Ashkii was born into a time of violence, the peoples of the Yelap nation raging against each other in bids for power. Some would come to suggest that it was outside forces that had stirred the tribes, foreigners seeking their resources and trade routes. Others would say it is the nature of all man to attempt dominion over another. For these reasons, Ashkii’s memories of his youth are a random collection of blazing houses, fleeing in murky water, and hearing the screams of the helpless. Near his tenth year of life, his father, along with a group of elders tired of the fighting, managed to gather the tribes together for a series of peace talks, explaining the long term damage that would be done if the warring continues. After nearly two decades, peace had found its way back to Yelap.
All good things must come to an end. Near his twenty-fifth year, war would again break out among the Yelap tribes. It started in the east, sweeping across the forests and swamps like a horde of locust, the tribes either submitting or fleeing. At first the council, the group that had brought peace and held it together, was hesitant to use force, attempting instead to again seem talks of peace. Ashkii was part of the war party that was finally dispatched, who would meet the raging tribes in the Wewoka Swamp. During the battle it was revealed that the tribes had been supported from the outside again, a number of the warriors carrying weapons Foreign to Yelap. This revelation would cause Yelap to shrink into itself, hiding itself away deep amongst the misfiled swamps.
Years later, with his father ready to step down from his seat, Ashkii took part in the three trials of Yelap, desiring to take his father’s seat at the behest of his father. The first two trials, survival and naviagation amongst the swamps were easy enough, the hard lessons of his youth having made such things a necessity. It was during his third trial, the hunt for an alligator, that Ashkii would earn the ragged scar upon his hip. Thinking that he had the beast cornered, he had gone in for the kill, only to be shocked by it’s sweep, powerful jaws narrowly missing taking his leg, though the left their mark just the same. Knocked off his feet, he felt the creature close in for the kill. Without being able to see he attacked, his desire to live overriding everything as he fought in the murky water. Somehow he managed to come out on top though he was battered and bloody for his efforts. Left with a limp, Ashkii new he would never fight as well as he had, instead devoting his attention to upholding peace and creating prosperity.
