I'm looking for a new story. As the thread title would suggest I tend to prefer settings other than realistic modern day (I get enough of that setting offline
). I prefer to start by building a world, then the characters, then the plot. This can take a while, but I find it helps a lot, and it's great fun - so I'm happy to spend a few days or even weeks discussing and building there.
I'm not really looking for porn. If you're looking for a story that jumps right into the kinky stuff then you'll have better luck with someone else. If it makes sense for the characters (or NPCs) then great, if it's shoehorned in though I'll find it hard to write well with you.
I try to check and respond as regularly as possible, sometimes that means every day, sometimes RL gets in the way. I'll try to write at least a few paragraphs with each post but sometimes the situation calls for shorter or longer sections.
Below are a four rough ideas that I've thought up as I'm writing this, if you see something you like then great, if you have an idea that's not there then it doesn't mean I'm not interested. These are not so much complete story ideas (see above) as individual pieces that could form a story or be used as a part of one.
- The Agency
Basically an idea inspired by X-Com, Earth is under threat from alien invasion and the first and last line of defence falls to a specially formed international body that answers to the UN. This could be kept a strict secret (like it is in the games) or a well known organisation with a PR team and everything. There's so much variation possible here that it could end up looking very different to the game (different team, mission, philosophy, aliens, world etc.), also room for several character types, everything from members of a field team, to the other agency staff, to normal civilians (maybe conspiracy theorists if the agency is secret, or political opponents if it's public).
- Music as Magic
This is an idea I've played around with for a while now. In this world magic is inextricably linked to music, maybe casting a spell requires that you make preform some music (anything from one person singing a few lines for simple stuff to entire orchestras playing for a few hours for the more complex or powerful spells); or maybe casting a spell just makes its own music as you cast it. There's also the idea to link certain styles of music to styles of magic; for example a healing spell might sound like this (
), whereas channeling a lightning bolt would probably sound more like this (
- Slayer and Skjald
OK, I'll be honest, this is a pretty blatant rip off (apologies to Gotrek and Felix at the very least). But a character who for one reason or another is travelling to fight a succession of increasingly deadly monsters with the aim of being killed in the process, and the intrepid Skjald/Bard/Journalist who follows them and hopes to sell their story at some point. Plenty of chances for the characters to bond and grow, plenty of challenges (both from the monsters and actually getting to them.
This one didn't really fit the other two.
- World of Supervillains.
This time the superhero/es lost. The world was carved up between various supervillains, each with their own ideals and objectives (thankfully the "destroy the world/galaxy/universe" villains were the first to fall in the last battle with the heroes). There's an uneasy peace between most of the new Lords, with the occasional skirmish or deniable attack - all out war between the new countries and their Lords is rare and terrible. In this there's easy room for playing as rival or uneasily allied Lords, their lieutenants, resistance fighters (possibly the last of the superheroes) or even as minions.
