Gotham.

It's been a while, but the area felt familiar to the young Atlantean soldier.  There was a haunting melody in the air that was reminiscent of some of the ruins that could be found in the deep, dark ocean depths.  He never understood how anybody could live in such a place.  Well... ever since the rebuilding efforts of Atlantis, he had a better understanding than before.  Home is home.  He could understand that no matter how dark and depressing a place could be, it was hard to leave behind your home and move on to another.  Garth lowered his binoculars and sighed.  This mission felt more up Grayson's alley, if he had to be honest with himself.  He was up on top of a roof, watching over the docks and staking out the smuggling operation there.  He preferred the waters, but he knew he'd have a better vantage point perception-wise up on top of a tall building.

He's been at it for a couple hours now.  He didn't understand how Grayson or any of the other members of the bat family could do it.  Doing a stake-out.  For the past few days, he had been following the investigation of a smuggling ring.  At first, he thought the gang was smuggling drugs.  Nope.  They were smuggling people.  Smuggling them out of the country.  Involuntarily.

He brought the binoculars back up to his eyes and looked toward the ship.  A small freighter with a hidden storage space to keep all the kidnapped people inside.  Even if he capsized the ship, the gang would just continue their operations with another transport.  No... he had to end this here.  He had to capture the ringleader and if his sources were correct, that ringleader was going to show up tonight.  The van that was supposed to bring in all the kidnapped victims hadn't arrived yet either.

"Please tell me I didn't screw up somewhere..." Garth muttered to himself.

Name: M'gann M'orzz
Nom de Guerre: Miss Martian
Affiliation: Remnants of the Justice League

Location: The Watchtower, the Gotham Clocktower, Central Gotham
Tagging: Arthur Curry/King Orin

M'gann had found similar patterns of kidnappings on one of her patrols, and she had found it curious, to say the least.  There had been a street urchin that lived outside her apartment building, a young man that was a nice enough fellow, but he had no prospects, no support beyond the occassional charity that people felt kind enough to toss his way, herself included although the martian had given more than money.  She had gone out of her way to give him soup and other simple things of the same.  She understood what it felt like to be without any hope, and while the circumstances were different, the similarities were enough for her heart to go out to him.  So when he inexplicably went missing, M'gann had went out to search for him, and had stumbled across the same thing someone else had, another friend long missed.  For the moment though, the martian was camouflaged, hoping to track down the young man that made a habit of sleeping between her apartment building and the next building over.  With the recent string of missing persons rising inexplicably, M'gann had a bad feeling something more was at work here than your average runaways getting tired of living on the streets.  And with clues pointing to people being smuggled out of Gotham against their will, her fears were becoming more and more present.  The cops wouldn't care, even if they had enough people to investigate the case, so that left people like her and her close friends.

With her telepathic range extended as far as it could go as she continued her flight over the city, M'gann cocked her head to the side when she picked up a familiar, but unexpected, presence on a nearby rooftop as she flew towards the docks.  What was it with bad guys and old boats the martian would never understand, but she pushed that thought to the side and lightly landed behind the presence she had picked up, her defenses up in the off chance the signature she had felt wasn't who she hoped it was.  But a quick scan with her eyes said that it was indeed another Atlantean, one of Orin's few close friends, Garth, mage and warrior Tempest of the Atlantean army.  She visibly relaxed as she compressed her telepathic field immediately and let her camouflage drop away, revealing herself to the man on the roof.  She kept her voice low though, aware of the fact he was likely here for the same reason she was.  "Garth!  It's been too long!"  She called out softly, and held out her hand to the mage before her, her amber eyes alight in the darkness of Gotham's rooftops.  Nodding to the nearby docks and the people milling about, regardless if Garth took her offered hand or not, she'd walk up next to her old friend as she let her gaze settle on the area before them.  "You're here for the same thing I am, people disappearing?  The few leads I had led me here, so it's not surprising to find you here, although why are you here?  Shouldn't you be in Atlantis?"  Switching to purely telepathic communication, unless someone came along that could sense her use of her powers, M'gann looked to her side, wanting to see Garth's face when he responded.  On the other hand, Orin was in Gotham, but that didn't mean Garth had to be.  Even so, she was happy he was, the joy radiating through the psychic link she had immediately established upon recognizing the mage said as much, but she was curious as to why Garth had also left the underwater kingdom.  Something was definitely going on if both the King of Atlantis and one of his trusted allies was in town, but they had an immediate concern to worry about.

"Huh?" Garth looked a little startled as soon as Miss Martian appeared before him.  He nearly dropped his binoculars, but managed to maintain his composure in time to catch them before they completely slipped out of his hands.  He looked up at his newly arrived friend, clearly not expecting to bump into her.  Well... he supposed it shouldn't really come as a surprise anymore to bump into another fellow superhero, especially in Gotham at this time.  He was more expecting to bump into someone from the Bat family or anyone else who normally patrolled this specific city.  Then again, the Justice League was based here, right?  Rather... the old Justice League headquarters?

The young Atlantean picked up on the familiar telepathic connection that was being established between himself and the Martian.  He had become quite adept at it himself over the course of his mystical training, but he couldn't help but feel that this was still her thing.  "Hey, M'gann.  It's been a while, hasn't it?  It's... a bit of a long story.  Why I'm here, I mean.  It sorta has to do with an Atlantean prophecy.  I take it King Orin hasn't told you about it yet?"

The Mage Marshal was glad that he met M'gann on a mission as opposed to a more social setting.  He always felt awkward whenever he was around friends, just hanging out.  He didn't know how he was going to reintroduce himself to everyone, considering he hadn't seen them in a long time.  At least this way, all of the focus would be directed toward fighting crime and rescuing people from being kidnapped.  M'gann was a good friend, especially in the wake of the reclaiming of the throne.  Still, it would probably be awkward just showing up in Gotham out of nowhere.  What was he going to do?  Just say "Hi"?

"I've been following these guys for a while now.  See that boat over there?  That's the boat they're going to use to transport all of the kidnap victims out of the country," Garth explained through the telepathic connection as he continued watching the docks through his binoculars.  "Their boss is supposed to show up tonight.  That's the guy we need take out if we want this to stop."
