Questions about Flash

I have two questions about Flash. No, not about the DC Comics' speedster or Flash Gordon...  ;) About the computer animations Flash (SWF files etc.).

1. Is there some sort of free software for making Flash animations and files?

2. Is there some sort of good online resource for learning Flash?

I'll be very grateful for some help :)
