, when he gets cut, the wound will have a faint blue glow to it with white data lines leaking out. Most prominently is that a console command center is always on his left arm. This allows him to access his Buster.Exes and his Buster Form.

Costume Description: See Picture

Personality: He tends to come off as bit of a hot head. Always acting before thinking and generally getting into trouble because of it. But when he's around family, he tends to be a bit more withdrawn... possibly due to a rather large inferiority complex. This tends to come up at pretty bad times and because of it, whenever he fails something, he tends to take to pretty hard. However behind that you'll find a very valuable ally.

Powers/Weapons:
Hack Jump: Due to his circumstances, Jake can perform a 'Hack Jump' where he can fully digitize himself and go inside computers and most electronics. Useful for Hacking or for quick traveling.
Buster.Exe
His main armaments. These are various programs given to him by Cyborg that allow him to fight. Only problem right now is that after he was brought back to the real world many of his programs became corrupted or flat out deleted.
Currently he has
Sword.Exe: Manifests a stylish short blade
Gun.Exe: A pistol like weapon with three fire modes
Helper.Exe: Summons a spherical drone that acts as a sentry for him.
Fist.Exe: covers his left arm with a large metal fist.

Currently Victor is working on making more programs for him to use.

Weakness: Due to technically being a computer, Jake can go through the usual issues that most devices go through. These can include overheating, freezing, viruses and even straight out crashing. These can unfortunately become frequent without periodical firmware updates provided by Victor.

That's awful Master! I hate it when stuff like that happens.

Since the game is free-form I am quite lenient on sheets now, really all I'm looking for is that someone isn't god-modding and that backstories don't conflict with other characters. If you want to throw something super simple and quick together (with just a few sentences) I would be OK with you adding the rest in later.

Your character
SWEET! C&Ping and Editing the bio now!

== Character Bio ==

== Personal Information ==

Legal Name: Mar'i Grayson / Mary Grayson / Mary Gray.
Alias: Nightstar
Age: 23
Sexuality: Bisexual
Part of Gotham Residing In: Gotham Mid-Town.

== Physical Description ==

She has long, smooth legs, a slender waist and a modestly generous chest - Earth Measurements place her cup size at 32C - with a smooth and pleasantly shaped face. Long, black hair flows down about her face and shoulders down to her middle back in luscious, healthy curls and frames a pleasingly symmetrical face with a gently angled jawline. Her eyes are a brilliant emerald green - inherited from her mothers Tamaranian physiology - that glow brightly when she is feeling an intense emotion or using her abilities in any way.

== Persona ==

== Powers And Abilities ==

== Background ==

THERE WE GO! So! Is that kewl?

@Vergil and Totes, your sheets look great guys! One note about your backstory Vergil. One of our character Zoe Wayne is the biological daughter of Bruce Wayne. Since you are from a AU, it's OK if you want to keep the bit about being raised by Bruce in your backstory. But this universe's Bruce would not treat Mar'i like a daughter, since he has one.

Unless you and Rel want to discuss, and say that Mar'i lives with them or something! It's up to you guys

Heya Vergil!

Here is my character sheet for Zoe. I do think that there are a few things that you mentioned in your history which would conflict with Zoe Wayne. She's publicly Bruce Wayne's daughter, so that may conflict. How tied are you to having Bruce Wayne be part of her development?

I'd also like to mention that there is another tie to Bruce Wayne with Joe, as well. It may be pushing it to have Bruce basically running an orphanage and raising all these kids on top of all his other duties.

Oh, his ties to Joe and Zoe won't be an issue; in the AU she came from, Wayne never had any kids so raised her as her grandfather HOWEVER it is mentioned in her backstory that in this new AU, she hasn't so much as approached Bruce, Kori or Dick due to her not thinking she could handle dealing with a "stranger with a familiar face." I took into account the differences in the universes, don't worry :-) This universes Bruce Wayne has likely never even met Mar'i, since she consciously stayed away from him. So no issue there. :-) Not to say that she won't meet him at some point in-game, but right now? She hasn't gone to find this universes versions of her parents or grandfather yet. So no clashes are in effect! She may have met Joe and Zoe, of course, though she wouldn't have gone out of her way to do so for fear of meeting Wayne. :P So thanks for the heads up and the info, but I'm waaaaaay ahead of you on that note. ;)

So, am I kewl to put the character in the Character Sheet thread and pop up in the OOC, then? :-)  Also, did you want me to alter my bio to match the layout of the other ones, or am I ok to keep it in its current form? Just checking :-)

Also, really the only issue I have is just having another character join the game with a similar past.

