Dresden Files Wiki

"Hello beautiful ladies! Er... well, bros too I suppose. You may know me, I'm Bob! The mysterious, enthralling, most intelligent super being -ehem- stuck in a skull! Anyways you're probably wondering why I'm floating around looking up skirts, not that that's any of your business, but I'm actually on a hunt to scrounge together some folks to take on the immense forces of darkness crushing down the fabric of reality. There's no pay, no fame, and a slim chance of success. Well, less than slim, more than likely in the negatives actually. So what do ya say?

"Oh don't give me that look, you're not my first choice either! I would have placed bets on that Templar dude, but he's retired. Jeez and don't get me started on my washed up ex-owner... Harry's part of the problem we're all in this mess! Personally, I would have joined Summer Court if I had to, but Harry doesn't always have the best of luck. Ah well, you mortals say life's hard and all that.

"By the way, you got Life Insurance? No, never mind, let me give you the run down real quick.

"Alright, so the terrible Erlking is on the loose. You know, deviant master of the Wild Hunt; who summons a miasma of breeding darkness, which envelopes his troupe as he rides across the earth tearing victims apart on Hollow's Eve? Yeah, that one. For some reason this Sidhe has gone as crazy as one can get. He's found a way to keep his spree of terror occurring every night for the past three days and it's not even Halloween! He's been slaughtering anyone in his path and what's worse is that with the powerhouse of owning the mantle of Erlking, the seams holding the Nevernever together are starting to unravel, spilling all sorts of big bad nasties over downtown Chicago. What an asshole, right?

"For the record, I would have gone straight to Harry. Not that I'm a wimp or anything, he is Chicago's go to wizard and the Winter Knight. I've got better things to do too. Like watching that spin-off porno series of Big Boobs Covered in Chocolate on Netflix. Only problem... no one knows where he is! Pfft, leave it to tall, dark, and unshaven to disappear at the wrong time.

"You think you can find him? Be my guest. There isn't much time before this whole city collapses and all that will be left is rubble. I'm thinking of packing my things- er, unless of course we can figure out why the Erlking has lost his marbles and find Harry along the way. That's ideal you know, hiding behind Harry has always brought me out in one piece in the end. What? I've got self preservation skills!

"So you're thinking of joining a rag tag group of wannabe's? That's great! Fair warning though, we might be running around searching for all sorts of clues first. That's how Harry and I started off, back when I was his partner. We'll most likely run into a couple of his friends... the ones that don't want to kill him, mind you. Hm, probably some that do too now that I think about it. They might have some ideas as to where that grizzled mug wandered off to.

"I'll get the rest of this Scooby-Doo gang together and we can all meet up at McAnally's Pub. It's still somewhat protected by the Unseelie Accords. I'll see you there!"

And remember, if all else fails...

*Preferably a game for those who know the Dresden File book series by Jim Butcher, if not -there's a link at the top.*
**This is ONLY an interest check NOT an OOC thread. There will be an OOC and character approval threads posted if there's enough people to actually join in.**

Here's a more in depth look at how to understand this world's magic

Character Info
Character Genders
All genders are welcome, Bob just likes the ladies so he caters to them more. Just wanted to make that clear to everyone! I might end up playing a bi dude myself.

Character Types
A player may have one character. Characters should be original and either Human Fighter, Human Practitioner, or Human Changling.
Throughout the story your character will develop and gain higher skills such as fighting styles, magical knowledge, or transform into a Fae being.
Your characters might also be interfered with by demon possession, vampire enthralled, dark god blessing and so on.

Character Starters
Characters will start off with the clothing on their back. As you search areas you'll pick up objects that may be useful and others that might not.

Game Rules
NPCs
All Canon characters are fixed NPCs in the game. They offer shelter, knowledge, and supplies. Throughout the plot they may act as your saviors or your enemies.

Environment
The environment is controlled and players can move freely within the area, but not past it until they've solved a puzzle or completed an event-which will be announced in the OOC thread. If the group is stuck they're allowed to use Bob once per event/puzzle -though, if in a dire situation a player can roll for Bob's interference and transport the group. It's a 50/50, you may be thrown into a safe zone (low) or danger zone (high) and it knocks Bob out cold until the next event.

Sexual Conduct
Reminder: This will be placed in Non consensual Human section.
Safe zones are the best place to get a bit of kink on while characters rest up, but sometimes you just can't keep your enemies from trying to catch a feel before they kill you. What's worse becoming a sex slave to the Winter Court or getting your throat ripped out? Who said you can't be wantonly flirty when nervous or in near death situations?

