Solarin Ravencrest is a giant of a young man, six foot nine and powerfully built. He studdied very hard in college on his home world of Manathera, which was colonized by earthlings some centuries back.
Solarin was an engineer, particularly curious about the magitech of the ancient ones. He had no aptitude for magic himself, but learned too manipulate ancient one magitech with great skill and speed.
He worked very hard year round at college, though it was frequently a struggle not to let the many girls who admired him become a distraction. He vented his frustrations with quick and intense bouts of exercise before returning to his studies. This, of course, made the giant all the more hard bodied and handsome, and drew more feminine attention.
During summer vacations and especially spring break, Solarin would party just as hard as he studied during school. Along with dancing, drinking, and loving, his favorite pastime was to soar abov the beach and the surf on a hovering surfboard and play Ashaman Ball.
Similar to dodge ball played on a hover board, Ashaman Ball is played with two gloves—saidin and saidar—that control control a sphere of intense plasma. Basically harmless when used in a sport, the Ashaman can easily generate enough heat and force to serve as a military grade weapon.
After graduating with high honors—and beating out a nobleman named Gunther Ramstien for valedictorian by .3%--Solarin went on to complete a doctorate on the Ancient One ruins on the sea floor of this world.
Then, with an internship under a revered professor, Solarin went on a dig on a barely explored world rich with lost technology—a lot of which he was able to repair himself.
Some sort of trap—or perhaps just the failing of an ancient reactor—released a terribly radioactive mist over the encampment. All but Solarin and Dr. Emertius were dead within three days. Dr. Emertius's friends managed to get them away. In order to cure Solarin's cancer, they had to replace every bone in both men's bodies. They took him to a secret space ship where their order—the Society of Solomon—worked to reconstruct the technology of the Ancient Ones for the betterment of all life.
In order that he might do their field work and protect the things he discovered from Zaku and others who would abuse it, Solarin was given unbreakable bones and a system of nanites that reinforced his skin and sped his healing.
They also gave him a ship and a small shoulder dragon—Randor—for a companion.