Again, that was gone over in her backstory. :-) Basically, Braniac attacked, Braniacs ship got wrecked, Dick died and Mar'i went Berserk, got caught in the explosion of Brainiac's ship and the ensuing radiation and explosion of his advanced technology tore open a wormhole-like thing that she fell through and somehow landed in an Alternate Universe.

So...how is Mar'i's history similar to one in the game ATM? I thought that as far as Backstories go, losing your mother to an alien disease, having your father withdraw and then being raised by your emotionally challenged Grandfather, THEN fighting said father, THEN falling through a hole in the universe going back in time and to a different universe entirely was pretty unique. :P

My issue is that I feel like this was a previously made character that is using the AU to kinda adapt to Gotham. I just wish there was more that could relate this character to the game, that way interactions would be a bit more genuine. Plus, we put a lot of thought into our characters to make something that works with the world, so when a potential new character comes in without taking a gander of how that may interfere with other characters--it's what makes me feel uncomfortable.

Also, consider this. Your character interacting with Bruce Wayne's potential children, but the current IC Bruce Wayne would know nothing, absolutely nothing of your character's world. Basically it nullifies your character's history and takes a bit of depth away.

Personally, that is how I feel.

Edit: Not that I am trying to be harsh, but if you want to join this game I want to make sure that you have characters that are willing to adapt and write with you. The way you've currently made your character--I just see so much conflict that would potentially destroy your enjoyment of the game. I think that with just a few changes, you could have a character that would work in this setting that everyone would enjoy writing alongside.

This is true, but in my defence, Mar'i only appeared in a very short Comic Run...her personality wasn't exactly given the limelight, and there were only hints as to what she was like on a deeper, more layered level. So it isn't (at least in my opinion) a case of bringing an established character with loads of baggage in...it's just adopting a character that was kinda sorta canon but only appeared once or twice and giving her more attention.

I just wish there was more that could relate this character to the game, that way interactions would be a bit more genuine.

I'm....not certain I understand this point. How would Mar'i's interactions with the other characters be "less genuine" due to her backstory?

Plus, we put a lot of thought into our characters to make something that works with the world, so when a potential new character comes in without taking a gander of how that may interfere with other characters--it's what makes me feel uncomfortable.

Well...in a case of actual irony, I was actually trying to avoid interfering with everybody elses characters. I wanted to play Starfire's daughter anyway, but figured that the obvious eventual father would be Dick Grayson (which also led to me thinking "Why not just use the kid that was already kinda confirmed anyway?")...which would tie her to Bruce Wayne, when there's already a decent amount of Wayne-related kids floating around, so I went with the AU option to sidestep that issue. In the AU, she was indeed close to Wayne, but in this Universe, she literally doesn't exist without AU-Hopping-FunTM which means that none of the Wayne Kids have to change anything to accommodate her existence. That way, I get my Starfire Daughter and the Wayne Kids don't get anything treading on their toes or tripping them up or forcing edits.

Also, consider this. Your character interacting with Bruce Wayne's potential children, but the current IC Bruce Wayne would know nothing, absolutely nothing of your character's world. Basically it nullifies your character's history and takes a bit of depth away.

I disagree wholeheartedly; sure, it takes away the depth of "Oh look, we're sisters / cousins / aunts / Whatever," sure, but it adds a depth in a very different way; they're related to Wayne, which would ordinarily make them family...something that Mar'i has lost ALL of. Her mother, her father, her grandfather, the guy she was starting to grow attached to, her BFF's, EVERYBODY close to her...and now she's in an AU where all these people are alive. Well, most of them. Plus, she finds that in this AU, Wayne has been a bit...um... "Busier," so she TECHNICALLY has...what would they be? Aunts and Uncles, cousins? In any case, she technically has more relatives...except they've never met her before, they've never even heard of her before and she knows literally nothing about them. They're strangers wearing familiar skins. They're strangers with names that should be familiar to her, if she had only been born in a different Universe, and she can't bear the idea of going to see her surviving family and have them not know who she is. Imagine going to visit your mother - who died when you were little - only she has NO idea who you are. That would KILL me, I dunno about you. And she can't even really get close to the family she doesn't yet know easily, since that risks her then running into the family she's avoiding, so she has family nearby....yet it might as well be on the other side of the planet for all it matters. So it adds depth in that they don't know anything about her, and she's deliberately trying to keep her distance whilst constantly being drawn towards them despite how painful it will inevitably be for her. That, for me, adds a hell of a lot of depth and drama that I personally am looking forward to exploring. Even more awkward if one of them tries hitting on her. >.> XD

