Zimbabwe's military has placed President Robert Mugabe under house arrest in the capital Harare, South African President Jacob Zuma says.

Mr Mugabe told Mr Zuma in a phone call that he was fine, the South African leader's office said.

Troops are patrolling the capital, Harare, after they seized state TV and said they were targeting "criminals".

Gun and artillery fire has been heard, and this makes Mugabe's much younger wife no longer the likely successor if the military can pull this off.

The guy was a hero once, but he is certainly long past his sell-by date. He should have retired long ago and allowed free elections.

That's not to say the the military are necessarily a huge improvement, but Mugabe's corrupt regime had this coming.

Its certainly much better than him and his wife. His wife recently went and bought an expensive ring worth $1.35 million. While their people starve to death.

I think the military taking over Zimbabwe at least gives them a better chance than a dictator for life and his wife.

*smiles* I don't think it works that way, you can't "provoke" a big earthquake hundreds of miles away by detonating a number of nukes. And NK's main test sites are in the north of their territory,

It would depend on where the fault lines are, and how much stress they're under.  I'd imagine if someone let off a massive explosion on the San Andreas Fault, it could cause some reaction down the seam.  (I'd really hope that no one is stupid enough to put their testing site on an active fault.)

Considerign the North Korean nuclear testing facility actually collapsed in on itself from previous destinations a little while ago (I actually posted about it here) I woudlnt completely rule it out. But still its likely just a natural event.

Yeah, I'm not that happy about it iether, but it *did* happen more than a decade ago, before he entered politics. Compared to Trump's escapades, or Cosby, it's almost nothing. I'm not really willing to throw every politician/writer/musician/ sports personality etc who ever groped a woman without her consent into the fire of eternal damnation - that would remove lots of people who have achieved (or will achieve) lasting things.
