S.H.I.E.L.D Cape-killers (A marvel roleplaying game)
« on: November 10, 2013, 12:04:42 PM »

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

During a period in superhero history known as the 'Civil War', a special forces unit was created to combat superpowered individuals. This unit,  colloquially referred to as "Cape Killers",  was trained to use state of the art weaponry in conjunction to using S.H.I.E.L.D's extensive database of superhumans to exploit the weaknesses of their foe and indeed, kill them when Tony Stark, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D  deems that it is the best course of action. Stark Industry Technology indeed allows these men and women to stand toe to toe with even Near-Omega level threats.

When The great American Hero Norman Osborn, formerly known as Green Goblin, took S.H.I.E.L.D over and christened it as H.A.M.M.E.R, the cape killers were officially abandoned as Norman deemed the unit to be too brutal for the public. Secretly, however, the unit remains within H.A.M.M.E.R and is used for secret operations, eliminating those who threaten Norman Osborn's plans. They do this from the shadow to keep Norman's image as the Iron Patriot squeaky clean. This is the story of these shadowy warriors.

-What i want-
A group of 3-4 players (hopefully a good mix of male and female) to play as A cape killer during the events of 'Dark Reigns' where Norman Osborn is the great American Hero. These cape killers are all non-powered human soldiers who are extremely skilled and well conditioned. I prefer to have players who reads the marvel comics but those who only follow the cinematic universe are also welcomed as long as they're willing to adapt and/or do some reading because there are some rather pronounced differences between the two (i can already imagine some people going 'what? isn't the iron patriot rhodey?')

-What to expect-
A story that -mostly- keeps to the canon history of the Marvel comic universe, alot of violence and alot of chance for sexing up some of your favourite canon marvel characters, both villains/villainess and heroes/heroines.

-Bonus-
I would much prefer to do this using a light system called Fate: Core. It's very easy to learn (as there is almost zero rules that players have to memorize, much of it is the dm's part). I can teach you how to make a character sheet (or even make it for you using your character submission form)

-Character Submission form-

Here is the format  to be used in making a character sheet.

Character's Bio: Adam's father and grandfather both served in the Irish Defense Forces, it was absolutely no surprise that Adam went on to do the same. Largely as father dearest groomed him for the military and raised him on stories of what great things he would do. Right on schedule Adam finished school at 17 and signed up for the Irish Army where for a short period he served in the 1st Cavalry Squadron. Adam knew the Cavalry Corps wasn't for him, he knew what his target was and went for it at his first chance, the Sciathán Fiannóglach an Airm, the Special Forces branch of the IDF.

As a Ranger of the IDF Adam served in several UN Peacekeeping missions, his superiors considered him to be their best man but noted his contempt for many around him during deployment. He was 'heavy-handed' to say the least and that was towards civilians, nevermind local rebels or insurgents. Adam's first exposure to a 'Superhero' was during the Second Liberian Civil War where the Rangers were deployed as part of a peace-keeping contingent. The Armed Forces dedicated to the mission were already gathered when Captain Liberia arrived, he was all smiles and handshakes when he arrived and Adam disliked him immediately. Adam and everyone around him and spent years developing their skillset and preparing themselves for the job, but some pricked walked into some Superpowers and suddenly everyone was bending over backwards to be his pal and pin a medal to his chest. It had already been noted that Adam had a disliking for the Liberian Hero that was aiding the Liberian Armed Forces, rumours were it was not only because Adam disliked 'non-traditional' security but because the hero was a Muslim. During a mission where the Anti-Terrorist Unit were acting on intelligence indicating rebels had civilian hostages Adam saw the hero give several rebels the chance to escape along with one of their wounded. The hero noticed Adam watched and what came next was only a matter of time between the two. Initially Adam could do little against the Liberian equivalent of Captain America with Superspeed. What the hero didn't know was that Adam had been watching his tactics from day one and during the conflict Adam got a moment's respite and managed to hide, after placing one of his boots in a spot where it would be spotted. The hero sped in to spring on Adam when he spotted the boot emerging from behind a wall. The hero came around the corner to find only an empty boot before Adam dropped down from a vantage point, stabbed him in the back and slit his throat.