The problem with me removing Wayne entirely is that...well, I'd have to then rewrite ALL of her backstory to make it believable, since if Starfire died and Dick went mental (which, let's be fair, isn't exactly a stretch; he's never been the most emotionally stable person in the DCU), of COURSE Wayne would step in and say "No, I grew up as an orphan, I am NOT letting that happen to my adopted sons daughter." So taking that out would mean taking out Dick as the father, and...well, I've never really believed Starfire with anybody else. Oh, it's fun to write scenes with her opposite people like Aquaman and Beast Boy and whatnot, but in comics, I've always liked Starfire and Dick as a couple. But that's just my own personal bias talking. :P

The way you've currently made your character--I just see so much conflict that would potentially destroy your enjoyment of the game. I think that with just a few changes, you could have a character that would work in this setting that everyone would enjoy writing alongside.

What kind of conflict? I mean...I'm not intending to stir anything up and I don't mind her not really having many connections at the start of the game. Part of the fun is bouncing of characters and seeing how they interact. Are you saying that right now, you don't think that you would enjoy writing alongside her? If so...what kind of edits would you want to see made?

It's fine. I'll figure out how to make it work on my end.

I was just trying to find a middle ground, is all.

Ok, I think that's a little unfair. The very last sentence of my reply was "what kind of edits would you like to see made?" I don't want to join this game already creating bad blood, I want to find something that satisfies everybody as well. I was just laying out my starting position on the matter.

I'd just suggest either thinking of a concept that you don't need an alternate universe to work in. We have so many Wayne plots, and so little characters--I just guess I suppose I'd like to see a bit more variety with characters. So that this game isn't running around with a ton of Bat-people.

Sorry, didn't mean to be short with you in the process!

I can see that...there always seems to be an issue with that sorta thing, to the point where in a Marvel game I started recently (didn't last long, but for entirely different reasons) I had to put a Cap on X-Men, since...well, y'know. Ok, so...the kinda non-negotiable thing for me is almost certainly her being Starfire's daughter. I want to play Starfires daughter, and right now no other concepts really appeal to me. So-ooo....it was just the Wayne Connection that people had issue with, right? So how about....just spitballing here...Ok, so, I don't know what timescale it is in-game, but I still like the idea of AU-Hopping, since it kinda adds the whole "Fish out of water, isolated" feel to her, which she has to get over. BUT. What if....what if in her timeline, Bruce Wayne died when she was little, so she never actually met him. Maybe he and Dick were estranged, so he wasn't even her adopted Grandfather...then when Starfire died and Dick went off the rails, somebody else adopted her? Not sure who that would be - dunno who has been "claimed" and who hasn't, and who would be ok with having certain characters adopt her, but it could be anybody from Green Arrow to Martian Manhunter to The Flash. Hell, it could be her aunt, Blackfire, if that is the only thing that would work...so she wasn't adopted by Bruce Wayne, and was instead raised and taught by somebody else? Would that fix the issue?

Also, I do feel the need to point out that she has been in this Universe for about a year now. I left that section deliberately vague so I didn't mention anybody without permission, but what I tend to do with my characters is contact the other writers before I start and hash out some connections in terms of "Have they met, how did they meet, what's their relationship like, etc etc," so she has some pre-existing friendships and whatnot going in. So it isn't like she's going in completely cold; I intend to build connections with her, I just left that section deliberately vague to try and keep from mentioning anybody who might not want to be mentioned. :-)

Well, the cool part is, depending on who you have adopt her can change her play style and give her a bit of a connection and relating to the current universe characters.

Which is why I had an issue with the previous connection, because the idea has great potential for some fun in the game, but the character you had her tied to just made it a complete clusterfuck.

