I feel sure this has been addressed before but 35 pages of discussion is a bit daunting to look through.

Does this script affect Elliquiy Bookmarks in any way? Is there a way to have subfolders or some similar organisation for bookmarks?

If folks want a sub-folder type view, I can look at that... maybe something organised around tags viewed as folders?

EDIT a couple of minutes later: Yes, now I see it. The bookmarks all still stay in the same sequence on the one list though. I was hoping for some kind of graphical nesting or threading or hiding but I guess that's set out by the website formatting.

I've added a new, default, option to Bookmarks to display them as a collapsed/collapsable collection of tagged lists :)    Just click the tag name to open the list of bookmarks for that tab... should tame really long lists.

You're most welcome :)  I actually enjoyed getting back to doing a bit of development work on it.  It did remind me how much of a rewrite it needs, though :)

I know I have a bit of work to do on the new look for the bookmarks as clicking on one of the named links from the BMs menu should really open the BM page with the correct section open...  one for the ToDo list :)

Is there a way to have the BM page default to "All" if there wasn't a specific bookmark clicked (and maybe move that above all the other bookmarked sections)? It's kind of a mess of all the tags I ever thought I could use, all before the relevant "All Bookmarks" section, which is also collapsed, so I almost didn't see it. If I don't go in looking for a specific tag, I'm probably trying to browse the whole list because I don't think I tagged whatever thread I'm searching for.

OK - I've just pushed a v1.47.2 to github for this change.  It seems to be cached at 1.47.0 at the moment but should update fairly shortly, I hope.

Bookmarks are doing something odd since the update. If I just open the BM page, it looks fine. But if I move the mouse, for a moment it seems to construct what, for lack of a better description, looks like a set of dropdown menus for all of the categories I have set up. In that state, which lasts only very briefly, I can't interact with bookmarks at all. Then it's fine. But it happens every time I return to or reload the BM page.  Trying to grab a screenie so you can see what I mean...



Sorry for the poor resolution- it goes by reasonably fast, which makes using anything other than PrnScrn impossible. Is this an intended result of the new bookmarking behavior?


*EDIT*  NM, I now see the new 'Collapsable View' check in the settings. Mine won't STAY collapsed for whatever reason, but in neither case is it a true function problem.

*EDIT 2:*  OK, hadn't scrolled down enough. The tag folders now appear at the bottom, but the page resets by itself to standard bookmark view

Hi, good to be back :)

I'd better explain the new bookmark stuff in detail because it probably isn't as intuitive as it could be.

First of all - the setting to switch between old and new is this one:



It's referred to as collapsable because it shows all of the tags and auto-tags as collapsable lists.  It will open with one list open corresponding to what link you clicked to get there.   If you clicked BMs, it'll be all of your bookmarks.  If you clicked one of your tags, it'll be that tag list.

However.... for techie reasons, I have to impose a short delay (~1 second) between the page first displaying and the script doing it's magic so there is a pause and then a visible reshuffle of everything.  I might be able to get around this, in time, with some clever shenanigans but I'm still working through that.

The ordering of the categories of collapsable bookmarks is a bit arbitrary.  All Bookmarks comes at the top of the list, followed by the auto-tags followed by your defined tags.  I know that will suit some folks and not others and I plan to allow a few options around ordering in the nearish future :)  I also need it to exclude the auto-tags if they're unticked in settings.

If you don't like the new collapsable view, do switch it off in the settings by unticking that box.  If you have any ideas about what would make it better, let me know.

I'm not sure if that's cleared things up.  From what you are saying Nowherewoman, there seems to be issues with it resetting back to the old view?

OK - so new settings explained...

The new collapsable view is a way of taming very large lists of bookmarks.  It displays all of the categories on screen at the same time but in 'collapsable' lists.  This means you can click the heading of any given list to see the contents of it but you only see one list on screen at a time. What are these lists?  Well - a list comprises one of the following:

• All Bookmarks (pretty self-explanatory)
• A Tag list (based on the tags that you have assigned)
• An Auto list (one of the possible auto-tags)

The possible auto lists are:

• No Tag - the bookmark has no tags
• Replies - the bookmark's topic has replies that the system thinks that you haven't read
• Posts Owed - you were not the last person to post to this topic (primarily useful for one-on-one stuff)

If a list has nothing to show in it, it doesn't appear.

Now, here is the new settings screen:

1. Allows you to switch the new collapsable view on and off.  This allows you to revert to the old way that the script did stuff, should you not like the new view.  By default, it's on.
2. Allows you to choose if All Bookmarks goes first or last in the list. It's first by default.
3. Allows you to choose to have all of the categories closed by default when you go to the BM list.  By default the selected one is shown (after a brief delay).
4. Allows you to choose not to see the three categories of auto-tags

Why is 4 split like that?  Who knows, certainly not I.

And a very quick jump to 1.47.4 to make the BM screen do its thing quicker.  There was a possible delay of 2 seconds + time for the code to do a bit of jazz so maybe 3-4 seconds.  That should now be 1-2 :)

And on an unrelated note - forgot to mention about an under-the-hood changed in the last release.  Way back about 4 years or so ago, I changed how the settings were stored for the script.  I included some code to convert old settings to the new format and that has been in the script ever since.   I've finally got around to deleting that on the basis that if you haven't used my script in 4 years then probably you're gonna need a whole new install anyway rather than upgrading a settings file that old.

I was wondering if there was a way with the script to basically unfollow threads you've posted in in the 'new replies to your posts' button. I know it shows replies to everything you've ever posted in, but some of the games and stuff I posted in when I first joined the site, I dont want to have there and showing me there is a reply. Some stuff I enjoy seeing that there is a reply like in people's A/As or in picture threads. So, I was wondering if there was a way to basically say you didn't want to see any replies from certain threads that I have posted in?

Bookmarks can have labels/tags that can sort them when you select the label from the pull down of Bookmarks. There are default categories to start with. I really like the way I can organize my bookmarks with it.

It _should_ do.  And I say that in complete absence of testing it myself.  Opera seems to have a version of TamperMonkey available (https://addons.opera.com/en-gb/extensions/details/tampermonkey-beta/) which should allow for the running of userscripts.  So, so long as there's no over-enthusiastic security controls in Opera that get in the way or eccentric implementations of the JavaScript processor, should be good to go.