Despite Captain Liberia's assistance of the rebels, Adam knew very well Liberia would want someone's head for the death of a national hero. Adam went AWOL and his location was unknown for several years. Supposedly unknown at least. S.H.I.E.L.D. paid close attention to a confirmed Hero Killer on the loose, but they were content to sit back and allow him occupy himself on a one man crusade against any and every terrorist group he could find across Africa. In 2007 he was offered a full-pardon if he would join SHIELD and put his skills to good use. He accepted and hasn't looked back.

Trouble: Xenophobic
Aspect: Willing to break the rules to succeed, cruel in victory

if people are willing then yes. it's a very easy system which is almost purely narrative, so it should be very easy. What it does is it limits what a character is good at, which is good because it prevents mary sue and it makes it more interesting for me. There will be very few dice rolls involved as well, and the system rewards roleplaying.

If people seem to be more interested on a freeform, i can do that too

a passing knowledge of marvel is enough, you can learn the rest in game.it WILL get abit darker than usual though, since its happening in the dark reign era. if you're comparing it to dc, think of new 52 and how things are edgier and sexier

More or less, how long our characters would have been in the unit. How were they approached to join? Is there anything you don't want us to include in our bios?

ok, so your characters would be Cape Killer Alpha Squad, a group selected from the best of many cape killer squadrons during Tony Stark's time as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D, you will be the only best of the best, gathered to become the only remaining cape killer unit in existence. The story is abit dark, so it would help if you play characters that are darker as well instead of a goody two shoe hero.

The only thing i don't want you to include in the bio is relationship to canons ('my character is the punisher's cousin!' ), unless you can write it well, i prefer you're all blank slates and not have any relations to canon characters

However when his father was killed all of that changed. He spent the rest of his life asking why his father was killed in duty when there were so many heroes in the world. When he turned 25 he joined the military for a short stint where he became adept at piloting and making explosives out of house hold objects along with his knife fighting skills. He returned to the force five years later...Eventually he was drafted by Tony Stark to help bring in rouge heroes, something he had only dreamed about before hand. Character's name: Olivia York
Character's age: 26
Character's skills: A perpetual mechanical tinkerer and gearhead. She has a background in many oddjobs including being a car mechanic, a machine shop worker, locksmith etc. She also has earned a private pilots license. Somewhat skilled investigator, general criminal, and detective. Proficient in various small arms, hand to hand combat, and vehicle handling.
Player's kinks: Vanilla sex.
Marvel Canon you'd love to fuck: None stand out.
Willing to try using Fate Core?: I guess.
Character's Bio: Olivia York grew up in an upper middle class home and was a perpetually bored youth and tomboy. She enjoyed physical sports including rugby and wrestling, but found little opportunity past high school for those hobbies. Academically she was a below average student more due to lack of interest though she did fine in Shop and PE classes. Her parents also tried to distract her by getting her into a young pilots program. At the age of fourteen, she was suspended from high school and kicked out of the pilots school for making napalm in a friends garage with amateurish plans for converting a crop duster into a "napalm bomber."

She returned to school within a few weeks after the explanation it was an 'exaggeration' and because her athletic skills brought acclaim to the school publicly as a fine female athlete. She went to another pilots school. During a school trip to Mexico, she discovered an entrepreneurial spirit and started selling steroids and marijuana throughout High School. At the age of 17, after conveniently helping her school win a wrestling state championship, she was expelled and sent to juvenile hall for drug dealing.

In Juvenile Hall, instead of being reformed, she picked up more criminal skills and at the age of 18, was released, earned a GED and got a job as a garage fixing up cars. To earn money on the side for college, she went back to drug dealing until local gangs decided to squash her individual efforts. It was then she went into robbing other drug dealers and pimps of their money and found out she was really good at it. Sometimes she'd sneak in like a burglar, other times, she threw smoke bombs or firebombs into residences and while everyone panicked, stole what she could. She committed her first murder during one of these bombing runs, stabbing a pimp to death with a syringe after he pulled off her skimask. It was then she discovered something else about herself, the ability to engage in violent activities against people she didn't care much about and how easy she could go about doing it.

Upon receiving her private pilots license legitimately, she was asked by her former suppliers to smuggle drugs into the country via small planes. It was lucrative and she did fine work. Sadly (for her) during one of these runs, she was caught up in a Mexican Army raid on one of her supplier landing strips and was detained. The Mexicans, not knowing her identity besides obviously being an American, were going to fly her and her cohorts to Mexico City. Chained to the seat, she unscrewed the chair itself with her feet, extricated herself from the loose chair, strangled a guard to death, shot out a window, grabbed a parachute, riddled the cockpit with bullets (possibly not in that order as she was the only survivor) and let the plane crash as she leaped off, letting her accomplices (whom she never liked anyways) die and thus eliminating her trail.

