Welcome, and thanks for checking out the thread. This is an interest check for a large group Battlestar Galactica themed system game. I've taken the liberty of posting a FAQ to hopefully answer some of your questions.
FAQ1. You said this is a system game. Which system is being used?
FAQ is short for "Frequently Asked Questions." At the time of this posting, none of these questions have been asked frequently, or at all. I realize that this is dishonest of me, and I hope you can forgive this deception and not let this start our relationship out on the wrong foot
This game will be using a modified version of Green Ronin's Song of Ice and Fire. It is a simple system to learn. Those of you who have played in my recent Hogwarts games (or the one being run by RogueofTimeyWimeyStuff) should be familiar with the basic mechanics. There are a few more in depth mechanics, but they only apply to a small number of characters, so those players wishing to avoid mastering a system can easily do so.2. Speaking of characters, what kinds are you looking for?
Great question, and I'm glad that I pretended you asked! If the character type existed in Battlestar Galactica, then it likely exists here. I will need a commander and a couple of politicians at a minimum, and of course I will want a lot more than that. Compared to the show, I would like to see a lower ratio of pilots to everything else, but there will be room for some. In addition, there will be combat pilots that are not necessarily part of the military.3. Are canon characters allowed?
All characters will be OC. Canon characters will not exist as PCs or NPCs.4. Are Cylon PCs allowed?
Yes. PCs may play cylon characters that are aware of their nature or unaware, but PM me any concept if you are considering playing one. I want it to be a secret.5. So what is the focus of this game?
The PCs are part of a large fleet that very well may be the last human civilization. They have limited fuel, food, fighters, people...everything. They have no functioning government. PCs will have to care about resources, political maneuverings, the defense of their fleet from the Cylons, and eventually repopulation and the search for a new home.6. Should we submit any kind of character sheets?
No. At this point, I just want to know how many folks are interested, and whether you are more interested in playing a military or civilian character. Again, do not mention interest in playing a Cylon in this thread.7. Are you making any changes to the setting?
Yes. Already I have added in the factor of civilian defense forces, which changes the dynamic a bit and makes the two factions closer to even. In addition, I am adding other forms of combat craft, though most of these additions are mentioned in other sources and would be more expansion than a real change. The word "frak" does not exist, at least in the way it was used in the show (I cringed whenever they said frak). I am open to other suggestions, and am interested as to how prospective players feel about slavery.8. "When" will the game start?
Shortly after the first wave of attacks. The military side will have created a plan for sustained defense (to be determined by military leadership) and the civilian side will have an accounting of all of the civilian ships.9. Anything cool you'd like an excuse to brag about?
Why yes, there is! One of the reasons I chose this rule system was that it contains rules for both mass battles AND...designing your own fleet!
If you haven't played Song of Ice and Fire, please trust me when I say that House creation is the coolest thing about that system, and I think players will enjoy building their own fleet and setting their own stage.10. Anything else?
Yes. I would really like 1-2 co-GMs that can be party to plot elements and handle some NPCs.Update:
On second thought, I would like a rough idea of what kind of characters interest you, and am specifically interested in players looking to play a commander or heavy political type, as the highest ranking military character and highest elected character will be responsible for significant in game decisions, and are therefore crucial to the game
