Lyall has always been a wild one, even in his younger years he was much more rambunctious than he may be today. Presently he has calmed down a fair amount, but still his mannerism and free spirit to be out in nature has yet to fully change. Unlike his older siblings, he has never had much of a talent as far as weapons training went. Though the boy often possessed surprising reflexes, he was always turned off from the strict weapon masters. “Why should I learn this, when other people use this, or why should I learn that when other people do that?” It was something that was often questioned, being quite bratty in those earlier years of his. He wanted something much different.
When he wasn’t arguing on training, he was sneaking away and exploring in the forests. Often he was sought after and brought back before dark, having that habit of wandering off. On one of his adventures he came across an injured adult wolf within the forest. The beast was far larger than he had seen, even threatening, although the child helped the creature regardless of its intimidating nature. Many may argue that such a thing should be put down for a merciful end, though Lyall bandaged and fed the beast to nurse it back to health.
During this time period the kingdom had had traveling visitors, some whose intentions weren’t as humble as the farce of trade they let on. Brigades in disguise, they had been looking for easy prey and a young prince who wanders off would be interesting ransom cannon fodder. The leading female of the group would often tease the lad as well, finding him interesting with his carefree attitude. She had even strictly told the other members to not harm the child, but not everything goes as planned.
Being the most chaotic at heart out of his family, Lyall put up a fight within the forest after going to check on the beast he been aiding, only to not find it was not there. He figured the strange men had done something to it, cursing them, making it hard on them to capture him by nimbly running about. Though when they did finally get their hands on him, he bit them, he clawed them, gruesomely so on one of his assailants’s face. This alone brought them to violently assault the youth. Cutting, stabbing, a simple capture was soon turning into potential murder.
If it wasn’t for the wolf he saved and the pack that picked up on the scent of blood in the forest, the boy would have been most likely dead. The men met a grimmer of ends, savagely torn apart by the beasts. Their wails had brought the female leader of the group to check what all the ruckus was, only to find her men in gruesome shambles and the child bleeding all over the place. If it wasn’t for him telling the beasts to stop when they set eyes on her, she surely would of met a similar fate; though at the same time, maybe even he wouldn’t be alive today.
She took him back to his home, his injuries were tended too. She never gave the full story of the incident, being the wiser to play the innocent. She even offered to train the boy herself after his recovery, of course at this period of time more attention was paid to Lyall and those around him.
Yet, the training itself had proved helpful. She taught him something different that many may not be able to, a fighting style that did not rely on the use of weapons. With the various other fighters about Wintershold, it was easy to further instruct him and let him practice against armed combatants his age and up. The royal family even tried to sway her in showing them similar techniques, but she refused. The skills the youth was taught was something that was not to be schooled to that of others and she even made the boy to promise her not to do the same, unless it is to any children of his own that he may want to pass this knowledge down to, some day.
After she had trained him in everything he knew for the next several years, Lyall saw the last of her. From then onward he has been balancing his time training and deepening the skills within the wild, along with spending time with the pack of wolves that he strongly bonded with. To this day he continues to privately train alone and adventure, at least now he has shown enough skill to be considered to fend for himself, not to forget the wolves which are often seen following him.
