A brief flying visit to let you all know that I've put v1.40.1 up at https://github.com/Ssieth/eli-userscript/raw/master/eli.user.js

There's no changes in there that anyone should notice - just a few bug fixes to make the code more closely conform to the JavaScript standards.  This might have very minor positive impacts on those folks using Chrome (which is more exacting in what it expects than FireFox) but I would imagine probably not.

So the steps, I very likely am doing something wrong I have zero idea of what I'm doing so:

I clicked that link

It opens a new window briefly, then I get an option to click continue or discard - saying Extensions, apps, and themes can harm your computer. Are you sure you want to continue - I click continue.

Then it downloads saying eli.users.js

I click that - it opens a thing saying to open the file I click open

and finally, I get a Windows Script Host error. Syntax Error with a code 800A03EA Microsoft JScript compilation error.

I'm using chrome.

No clue what I'm doing in truth.

I’ve noticed that recently the “snippets” button has disappeared for me. In order to access ly snippets I need to go into script settings and access my snippets from there. Did I just disable an option somewhere? Any insight would be appreciated.

Under General in the Script Settings there is a checkbox for Snippets. You might check if it has a checkmark or not. I have snippets in my reply window like normal.

Maybe try unchecking it. Refresh E and then check it again... see if that does something. This is a guess at a suggestion.

Maybe check the script version too, make sure you have the current one.

I'm on version 1.40.1.

Clicking "Get Latest Version" shows 1.39.0 as the most recent version, which is a little odd.

Unchecking the box did seem to disable snippets, leaving the snippet library empty. Reenabling brought back my snippet library, but still didn't restore the actual button.

Oddly, disabling snippets did cause a "Users" button to show up, which vanished the moment snippets were reenabled.

Ah, looks like the "get Latest Version" goes to an old location. Ssieth is using Github now I believe. https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=230790.msg15146646#msg15146646 which is where the 1.40.1 version came from.

Not sure what else to suggest... Does seem like odd behaviour though.

Someone else may have more to suggest or Ssieth may pop by.

If I think of something else I'll let you know.

OK - I released a very quick update to cope with the fact that FireFox made some changes in their last update that has broken the script a bit.  Should be fixed now.

clonkertink - are snippets still broken for you?

OK - I'll do some stuff at the long weekend and see if I can replicate and fix the issue.  If I need any more info, I'll PM you :)

If it's a data issue then I may need to ask you to run a second script to extract the data so we can see what is what but hopefully it'll be something simpler to hunt down :)

v1.40.4 isn't really an update so much as an attempt to track down a bug.  There's really nothing new to see here...

OK - proper new version now....

• A fix for a bug that clonkertink helped me track down with snippets.  It has a problem with colons in the name/ID of snippets and so now if you save one with a colon in, it will be automatically removed.  Colons in the body of the snippet should still be fine :)
• And based on the comments from atenai - I have split out the settings for replies from the General section and given them their own Replies section.  There's a new setting in there of "Replies links go to first new post?".  Kinda does what it says and I hope it's what you want, atenai

That's great, Ssieth, thank you! It's especially helpful in very active social threads, where I can miss entire pages of comments/pictures/etc if I jump to the end of the thread after a solid night's sleep. (Also, damn some people are so active in 12 hours it's scary...)
