[Group Game] Mortal Kombat!

This won't be like the recent video games, and won't involve the main characters, though it will be the story of the first game and movie.

Great fighters from around the world have been invited to participate in Mortal Kombat, all driven by their own unique motives, whether it be fame and glory, chasing down a rival, simply seeking a challenge or proving to the world they are the real deal.

The tournament tales place on an Island cut off from the world every 100 years, and is the battle ground for several dimensions, all seeking control of Earth Realm. The portals needed for an invasion of Earth are only usable by whoever wins this tournament, so Earths warriors must secure a victory.

Make any kind of unique human/monster/anything in between :) this will be more light hearted then Mortal Kombat, with many of the fights to knock out instead of death. If everyone would prefer, they can make this a more anime style game, with teens in the tournament.

You'll be given 3 tiny bones at the start of the tournament, and will need to have 10 to advance, which can only be done by better them on fights. This will free form, with me handling the fight scenes much like a DM.

I'm curiuos about an MK RP. I was with you until the words "light hearted", "teens", and "anime style." How light hearted are we talking? I love anime, but I'm not sure that MK and anime are two great tastes that taste great together. Could we have more details?

Well, I was toying with the idea of making it pure MK, but it will be hard to roleplay in battles where you can be skewered, decapitated and crushed :/ we can make this mostly to knock out battles, but there will be to the death battles. So maybe not 'light hearted' just a little more... restrained.

If everyone is still serious about the game, then tell me now ^__^ I never use a system for fight scenes... its a little tricky to explain but its fun when it works :)

Assuming that the number of bones a kombatant has is public knowledge, perhaps one can only be killed when out of bones?

I'm sure there'll be sneaking, hiding and scheming over those bones... this is Mortal Kombat after all. Plenty of opportunities to ambush someone out of an official match.

DUN DUN DUNN. Fatality. I need more info so I can work up a profile. A general overview of the state of outworld would be nice, otherwise it's difficult to come up with motivations for a Shokan to fight in the tournament. Is this the same setup from the game/movie, or will the victor of this tournament nab the keys to earth realm, no matter who that victor may be?

I've been out of the Mortal Kombat Universe for a while now I'm afraid... with work intruding on post time, maybe its best someone take over as GM in my place?

Actually a casual posting rate is fine by me, though I'm not sure what the other players have to say about it. Also, if the current state of outworld is "I don't know, just make something up" that's fine by me as well.

Wow.  Surprised more girls haven't gotten into this thread (I grew up with two brothers, knocking them around in this game was one of my favorite pastimes :) ).  I'd love to participate.  What critical mass are we going to need player wise before a actual play thread is started?  We can start off with a few and build up from there if need be(it IS a tournament so we don't need everyone RIGHT away :)).

Please keep me posted.  Again, I'm very interested and I like both Akiko's and Atlus's ideas for adding spice to the Tournament :)

I suppose we could simply have it be mostly self directed, with the GM only stepping in to set up the fights and resolve any REALLY nasty issues between players.  Actually, that just might work :)

I'm behind the players being adult enough to run it free form but it might be wise to have some form of arbiter to descide the results of the previous fight . . . . . . . . . . . .  . . . .  . . . <curses briefly but with feeling for a few moments> damn it.  Alright.

<Puts up her hand>  I can be the GM though my knowledge of a lot of the secondary characters is going to need bolstering.  Does anyone else want the job before I claim it?
