Started watching Oshi no ko, I was not sure what was happening but that first episode got me hooked.

I have gone down a Isekai rabbit hole this year, I was unaware of this genre up till now

Personally, I despise the Isekai genre. Every one I’ve looked into is just not good. That’s just me, though.

Oshi No Ko has a beautiful art style, though, and I’ve been tempted to try it out for that reason.

I’m excited to start Kaiju no. 8 when my husband gets home from deployment. Also looking forward to watching Dandadan and Sakamoto Days when they air!

As for what I’m currently watching, I’m still working on Frieren (which I adore to pieces) and Tower of God (which is really good so far)!

Mood. The only reason I'm even watching one this year is because that one calls out how isekai-ing emotionally stunted guys and giving them obscene levels of power just makes them villains in practice.

Both Dandadan and Sakamoto Days are on my to-watch list as well! :)

Always nice to see a fellow Frieren fan! :) (I definitely want to cosplay her at some point.)

I think there are a lot of fans as it's topping the list of best rated anime on both MyAnimeList and AnimeNewsNetwork.
And it should be rated high as it really is the best in recent years, the animation, story telling, music, voice cast every little detail was on point.

Now all that's left is, will it stand the test of time. Will we still be talking highly about it after 10 years like with Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Gintama, Steins gate, Cowboy Bebop, Clannad,...

Not to mention the masterful pacing! :)

Knowing M.A.L., it'll be aggressively upvoted into first place for quite a while, lol

Yeah, ironically, the power fantasy (along with a few other more or leas Japanese-specific tropes) are not why I like the genre. I really like the idea of just putting modern person into fantasy world with maybe a catch and watching that happen, but... you rarely get that out of the genre. Also I wish they'd lay off video game conventions. It's really disconcerting when like Shield Hero lambasts his peers for treating it like a video game when even the people in the world use thinly (like paper-thin, like lantern paper thin) video game terms to describe how they and their world works. If your only way of interacting with it is in video game terms how are you supposed to look at it when that's not exactly punished?
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

I don’t usually pay attention to MAL ratings and whatnot but I do know that Frieren quickly became one of the biggest animes of the year - that and Apothecary Diaries easily swept the other animes that season.

I actually fell hard for Frieren, I didn’t know much about it and to be entirely honest, I thought Frieren looked kinda goofy so I was brushing it off at first (don’t be like me, folks! you think I’d know better at this age to judge a book by its cover) but I finally decided to try it out and I’m so glad I did. It is INCREDIBLE. everything I want in a story - found family, adventure, character development, romance, etc. I love it dearly and can’t wait for season 2. Also Himmel is my love forever and ever <3

So, I am ten years late, but I also began favoring the non "male fandoms" ones as I quickly noticed it was always the same. Well, it is all the same to an extent.

I have enjoyed the slice-of-life wholesome ones lately; the farming-life ones make me feel like I am watching a Harvest Moon anime.

I've been watching Dan Da Dan. I generally like it. It's got a good art style, and I think the dub is actually immaculate in the way it translates some things. In an anime where it's supposed to be about demons and aliens they're kind of skewing demons and I wish they got to do more with aliens, but it's currently less than ten episodes. Generally I do like the relationship between the two leads, and it's being pretty heavily sold as a romance thing too.

Few months ago, I started reading Berserk out of curiosity and it seems I've become addicted. I'm currently at the Kushan's war narrative arc and the storytelling, art and characters development is simply mindblowing. It's a real shame that this manga hasn't had a full-length animated adaptation that stands on its own, aside from the 90s adaptation that ended at the eclipse. :-\

Berserk is awesome. I don't really hate the newer anime the way a lot of people do, but I'm not super picky about the quality of animation. But it doesn't look like we're getting more of that, so I really need to buckle down and read the manga one of these days...

On the subject of Isekai, I checked out a bunch of them a while ago, but there's only two that I've really stuck with: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Overlord. "Slime" really works for me because it's just so wholesome; while there's definitely a power-fantasy element, a lot of the main character's success comes down to the strength that comes from him sharing his strength with others and teaching them to collaborate and support each other. Meanwhile, Overlord is kind of the complete opposite, almost a tragedy as you watch the main character fail to realize the horrors that come from him treating his new world like the video game that he is used to playing, and not understanding how that undermines the nobler parts of his intentions.

I'm so happy to see mentions of Gintama! All time favorite anime, honestly.

Does this mean you've watched / have "Silver Spoon" on your list? It's so cozy and lovely, about a city boy that goes to an agricultural college and learns about the processes of farming / animal rearing, it's also very nice!

Im So Tired

My favourite anime is "Moriarty The Patriot", which is basically "Death Note" without the magic and in historical England. Yes- it's practically Sherlock Holmes fanfiction, but it is actually a masterpiece. I've shown it to multiple of my friends, and all of them have agreed it's amazing. I highly recommend it if "Death note" or crime/detective shows are appealing.

Rewatching The Apothecary diaries, it's even better a second time around.

Just finished Beastars (the final season but it's not really) and am watching Aggretsuko on netflix.