She came into federal custody when she attempted a robbery of a federal depository, avoiding most of the sensors by using a van, a pillow and a sledgehammer to pound through a brickwall facing an alley during the night and stealing several hundred thousand dollars worth of government bearer bonds amongst smaller amounts of other cash. Unfortunately, the it turned out the bearer bonds were fake, created by the US government for use in a completely separate sting operation and when she tried to flip them in a foreign country, she soon found herself enjoying a vacation in a third world prison. It took her about a week to scope the place out and escape before US authorities could collect her. Before she could engage in her next plot of criminal activity however she was approached by local authorities who wanted a specialist to review various security measures as an independent contractor due to her varied experience.

Working for banana republics in semi-reputable circumstances worked out for a while and she gained enough of a reputation that her alleged criminality was looked over and she was approached for a job with SHIELD as an extraction specialist primarily, but for other field operation oriented tasks as well. In exchange for her initially being on a short leash for her probationary period as an agent, pending charges against her, none of which had reached trial by that time, were dropped and her criminal record expunged. Giving a new opportunity in life, she grabbed it.

Character's name: Elira Kadare
Character's age: 29
Character's skills: Infiltration, assassination, undercover work, mastery over most melee weapons and firearms,
Player's kinks: There's so many...just pick and choose whatever from my Preferences
Marvel Canon you'd love to fuck: Wolverine, Hulk, Magneto, Gambit, Black Widow, X-23, Psylocke, Mystique, Gamora (anyone else is fine too, surprise me!)
Willing to try using Fate Core?: Yes

Character's Bio: Born and raised in an Albanian ghetto, one of the poorest in all of Eastern Europe, Elira never got to enjoy an easy childhood. Life was a constant struggle, but she was more blessed than some, being lucky enough to have devoted parents and a seemingly inherent ability to excel at almost anything that she tried. While many kids had to work full time to help their families, Elira's parents only allowed her to work on weekends and insisted that she get an education.

Elira did very well in school, her competitive nature driving her to always aim to be the best. She didn't just have the highest grades, she also dominated everybody else in PE class, even the boys. It was those academic and athletic results that would end up shaping the rest of her life, though certainly not in the way that she or her parents had expected or hoped for.

Unbeknownst to the student, the schools actually served as a prime hunting ground for State Intelligence Service (also known as SHISH) recruiters who would go after anybody that met their criteria, and Elira happened to have everything needed to make a good agent. Brains, athleticism, looks, she was everything that a recruiter could have asked for. She didn't require much convincing after they told her what the base salary was for those who completed the basic training. It was easily more than anyone in her ghetto could ever hope to make (legally, anyways), and enough to move her parents into a different city. A real city with clean streets and above average living conditions.

As she'd done at school, it wasn't too long before Elira became one of SHISH's top agents if not the very best, which also put her on other agencies' radars. After a coup that overthrew the government, however, the SHISH was dismantled and its agents hunted down by those who took power since the new leaders believed them to be too dangerous and didn't trust them, instead wanting to create their own secret service.

Elira was compromised in the very middle of an undercover operation, leading to a very bloody turn of events, and ultimately her capture. Not by the Albanians but by the Americans who'd apparently also been surveying the terrorist cell which she'd infiltrated. The gunshots, explosions and nearly two dozen bodies didn't go unnoticed, and they had quite a few questions to ask her. She spent one day in the infirmary under heavy guard before being blindfolded, loaded on to a helicopter and then a plane and flown over to SHIELD headquarters.

She was out of her old job, and they always had need for individuals with her particular skill set, so she happily accepted their offer to join them.

High Concept: Albanian Superspy
Trouble: Wanted by the new Albanian secret service as well as several Albanian terrorist groups and crime syndicates. She's also competitive to a fault.
Aspect: Obsessed with her work, very convincing actress, pretty high sex drive

Skills:
+4: Deceive
+3: Melee, Stealth
+2: Shoot, Endurance, Athletics
+1: Contacts, Notice, Technology, Will
