but I haven't seen interest in near enough critical roles.

What sort of roles are you looking for?  Hahna could be high level military, although it would make more sense for her to have sort of fallen into it, probably from military R&D rather than the general ranks.  She's absolutely brilliant, but pretty lacking socially (very literal, OCD, generally un-suave).

For both military and civilian I want two "high status" types.  For political types, it is harder to predict, because really anyone could end up becoming the president as the game progresses.  In addition, for military, I want a CAW (Commander, Air Wing as opposed to group) OR the commander of a lesser warship.

So basically, I need about 5-6 high status types, and I am willing to have only 1-2 of them NPCd initially.

Well it would be temporary I don't want to have my character to be president forever, just until the new government is ready to hold elections. But after the colonies are devastated it would follow the chain of command under emergency procedures when the complete collapse of the colonies that would likely have to be a cabinet official anyone high up the Cylons would want to take out.

Understandable, and a pretty likely situation.  By the way, regarding roles...we need some men in this game.  I know a few other females that might join, but only one male.

I never liked the president in the Galactica (reimagined) series she was nutty and wanted to hold onto power instead of giving it up, and the religious obsession well was off for me I preferred the older series in many ways.

If you like, I think Hahna would be fun as the commander of a smaller warship; probably the lead engineering officer, who has taken over after a direct hit to the bridge killed all the more senior officers.

Also, if you'd like to use them I have some images still around from previous games:

Shiloh, a long range, multi purpose corvette equipped with 7 guns, 2 heavy missile launchers, three squadrons of vipers (12), and a marine complement as well as various support staff to enable long term missions away from base.  The Shiloh, like most ships of its class, has spent most of time in the frontier - providing escort for civilian convoys and dealing with minor armed conflicts from piracy to revolt.  During the cylon attack the assistance and sacrifice of armed civilian craft within its convoy and the spectacular electronic counterwarfare of its chief engineer Hahna LeKay kept the corvette intact, although heavy casualties were sustained - including the loss of nearly all the ship's senior officers from a penetrating hit to the command center.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Echo Station, a heavily armed station serving as sector command in the frontier.  Constructed almost entirely of pre-fabricated components assembled on site, the electronics were not yet complete when the cylons first struck.

Shown here with the corvette Shiloh much closer in the foreground

And here without background

As for males, I suppose I could put something together as a secondary character if strictly necessary, but I don't think Hahna works so well that way.  What will hopefully be amusingly goofy in a woman would definitely be emasculating and annoying in a male.

I'm still feeling my pilot idea, I'm not really feeling the political game at the moment. Been playing in a lot of royalty games as of late. I know it's a different type of politics, but my muse is more into the pilot idea at the moment. I blame watching wing commander last night.

Ruby,
if you want to go back to being the genius scientist I don't mind taking on the heavy responsibility of the Presidency  ;D

Military "high status" type.

CAW (Commander, Air Wing as opposed to group)

Commander of a lesser warship.

I would be quite interested in any of the above three. However, the only request I would make is that my character wouldn't be that old. Between 25-40, preferably. Obviously in the situation described and depicted in the series, the survivors didn't exactly have much choice in who survived and who didn't. Perhaps my character was a promising XO who was suddenly 'promoted' when the commander was killed during the attack, etc. My character would of course have a huge chip on his shoulder, to prove that he was capable of command regardless of his age. He would have been close to his commander, so their death might haunt him for quite some time, and he'd feel the pressure of trying to live-up to their ideals.

I watched the series, and there was a LOT to like, and some things to NOT like. I -hated- the ending, but honestly the only character that annoyed me was Starbuck, though Roslin annoyed me to no end early on. I loved Bill Adama, probably my fave character, and to me Edward James Olmos was about as perfect as one could get to play the role when I thought no one could ever replace Lorne Greene.

Anyway, hope this gets some steam! :)

You watched the Wing Commander movie, Curvy? As a longtime Wingnut I can only say that you have my condolences :-(  And if you watched the whole movie, you have my appreciation for the strength of your stomach.  ::)

As you can guess from my Wingnut past I'd like to play a Viper driver, or maybe a former Viper driver who has to climb back into the cockpit after the destruction of the Twelve Colonies when the survivors are desperate for anyone with flight experience. Kckolbe, when you say you're looking for a CAW (Commander Air Wing), what's the difference between that and the term CAG used in canon BSG?

Finally, I'd like to express my interest in the game. I've read a fair bit about the 2003 series but I've only seen a fair chunk of the first season and none of the spinoff miniseries like Razor or Blood & Chrome. Will that be a problem?