Does that make sense?

Hey guys,

Feel free to continue this discussion, but so everyone is aware I have asked Vergil to edit his backstory for Mar'i to remove the connection with Bruce.

Well, I'm perfectly fine with having her be adopted by somebody else; Wayne was never the central part of her story, just the Dick / Kori thing. So the question is, who is actually available to adopt her? That's the next issue...see, I don't want to step on anybodies toes by saying "Ah, this person!" and having that player go "Fuck you." So...suggestions? I mean, any volunteers for having an AU version of a character connected to them adopt Mar'i....? I mean, Green Arrow, Manhunter, Zatanna, any character with a positive relationship with Dick or Kori could work, so....kinda lost now, haha.

I suggest going through the character sheets or taking a gander in the current thread that everyone is posting in Gotham.

We only have a handful of active players (Urban is too! But we're waiting for her to hop in), so it may give you a fun idea of how to mold the character for future directions and connections!

I've gone through them, the problem is that I have no idea whether the players would be amenable to that sort of connection, y'know? I don't want to alter all the background and whatnot and then it turns out that THAT player has an issue with it...

Wait a minute... ooh... this could be fun!

Mari was basically born more than ten years into the future, correct?  She was thirteen when she was adopted.  That means the adoption took place twenty-three years into the future.

That means... one of our characters would've been old enough to adopt her!  XD

LOL. That would certainly be entertaining in the short term, but that could get convoluted very quickly XD She was born in an AU (since if she was born in the future, that kinda railroads people into certain choices, or she ceases to exist, y'know? Much cleaner to have her come from a different universe), so I think I'm more liking the idea of a Canon Character adopting her, and then her encountering this person who has a connection to this Canon Character, so she feels a kind of pull towards them, but doesn't want to risk it, but can't help herself, etc etc. ATM, I see two options...Flash, and Superman. So, Deathnote...would you be ok with Connor's father being the one to adopt her? Hell, in this AU, she could have grown up alongside Connor, if you want, so she has to see her adopted brother in this timeline who doesn't know who she is. But that's maybe going a touch too far. :P

If I may toss out a suggestion, what if Starfire's death led to Blackfire's reform, taking care of her niece in her sister's stead?

It could be interesting to have Mari struggle to reconcile the aunt who raised her with a presently villainous Blackfire.

Oh, that sorta thing is definitely a possibility, but it's my Plan B at the moment...if I can't think of a direct connection to an existing character (Via AU Shenanigans), I'll use Blackfire. But I like the idea of Mar'i knowing a character in an AU and having to tread carefully because she doesn't want to reveal herself.

Right, so, after chatting with Deathnote, I have a new draft of Mar'i to present! Oh, Deathnote, if you disagree with anything here or want something altered, let me know so I can change it. :D

Nightstar
Mar'i Grayson / Mary Gray

Legal Name: Mar'i Grayson / Mary Grayson / Mary Gray.
Alias: Nightstar
Age: 23
Sexuality: Bisexual

Origin Story:
Despite copious donations and dozens of favours being called in from the extended Justice League family, Koriand'r passed away when Mar'i was only 13.

Dick withdrew inside himself at her death, unable to properly cope with losing the woman he thought he would be spending his life with, throwing himself back into his vigilante work as a way to distract himself at the cost of neglecting his daughter. Thankfully, Mar'i was not left alone; though Dick and Kori had become estranged from Bruce Wayne before his death when she was small, she did have other concerned relatives; her adopted uncle, Conner Kent, stepped in to ensure that Mar'i would not grow up without a family. Conner Kent was a clone of Clark Kent that was initially intended to rival the original, but due to complications in the cloning process emerged from the pod only half-aged and only with bits and pieces of Supermans memory. Clark had eventually opted to adopt the young Conner, who had then gone on and, when he was a grown man, inherited the cape and title of Superman from Clark when he and Diana went into isolated retirement. Connor - who at the time had a sixteen year old son named Jon - adopted Mar'i and raised her himself, making certain that she had the tools to look after herself in all situations. He had some help from Koriand'r's sister, Komand'r - who upon hearing of Kori's death had raced to Earth to check on Mar'i - and Mar'i soon grew into a competent, strong willed young woman who soon followed in her parents and uncles footsteps and became a vigilante for justice.

