Oops!  ;D

Although I really wouldn't be surprised if that was a set-up of some kind. Would a politician really be as non-tech-savvy to like a porn video on Twitter using his official account..?

Well, it could have been one of his staff, making a prank of sorts..

This may be the strangest article I have read yet.

I don't know what is more depressing. The fact that this might actually work, or that this is how things are now.

Ted Cruz isn't just a malevolent sociopath, he is, as they say in these parts, numb as a hake.

Speaking of depressing things: today, a photo made into my Facebook feed. It shows a call for prayer issued by one Polish parish's rosary praying group.

The group says prayers are needed, as Germany is preparing for a military invasion of Poland.

Yup, our government's propaganda of hate really *is* working. :(

I know the possible war is more important, but the Ted Cruz thing deserves a bit more giggles.

I saw the clip actually. It is fairly tame but definitely goes against the family image. Basic Plot - A woman accidently walks in on her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend having sex, and listens to them while masturbating instead of bringing any attention to herself. It's only about 2 minutes long so that's the whole thing.

Unfortunately, that also means it's entirely plausible that he personally didn't like the video.  Someone with access to his account like a staffer did.

Ironically, this  is the most likable thing did Ted would have ever done.  Fucking creepy Bible-assed lizard.

He'd fit in quite well with the crazier fringe of your PiS, by all accounts, if you swapped 'America/American' for 'Polish/Poland'.

He's that bad?

He's a dominionist. In a nutshell that means he's all in favor of fundamentalist Christian sharia supplanting secular law.

He is in the absolutely literal sense an enemy of the Constitution.

Pretty much. He just gets away with it because there's enough other people like him in the country that they sort of white-wash this fact away.

Also, Gerrymandering.

Ah, I see.

BTW. A small update regarding that "German is preparing for war" thing - apparently, that ad is one year old. Still, it is real:

Anybody wants a direct translation? Just ask.

In another news, the PiS leader KaczyƄski has proclaimed yesterday that Poland will be "an island of freedom and tolerance" in Europe. And that, if "in relation to some issues" Poland will be completely alone in Europe, then let it be so!

Polexit, anyone..?  >:(

Oniya

Island of freedom and tolerance?  I mean, I'm just going on your descriptions from the past year, but.... Who exactly are they being tolerant of?

I guess it's about tolerance and freedom for Christian right-wingers - who, until now, have been oppressed by such awful concepts like liberalism, political correctness, church and state separation etc...

BTW. Today it's the 334th anniversary of King Sobieski's Vienna victory against Turks. So, the state TV made a post on its official Tweeter feed that it's the anniversary of Sobieski's defeat of "Islamists". *bangs head against the wall*

Soon, they'll be claiming the 1410's victory against the Teutonic Knights was Poland's first battle with Nazis...

You need to elaborate here, I'm afraid. ;) Which movie do you speak of?

TheVillain

1984. War is Peace and all that.

To elaborate more:

'The horrible thing about the Two Minutes Hate was not that one was obliged to act a part, but that it was impossible to avoid joining in. Within thirty seconds any pretence was always unnecessary. A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one's will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic. And yet the rage that one felt was an abstract, undirected emotion which could be switched from one object to another like the flame of a blowlamp.'

Ah, that, yes. Things are definitely getting Orwellian here...

Something else that made news around here lately: apparently, our Spokesman for the Rights of Children (a state official appointed by the parliament tasked with watching for children's rights) has proposed a new bill lately - a bill that's already being compared to the Nazi "Lebensborn" institution, as well as to A Handmaid's Tale.

Basically, this new bill proposes that any woman who would be found to drink alcohol or use drugs when pregnant could be sent to an appointed hospital / clinic for court-ordered anti-addiction therapy. If the woman declined to show up, she'd be brought there by force - and could even be placed in a closed ward.

The Spokesman says it's to save children from suffering from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, but to me, it does sound bad...

Note: the current Spokesman for the Rights of Children has been in office since 2008, so he's not a PiS official.

TheVillain

...Yeah, pretty sure you can't call yourself a freedom party when you control the breeding habits of your citizens. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is bad, but so is fucked up breeding laws.