Tone
Greater overtones of Fantasy/Adventure. Lower undertones of Horror/Humor

Posting Pace
Minimum of once every 3 weeks. If idle for a month a PM will be sent with warning. The next week, deletion of character.

Death
Players may only have one character. If your character dies, your soul hovers between life and death. You can either roll every 24 hours to get the D20 or wait for the group to find someone who might be able to reattach your soul to your body. While in shade mode a player can move more freely, and relay information through Bob for the group. Unfortunately in shade mode a player cannot interact with the environment or people. Warning, if you hover out of reach from Bob too long, things have a tendency to be attracted to you. If you're eaten... game over.
***Game rules are still being developed along with full plot/events/puzzles. If there's a good amount of people interested then I'll continue on with development.***

It's that time where I can bump it and see if anyone's interested. I had thought of pulling this off completely, but I put too much into the planning to delete it just yet. I guess the cold hard truth is that there aren't many people who know or enjoy the Dresden Files. Or I keep hitting and missing those few fans. Anyways I'm at a pretty good time in life where I can sit down and create game play/ run a game, not sure if it will always be like this actually.

*Is there anybody who's interested but not entirely sure what this is about?
* Did I miss a few points where people just don't feel like asking?
*Or is there something not included that anyone would like to see without changing the game too much?

AAAGHHHHHH ROTBURRRNN!!!

I'm such a Dresden fan I have this shirt!

I'm even currently re-reading the series AGAIN.

But it looks like you're going system with the game, which puts me out. BUT OMG GOOD LUCK! Gahdamn excellent concept darlin'!  XD

I am desirous of that shirt, bubby.

At MidSouthCon this year, there was a Dresden LARP, and the organizer asked me to play Ebenezar McCoy as an NPC. It was a trip.

I think you're in an uncomfortable position where the people who like freeform think you have too much system and the people who like system think you don't have enough of it.

Thanks~ I figured writing in Bob's personality would be fun for a game filler opening. I hope to catch more interest.

I'm in the "you don't have enough system" camp, rotburn, and I don't play canon characters.

Now I need to take my ideas to the drawing board again. I knew there were lots of people looking for either system or freeform and thought it would be witty to make a hybrid, but that's probably why people pass by and wave. <__<;

I recommend making a vote to let people decide between freeform, system, or a hybrid of both.

I'd just like to refresh your minds and state that this will be a smaller group playing Canon Characters. The tone of the game will be on the darker side. It'll possibly be in Extreme, although the characters will still be human wizards/witches/warlocks, (yes I threw in 'warlocks' to be an umbrella term for Herm/Trans.) There won't be any real system, just unfolding events that push the story along unless you'd like to roll for a bit of randomness/twist every once in awhile.

Now THAT I can get behind! ;)

And I voted!! :P  ;D

OMG yessss, I got Bubby voting for something... I can now cross something off on my bucket list.

*

I was fearful to vote away on this game in the beginning.
I guess the reason I haven't made this game a full system is because I've never done a system before and was just comfortable at starting out small. That and I don't have money to by the Dresden Files RPG game... v///v

Do I have reason to believe that we could be endeavouring upon an adventure of the most freeform style and variety! This is superlative by all conventional definitions.

Once we get things rolling I would love to throw in my lot! I'll be keeping an eye on this in the mean time, mostly because you all seem funny and interesting.

Hmmmm. I love Dresden Files, but I hate playing Canon characters. So, exciting and awesome idea to use the Dresdenverse, and I hope you get a crew to play! But I will have to refrain. :(

Same boat. I don't MIND freeform, but the system is awesome, and I really don't like canon games. I'll keep an eye on it in case you do another or for some reason change this one up at all.

That's why I made this game because the freeform cannon wasn't working out. This one you choose your own character out of three types and it's more of a hybrid system when rolls help with certain things. Basically this was supposed to be a 'puzzle game'... but everyone is having problems with it so, eh. I'm throwing it in the trash. The other freeform game isn't getting much interest either so that might be tossed. My only question is 'yes' I get the reason why some folks don't like cannon, but why the hell would no one want to be badass characters like Harry! Or Gentleman Macrone! Or even Nicodemus one of the Blackened Denaruis along side Queen Mab, Mavra, and other great amazing characters? I give up, lol.

I love the characters, but I don't like feel restrained by other's conceptions and expectations for a character, I don't like to write someone elses creation. I enjoy the freedom to do whatever I can imagine with a character. I didn't see any freeform, make your own character, Dresden game. That would be a game I would get behind.:D
