Life

As we look to godless skies from our cells of stone,
We know we'll have this world, and this world alone,
There will be no heaven, nor shall there be hell,
No other lands in which we'll dwell
beyond this fragile, frugal first,
our only life, our best and worst

We've nothing but a growing past,
an approaching future that comes too fast,
that we never see, until the last,
as our fate finally comes within our sight,
upon the end of some foul night,
and we are struck deaf, dumb and blind,
as monstrous death devours our minds,
like a war machine that gluts on time,
with humanity in it's firing line.

But until that day, gold shall gleam,
and golden shall our short lives seem,
as humanity can always dream,
in the face of the invincible death,
imagine we cannot smell his breath,
pretend we shall always have something left.
and though, eventually, reality shall have it's way,
dreams hold it back until another day

A very turbulent and erratic poem of mine, very helpful to me in making life seem like it had a purpose again when i wrote it age 17 though, let me know what you think :)

It's pretty good especially when you were only 17 when you wrote it!
