Dark Raven's Total Life Blog
« on: March 23, 2015, 05:16:28 PM »
So, today I make a change.  I'm vowing to lose 30 lbs by September 30.  I need to start eating healthier, drinking more water, paying attention to what goes into my mouth, I need to exercise.

Fifteen years ago I weighed 127 lbs and passed the physical fitness test to get into the USMC.  Now I can't even remember how to exercise and last about 5 minutes.

I know how to cook, but at the same time I don't.  I make junk and eat it, but I need to be eating balanced, nutritious meals.

I need to do this for me, no matter how much my hubby says he loves me as is.  I need to get ahead of this before I fall into the same traps that earned my grandmother a life-ending heart attack.  What better day to do it than what would have been her 93rd birthday.

For Gramma and for me.

You can do it, Daylily! <3

I've always found getting into a regular exercise routine is harder than adjusting what I eat. Will be cheering you on and hoping you reach your goal! ^^

Had a diet soda today for the first time in a long time.  It did not appeal to me, even though I finished it (because I hate to waste things).  I was happy with my hot tea in the morning and the water through the rest of the day.  I am noticing that the trip to the grocery is sorely needed soon because I need dairy (I am craving buttered toast something awful, and I know I need to drink more milk since I can't buy just cheese at work and they only have whole milk or protein drinks that are not tasty in the least to me).

Time to get my butt in gear.  Yesterday was the end of Lab Week and I pigged out all week.  Time to get back to work.
I will stop noting my fitbit steps here.  If it's a work week, my average per day is 8,000-11,000 steps.  If it isn't, it can be considerably less due to sitting/forgetting to put the wristband on.

Micro today + studying + catch up on writing may make me slower.

8/9/15:

So, this summer has been a bit of a wash.  I take my national certification test tomorrow to become a medical technologist.  I hope I pass.

This afternoon, I plan to hop on the wii at my inlaws to see what I need to reassess with my weight and flexibility (which I will update), but it will be the wiifit weight rather than my home scale.  My last weigh-in at home was at 166.5 lb, and I had not been exercising for nearly 2 months at that point (weigh-in was a week ago).

To update the blog, I will first put out a warning to all that might not want to see it (or for those that might).  If I pass my exam, my hubby and I will be trying for our first child.  So there will likely be a lot of nesting info and crafty things as I organize our house for that.  I will also be updating on the state of my fitness and on my writing projects that don't include my posts.  For my stories, check my A/A thread, as I've been updating pretty regularly there.

Also, I may start putting vignettes or excerpts in my World Building thread (which is currently empty) in the future.  This thread will contain bits and bobs about my projects as well as my stories here.

Well, it has been an eventful amount of time since my last writing.  Fighting depression and grief as well as stress at work, but I'm hoping I get called for an interview for the lead position on my shift.  It will have the least amount of impact on the admin regarding hiring for our shift and having to fill other shifts (one of the other techs on the other shift wants the position too).  I'm hoping that admin will take that into consideration when they look at the applications.

I am also in a better place with my self-esteem as I am reteaching myself how to eat healthy and exercising as well.  Hopefully by Christmas I will have toned up what I wanted to take care of at that time.

Laundry list:

Laundry
Spackle (not this off week)
Boxes
Spare room

8/5/2016:

Final pregnancy weight:  215 lb
Pre-pregnancy weight:  165 lb

Yes, I know I should not be losing weight while breastfeeding or trying to, rather, but since that is an eventual goal as well, I will be tracking my healing process.  I do not have a scale to hand, since it is upstairs, but I am noticing a slimming in my body as it slowly goes back to what it was before I got pregnant.  I have the mommy pouch, which is also healing from the c-section, but I know that is a process and I know it will likely never go completely away.  I am just looking for the swelling to go down and the area (inside and out) to heal properly.  I am only 1.5 weeks postpartum.

Breastfeeding goes well, especially since the pediatrician gave me some tips on how to more efficiently feed.  The boys seem to be taking well to this, even if they get grumpy that it's only x minutes per side and switch to brother.  I am more able to gauge their hunger cues and diaper changes since they are on a schedule, and they are less apt to need the formula supplement (but we have it just in case, or in case the boys go on a field trip to my folks' house).  That reminds me, I need to get my folks a can of the formula that the pediatrician gave us for such a purpose.  That way there will be something there to go with.

I am swimming in a pile of thank you notes to be written, and that is okay...even though I am still working on the deal of untangling my days and nights because if my work schedule wasn't enough, now I have no structure besides every 2-3 hours feeding, diaper changes, and the hubs peeking in from his work upstairs for food or whatnot.  (He who remains asleep this morning, bless him.)

As for my writing on the site, I am slowly gaining my muse again so I hope to be working on my backlog slowly, as well as working on a writing project of my own offsite.  Fatigue is my new shadow, so I am still very slow.

From personal experience - the breastfeeding alone is going to help with taking off at least some of that pregnancy weight.  Never mind the fact that you're feeding twins.  (Once they hit the 'mobile' stage, there's your exercise for the day!  ;D)

I did figure out that i do need to do some exercises before that point though (yikes).  My thigh muscles have atrophied some being in bed all the time, so I'm doing leg lifts in bed and walking as much as I can without wearing myself out. :)

8/6/17:

Holy crap it's been a while...

So the boys are almost 15 months old now, and mobile as hell.  I am on the goal of many things, not the least of which is my weight and getting healthy again.  To update, I got the lead tech job and have been in it nearly a year (Halloween!).  I am slowly taking on a "backup" position to the Tech Specialist and QC Lead who will be out of commission when our new instrumentation goes live.  It is actually pretty fascinating stuff, getting in that deep.

Weight: 170 and holding

I am still exercising poorly, despite 5+ miles a day at work and burning all sorts of calories renovating our house.  I am exhausted most of the time and do not have "me" time.  I need to write to keep myself sane, but I never have time.

*sigh*