When she reached the age of 18 - and after a couple of years of both Conner and Jon desperately combating their most dangerous foe yet; a teenage girl - she had come to not despise her biological father but instead pity him, though their relationship was admittedly rather strained due to his years of neglect. Dick, to his credit, realised upon meeting her on the streets of Star City how much he had missed and how much he had ended up wallowing in his own self pity, and tried to make amends...but Mar'i was of the opinion that it was too little, too late. Though she didn't dislike her father, she also didn't have time for him. Why should she, when he never made time for her? Unfortunately, the family squabble was about to get worse...when Kansas was destroyed by an unknown assailant, two rival Hero groups emerged from the ashes; Connor Kent, with the support of a re-emerged Clark Kent, reformed the Justice League, which Mar'i joined...and, in one of fates cruel twists, Dick Grayson created "The Outsiders," a group of slightly more shadowy and obscure young heroes whose methods sometimes got under the JL's skin. Just as conflict between the two groups began to boil over into full-scale war...history diverged, as it so often does. Brainiac, finally recovered from his final defeat at the hands of the JLA and the united heroes of Earth thirty years previously, returned and attacked the Earth. Over the course of two years, the JL and The Outsiders were forced to put aside their differences to fight against him...and soon enough, Mar'i and Dick were, after a fashion, reconciled after Conner Kent fell in battle and Dick managed to retreat with a screaming Mar'i over his shoulder.

Whilst Brainiac was eventually defeated - after Jon took his fathers place as the new Superman and head of the Justice League - it ended up taking the life of Dick, too, only half a year after he and his daughter had begun to rebuild their relationship. Conner and Jon Kent (she didn't know whether Jon survived the blast, but to her? He might as well have died, for all the difference it made; she was never seeing him again either way), Dick Grayson....Koriand'r. But it was....different. These people were not her family, not the people she knew and she couldn't fully convince herself that these people would serve as adequate replacements to what she lost. This Conner Kent was not her doting and understanding uncle-turned-father figure; he was a father, yes, but he had settled down with M'gann instead and was a complete stranger to her. This Dick Grayson was not her flawed-but-noble father, struggling to make amends for his mistakes; he was a still-fresh, idealistic relative youth with his entire life ahead of him. Kori wasn't her gentle, loving, sweet mother...she was a carefree young woman in the prime of her life, enjoying her youth while she could.

Neither of her parents or her uncle or her brother would want that, and even if she never saw them again, she would do them proud.

Home City: Metropolis

Physical Description:

She enjoys shopping despite her more tomboyish tastes, simply because she loves all of the choice that is afforded her in the Metropolis high street, but she won't go anywhere near high heels unless going to a formal function; they're very, very difficult to move in and if she learned anything from Bruce, it was that mobility is always key.

Personality:

Powers And Abilities:

-- Through intensive training with both Conner and Jon, along with extra tutelage from other members of the Justice League, Nightstar has gained an impressive resistance to mental attacks and psychic readings. Whilst not immune, she is as resistant to it as a non-telepath can be without having a super power specifically directed at it.

-- Her time with Conner, Jon and the Justice League and her few interactions with her father earned her basic lessons in self defence. Whilst she is unlikely to be able to take on people such as Nightwing, Starfire, Ra's Al Ghul or Deathstroke in single hand-to-hand combat with any efficacy, she knows enough to get by....and her strength and durability usually take her the rest of the way.

Star Sky by Two Steps From Hell

Ok, so, TL;DR?

I replaced Bruce Wayne with Conner Kent. Basically, Bruce was estranged from Dick and Kori and died when Mar'i was young. When Star died and Dick went loopy, Conner - who in the AU was an incomplete clone who grew to maturity as Clark's adopted son - in turn adopted Mar'i to grow up alongside the older Jon, who ended up being a big brother figure. During the fight with Brainiac, Conner ended up dying and Jon took on the mantle of Superman from him (Conner having received it from Clark when Clark and Diana retired) and that spurred her into an irrational charge into the middle of the exploding Brainiac ship. Now in this universe, Jon is younger than Mar'i, and Mar'i has tried to avoid interacting with Conner, Clark or Jon too much in case it opens raw wounds.

Also, I didn't include a "Weakness" section, since I figured that her limitations are explained comprehensively enough in her powers and personality section, and I didn't want to repeat myself.