I was thinking along the same lines for the President (well. sort of) instead of them being the last surviving cabinet member, have them be something a little more sub-cabinet something like "Deputy Assistant Under Secretary of Commerce for Economic Affairs" which would about 150th in the line of succession if the list went down that far, but 150th sounds better than "Last member of the Federal Government with a pulse". So the legitimacy for assuming the Presidency would be shaky at best and chances are they would really have firm grasp on what they were doing.

First things first: Congratulations.  We have the numbers, the genders, and the role interest to move forward.

To all of you, your ideas are fine.

arkhos: The only caveat I'll make is that if you wish to be in command of the fleet, you are going to have to be a minimum of O-5 (to have been the XO who inherited command).  The average age of an O-5 is 44.8 years.  The average age of O-4 is 39.3.  So 39 would be about as low as I could go for the overall commander, and again, that would require the death of the previous commander, which I am willing to make happen.

Also, Tigh was definitely my favorite, though Bill was an enjoyable character for me as well.

eBadger: I would *love* to have a secondary battleship commander PC (gives both PCs and GM a lot more story options).  I worry that she seems way too young for the job, though.  According to your PM she appears to be in her early twenties.  I couldn't have her younger than early-mid thirties.

Also, for ship complements (regarding Vipers and such), know that I am redoing those in order to accommodate the fleet building system and warfare mechanics.  It also gives you a lot more options for airpower, so to speak.

miah: If you are comfortable with your character being the president at the beginning (through process of elimination), then so am I.  I do want to ensure that your character has competition from other politically-minded PCs, though.  I feel that a lack of political pvp would take away many of the elements that made BSG dramatic.

Curvy: Pilots are important as well.  I don't need everyone to play higher status folks, I just need to know that there are enough to ensure that a sandbox approach with occasional stimuli is successful and intriguing.  In short, I don't want everyone working together, and the less work it takes to ensure that, the more fun this game will be.

Chaeronea: CAG does still exist in my universe.  In the TV shows, there was only one wing (Galactica), and therefore, all squadrons belonged to one Air Group.  In this game, since I intend to have multiple battlestars (or multiple carriers might be more accurate), that would mean multiple Air Groups, which would become one Air Wing.  In short, no real difference, though it could end up meaning one extra link in the chain between average pilot and your char.

Familiarity is not an issue, really.  I am redoing the popular ships, pretty much eliminating the religion to mild references, and the colonies are only a footnote.  I would like all players to have a basic familiarity with the different colonies (pre genocide), but that's all that I really require.

Finally, welcome to our new prospective players!

I don't want my character to be president, I said I would be one for a time until elections can be held. As I see it as a leading scientist in space living and space long term in space travel technologies she would hold an important advisory capacity and be a critical civilian fleet asset.

Working on a concept for a medic/doctor with KC. She could be rather outspoken politically if she thinks it's necessary.

Nods~ I just have to figure out which idea is more appealing independent pilot or military...hmmm. I really have this bold female pilot that can fly just about anything and is damn good at what she does. (will not quote firefly...will not...LOL)

The only other character I had in mind possibly is Kay from that firefly game we were in. hehe You remember the girl?

Kay seems like she'd be a civilian pilot in this game.

Kckolbe, what's the age bracketing like for Colonial humans? Is it the same as for humans in today's world or do they live longer due to better medical technology? Also, is the Cylon attack on the Colonies set on the 40th anniversary of the armistice like in canon?

I'm thinking of running a veteran of the first Cylon war who spent some of the intervening time as a member of the planetary defence force of his home colony, then went civilian but remained in the reserves. Then the Cylon attack took place (if it was on the 40th anniversary of the Cylon-Colonial armistice then there would probably be veterans gatherings to commemorate it, like with Veterans Day in the US, so it's possible that other veterans survived). So it's likely that my character was called back into service by the survivors. I'd be willing to play him as CAG of the Air Group of a smaller ship, or (if a veteran of the first Cylon war would be too old and infirm to serve as a Viper pilot) as captain of one of the smaller warships, pressed into command due to laack of other personnel.

Does this sound okay?

We'll say a slight life expectancy increase.  In 2011 the average age was 78.64, so we'll say 85 is the new standard, almost 10% better.  Your concept is definitely fine, and I am willing to massage the timelines a bit to fit your concept.  You may have noticed that the lore is not a significant issue for me.

Do you have a preference on his age?  I will note that I will start PCs with slightly more xp based on age to counter some of the physical penalties, so it's not like you'd be playing a 60 year old with no skill.

I could be a member of the Quorum of Twelve left alive as I read it they are not IN the chain of succession as a representative of their colony and seem to not do that much normally well until the colonies were obliterated. Might add some wtf tension as most go why is this nobody President instead of a member of the Quorum over here?
