Things Aren't the Same Anymore (Apocalyptic, NC)
« on: April 17, 2015, 06:51:25 PM »
The premise for this story is simple enough: in the present day, your characters were off the grid for a time.  Perhaps out camping, perhaps on the run from the law.  Now they have returned to civilization...or at least, where civilization used to be.  But the world as they once knew it, is no more.  Things aren't the same anymore.

I don't want to give away exactly what happens.  I will say it does not involve superhuman zombies--I think the zombie genre is fascinating and perfectly respectable, but it's just jumped the shark in terms of zombies having powers approaching that of a comic-book superhero of old.  Awesome as it is, The Walking Dead really isn't sci-fi, it's a drama with zombies as a feature of the landscape.  But I digress...

Characters can be good or evil...not that I am going to divide them into those two archetypes.  I'd rather see a good girl with a foible, a bad boy with some redeeming quality even if he is a scoundrel, than someone who is all white hat or black.  I also don't want super characters...no Special Forces, no G-Men, no ninjas please.

I'm perfectly amenable to a player who wants to enter the world solo, or in a group with others.  Possibilities include, but are not limited to:

1) Some people camping, who returned to where their ride was expected to pick them up, only there's no one there
2) A group of escaped convicts who hid out in the forest to let the heat die down, only to find the world really has much bigger problems now...
3) Some spelunkers who have just returned from a week underground.
4) Bikers who have been out in the wilderness for nefarious purposes, and just got to the rendezvous point where they were to meet their comrades...only to find nothing went as planned.

You get the idea.

Right now I'm just assessing interest...but feel free to post a character or concept if you wish.

This sounds potentially interesting - curious as to what the big reveal would be :)

I'll ponder a concept while we see what sorts of others are interested.

It'll start with a few clues, some more subtle than others.   :-)

Hah no worries ;) I'm actually excited about the fact that we might not know until play starts.

So what kind of character would you envision playing?

I'm interested. I'd be interested in playing a kind of burly outdoors man type guy. Kind hearted to his friends, but distrustful to strangers. Not book smart, but he knows how to use his body well, and has survival skills.

Interested!! I think I would play a geeky girl who went camping to do some research, she's probably most likely to die. =3

Also interested :)

I was thinking about a college girl out camping with friends.  If there are other players up for it then I'd be happy to go with a group start with others in the same group of friends or could easily have wandered off from the group and got lost with no idea how to find them :)

That would be great.  I always like having early ties with other characters :)

I've put a bit of thought into character personality/background and I was thinking of a child of fairly affluent family who's not been camping before and is much more used to hotel breaks and so on.   Studying art history but making a lot more time for socialising and sporting activities than her studies.  The sort that makes it to the good parties and on to the cheer squad but is a decent enough sort to actually feel guilty about those who don't.  She's smart but relatively lazy.
