I'd say it was all over for McCain back in September...

Funny you should say that.  Here's an article that pins down the exact day and time McCain lost (hindsight being wonderful that way).

Meh. He lost...and deservedly so. Let's leave it at that.

Let's just all cross our fingers and hope Bush isn't going to take one last huge crap on Capitol Hill before Obama gets in there, and has to clean it up...

They made him look like Bill Cosby there.  (Who, by the way, also has great things to say about personal responsibility.)

Yeah, but for the most part his intended audience hasn't been listening.

For What it's worth, John Scalzi has a good piece about the reality of Obama's win, that is definitely worth the read. He really has some very good points.

I am glad you liked it! It brings some perspective to the situation, in that, not one man can do it alone, and it's not the end of the world like some people seem to think.

I think one thing that all of us in America need to understand is that it takes a lot of work and more than a single person to get real change done. One person can inspire, but it takes many to get it pushed through to a reality.

I absolutely agree :)  It's about who they appoint, who they choose to surround themselves with, and I sincerely hope that the president-elect follows through with his vision and makes wise choices.  Gods know Bush didn't... Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft...

Celebrate all you want, it's still nearly 3 months before he is inaugurated. Until he is the President, he has no authority.

You're incorrect in that.  Under the provisions of the Presidential Transitions Act of 1963 (amended 2000), the President-elect is entitled to the same Presidential Daily Briefings by the intelligence agencies that the sitting President receives.

Just as a funfact, it was at one of these PDBs during the transition from the Clinton to the Bush White House that then-Security Adviser Rice was told by Secretary of State Christopher that al-Queda and Osama bin Ladin would become major foreign policy issues to the new administration.

Furthermore, under the Transition Act, the President-elect may draw on the services of the Government Accountability Office and the General Services Administration to appoint their to-be White House Staff members and entitle them to the security clearances those offices entail.

But until the President Elect is inaugurated, they have no authority to affect the current administration. All he can do is voice his opinion. He isn't President yet.

True, but your statement was demonstrably incorrect.  President-elect Obama has authority and power that Democratic Candidate Obama did not.

Actually regardless of what the law says.  The circumstances and current setting of makeup of power in Washington.  Leaves we can assume that anything the current lame duck President does.  Will ultimately be approved or denied through the President elect.   Now if the congress still favored the current President.   Then yes in effect everything that has been said and pointed out back and forth stands.  But circumstances says.  Do you truly believe the democratic controlled congress will pass anything with out running it past the presidential elect

Obama can he is still an elected member of Congress until he takes the Oath and is President. So is Biden. In fact he likely has more power than Bush does at this moment he is a lame duck president and Obama is the President Elect with Congressional powers.

Until he is inuagurated, he has -no- power at all under the Constitution. Except as a Senator, and that until he is replaced. That's not to say that Congressmen will not talk to him and kiss ass to get favors and see what he can do for them. He can and is putting together his coming administration, as is proper, but in the power he actually has under the Constitution, he has -none- as President Elect. Yet. When he is President, he will have it all.

Not really the President has very modest powers without Congress and like I said Bush is a joke and is losing authority fast, Obama as the President-Elect and a Senator has likely far more power it may not be IN the Constitution but who are international leaders talking to. Really starting to talk to. Obama.

Its only a matter of time.

IE, none. Until he is inaugurated he cannot do anything but get the men and women who will be his administration, in order. He cannot give orders to the members of the current administration, Dept. heads or military. His only power comes from the fact he can still be listed as a Senator and that he is the incoming President. If the current President gave  an order he is allowed to do, Obama cannot counter order or stop it. He isn't the President yet.

Agreed. It's only a few months before Obama becomes president anyway. :P

Actually, until the Electoral College meets on December 15th, Obama and Biden aren't officially President and Vice-President Elect if you really want to get technical.

A spin off, that perhaps should have been its own thread or not.  Just some lampoon humor.

So not that Barack Obama has won and will be sworn in as our next President in the new year.  Does that mean MSNBC is now the straight talk'in news network, now since they have the pulse of the people.  An well Fox News is now the disgruntled pundits of those not in power. Now nothing more then a small voice chipping whining retorts out.

I doubt it. Neither FOX nor MSNBC are 'straight' news, neither is CNN or any other cable news networks. All of them are biased and are more entertainment.

I would really like to see a channel that simply gives us news without the inane, vapid commentary attached that passes as news and opinion.

For Politics, C-SPAN is much better, and is nuetral.
