In the world of Kalore, war wages between of Confederation of Kingdoms, located on the eastern coast and the Asaw Empire in the north. Small battles and skirmishes had played out all summer and into the fall, with the only major battle taking place shortly before the first of the heavy, seasonal snows. The armies of four of the nine kings in the Confederation met with three Imperial Legions. The result was slaughter for the forces of the Confederation. Hidden within the ranks of the legions, were Imperial War Wizards and they unleashed the fury of the cosmos upon the common soldier and noble knight alike. Lighting had struck from a cloudless sky, as fires cooked men in their armor and the very earth split open, swallowing whole battalions.

It had been a thousand years since wizards had taken to the field of battle, either in the ranks of Confederation armies or fielded against them. It had been hundreds of year since war between the Confederation and Empire had broken out and the wild people of the Southern Jungles or the Western Moors had never come in a force larger then a raiding party. The only magic users that ever got close to the battle fields were those highly skilled in the healing arts. The officers and noble leaders argued over a strategy to defeat the magics welded against them, as every army retired to it's winter quarters, not bothering on figuring in their own native wizards. None of those magic users had every studied spells for battle, for theirs was a peaceful life of more pleasant focus.

In the south, King Sular of Achoy, has come up with a simple plan: remove the enemy wizards in their winter fastness within the wilds of the Empire. However, it has already been proven that wizards beat soldiers in contest, so the wise king sent messages to the south and west, seeking a meeting with an infamous band of renegade wizards and cutthroat mercenaries called: The Wolves. Theses killers had made a name for themselves in the inter-tribal warfare of the less civilized barbarians of the south and west. They could do almost anything for the right amount of gleaming gold, shinning silver or glittering gems. He would also send along a few of his finest knights and warriors, to assist them or to make sure they wouldn't have any thoughts about making a double deal with the Empire.

It would be an easy task, since one of Sular's diviners had located the three Wizard Citadels in the wilderness on the northern most mountains of the Imperial holdings. The Wolves would be transported by sea and deposited on the rocky coast of the far north and travel inland through an unmapped pass through the mountains. From there, they could strike the three holdings with ease, as there were no Imperial troop postings that far north, just a few scattered villages. Once the task was complete, they could return to the coast and sail south for the renewal of the war in the spring.

Alright folks, if I've caught your interest and you want to join up, please read on, where you'll find a few rules, relations and just general facts concerning the use of magic, followed by character profiles, to be filled out for approval. There will also be a listing of different kinds of characters I will be accepting.

First off, magic (from minor and major spells) are tasking to the user. Basically, spells costing the mage/wizard physical energy and causing mental fatigue. Caste too many spells and you risk passing out or turning yourself into a vegetable. The more powerful spell, the greater the drain and the greater the reproductions if you didn't have the energy to caste it.
There is a special case for those spells that are involved in healing magic. For those spells that are not designed to aid things like bandages, stitches or medical herbs but rather to force a body to close up a wound with magic along, there is not loss of physical energy but a transfer of physical damage, to a lesser degree. Say a healing talented mage came across a friendly fighter that had been slashed in the belly, his guts were hanging out and casted a spell to seal up those aforementioned guts, a deep cut would appear on their own belly.

Second, mages have to learn their magics by way of, basically, equations. for example:
[special words] + [mystic gestures] + [arcane ingredient] = magic spell
or some variation. Not saying anything needs words (A great majority will need words) or gestures or anything, but in that system, it's basically a [] + [] = spell. A mage cannot just think something and have magic happen, they must rip power from the cosmos through words, hand movements, interpretive dance, ect.

A mage may be talented in or studied hard enough to become skillful enough in one area of magic to earn a title, setting them apart from the rest of the magic users. Titles like Pyromancer (a mage talented in fire based spells), Necromancer, Diviner or Healer. Their skills in other areas of magic will have decreased of course but that does not mean that a healer cannot hurl a fireball or call down lightning or see into the future. All that it means is that it will take them longer to learn them and cost more of an effort to caste such a spell.