Hopefully this draft is less offensive to people! :P

I like the changes Vergil! I am assuming that you and Death talked about this a bit before you changed the history?

If he is cool with it, than awesome! Feel free to move your sheet over. I will be creating a GM event this evening, which would be a good place for you to jump in if you'd like.

Also, feel free to jump in to the Gotham scenes that are taking place as well.

Deathnote and I did indeed talk about it, I'm just getting his final OK.

But I doubt I'd be able to join in the Event immediately; there's still a LOT I have to do. For one, I need to figure out how Mar'i joined Young Justice (that would be a conversation I have with you), and I need to work out how she might know the rest of the cast...I mean, it's best to agree on shared history beforehand, right?

Blue Lantern
Connor Allen McCain

Origin Story:  Connor was born to a family of two things; faith and service. Raised a catholic in a military family, Connor was initially rebellious to his parents. After being kicked out of his home, Connor joined the military as a last ditch effort to get control of his life. Through the military, he found friends and clarity that allowed him to calm his rebellious streak. Yet, as fate would have it, Connor would be caught in a firefight that made him lose both his friends and the ability to walk due to a stray bullet piercing his spine. Connor was discharged from the military for his paralysis with no home to turn to. Suffering from the lost of his friends, his job, and his legs Connor turn to the faith he abandoned when he left his family. Through finding faith again, Connor began to rebuild himself despite his condition. Just when he was almost ready to move on from the trauma, Connor was caught in a hostage situation as a hostage under a criminal Meta-Human. Praying, Connor asked for a savior for the people who also had this horrible fate bestowed upon them. Yet, no one came. It got to the point when the ransom would not come so the Meta-Human opted to kill a hostage. Before that could happen, Connor, With enough force of will and hope, stood from his wheel chair. He garnered enough resolve to be the hero himself. Inspiring the rest of the hostages, the hostages took up arms against the Meta-Human villain. It was at this moment a blue ring flew through the roof and placed itself in Connor's hands. Barely able to stand since his muscles forgotten the feeling for years, Connor fell to his knees as the ring in his hand pulsated with a warmth. With the warmth, the words echoed through Connor's mind as he slowly placed the ring on his right ring finger.

"Connor Allen McCain, you have the ability to instill great hope."

In that moment, the boy with anger became the man of hope; Connor McCain the Blue Lantern. Using his newly gained powers, Connor defeated the Meta-Human and used the flight to make for his legs not working properly; leaving him being perceived as a hero among the people he saved. After this event, both Saint Walker of the Blue Lanterns and Hal Jordon of the Green Lanterns came to Connor and explained what had happen. He is now a Blue Lantern, a member of the Blue Lantern Corps and ally to the Green Lantern Corps. Leaving Earth, they helped Connor learn how to use his new power and he in return aided in the efforts of the Green Lantern's mission of protecting the universe. One year later to the present, Connor McCain was assigned to Earth to guard it alongside the other heroes who protect it as a representative of the growing Blue Lantern Corps.

Home City: Connor's debut was in Metropolis, but he has mostly operated off world.

Civilian Appearance/Style Description: Connor, now-a-days, wears a black leather jacket and grey shirt with jeans to go with them. He fills it out easily with his 6'2 height and muscular physique that weighs about 210 lbs. He usually keeps his lantern ring off his finger when he walks around normally.

Costume Description: Connor, when he suits up with his Blue Lantern suit by putting on his ring, wears a suit similar to the green lanterns except it was blue and white. To cover his identity, Connor constructs a blue domino mask to cover his eyes. His eyes glow blue instead of the normal brown, giving him a celestial look to many, and intimidation to some. This suit is more skin tight than concealing, leaving his muscles visible for everyone to see.

Personality: Most people would describe Connor as a "pretty chill guy." Connor does not get angry at all no matter how slighted he has been due to his training with the Blue Lanterns. Being back on Earth has Connor feeling a sense of both nostalgia and isolation from what he had come to know as normal no longer was normal to him. It's hard for him to accustom to the Earth again after being gone for one year. It's even harder for him to learn how to work with other heroes being that he only ever worked with Lanterns. Connor is the type of man that would use what every ounce of power he could muster to protect everyone he could. A feature like this has proved to be heroic, but harmful to his person.

