At the start of a really good story we have two primary ways of getting our readers involved and engaged in our textual illusions. We can methodically and evocatively build a world directly in front of them. Cast them out into a dark and stormy night and let their lived experience carry them into a mood, an environment that sets on them on their way and carries them through the plot to come. Alternatively, we can cast them into the story in the thick of the action. We can, after an evening of uneasy dreams, awake them in their beds to discover that they have been transformed into a monstorous vermin.

This is going to be neither of those things. It won't even be something in between. I'm mostly going to blather on at your eye holes with a list of things that may or may not interest you. Hopefully I can do that in a charming enough way that you won't hate me.

Welcome To The Thunderdome

As I'm sure you've probably surmised, my name isn't Elijia. That isn't even a believable alias! If you want to call me Kevin, you can feel free to! Alternatively, you can call me pretty much whatever you want. I might not respond to it, but maybe I will. The world is funny like that. Once we surmount our initial nomenclatural difficulties you'll find I'm just a hobbyist writer with a medium sense of humour and a bad habit of using too many words to convey a simple point.

I'm looking for a few people to roleplay with because I love writing and that's what people do here! It doesn't hurt that the vetting process seems to be fairly intensive, the community seems very supportive and the writing seems to be top notch! As far as my qualifications, I can spell at least as well as the built in spell check, I more or less understand what subtext is why Freud might have misapplied it when trying to describe human sexuality and I have been known to grammar on occasion.

Now that I've finished up the most self-deprecating cover letter of all time, I suppose I should explain how I do things and why in the world you might want to write with me? Is that cool? Am I doing this right?

I'm all about piecing together a broader story that finds a way to talk to some sort of thematic or character driven truth. Apparently I also talk like a film school drop out, but I'm sure that will star to wear off with time. That explanation also leans a bit towards the non-specific, so I'll try and elaborate a little bit.

Want to explore our own special little piece of history? All of the sexy clothing and elegant houses and esoteric turns of phrase can be quite fun! But why don't we take it a step further? Make the characters emblems of the things you want to explore from those time periods in a believable way. Extremely complex familial inter-relationships? Struggles between a poorly defined church and state? Class struggle? Why not. The world and all of it's times (both past and future) make a hell of an oyster.

When Are You Going to Say Something Titillating? You Bore Me

Well... That was pretty rude. I was building up to something more interesting and It's terribly unchristian of you to shout me down!

When it comes to writing power dynamics this particular train takes two very different types of rails to grand central station. Does it take both routes on every journey? Of course not. But service on this rail line has been known to find beauty on both the D-line as well as well as occasionally relinquishing control and taking a more mutual road.

I'm always open to having a discussion about this and usually have no problem working out something that is to the enjoyment of both parties! I will say that when it comes to trying to find a more aggressive partner you may well be better off riding with a different ... train company? This metaphor really got away from me. I have nothing normative against it, but it is generally a real fun time killer for me.

Basically. I'm probably not going to be your ... guy from Fifty Shades of Grey? There are some great people on this site who will do that for you though! If you're looking for someone who wants to write with your characters on an equal footing where the plot advances because that is what the characters want in that moment (or it will get them what they want) then I'm your guy.

Plots

Oh... Um... Well, you see, my introduction was so overwritten because I really didn't have anything awesome to go here and I was stalling for time while I wrote. Turns out that wasn't a great strategy, so the overall quality of this missive is about to take a dip. It's a shame, but that's life.

Universes Someone Smarter Than Me Created

Did you know that the world is full of amazing people who have created incredible worlds for us to explore through the consumption of media and the infinite expanses of our own imaginations? Crazy, right? I'm going to use this section to discuss some of the ones I would like to explore in a shared creative space crafted out of a combination of our amazing imaginations. Well, your amazing imagination and my medium good imagination.

As an aside, I really didn't lay out any of the characters from these universes to use as *pairings.* I'm not totally averse to that sort of thing, but you're a smart person (and I can fake it) so I thought why not make our own characters? We're already freeloading on some creative geniuses imagine world, we don't need to hit them with the double indignity of refusing to even invest enough energy to build a new sort of character with which to explore it. Or just...like...sin in it. I don't know. This explanation is getting away from me.

