I've read all the books by Auel...there were four, and then quite a hiatus until #5 (Shelters of Stone).  I won't post details about the series (wouldn't want any spoilers), except to say that some people perceive the later books to be increasingly freighted with feminist propaganda thinly disguised as prose.  I think that assertion is questionable, though I can understand why some might levy that accusation against Auel, given that her matriarchal interpretation of prehistoric societies is in stark contrast to that of traditional adventure literature set in that era, like that of Burroughs' and the pulp writers' featuring muscular men and scantily-clad, obviously subservient women.

Personally, I found Auel's version of prehistoric societies to be no less plausible than that of Burroughs, and quite interesting.

I read the Earth Children series when I was in high school and college, and now I own all of them.

And I just got into the Anita Blake series by Hamilton... addicting, it is!

Eeek, aren't they wonderful? I read the 11 that were out in 6 days. *Melt.* Have to say, was kind of disappointed that she didn't exactly get to keep her personal morals. >>; Very amusing though. Just got the new one recently, loved it and now am waiting for "micah."