Powers/Weapons: All Blue Lanterns are armed with a blue power ring, fueled by the emotion hope. While hope is the most powerful of the seven emotions, Blue Lanterns must be near an active Green Lantern's power ring to tap into their own rings' full power. Otherwise, the rings are only capable of the default abilities of flight and a protective aura. This is because the power of hope is nothing without the willpower to enact it. The Blue Lantern's protective aura allows them to survive in space and other hostile environments and can be manipulated to a limited degree even without a Green Lantern present, using it to augment their strength and extending it to form a larger shield, but this ability is almost exclusively defensive. Blue rings must be activated by true hope before they will operate at their user's command.

While under the influence of a nearby green power ring, a blue power ring has the same abilities as a green ring, plus some unique powers of its own. Blue Lanterns can heal wounds and regenerate lost body parts. The ring's power can be supplemented with the hope of other living beings; for instance, Saint Walker and Warth were able to reduce a dying sun's age by 8.6 billion years because of the hope emanating from the inhabitants of a nearby planet. A blue ring can negatively impact the performance of rings on the opposite side of the emotional spectrum. It can neutralize the corruptive effects of red power rings, block the energy-stealing properties of orange rings (as well as nullify its side effects on the bearer of it), and drain the power of yellow power rings. While at first it appeared that a blue ring could only charge a green power ring to twice its maximum power level which could also negatively impact a green ring, as close proximity to the Blue Central Power Battery would overcharge the ring, causing it to implode (taking the user's hand with it), it had been revealed that a blue ring can in fact charge any power ring as long as the user of the blue ring wish to. Blue power rings manifest their constructs mainly by reading the target's hopes, but can make wielder-directed constructs like the other corps.

Weakness: Connor's power is not fully tapped without a Green Lantern near him. To utilize his full power of the Blue Lantern Corps, a being of will power such as the Green Lanterns need to be near him and he would charge them with power in return. Without the help of the Green Lantern, Connor is restricted to using his power to create barriers, flight, and augmenting his strength to match other super powered villains.

With the power of the Blue Lantern ring, Connor has fully recovered from paralysis. However, the signs of the original wound is still there. Should something strike the exact spot where the bullet pierced the spinal cord, Connor would feel severe pain and fall down in paralysis once again. The Blue Ring would heal him, but it would take too long when something could finish the job in the mean time.

Great sheet MasterOfMyFate!

You are approved to join the game, welcome - https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=245391.0

One question though. We do not have a Green Lantern in the game right now. How do you intend to play with Connor having the full scope of his powers? Are you going to NPC a Green Lantern? Or pick one up later?

It's not a "you must answer" kind of thing, I'm just personally curious.

Well that's the twist, Connor isn't going to be around a Green Lantern. He will rely on what he can use such as his flight, shield, and augmented strength for the game. It's my way of leveling the playing field while having the capability to be something great in the time of intense crisis. The fun in his character is he works around having only the base abilities and making them work.

It is worth noting, however, that in the Green Lantern animated series (entirely separate continuity, but given this is based loosely on Young Justice, itself an alternate continuity...) Blue Lanterns are able to fire energy blasts, use energy constructs, and nullify red power rings even without the presence of a Green Lantern.

I'd probably also include universal translation as one of the Blue Lantern's `baseline` powers, whether you go with comics or GL:TAS, though.

Ah. That's very helpful to know. I'm gonna add that to the character then. I'm just getting into Lantern lore and found that Saint Walker and the Blue Lanterns are the most appealing lanterns to join.

How'd that card get in your wallet? Must be magic  ;)

If you want, we can work out something that is unique for both of our characters? I'd personally really like to see Zoe interact with someone else who uses magic, but I totally understand that Red wants a variety of characters.

I'm sure we can brainstorm something!

If it makes any difference, there are currently 9 males and 7 females in the game.  So... yeah, the sexes are balanced enough-ish as Rel Mayer said.

Also, the team's sorely lacking in the psionics department at the moment, so it'd be awesome if you joined.  ^_^

Why choose? A child of Martian Manhunter who refuses to confirm which gender they are - and constantly goes between male and female Martian forms - would be fun. At least, in my opinion. Ok, that's mostly (90%) a joke, though now I think about it, I might store that idea away for possible future exploration....