Firefly: Because who doesn't love exploring themes of defiance, exploration, and the pursuit of freedom in the face of a homogenizing regime? Right? Just me? Really...

Choose Your Own Adventure: Not actually the beloved "Choose Your Own Adventure" universe, which is actually a complex mishmash of universes, if memory serves, but an invitation to do a bit of world building! Do you have a wonderful world you've created that you want to explore? The outline for one? A hankering to dig in and create one? Get at me and we can make that happen.

History? More Like Hell-yes-tory

Seriously folks. History is awesome. I love it. Do you know how many places there are on earth? Like, a zillion. On top of that, we even have, like, 40,000 years to play with here. That's a lot of time in which all kinds of stuff happened. We can even invent stuff that didn't happen in certain times too, because our minds give us that power.

Age of Exploration: Also the time of pirates, I suppose. But that's more played out. I have a bit of a maritime kick to me, so I'd love to explore this era and it's themes with someone. There are tons of ways that we could take it, and tons of plots that are available. There are lots of female pirates, cliche governor's somethings scenarios, stow-away and other "pairings" as well as more involved plots that could be explored.

Reconquista: Hi, relgious tension? My name is Elijia, I'd like to explore you. The amazing diversity represented by tri-religious Spain would be great to explore. Tons of chances to look at inter-faith relationships and scandal, political machinations. What ever you like.

Italian City States: Did you know that Italy is a cool place? There were *relatively* young popes that could be made younger for the sake of plot development who got up to all kinds of mischief. Doge's in Venice, and banker families in Florence who got into all kinds of mischief. We can even mix and match this stuff, the Renaissance was insane. Lots of opportunity for threads that look at issues like familial duty versus plain ol' physical attraction, general intrigue, political machinations, treachery and temptation. People like that stuff, right? Borgias AND the Tutors touch on this stuff and people watch the crap out of them. I'm sure this has at least some appeal.

Gilded Age: Welcome to the America's coming of age. I'm not American, so you probably know more than I do, but this is an era of would be revolutionaries, political upheaval, proto-socialist and anarchist antagonizing and major racial tension. Tons of plot fuel! Up and coming politician disgraced? Two revolutionaries fall for each other? Something about something else? I'm all ears for this sort of timeline. Many, many interesting people and interesting things to explore.

Roaring 20's: Music! Art! Surrealism! Noun! People know all about this age. Plenty of people who I know for a fact have never read Gatsby host dinner parties with this theme so I know you know the motif. I think it's an interesting, desperate and mixed up time with lots of stuff to work with. Ever read Fitzgerald's books? This is the time to look at those sorts of themes.

Modern: When I get around to posting more details plots, they'll probably fall more into this area than the others. Obviously, this is our lived experience. Lets create opportunities to explore other spaces. I'm interested in all of those artist/muse, workplace whatevers and academic themed plots people love to kick the tires on. I'll have more details later, but if you have something you want to kick around, let me know!

Futuristic:

The future will, likely, bring a lot. This can be split into three "streams" as far as I see.

Post-Apocalytpic: Zombie, Meteor, Virus, world-wide potato famine, whatever. This is rich for exploration and general fun. I'm open to kicking the tires here.

Utopian: What does the future hold in a positive way? Can we create sexual cyborgs? Virtual Realities? Time travel? What ever you like we can explore.

Dystopian: Global Empire(s?) have us down? Robot overlords? Resource Scarcity? Genetic mutation? Lots of ways we could hoist ourselves on our own...whatever we hoist ourselves on. I'd love to explore this.

Did you notice that none of those are actual plots? It's really just a big list of potential plot settings. Man, I'm a real scumbag for making you read all of that under false pretenses aren't I?

Hey! I just came back to E after an extended absence. I owe a few people apologies for zipping away when things got hectic on my end but I'm looking to do a bit of writing again!

I'm going to try my hand at one or two solid short term roleplays! If you're interested in talking potential plots please send me a message! I'm looking to working something out :)