For the most part, magical technique is passed down through the generations, from master to student in the form of a spell book. Such a tome would contain the knowledge of previous owners and the recording of spells discovered by the current wizard and are closely guard. This method of learning, provides a wide number of variations of the same spell. One mage might need but a single word of power to conger a fireball, where another might need a short sentence and a throwing motion to do the same and a third might need the addition of a handful of ash.

The Lords of Magic (a collection of near deities) decreed at the beginning of time, that mortal users of magic may only weld simple weapons, like the staff, dagger or club. Should a wizard attempt to sally forth into battle with a sword, they would find their magic deserting them and leaving them weak in body. Because War Wizards often find themselves in the thick of battle, they will train with those weapons they could weld or in unarmed combat (that does not make them ninja, I will however accept the use of European martial arts though).

Name: Dewi, older of the Bastard twins but five minutes

Age: 37

Gender: male

Position: Rogue Wizard

Specialty: Pyromancer

Appearance: Like many of the semi-nomadic people of the Western Moors, Dewi is on the shorter side and stocky, like the ponies his people ride. He stands around five feet and five inches tall, with a heavy set, muscled frame. His face is broad, with a squarish jaw and weather worn. On the right side of his face is tattooed with a swirling random pattern in red ink. The sides of his head are shaved smooth, like his cheeks, with the fair, brown hair covering the top of his head sticking up unnaturally straight and a good four inches tall. The longer hair on the back of his head, which has never been cut, is wore in a single braid. His left ear is covered in rings, mostly silver with two gold and a stud with a ruby in it, at the very bottom of the earlobe.

He normally dresses in a red linen shirt, covered in a black leather jerkin, who's high stocked collar reaches his cheeks. Added to that shirt, is a pair of red trousers, stuffed into black leather boots. During cold or rainy weather, he will throw a oiled, woolen cloak about his shoulders.

Gear: two long, straight daggers, a spell book bound in black leather (shared with his twin), a shaggy brown moorpony gelding, tent (shared with his brother), bedroll, rations and a water skin.

Bio: Like the title they have chosen for themselves suggests, the Bastard Twins, are in fact, bastards. During a raid, their mother was taken captive before the attackers were driven off and she was raped, repeatedly, before making good an escape. For months, she languished in her brother, the chieftain's care, until she gave birth to twins. Dewi was born first, gaining a five minutes head start on life over his brother Hadyn. For the next five years, their mother held on to life, in a sickly, bedridden state and the twins lived in their uncle's household. However, one wet winter's night, she passed on. The boys continued living with their uncle but the tolerance the rest of the tribe showed them died with her.

For nearly eighteen seasons, they suffered almost daily attacks from the other children, getting beaten and kicked for being outsiders. Almost six months after their ninth birthday, Dewi had taken as much as he could. While Hadyn was fighting desperately, going fist to fist with a gang of teens, Dewi pulled his belt knife and stabbed one in the gut. The tribe's healer was able to close the dreadful wound and the boy's uncle exiled them from the tribe, for one would no go without the other, in his only compassionate act towards them. The boys returned that night and stole two ponies.

After five months and nearly staving to death in the winter, the twins came upon a tower and it's aged occupant, the wizard Talog. The old spell caster took them in, mostly as servants at first but soon unearth a hidden spark of magic. For ten years, he nurtured this talent, teaching the twins to read, write and work the simplest of his spells, before he was laid low by a cough and died. They buried the old wizard and continued to dwell in his tower, for about a year, when the stockpiles of food, ran out.

Again hungry, they set out on the foals of their original ponies, selling their newly found skills to different tribes, some planning raids and some defending against them. As the years passed, they gathered together a handful of the Untribed and were able to barter for better rewards. Their life's calling had found them. Over the seasons, the picked up more and more, those skilled in arms and those trained in magic, from all lands and with ties to none. The name for this band came from Hadyn, who had once watch a pack of wolves take down a small deer.
