AP news released their investigation on the cult, Word of Faith fellowship last night/early this morning. The results are disturbing and even that feels like an understatement. Members of all ages abused all the way from crying babies who are shaken roughly, smacked, and yelled at to drive demons out of them. Kids are seperated from their parents and  encouraged to beat their classmates if they show any signs of being possessed by demons. These signs of possession are villainous acts like smiling or daydreaming in class. Adults especially males were locked away in a building and beaten. Their are "blasting" sessions where someone is dog piled and yelled at for hours to drive demons out of them. They're prevented from contacting the outside, not allowed television or internet. Marriages are decided by the leader Jane Whaley and the rest of the older ministers. Even their sex lives were regulated. On the honeymoon they could only give each other a peck on the cheek before rolling over to go to bed. Sex was only allowed at least a year after and only for 30 minutes in the missionary position. I just have difficulty understanding what could drive people to do these kinds of things.

In many cases like this, either no one reports (because the cult tends to live in the same area, so all the neighbors are 'in on it'), or the parents avoid any sort of mandatory reporters - no doctor visits, home-schooling (or 'private' schooling with other cult members), and the like.  It frequently takes an actual death (and subsequent coroner ruling of 'death by homicide') for it to get blown open.

In this particular cult, the 700 members all lived on a 35-acre compound.

So they had to cut themselves down to only thirty minutes.  Holy crap.

If they were only having sex a few times a year, lasting 30 minutes might have been tough...

That's kinda my point.  Lasting thirty minutes seems pretty tough at the best of times.  And think of the chafing.

Maybe that was the part that was abusive?  Or maybe they include all of the foreplay and after-cuddles in the 30 minutes - the honeymoon regime seemed to even restrict casual intimacy.

More likely they were punished for harboring lust demons if they didn't go for exactly 30 minutes. It's taking orgasm denial to a whole new level of weird.

I'm mentally rephrasing this as they were forced to have sex for thirty minutes, rather than permitted.

Well, as you pointed out, 30 minutes of coitus would be difficult unless you're a porn-star (and even they get fluffers).  But on the other hand, trying to compress the entire foreplay-coitus-afterglow sequence into 30 minutes (especially considering how little practice they would have with it, being limited to a certain number of times during the year) would also be difficult.

Regardless, any organization that has that much control over your sex life is scoring high on the Cult Danger Evaluation Frame.

I guess.  Washing everything out of your hair can take a good fifteen minutes.

The whole thing makes me sick to the very core.

kicking a coathanger into a team mates rectum isn't sexual assault. and the fact that the young victim was black and mentally handicapped didn't in any way make it racially charged. WTF?!

Sure police where trans people pee to protect against sexual violence (heavy sarcasm) but when it actually happens.. pfff.. just no big deal, boys will be boys.

Fucking hell! I am sooooooo angry right now I can't even type in English properly. But so few would get what I mean if I started cursing in Swedish ^^

But you'd feel better.

I knew that case was going to get tossed, sadly it was clear no one in the area believes in justice for the victim. I'm wondering how many 'misunderstandings' (i.e. bullying incidents) will come out of these new orders..and how many teenager bodies will be  piled at the President's feet before this is all over.

Sara Nilsson

And people wonder why we don't report r*pe.

What is the point? Why should I have to relive the incident time and time again, get insulting questions such as "what where you wearing? Had you been drinking? Sure you didn't lead him on?"

Bah.. sick of it. I feel so bad for the young man. I know back in Sweden I was asked those things.. what was I wearing.. It was in the middle of a fucking Swedish winter what do you think?!

Seeing such.. judges.. makes me almost (just almost as I wouldn't wish it even on them) wish they had it happen to them, the fucking cumdrooling donkeydicksucking pieces of shit. How can anyone .. I.. *headdesks and goes to listen to lots of metal to feel better*

I had. well .. you'd call it a close encounter. Not quite a molestation.. but had my parents pulled up 10 minutes later.. it would of been. It still haunts me  from time to time.. 42 years later.

I wonder.. should have I spoken up? Did I do something wrong? So many questions.. so much guilt over the years. My older brother finally put a lot of those worries at rest.. the guy who tried it with me.. he died before he hit 22. But for so many years.. I wondered.. had I helped him succeed by my silence..

I can't begin to imagine what you go thru Sara.. but I know I listen a lot more deeply because of my 'near miss'.

And I nag my officials because of that awareness.

From the article:

QuoteThe victim has also testified that Howard repeatedly called him the n-word and taught him a KKK-glorifying song that called for the lynching of black people, and that other members of the football team called him "fried chicken," "watermelon," "Kool-Aid" and "grape soda," the Times-News reports. (Stoker said during sentencing that "nobody" thinks those are racial slurs, despite the fact that the terms have a long history of being used as racist insults, as Alex Riggins of the Times-News explained.)

Really?  Why?  Are they stereotypically black foods?

I don't know about grape soda and Kool-aid, but 'fried chicken' and 'watermelon' have been used in such a way.  Judging from some of the reasoning behind the other two, I would hazard that grape soda and Kool-aid gained their stigma by being cheap substitutes for actual fruit juices.

EDIT:  A little further digging seems to connect a Dave Chappelle comedy routine to the grape soda trope.  I know very little about stand-up comedy past the point where it became more cuss words than actual jokes (sooo... lost track in the early 80's?  Something?) but there you go.  (Personally, I always associate grape soda with 'Radar' O'Reilly from M*A*S*H, who always ordered Grape Nehi at Rosie's Bar.)

The father of the Navy SEAL killed in the Yemen raid is speaking out.

Quote
The White House has insisted that the raid was a success. But some, including Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, have taken issue with the White House's framing.

The former prisoner of war said in a statement, "I would not describe any operation that results in the loss of American life as a success."

But the White House has bristled at any criticism, claiming such comments dishonor the life of Owens' son, the Navy SEAL who died in the raid.

Owens took issue with the White House's response, telling The Miami Herald, "Don't hide behind my son's death to prevent an investigation."

"I want an investigation. ... The government owes my son an investigation," he said.

Sources told CNN that three military investigations of the raid are underway: one to look at civilian deaths, another to look at the crash landing of one of the aircraft involved, and a third to look into Owens' killing, as is standard practice when there is a combat death.

A White House official confirmed to CNN that there is an "ongoing DoD investigation" and anticipated it would take a few months, after which a redacted version of the findings will become publicly available under the Freedom of Information Act.
